Another WR and a LB

The Eagles used their 5th round pick on WR Shelton Gibson, a 5-11, 191 speedster from West Virginia. He “only” ran 4.50 at the Combine, but was faster at his Pro Day with a 4.42. That is the kind of speed he showed on game tape. Gibson averaged 23 yards a catch for his career. He had 17 TD receptions over the last 2 years. Carson Wentz just got another weapon.

Gibson can be a downfield threat, but is also dangerous after the catch. The Eagles want to throw deep and Gibson helps there, but he also is a guy you can get the ball to on screens. He can turn a short catch into a big gain.

Gibson has added value as a RS. He averaged 24 yards per KOR in his career, with 1 TD. Good value pick in the 5th round.

DGB and Nelson Agholor have to be nervous after seeing the Eagles take Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson. There will be a lot of competition for roster spots and playing time. Keep this in mind…the Eagles brought both Gibson and Hollins to Philly for visits. These are players they targeted. Both help the team  on offense, but also on STs.

***

With the final pick in the 5th round, the Eagles added Nate Gerry from Nebraska. He was a SS in college, but will move to LB in the NFL.

Gerry is 6-2, 218. Ran 4.58 at the Combine. That’s a solid size/speed combination. He didn’t have the cover skills to be a starting S in the NFL, but has good athleticism for a LB. He was a good box defender in college and played the run very well. Gerry still managed to have 13 INTs so he continues the trend of these draft picks being highly productive.

We don’t know what Mychal Kendricks future is so Gerry gives the Eagles a body at that spot for them to develop for the future. Gerry also has a chance to be an outstanding STer. Keep in mind that LB Bryan Braman wasn’t re-signed so the team could use a LB to take his spot.

Good pick.

Why are we wasting draft capital on Gerry? He’s universally rated as a UDFA player. This is as wasteful as Countess was last year.

Universally? Uh, no. I’ve seen him generally rated in the 5th-6th round area. ESPN had him ranked only a few slots lower on the overall board than he went. Some people may have rated him an UDFA but it was by no means “universal”.

  18. 18 Media Mike said at 4:39 PM on April 29th, 2017:

    NFL.com had him udfa.
    CBS had him 329th overall

So 3 of my favorite 4 (ESPN is on boycott due to excessive “insider” BS; as if my cable bill isn’t enough money for those clowns!) have him really later than we took him.

  19. 19 xeynon said at 6:01 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Most guys taken this late in the draft have grades ranking from “late round pick” to “UDFA”, because there are more players on that level than draft slots. My point stands that he was not “universally” considered undraftable.

Shit I didn’t even realize we lost Braman. Did he sigń elsewhere or is there still a chance he could be brought back? Braman and Maragos brought a lot of fun to our ST units but as we transition away from key contributors like Braman and Sproles hopefully Fipp and the Front office can keep our ST. unit firing on all cylnders.

  28. 28 xeynon said at 4:31 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Braman is pretty much useless as anything other than a ST player. Better use of a roster spot to have a guy who can be a core STer and play snaps from scrimmage without killing you it necessary (Maragos is a good example).

    Barbre – 2018 7th
    Kelce – 2018 5th

  52. 52 Ankerstjernen said at 5:54 PM on April 29th, 2017:

We are short a 2nd next year. Im fine moving those guys for mid round picks in the 2018 draft in stead of 6 and 7 round picks this year. And itll be easier in training camp, once certain teams begin to figure out what kind of holes they need to plug before september.

Anywhere to look to see how many times the Eagles ran 3 and 4 WR sets last year?

They should have more WR depth there than at any time I can remember and certainly seems like that is the way they’ll go this year.

  62. 62 Gian GEAGLE said at 4:38 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Might be misleading in that we didn’t even have 3 or 4 WR we wanted on the field so whatever last years total is might not be an accurate representation of how much they would like to have 3-4 WR on the field now that we have way more talent at the position than we had last year
    ,,
Will be interesting to go back and see how many times we used it last year compared to how many times we see it this year now that we practically overhauled the WR position

  63. 63 D3FB said at 4:38 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Can’t find formations but passing attempts

288 passing attempts out of 3 wide

184 attempts out of 4 wide

Hard to play a ton of 4 wide because you either take Ertz off the field or you go empty (which is gonna get Wentz hit)

  64. 64 BobSmith77 said at 4:39 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Yeah and they don’t have a good passing-block RB either.

