A Beau-tiful Move

The Eagles got some good news on Friday.

Allen will practice on Sunday so it will be interesting to hear how he does. It would be great for him to look okay so that he can get on the field on Thursday and get a bit of game action. He doesn’t have anything to prove, but it is good for players to shake off some rust before playing in a real game.

Fletcher Cox and Tim Jernigan are the starters. The Eagles are set there.

Allen would be the #3 DT and Destiny Vaeao playing alongside him as #4. Vaeao has had a good preseason and looks like a solid rotational player. Allen played better last year than I anticipated and there was talk of the Eagles wanting to give him an extension. He is important because he can start if needed. While Vaeao has looked solid this summer, I don’t think you want him playing 50 snaps against Dallas.

Will the Eagles keep 5 DTs?

Justin Hamilton and Elijah Qualls are battling for that spot, if it exists. Hamilton has been more impressive this summer and I would lean toward him. Qualls did play well vs the Dolphins and I’m curious to study his tape to see just how good he was.

The Eagles need the defensive line to be great this year. Depth is a big part of having a strong DL. Getting Allen back and into the mix before the start of the season is good news.

Having to focus on football will hurt Allen’s ability to entertain us.

It’s nice to see that Vick is doing pretty well. I’m not sure if he’ll be a good analyst though. I’m sure he has a ton of stories that it’ll allow him to grow into his job.

I’m with you. Vick is a guy who has truly paid his dues. I’m cheering for his success. I’d imagine an autobiography at some point would make an interesting read.

Really exciting to see Allen back early and ready to get to work.

  9. 9 Guy Media said at 7:29 AM on August 26th, 2017:

Alright, so we saw the starting units play all preseason, have starters relatively set in their composition, assume Hicks and Graham are ready to go, and have a general vibe for the rest of the league.

I’m still not ready to call them a playoff team yet, but I still don’t think any team in the division is really better than we are.

In looking at the schedule, I found one almost guaranteed loss (@ Seattle) and one probable loss (@ KC – we play like CRAP in Arrowhead)

So that leaves us with our six division games; I’m going 4-2 here. Splits with Was/DAl and a double beatdown of the Giants. Wentz isn’t throwing a game vs. them away again this year. I’m just going to insistent that we win the opener in Washing to send a message to the entire world!

I think we can win at Chargers, vs. Cards, vs. Niners, vs. Broncos, vs. Bears, and at Rams.

I f-ing hate Carolina, but seeing us winning on the road there on a Thursday night is a bridge too far. I’d love to bridge us via my hatred, but that won’t get the bills paid.

Oakland here is going to be a tough game as well.

    So is……. W @ Washingon, L @ KC, W vs. Giants, W @ Chargers, W vs. Cards, L @ Panthers, L vs. Washington, W vs. Niners, W vs. Broncos, L @ Dallas, W v. Bears, L @ Seattle, W @ Rams, W @ Giants, L vs. Raiders, W vs. Dallas for 10-6 and close competition for a playoff spot plausible?

So I’m going w/ 10-6 and we’ll see if that gets us in.

  10. 10 phillychuck said at 9:46 AM on August 26th, 2017:

Without going game-by-game, we’re 10-6 or better if Wentz is substantially improved from last season, and 9-7 or worse if he’s not. As much as you don’t want to put pressure on the kid, it really is on his shoulders.

  11. 11 Jamie Parker said at 7:02 PM on August 26th, 2017:

And that’s how it should be for a franchise QB, or any leader really. And they wouldn’t want it any other way.

  12. 12 SteveH said at 9:57 AM on August 26th, 2017:

This is a fun game to play but injuries always end up ruining prognostication. If we had a healthy OL last year (and Lane J didn’t decide to do… whatever it was he did) we might have been in the playoff picture at the end.

  13. 13 A_T_G said at 10:26 AM on August 26th, 2017:

With the current information, this seems very reasonable.

Never works out that way, of course. Crap team gets hot, or good team collapses… We look to have a tough schedule but it could end up being cupcake.

