Gameday – CHI at PHI

Chicago is known as the Windy City and it seems like they brought some of that wind with them.

Keep that in mind during the game.

Here are the inactives for the Eagles.

No Beau Allen so Elijah Qualls gets back on the field. Destiny Vaeao will get increased snaps as he becomes the #3 DT.

Marcus Johnson is inactive and Shelton Gibson makes his NFL debut. No idea why that’s happening, but it will be interesting to see if the Eagles go deep to Gibson or if he gets any touches.

LB Dannell Ellerbe is still learning the scheme.

DE Steven Means is also active. I hope he’s able to get mixed into the rotation.

As for the Bears…

LB Pernell McPhee and DL Akiem Hicks are playing. They could be slowed by injury. We’ll have to wait and see how that goes. The Bears need both of those guys if they have any chance of slowing down the Eagles.

*****

I’m interested to see how Jim Schwartz defends the Bears. They love to run the ball, even QB Mitch Trubisky. The Eagles will likely play a lot of 8-man fronts to deal with this. They could also blitz off the edges, trying to pressure Trubisky and keep him in the pocket. You don’t want him getting loose on the edges and having the run-pass option. You want him in the pocket trying to read the defense and make traditional throws.

The Bears don’t have great WRs so playing man coverage isn’t something that scares you. Dare them to beat your DBs.

If the Eagles can get anywhere close to their average (32 points), I think the Bears are in big trouble. I just don’t see Chicago scoring a whole lot today.

*****

How cool is this?

    And there it is…

Your week 12 rooting guide. You’re welcome. (Will probably repost to Tommy’s next thread – since he always posts 5 minutes after I put time into a post here.)

Tennessee (6-4) v Indianapolis (3-7). Titans. Let the Colts continue in free fall and attract the good coaching unit/draft picks away from NY. And, as Guy Media Mike said, “Watching the Colts lose is funny.”

Carolina (7-3) v NY Jets (4-6). J-E-T-S. But, I’d rather face Carolina than Atlanta in the playoffs. Carolina has exploitable weaknesses. Atlanta, if they put it together, can be very dangerous. Still, our playoff seed is far from set. Jets all day.

Miami (4-6) v. New England* (8-2). Miami. It is tempting to root for the evil empire* here because the absolute garbage product that Miami puts on the field is an embarrassment. Cover your eyes bad. Maybe without Cutler, it will look better.

Tampa Bay (4-6) v. Atlanta (6-4). Buccaneers. Please slow down and trip up the Falcons before they make the playoffs. Disclaimer: Pinning hopes on a team that needed a last second FG to beat Miami is not a winning strategy.

Cleveland (0-10) v. Cincinnati (4-6). Bengals. Because the Browns are the Browns and 0-16 record is merely just desserts for passing on Wentz. The Browns fans deserve much better, but their owner and organization do not. Besides, let the NY Giants trade up with them in next year’s draft for the second coming of Danny Wuerffel.

Buffalo (4-6)) v. Kansas City (6-4). Chiefs. Despite their struggles, AR has one of the few teams that could take down the Patriots* or the West Virginia Steelers in the playoffs. Need them to stay alive for that reason alone.

Seattle (6-4) v. San Francisco (1-9). Seahawks. Say what??!! Yah, last thing we want is to face a super desperate backs-against-the-wall do-or-die hyper-motivated Seattle team in their home stadium next week. Russell Wilson wins games singlehandedly they should lose. Don’t give them any extra edges. Let them get a victory over San Fran today.

New Orleans (8-2) v. LA Rams (7-3). Rams. Obviously. Most important matchup of the week for Eagles fans outside over our Bears matchup. Looking for a really good game to watch here in the late afternoon slot.

Jacksonville (7-3) v. Arizona (4-6). Jaguars. The Cardinals and their fans deserve much retribution and pain. Can the Jags catch the Cheatriots* or the Stillers? Rest of their schedule is: Indy, Seattle, Houston, SF and Tennessee. Could they go 13-3 and get a bye? Nothing against Dougie P., but why isn’t anyone talking about Doug Marrone as a coach of the year candidate? He’s doing this with Blake freaking Bortles at QB. That’s like competing at a swim meet with a 2 ton anchor tied to your nut sack with fishing wire. Ow.

