Halftime – PHI 10, DAL 10
Posted: January 1st, 2017 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 157 Comments »Weird game because Dallas is has already used all 3 of their QBs. And because the 2016 Eagles are just a very weird team.
What have we learned?
- Jordan Hicks is good.
- Carson Wentz is talented, but very inconsistent.
- Mark Sanchez is awful.
- The Eagles need WRs in a big way.
- Nolan Carroll is not an elite shutdown corner.
That’s about it.
Can’t wait for the 2nd half.
_
first?
Test
it works
There we go.
Is it wrong to hope that Romo trips over a Sanchez chicken finger and ruins his trade value?
seumalo destroyed
whos injured
jp
JP
Wentz will get killed today
can we just punt now
False start – everyone except the center.
Put Daniel in soon?
Carroll is consistent
Our CBs are just so embarrassing. But so too are our WRs….
basically anyone out wide
Yep ;(
Carroll is getting abused
lolololo our dbs just got burnt by sanchez to beasly
embarrassing
How was that not holding or hands to the face???
Is this your first Dallas game?
Just surprised it wasn’t even pointed out. Looked pretty blatant to me.
Marshall looks slow
To be fair about Jason Garrett’s alertness, he literrally has nothing else to do. He doesn’t call plays, Jerry decides who plays, the least Garrett can do is call timeouts
Mike Quick just called that DGB route a lazy slant.
i hate our wrs
I guess 2 completed slant passes in a row would be too much to ask for.
So, at this rate DGB will know all of the routes by 2027?
What did the fans react to before the 3rd down?
i assume watson wasnt touched down.
That was my thought as well.
I guess the Cowboy ministry of communication prevented them from showing us.
ill take anything
Good grief, this Burkhart guy is such a tool.
OK seriously, what would you guys do to upgrade WR?
I think we really have to get one in FA. Cant rely on a rookie.
We will 100% sign a mid tier or better WR in free agency. You can be critical of Howie’s signings in free agency at times but generally he targets the right positions and invests $$ when needed.
I think we should just work on some 5 TE sets for next year.
Maybe some regime changes can make some WRs available for trade?
How about — Sammy Watkins for a 2nd? Allen Robinson for a 2nd?
Trying to think outside the box here.
FA and a rookie
Or maybe just a rookie free agent?
FA market is dingy unfortunately.
WOOOOOT!
!!!!!!
Way to go Ertz
Ertz “breaking out” again (in a meaningless game)
when we’re so depleted for receiving talent, cant discount that.
While Ertz is having a nice game… Eagles WR’s have 26 yards so far lol.
But if Agholor was playing it would be at least 30.
or 20. Agholor was 1 for -1 when he left.
love me some curry.
I really like when we rush Cox from the de spot. He seems to beat tackles easily
I saw on Twitter that Carr (I think) needs one interception to earn a $250,000 bonus. I would like to see the game end by the Eagles in victory formation. Then, on the last play, Wentz points at Jerry in his box, makes a money gesture, and lobs the ball to Carr.
Very pro wrestling. I like it.
Kinda like Michael Strahan’s season sack record when Brett Favre just stood there?
Who’s that in Ertzs uniform
I can list a few guys who it is not.
Potential offseason additions:
WR Desean, RB Dalvin Cook, CB Gilmore, CB Tankersly, WR Dede Westbrook.
I’d be happy with that.
If Ertz builds on the end of this season, that would be a tremendous help
Maybe it was his rib injury earlier this year that set him back
Absolutely, whether phically or mentally, that changed his game for a while.
And he had no chemistry with Wentz. Most of the offseason he was catching passes from Bradford and Daniels, not Wentz. Wentz really did not work with a quality TE while in college and it has taken him a while to start feeding him the ball.
next year, or the year after, or later years is gonna be his breakout year or something
I hate to say it guys, but it is possible Treggs and Turner are not the answer.
Blasphemy
This just shows we are obviously asking the wrong questions
Which is expected, but it was definitely worth a shot given the crap production we’ve had all year.
I do get a bit tired of people bitching about Ertz’s production in December. He’s a case in point of how important it is to develop chemistry with your QB. He’s had a new starting QB every year. This year, he worked all offseason on developing chemistry with Bradford. Now that he’s finally got it going with Wentz, we’re going to complain? It’s ridiculous.