  16. 16 CrackSammich said at 5:54 PM on August 26th, 2017:

Seattle isn’t an unbeatable team anymore. They’ve got all sorts of Russell Wilson magic, but they’re going to be relying on it due to their garbage OL. They’re going to be a high variance team until the wheels fall off the defense. Win games they shouldn’t, and lose games they shouldn’t.

My son, named Justin and a big fan of the music from Hamilton, does not share in the enthusiasm for Beau’s early return. Despite his disappointment, this pushes the DL depth into the embarrassment of riches category.

What a shock. Most overhyped event in recent history. You and all the other gullibles fell for it. Today’s boxing, or whatever you want to call it, is a mere shadow of the lost era of real pugilism when every weight class had its own identity.

  44. 44 CrackSammich said at 3:57 AM on August 27th, 2017:

Somebody help me out of this funk. Maybe I’ve just been a disappointed Philly fan for too long, but I’m worried about Wentz being Blake Bortles. I went down the list of starting QBs in the league, and in my arbitrary rankings, Wentz is probably somewhere in the mid 20s based on what he’s put on the field so far. All you can say at this point is that he’s not *not* the guy. That doesn’t mean we don’t end up in an awful Sanchez, Fitzpatrick, Schaub, Alex Smith cycle of aggressively mediocre. Shit, I think an Andy Dalton hell of always being the bridesmaid would be even worse.

  45. 45 SteveH said at 4:16 AM on August 27th, 2017:

We don’t know, which is part of what makes this year so exciting. He might fizzle and force us to use time and resources looking for the next candidate.

Carson’s physical skills, his football intellect, and his mindset make me believe this is our best chance at having a great one since at least 2000.

  47. 47 Tumtum said at 10:51 AM on August 27th, 2017:

Well.. you are right. Probably doesn’t help how you feel though..,

  48. 48 Insomniac said at 2:36 PM on August 27th, 2017:

I actually thought Wentz’s ceiling was Blake Bortles (when he’s good) with a stronger arm during the draft. Bortles has (had?) better accuracy and precision with deeper throws in college. That’s something Wentz is really hit or miss on so far. I just don’t think Wentz will fix sailing balls over his receivers since it’s just that difficult to do. Then again I’ve been wrong on many things so there’s hope!

  53. 53 Tumtum said at 11:13 PM on August 28th, 2017:

Lol. He was. Didnt read that one for some reason.

  54. 54 kajomo said at 11:06 AM on August 27th, 2017:

I don’t know what to make of this trade.

I think we all liked Brooks and see value in him. The League in general doesn’t seem to think much of McGougle since he was chillin in the Jets’ PS at one point. Is he someone that can come in now and really prove to be better than Grymes or Smith? If not I feel like we have Brooks away

On the other hand It just seems like Brooks wasn’t making this roster. I guess a Kendricks/Rowe situation where fit trumps talent. In that case we at least got something in return for Brooks.

    IDK

  55. 55 BlindChow said at 1:26 PM on August 27th, 2017:

Well, McDougle was a 3rd round pick. He only went on the PS after a year out with an ACL or something.

I popped into a Jets blog to gauge the fan reaction, and most were perplexed and disappointed. They thought McDougle was clearly their best CB (though some were skeptical since how often does it take four years for a CB to “break out”), and apparently he’s looked very good in the slot.

Looks like a potential replacement for Robinson/Ron Brooks then.

  56. 56 CrackSammich said at 6:00 PM on August 27th, 2017:

Yeah, but given the state of the Jets roster, being the best there might not mean anything. It’d be like selling someone as our best CB last year.

  57. 57 BlindChow said at 10:47 PM on August 27th, 2017:

Ehh, the fans weren’t talking about him like we talk about our (pre-Darby) loser corners. They sounded like he was the only one actually making plays…

(…except in the most recent pre-season game, apparently, where he had a bad showing. Maybe Howie saw that and figured they might be temporarily down on him, so he went in for the strike…)

  58. 58 xmbk said at 2:41 PM on August 27th, 2017:
