Preseason Finale
Posted: August 31st, 2017 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 44 Comments »No starters will be on the field tonight. This game is purely about the backups and the roles players. Jobs will be won and lost. Here’s what I’ll be watching.
CB Dexter McDougle – The new guy will hit the field for the first time. Can he duplicate the debut of Ronald Darby? Not likely. I’ll be happy if McDougle is solid in the slot and shows enough to make the final cut. That’s my expectation for him.
CB Rasul Douglas – I don’t know if he’ll play a lot. I’d love to see him make a play and come up with an INT.
RB Donnel Pumphrey – I think he’ll be on the field a lot tonight. Last week was his best showing. He needs to build on that. Give us one big play, run or reception.
PR Rashard Davis – I want to see this kid get some space. He was an electric returner in college. He hasn’t had any room this preseason. I don’t think he’s got a chance to make the team. I just want to see what he can do.
DT Elijah Qualls – Last week was his best game. Qualls needs to build on that if he wants to make the team. Qualls needs to penetrate and be disruptive on a regular basis.
LB Joe Walker – Stay healthy. Make good reads. Flow to the ball and make tackles. I hope Walker shows enough the Eagles give him a shot to be the backup MLB. He has to earn that. My guess is that they’re on the fence with him going into tonight.
LB Kamu Grugier-Hill – We know he can play STs. He should get plenty of work at LB tonight. It would be great to see him play well at LB. We have seen him run and tackle. The challenge is to see him play well in the box and deal with playing in traffic.
WR Bryce Treggs – Can he make the roster? I think he’s been good enough. A strong showing tonight would help his cause.
WR Greg Ward – At one time, he had a shot to make the roster. I don’t think that is the case anymore, but I think the team would like him on the practice squad. Ward hasn’t had many passes come his way this summer so it would be good to see him get some chances in this game.
WR Shelton Gibson – It would be great to see the young man make a big play tonight. He’s had a frustrating spring and summer. It would probably do his confidence a world of good to make a big play, as he did so often in college.
C Aaron Neary – He could get plenty of snaps tonight. It will be interesting to see how he does in extended action.
LS Rick Lovato – Just keep up the good snaps.

Anyone interested is seeing MyLoins ?
No
All caps is fine also
i think pumps ceiling is dion lewis, neither really explosive both quick shifty.. dion is bigger though
Good call .. Dion has a ring
Dion was explosive in a short-area way. Pump isn’t explosive in any way
i said it his ceiling… as good as he can become IMO
And I think what meteor is saying is that is too high even for his ceiling. I concur.
I think his ceiling is Jacquizz Rodgers (remember that guy? probably not)
Remember, we still can’t say he’s not as good as Barry Sanders yet.
Did Barry have a lesser known brother (Larry Sanders)?
nah we can say that
Yawn.
Well, the snap for the field goal didn’t hit the holder in the head or sail over Sturgis, so maybe the Dorenbos reaction was over the top.
So this is a fun thought: Jets fans are going to be clamoring for them to keep 8 running backs that flash tonight, unaware that half of our LBs were unemployed a few days ago.
We’re making Hackenberg look like Derek Carr.
Our LBs doing a nice job of running into blocks
Grymes isn’t having a good game.
Eagles 69 .. King Dunlap with a huge whiff
Ouch AHHH OUCH ..HATE HATE HATE HATE that part of this sport. .
Haven’t we seen enough? Cut Pumphrey. He’s making me miss Reno Mahe.
No not yet. Once he gets up to 185+ pounds and runs even slower then we can cut him.
Force feed him crab fries and let’s be done with it.
Just hook him up to an IV with butterscotch frosting while you’re at it.
analysts seems to like pump. . Ruining points back at least
I’m starting to believe the Eagles will keep Clement over Pomphrey bc they don’t want to look like be wasting both 4th and 5th round picks..
Pomphrey to IR?
Yup.
Merrill Reese before the game tried to convince the listeners that the 4th preseason game is still necessary to help teams get to the 53-man roster, make practice squad decisions, and helps to tune up backup players for the start of the regular season.
After watching that atrocious 1st half, it hard to believe any of that. Even the coaches don’t play 1st string guys anymore in the 4th game for the most part. No reason they couldn’t do what Merrill Reese described above with 3 preseason games instead.
4th one is a vestigial scheduling tool that was used when players had to use training camp to get in shape. Now it is just a straight up money grab by the owners.
I once looked up “company stooge” in the dictionary and it said “SEE ALSO: Merrill Reese”
In my Bizarro FFL where negative points are what you want, the Jets’ QB spot is one of the strongest spots.
I wasn’t able to get McCown but picked up Hackenburg as my backup. Strong confidence he can be truly awful.
McCloin would be a strong candidate as well if he ever starts. Makes Carson Palmer look like Warren Moon with how underpowered all of his throws are.
IR stash of watkins, mccalister
Watkins? Did he get hurt for real?
He has already been cut and brought back a couple times over the last few years. I don’t think you have to fake an injury to hide him on the IR?
If you’re looking for a guy who’s ceiling is dion Lewis look no further than Byron Marshall
Marshall looking gooooooood
Triple Option…Dane Evans to Marcus Johnson 41 yd TD

16 cut
4 cut
69 cut
89 cut
I like Denham
Pumphrey SUCKS. The Eagles traded up for this bum. Clement deserves to make the team, SHITphrey doesn’t.
Pumphrey got a head injury in the 4th qtr and is an almost surefire bet to be on the IR list.
Still saw nothing from him tonight that showed he can contribute this year on special teams let alone as a regular RB. Looks like a pick who was a reach and is going to be a bust.
This was one of the worst Eagles’ games I can remember watching.
Complete boredom fest without one noteworthy play by either team. Maybe Walker’s hit on McCown.
Judging by the lack of comments on here nobody watched this game. I can’t blame them.
Holy shit. Check out Kempski’s picture of McGloin riding a dragon. Now that is art!

Why do we have to keep Trey Burton? Nothing against him but if young Billy Brown is too intriguing to let go why not jut keep him and cut Burton?
Burton seems like a master of none
Special teams.
Special Teams and you’re basically hoping Billy Brown becomes Trey Burton