Like Charlie mentioned too, that rib injury lingered in his play, too.
Fair enough.
Ertz goes out. We run now, right?
Nope.
whats a run?
Turner >>> Agholor
Tina?
Nat.
Ted.
Nat, Paul, Kathleen, Lana, and Ted.
Show off.
Just showing my age, nothing else.
Ike
only in terms of talent and production. and probably intangibles. and taste in movies.
Byron marshall is barry sanders. heard it myself
Well, we just got a Byron Marshall/ Barry Sanders comparison. Might be time to watch on mute.
It was time for that a long time ago
Marshall is equivalent to the present day Sanders
Colonel?
or Colonel Sanders?
the newer young one or the traditional old Colonel Sanders?
He did say present day
They do both have eyes.
Was that if Sanders had a pulled hamstring?
C’mon defense. Preserve us some pride here.
whats that?
A group of lions.
Regardless of the outcome, happy New Years to you all. Looking forward to all the off season discussions. 2017 will be better.
Back at ya
Likewise.
Jeff McLane ejected from press box at the Eagles game. Cue the ‘Howie needs to be held accountable” story tomorrow.

Heard he took off his cowboy boots and put his feet on the table. Lefty ordered him thrown out and they opened the door with his head.
Skip Bayless could start a diet plan, because everytime I see or hear him I feel nauseous and want nothing to do with food.
There’s the Sanchez we love so well.
Sachez is a special player
the Sanchize!
a 19yd sack takes talent and preparation
This guy was Kelly’s idea of a great #2 QB.
he smells like #2
I just spit out my beer onto the bar. thx, now everyone is looking at me.
It is tough to escape the 8-yard sack and turn it into a bigger play.
Happy for Watson
And he didn’t fumble.
Definitely Sanchez’s best game as an Eagle.
Hopefully the Cowboys are getting all their lucky bounces out of the way before the playoffs
Its been great guys.
There’s always next year
as an eagles fan, thats what we always say
some day………..
sweet that the season ends with a victory over Dallas
For those keeping track, the Eagles have defense stop, huge sack, blocked punt, TD and are undefeated since the McLane ejection.
Undefeated this year.
DAL just upped Romo’s trade stock for the offseason
It’ll have to be one hell of a trade, according to overthecap.com, Dallas will suffer 19.6 million in dead money if Romo gets traded.
The question becomes more about who would trade anything of value for a 37 year old QB with major injury concerns.
Vikings?
Well done!
Looks like we’re picking around #13.
Nevermind, more like 16
16 works, if not the best. Better than 24+ we would have had if the Vikes had made the playoffs.
Believe 15 if the saints win -16 if not
So its 15 if Saints and Broncos win, 16 if they split and 17 if they both lose.
Ill take Wentz and mid 1st all day, everyday.
Interesting that despite all our midseason shittiness we still managed to down the Giants and Falcons in meaningful games. Just a weird season overall.
We had 3 awful games in a row and i think the stink of those is still tainting our evaluation of the season. We ended up with a brutal schedule and played tough against a lot of good teams with a rookie QB and huge OL turn over in the middle of the season.
Before the season people looked at the schedule and went “Seahawks, Packers, Bengals is going to be brutal”. It was brutal. But suddenly people were surprised.
Yeah – and looking how the packers have built from there they were not as ‘poor’ as people felt back in October. Having said that the performances from the team were not good especial against the Bengals, just when the team needed to pull out a win to keep the season together.
Took advantage of the atypical weather to go for a long bike ride instead this afternoon.
Good to see some things haven’t changed in the New Year so far with Sanchez picking right where he left off last season.
Tee-hee
Please, please remove Pederson from calling the plays and let him focus on managing the game with Reich taking over next year.
It got raised today in the post game press conference too. I’m helpful it is one of the coaching staff tweaks I hope they make this offseason.
I think the criticism of Pederson’s play calling is WAAAAY overblown. I think he’s had flashes of some pretty creative play calls. Some questionable things here and there, but overall, if you’re looking to complain about the season, Pederson’s play calling should be pretty far down on the list.