Can’t see Wentz making those quick reads either or them having the WRs that would function well running 5 or 7 yards routes underneath and across the middle.

Of any team the past 25-30 years, the ‘Run and Shoot’ Oilers were the one I can remember that ran the most 4 WR sets.

Moon was a very experienced QB, White was a very good passing RB, and they had 2 WRs who were very good at running routes, finding space underneath, and holding on to the ball (Givins, Hill).

  65. 65 Patrick said at 4:39 PM on April 29th, 2017:

I mean, not exactly like we had a reason to go 3 or 4 wide, other than when necessity called for it. We had like half a good WR last year.

  66. 66 Media Mike said at 4:40 PM on April 29th, 2017:

  70. 70 D3FB said at 4:55 PM on April 29th, 2017:

    Derek Barnett: Good pick

Sidney Jones: Why. Too early. There were good CBs that could play this year. Not super athlete before achilles tear. Weighs 12lbs

Rasul Douglas: Going to get worked this year. Could eventually become ok CB2. Gonna have to really work to avoid deep shit

Hollins: Best case he turns into non racist Riley Cooper low level WR2. Most likely he’s a ST guy and WR4/5

Pumphrey: So So So So fucking stupid.

Gibson: Specific sticking skill. Big Upside

    Gerry: Piss off Joe

Grade: C (could bump to plus or minus depending on the 7 and UDFA)

  71. 71 BobSmith77 said at 4:59 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Thanks. Still would have like to see a RB beyond Pumphrey and I don’t see how this secondary isn’t Swiss Cheese again.

Not a McLeod fan (especially on how he played in the 2nd half) and seeing Jenkins try & fail to cover WRs in the slot was tough last year.

Mills is the worst outside CB they had too even with some of the real duds they have put out there the past several years. Appreciate he has confidence but it was almost comedic relief watching WRs run right by him despite him playing 5-7 yards off.

Basically have to hope they have a ‘bend don’t break’ defense that has some success in the red zone and forces its share of turnovers again.

Hard to see how they don’t give up passing yards in frightening chunks again though.

  72. 72 D3FB said at 5:04 PM on April 29th, 2017:

They’ve got to do something at RB and CB still.

Matt Dayes/De’veon Smith/Elijah Hood and a trade for Kyle Fuller and I’ll feel better about the season.

Right now we’re gonna have to install the Air Raid to win shoot outs every week.

Rico Verhoeven would batter Klitchko, Joshua and Make fury look really stupid.

Some really good UFC fights coming up tho. The next PPV should be really compelling with two titles Stipe Miocic vs JDS is better than any heavyweight title fight that boxing could possibly put together
    ..
Joanna Jedrzejczyk is also defending her title, and I would pay to watch her fight more than I’d pay to see any man who is currently fighting in any combat sport. I just adore that tiny Polish badass
    ..
The last UFC on Fox a couple weeks ago DIDNT have many big name fighters besides Mighty Mouse defending his title, but it was a fantastic action packed night that produced some wild wars and stellar finishes
    ..
Demian Maia vs Gamebred Masvidal also excites me
    .
Eddie alvarez vs Poier should be a fun fight

That’s a stacked fight Card and some other really good fights booked for the next few months

  94. 94 Patrick said at 5:26 PM on April 29th, 2017:

The thing is the fucking injuries man, and dont get me started on assholes who can’t keep of the Tiramisu long enough to make weight for a great fight. Meanwhile Conor is off chasing fucking Mayweather, which admittedly would be cool, but jesus christ can we get someone to fight at the top of the lightweight division.

I agree with the Miocic/JDS event, theres great fights or great fighters there. I love Joanna Champions too, Maia is finally getting some recognition with his ground and pound, Yair Rodriguez is a super exiting dude.

I like Gustaffson, but the rest of that card is garbage. 212 just screams like an event that’ll disappoint to me, Derrick Lewis is fun to watch, but a pretty generic card, I think Holm will destroy Bethe Correia and Chiesa vs. Lee seems like a super shitty event. Seems like the next actually great fight is Garbrandt v Dillashaw and there hasn’t been announced shit about who else will fight that night.

Hopefully I’m wrong and some of these fights that seems uneventful will turn out great. I’d just rather see the big fights, seems like UFC are a little hesitant when it comes to letting the top guys fight, compared to previously.

  95. 95 Gian GEAGLE said at 5:59 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Khabib Nurmagomedov pulling out of the Ferguson fight was about as heartbreaking as it gets, but I dont think Conor wants to get in a cage with El Cuccuey or Khabib, and until he fights one of them, there really isn’t a compelling fight outside of the rubber match with Nate.
    ..
Every day that Demien Maia walks around without the welterweight title is a travesty. Im a big Masividal fan, but if Maia strangles him like I expect, the UFC Better stop playing games and give Maia his title shot against Woodley, and woodley will get strangled too.
    .
I thing Gegard Moussasi is really entering his prime and will be involved in some exciting big name fights in the MW division. I knew he would beat Weidman. Yoel Romero is about as exciting as it gets, and Jacare is still a high level MW. I think the Robert Whitaker kid from Australia ISNT far from really reaching that upper echelon MWs. bisping vs GSP is so stupid. Absurd to let GSP fight for the MW title, because if he wins the title I giarentee he will vacate it before he sets foot in the cage with MW killers like Romero, Jacare or Moussasi. GSP ISNT even close to big enough to compete with a MW like Weidman
    ..
Some exciting fighters like Robbie Lawler, Vincente Luque, Rockhold, Jon Jones, Overeem will be fighting this summer. It certainly hasn’t been a great year for the UFC but they have had dips before and always came back strong.
    ..
the HW division is in decent shape right now especially if Cain and Werdum also return as contenders along with Overeem for the winner of Stipe JDS
    ..
The LHW division is in pretty bad shape after DC vs Jon, Gustafson is still competing at a high level but Rumble retired. They need to find some fresh blood at LHW which is weird because it’s always been a strong division historically
    ..
Im really enjoying the MW division these days, and there will be some good MATCHUPS once we get Bisping/GSP over with
    ..
Welterweight is in good shape with wonder boy, Woodley, Maia, Robbie, dos Anjos
    .
Lightweight will be ok once the stupid Mayweather/McGreggor fight is out of The way. Pains me that so many people with pay for such a worthless Gimick of a fight
    .
Garbrant/TJ should be a lot of fun
    .
Might mouse is on top of the world and getting better each fight.
    .
And no matter what happens with the men, Im really pleased with the state of the woman divisions.
    .
Hoping Nick Diaz comes back against someone like Robbie Lawler, wonder boy, Bisping. Maia vs Nick Diaz for the welterweight title would be a dream to see if Nicks Ju jitsu can survive on the ground against Maia which is practically unheard of
    .
The UFC has had slumps before, but they typically have always rebounded strong. And you are right about some crappy looking fight cards like Holly vs Betch C, but many times the cards that look really underwhelming on paper have turned out to be some of the most exciting nights of fights, and you know they always try to put together some huge fights for the summer.

Hopefully we see them Eliminate the weight cutting once and for all

Lots of good points. I was devastated with Ferguson/Khabib, namely because it meant Conor was a goner because of a lacking challenger. And the big fat pile of money both he and the UFC is set to make if they actually close mayweather. I hope Conor just accepts defeat after being unable to hit may weather, because its Floyd its not gonna be a fight, and then just takes the dude down and chokes him out, whats Floyd gonna do about a rear naked choke, he’s never seen that in his life and its not like he can read about it.

Maia is a fucking warrior and I hope he gets his dues too. Maia vs. Woodley will actually be a good fight, but again, thats exactly what i want, 2 guys(or girls) in the top 5 of their class matched up. Its been lacking lately, and when it happens we get fucking DC vs. AJ and tha whole shitshow from DC cheating weight and AJ giving up before the fight.

I agree with gegard, but thats another division that gets hold hostage by fucking Biesping. I love GSP, but that fight is so disrespectful to everyone in that division. Yoel Romero might be an asshole and a borderline cheater, but he deserves to crush Biesping. Gegard probably gets Weidman in a rematch, which will be a good fight again. Pathetic from the UFC.

Thats one of the things I love about Mighty Mouse, that dude defends his belt and just continues his dominance. Its a real shame theres no-one able to challenge him, because I just wanna watch Demetrious fight all the time, but he’s kicked the ass of everyone even close to a shot at his belt. They let him demolish someone twice a year, but DJ will never get his dues which is sad because of how good he is and how likable he is.

I agree with the HW div. Theres a lot of potential in there for the future. I hope you’re right about LHW, mainly I just wanna se Jon Jones return and kick DCs ass again. Jon Jones is a grade A asshole, but i can’t stand DC talking thrash when he was utterly destroyed by Bones in their first bout. LHW div. are in shambles though, I agree with that, what the fuck happened there. Used to be the best one.

I seriously doubt Nick Diaz comes back, seems like the Pat Lundvall is out to fuck him over. That hearing was a travesty.

Need to figure out weight cutting, but also the ruleset and the judges who suck, especially the recent NY have been mindblowingly bad.

Trades could be after draft – as in our over-priced, expendable players for your over-priced expendable players. Both teams will generate dead money, but perhaps acquire players at position of need. Better than just dead money by cutting a player for no return.

  98. 98 Media Mike said at 4:44 PM on April 29th, 2017:

I’d prefer getting back whatever the best 2018 draft picks Howie can get. And the added bonus of freeing up valuable playing time for our young guys while they’re cheap.

Feel like JD and HR got too caught up in the finding “philly tough” guys this year and left talent on the board. We’ve been down the culture road before. This draft was hard to screw up. It’s a solid B/B- effort, but it could have been way better. While we are a better team this week than last, but we did little to close the gap between us an Dallas.

And Lane saying no to drugs, Warmack getting coached up by Stoutland, and Seumalo banishing Kelce the Dwarf should give our O-line the needed upgrade to close down the distance between last year and our inevitable domination of the entire NFL.

I wanted a DE, DT, LB and multiple corners and they delivered while continuing to add weapons creating what should be a blood bath training camp competition amongst all the young WRs. The talent/depth on the Practice field at the WR positions should be a glaring upgrade to what we hsd at WR in last years training camp. Going to be interesting to see which young WRs respond to the competition, and which crumble memtally like we saw from Agholar last year
    ..
Should be a good competiton at DE too with Guys like Vinny, MS2, McCalister put on notive with the arrival of Long/Barnett

  217. 217 CrackSammich said at 7:46 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Keep Barbre. He’s our third best tackle at the moment, and we can drop him next year. I don’t get why everyone is so high on HPV.

  218. 218 Media Mike said at 7:47 PM on April 29th, 2017:

He’s not a better tackle than Big V

  219. 219 FairOaks said at 8:28 PM on April 29th, 2017:

We need depth too. It’s possible that some of the guys on the back end improve enough, but I do like Barbre as a backup.

MSII has a roster bonus sometime in July. If they feel they have enough good backup DEs, he could be cut too. But they will at least get minicamps and maybe some of training camp before having to make that decision (unless they want his cap space for the rookies).

  220. 220 Media Mike said at 8:34 PM on April 29th, 2017:

If you want to argue keeping Barbre as backup depth; I’ll buy it. But he simply CANNOT start as he’s preventing you from playing Warmack at LG.

And Seumalo is a MUST a center; we need 3 cheap years of his play at a high level prior to having to deal with a new contract.

  221. 221 FairOaks said at 8:56 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Er… if it is anything like the Warmack which played last year, please keep Barbre.

    http://www.phillyvoice.com/film-breakdown-eagles-have-work-do-newly-acquired-og-chance-warmack/

If Stoudtland can get Warmack to start to fulfill his original potential, then sure. But you can’t count on it. If Warmack doesn’t drastically improve he probably won’t even make the team.

I’m mostly with you on Seumalo, but if Warmack doesn’t improve we may need Seumalo at LG this year. But yes, I still want Barbre as backup only — if he his your scheduled starter, that would indicate that part of the offseason plan failed.

  222. 222 Media Mike said at 9:01 PM on April 29th, 2017:

For how much money they paid Warmack; we’re all counting on it. He didn’t sign for some BS league minimum deal.

  223. 223 Jernst said at 9:18 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Huh? They are paying him $1.3M this year. That’s solid money for a backup, but certainly doesn’t guarantee a starting spot.

  224. 224 Media Mike said at 9:21 PM on April 29th, 2017:

I thought it was $4 or $5 mil. My bad.

  225. 225 FairOaks said at 10:04 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Pretty close to it. 1 year, 1.5 million, and only 500K guaranteed (which was the signing bonus). there may be a roster bonus, but cutting him would save more than 750K against the cap.

  226. 226 Media Mike said at 10:06 PM on April 29th, 2017:

    Yeah, Jernst already addressed it.

Howie said that Mathews was cleared to work out soon. Said he was still part of team. I don’t know if that means Eagles are keeping Mathews or that they’re just waiting until he gets healthy enough to cut without cutting him a check for the injury benefit clause in the CBA. That injury benefit doesn’t count against the cap but I’m sure they don’t want to pay him if they don’t have to. They’ll need the room to sign the rookies but that doesn’t have to be done immediately.

There’s been talking about how they’re hoarding/accumulating picks and how that’s going to lead to a turn around for the franchise. Similar to how the Sixers did it. But none of that matters if you can’t draft for shit. Examples: Both of their 1st rounders busting the Manziel year.

  271. 271 RC5000 said at 9:52 PM on April 29th, 2017:

I get the philosophical similarity but I don’t see how drafting Caleb Brantley relates to Sixers drafting Embiid, Ben Simmons and Dario Saric and maybe TLC. Tons of GMs get picks wrong.

  272. 272 CrackSammich said at 9:58 PM on April 29th, 2017:

The meta game of “winning” the draft through value management of picks is the similarity. But like the Sixers, you still eventually have to pick players, and they picked this guy and Sixers picked a bunch of dudes who literally cannot play at the same time. New Browns, same as the old Browns.

  273. 273 RC5000 said at 10:16 PM on April 29th, 2017:

The best player (besides Jokic who the Sixers could have gotten in the 2nd anyway) taken after Embiid was Dario Saric. 98% of Sixers fans wouldn’t trade Embiid right now for what you could get for him.

I don’t think most Sixers fans would trade Ben Simmons for the 1st pick in this draft and most of us love Markelle Fultz.

I know the chances that Pederson would see someone like Perine as a fit were slim to none. But watching him go to the Skins was hard to stomach. I have a feeling we’re going to hate having to tackle him over the next 4 years.

  296. 296 Media Mike said at 9:04 PM on April 29th, 2017:

  299. 299 Jernst said at 9:43 PM on April 29th, 2017:

He did and he reminds me a lot of Perine. But, he was also drafted by Ray Rhodes and Andy spent the next 15 years drafting dual threat pass catchers instead of 230 pound bruisers.

I’m not a fan of the Pumphries pick, and makes me suspicious that the pendulum swung too far in the other direction after Chip/Ed left. Digging up some thoughts on prospects’ H/W/S from former Eagles VP of Player Personal:

“Big picture wise, you want to play with the odds, not against the odds. And the odds are telling you that the majority of these guys that are under this certain prototype do not play at a starting level in the NFL. If you have seven draft picks, do you really want to waste one, especially in the top three rounds, on a guy that history is telling you… typically these guys with these types of measurables don’t produce at this level?”

“We don’t have to be right about every player. Missing on a prospect who ends up overcoming the odds is frustrating, but it happens. I’m more concerned about not being wrong, and that means thinning the pool of possible selections.”