Not so much his play calling even if he has been uber aggressive to the point of being foolhardy.
It is more about him having too much to manage and keep track of during the game. Thought it was a real mistake he tried to take this on as a rookie head coach this year and still would rather see him focus just on that before taking on additional responsibilities.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see this change either with Reich taking over this role. Pederson said it was up to him which I highly doubt too. If Roseman says it will happen, Pederson will acquiesce accordingly.
Pederson stated he thinks they are ‘very close’ to be very competitive. Strongly disagree. Hard to tell if this was just him giving a standard answer or if he really thinks this.
Given how candid Pederson has tended to be at times this year, I tend to believe he gives it a fair amount of credence including his comment right afterwards about losing a number of close games this year.
Of course they can contend and maybe even make the playoffs next year given the nature of the NFL but this taking 2 seasons.
They had a point differential of +36, lost two games by a point, and four others by less than one score.
You can’t tell me this team is markedly worse than the giants.
They aren’t going to be cream of the crop, but they should be playoff contenders with more than a punchers chance against even the best teams.
But, but, but you are what your record says you **oof!**
That’s fair, and they were probably a 7 win team, but then again “The difference between 6-10 and 10-6 is about a dozen plays over the course of a season”
Really competitive team to me is one that wins the division and wins 11-12 games. Basically one in position to get a bye.
I could see them going 10-6 next year with a more favorable schedule & having a good offseason.
Couldnt have said it better.
Markedly worse no but the Giants are a better team including defensively and they will Beckman. I’d still take Eli at this point too over Wentz too although that likely changes in a year or so.
Honestly, they’re not _markedly_ worse than the Cowboys. While still banged up at O-line, and with next to nothing for outside receivers, we still had the first game in hand until we fumbled it away.
There is a promising core of players on this team. We need pieces, and it will probably take a couple of years to become legit SB contenders, but we’re certainly close to being “very competitive”. We were “very competitive” with some good teams this year. We had some bad games, too. As others have pointed out, though, our problems were consistent. CB and WR, over and over again. Which tells you that this team needs help at those positions, but also that the team isn’t a sinking ship with different holes appearing every week.
I think that people who think the arrow is pointing down are nuts. I think that people who don’t think Wentz has a 75% or greater chance of being a top 10 QB are nuts. And I think everyone who thinks Doug is the problem is WAAAY overanalyzing everything and missing the bigger picture of what a rookie head coach was able to accomplish with a rookie QB who didn’t get first team reps all camp, and with severe talent gaps at the critical outside positions of CB and WR.
Sure, maybe the team falls apart. I didn’t see that. Maybe Wentz turns into Bob G 3. I certainly didn’t see that; I saw a guy willing to work on his game. And maybe Doug is secretly a drooling idiot. I saw a rookie coach who made some mistakes but who also had a tremendously creative offense that worked with some major talent gaps, and who had his team ready to play in big time games against teams like Pittsburgh, Minnesota, and Atlanta.
In short, you can find problems with EVERY team. But I think if you think the arrow isn’t pointing up, at the very least, I think you may be missing the forest for the trees.
WTF is Seattle doing losing to the 49ers? Anyone got that game on. What the hell?
hoping to get Chip to stay around for another year?
Nah, I want to be reassured that Seattle will knock off the Cowboys when the time comes.
Cowboys are better than the Seahawks tho
Dallas Sucks.
We had a rookie head coach, a rookie QB who only had one week of practice as the starter, and so many injuries our offensive lineup was basically determined by a slot machine each week, in the hardest division in football this year and against one of the hardest schedules.
And we finished one game under .500 .
We have lots of holes to fill, but we also have the building blocks for a strong future.
Pulled this from PFFs mock draft…they’re not wrong. “Coming into the season, the Eagles’ roster looked solid in most areas other than cornerback and wide receiver and that’s exactly how things have played out.”
Do you think they were solid at QB? Just curious.
Yes, I think Wentz is the real deal. You don’t?
I’m not sure. I’m hopeful that he will _become_ the real deal, but I’m not sure he was a solid QB this season. It’s hard for me to separate his performance from the awful one of his teammates.
His stats are pretty bad. Sometimes he looks good. He’s young.