First thoughts on Mack Hollins after 3 Draftbreakdown clips: -Great name: Mack Hollins. -You have to love the size. He looks huge compared to some of the db he lines up against. – I love the way he explodes of the line on the stem of his route. There is not mamby pamby bullshit. Just straight up and go. – He does have some trouble dropping his hips into his cuts but at 6’4″ he’s going to. – Even with the less than stellar cuts, dbs have to play back on him because he is such a good deep threat, hence he gets open underneath fairly easily. – Willing blocker and a playmaker in that area. – natural hands catcher, doesn’t fight the ball. – Add in the special team talent and you have one helluva 4th pick. – Gets separation easily and you don’t really get to see if he uses his size to his advantage to wall of defenders at the point of the catch. – Stacks dbs on deep routes to prevent them from getting PD’s. – In summation, I’m actually a little shocked he didn’t go in the 3rd round but I guess that’s a testament to how stacked this draft was. In the future, I could even see him as a deep threat, RZ threat or even taking JM’s spot in the slot. He won’t be a “true #1” due to lack of speed but I can confidently say he has excellent value in the 4th.

  349. 349 Mitchell said at 9:57 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Trying not to sound like a homer but I’m getting into the Pumphrey pick as well. – For starters, with a name like Pumphrey, you know its gonna be good. – There are several things that stand out when you first watch DP. The first is his size. I’m gonna be honest, he’s tiny but it isn’t as bad as you might think. I watched 4 games and could count on one hand how many times he fell backwards. – The next thing is his vision. He has a knack for when to follow the play and when to abandon it and go with a cutback instead. – He’s has excellent cut skill and frequently will make defenders miss in the backfield and the open field. – Features a spin move which got him extra yards on many occasions. – Can catch out of the backfield with soft hands. – I thought he would be complete trash as a pass blocker but it isn’t true. He’s tenacious and uses he small stature to maximize the effectiveness of his cut blocks. – Really not a goal line runner which should be fairly obvious with his size. – wouldn’t trust him handling pass blocking on a regular basis. – In summation, I feel like he is a bit of a Sproles/Shady hybrid. Not better than either one but a strange blend of the two. He can make defenders but also runs hard up the gut. He doesn’t have the KR/PR but I think he adds an EXCELLENT weapon to the offense. – Think about last year when we had 1.5 offensive weapons in Sproles, Mathews and Matthews. After the draft and FA the Eagles have Smith, Pumphrey, A.J., Gipson and Hollins AND Sproles…. – Get DP in space and he will do work, put him in a split back set and he will get you yards. Its gonna be fun to hopefully see Sproles and DP together on the field. – EDIT: As D3 will probably comment, he needs to put on a little weight at least, maybe 185? Give him some cheeseburgers and some bench press.

  355. 355 Mitchell said at 10:12 PM on April 29th, 2017:

I can’t explain it to you because I’m not sure. I was just observing what I saw from Draftbreakdown. I completely understand why people would be upset with the pick. He’s freaking tiny man. I’m gonna give him a shot though.

  356. 356 FairOaks said at 10:12 PM on April 29th, 2017:

He obviously knows some tricks about playing at his size — if he dominated Mountain West, he’d probably be at least productive in better conferences. He ran a ton so he must have at least some instincts about how to stay healthy at that size.

The big question is if those instinctive tricks he knows will translate to the NFL. He’s small enough that most arm tackles probably bring him down, and it sounds like he does not have home run speed. If for whatever reason he can stay elusive against NFL defenders, he could be a fun toy to have. If he can’t, he is probably useless. The answer to that may come more quickly for him over other draftees — if he can’t cut it in preseason, it may be obvious quickly, and may not be worth it to keep at all.

Not sure if a gamble like that is worth a 4. But obviously I’m rooting for him.

  359. 359 Mitchell said at 1:59 AM on April 30th, 2017:

Interesting you say that because I was thinking about physics and as you know for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Because Pomphrey is so small only a certain amount of force can be dissipated into his body. For example if you punch a piece of paper in mid air, the max force you can transfer to the paper is less than say you punch a wall. There is more counter force in the wall than in the paper floating in air. How this relates at all: Because Pomphrey is so small the amount of force transferred to him by a 275 lb person is actually less than the amount the same 275 lb person gives to someone of similar size. Because he is small I do wonder if those principles actually help him avoid injury. As far as I know he was extremely durable in college and was surely getting hit by guys with similar numbers to what you listed.

There’s something to that. It’s part of the reason toddlers can throw themselves around and take tumbles that would break a grown mans pelvis and bounce right up. They have so little mass. I don’t have any numbers but I feel like a lot of injuries in the nfl are the “hit the ground very hard” variety.

  384. 384 CrackSammich said at 10:25 PM on April 29th, 2017:

I’ll consider it a good year if Barnett is serviceable, Jones actually plays this year, and Douglas plays at least as well as Mills last year. If 1 of the rest pans out, call it a B+

Also remember that we can sort of kind of include Jernigan.

  385. 385 Media Mike said at 10:32 PM on April 29th, 2017:

  387. 387 Media Mike said at 10:42 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Because he’s a rental for which you’ve paid the point equivalent of pick 96. IF Jernigan has a strong year and signs a new deal here THEN he can be counted as something of value.

  388. 388 FairOaks said at 10:50 PM on April 29th, 2017:

Not sure I saw even one broken tackle in there 🙂 Can make some pretty sick cuts though.

  402. 402 Mitchell said at 11:01 PM on April 29th, 2017:

There’s at least a couple in the first minute of play.

  403. 403 FairOaks said at 11:27 PM on April 29th, 2017:

OK, he spun through one arm tackle. The others seemed to be where just a hand or fingers were on him. Certainly seems like he made it hard to get that arm on him in the first place — I guess the question is can he continue that in the NFL.

Do you think Sidney Jones goes on IR? Or maybe he could make it back in time for the playoffs/Super Bowl?

  406. 406 FairOaks said at 11:32 PM on April 29th, 2017:

I’m sure he’d go on the PUP list first — that would give you 6-11 weeks I think to decide to put him on the roster. Or maybe technically that is the NFI list, but same rules I think.

  407. 407 Bert's Bells said at 4:57 PM on April 30th, 2017:

Comes down to whether the Eagles want to give up a year on the rookie contract just to give him marginal field time on limited practice down the stretch.

  408. 408 FairOaks said at 5:17 PM on April 30th, 2017:

It might depend on technicalities of the rules, but if they don’t promote him to the 53-man roster until the last five games — which I think they should be able to do — this may not count as an accrued year.

Look, it looked awesome, and nobody has anything bad to say about the event. But the draft shouldn’t be the shitshow that it is. Stop hyping it, announce the picks on time, and stop commercializing things. There’s no reason it couldn’t be done like round 4-7 except that they don’t want it to. And a party like the one in Philly tells them they’re doing it exactly right.

Jesus, even Howie was savaging Jim Cramer:

“Well, I thought it was going to be coming back, until I saw some of Jim Cramer’s speech today. It was going in a great direction until today, and then it went a little downhill.”

  417. 417 GermanEagle said at 2:28 AM on April 30th, 2017:

I’m not sure about that. But what I’m really positive about is that he could be available for cheap now.

Maybe Kendricks for Fuller straight up?!

    Let’s do it, Howie!!!

  418. 418 GermanEagle said at 2:30 AM on April 30th, 2017:

However I have just looked at all of the Bears draft picks and they didn’t end up with one CB at all. Mmmmh…

  419. 419 FairOaks said at 12:09 PM on April 30th, 2017:

Yeah, but he was inactive at the end of the season, behind the CBs already on their roster.

Chicago doesn’t have any reason to cut / move him before at least minicamps, to see if he improves on whatever it was they didn’t like. Question is, can we offer them anything they would prefer? Fuller is a sunk cost, and they only get 1.7 million back from their cap by trading him. Kendricks is scheduled to make 5 million in salary/bonuses, so that would take a fair bit of additional cap room for them. Unsure how much they need a LB, but we can hope.

  420. 420 A_T_G said at 8:29 AM on April 30th, 2017:

If they were looking to trade him, wouldn’t he be worth more with a 5th year under contract?