Denver (3-7) v. Oakland (4-6). Raiders. Let the Giants catch Denver and slide behind them in the draft order. Denver will increase the price the Giants need to pay to get a quality QB.

Green Bay (5-5) v. Pittsburgh (8-2). Yuck. Steelers. Although they look awful, Green Bay is still alive for the playoffs. That must not happen. And it must not happen to the extent that we have to hold our nose and hope for a Steelers victory (Their fans smell of cockroach-infested rotten meat).

Houston (4-6) v. Baltimore (5-5). Ravens. Baltimore, like Kansas City, isn’t playing great, but if they put it together down the stretch, they are capable of taking out one of those two AFC teams we all hate.

    Bonus material:

LA Chargers (4-6) v. Dallas (5-5). Chargers. Lololololololol. Suck it Jerry!!

The 2017 Rule Book. If you can’t remember all that above, the general guidelines are as follows in order of importance.

    1) GO EAGLES!

    1a) Dallas sucks.

    2) Division rivals must not win, except in rare instances. E.g. facing each other with one of them threatening to make the playoffs.

    3) Down with the rest of the NFC.

    4) The Patriots cheat; AND

    5) Steelers fans do not deserve anything good to happen to them ever again.

    Eagles win 30-10.

The Eagles are on cruise control by late 2Q or start of 3Q.

Look for deep reserves in the rotation as often as possible.

  9. 9 Dragon_Eagle said at 12:29 PM on November 26th, 2017:

No slow start, please. We’ve seen that too often this year. Chiefs, Giants, Chargers, Washington, 49ers, Dallas. I want 28 first half Eagles points minimum.

  24. 24 kajomo said at 1:09 PM on November 26th, 2017:

I really wish Blount wouldn’t see the field until the 2nd half. My grandma has better change of direction than him. He’s so much more effective when defenses are tired

  25. 25 Dragon_Eagle said at 1:11 PM on November 26th, 2017:

  59. 59 shah8 said at 1:27 PM on November 26th, 2017:

One of things to watch for with Trubisky is that he’s supposedly horrible to one side of the field. I think his left, and that was how that interception happened..

  60. 60 Checkdown Charlie said at 1:27 PM on November 26th, 2017:

    Great stop D

  63. 63 Howie Littlefinger said at 1:30 PM on November 26th, 2017:

  64. 64 shah8 said at 1:33 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Wentz is more physically talented than Trubisky.

  65. 65 Dragon_Eagle said at 1:30 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Keep in mind who his coach is. Fox is not a QB coach. When Trubisky gets an offense minded coach next year, let’s see how he looks.

  66. 66 SteveH said at 1:29 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Malcom must be like … SMH what was I doing lol. He’s a vet he knows better.

  67. 67 A_T_G said at 1:30 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Yeah, that was silly trying to do too much. His job was done, just go down and give it to the offense.

  68. 68 Iskar36 said at 1:33 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Couldnt disagree more. The outcome was bad, but telling a defensive playsr not to try and return an INT because they already succeesed is just silly to me. Hold onto the ball berter maybe, but br aggressove. Thats the hole mond set of this team.

  69. 69 A_T_G said at 2:07 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Yeah, until he turned and tried to run straight backwards to take it around the people in front of him, I’m with you. At that point, though, becomes desperate.

    I missed it. What happened?

  71. 71 Dragon_Eagle said at 1:34 PM on November 26th, 2017:

  83. 83 FairOaks said at 1:37 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Yeah. If QBs can have arm punts, which are INTs that don’t hurt you too much, that was sort of the running equivalent. Except that two steps prior we had the first down, unlike a pass.

But now with the missed FG we get the ball back almost the same spot.

? Which play are you talking about? Didn’t see any real missed pass other than the one where Hollins was grabbed to slow him up as Wentz was throwing.

  113. 113 ChoTime said at 1:51 PM on November 26th, 2017:

  117. 117 Donald Kalinowski said at 1:50 PM on November 26th, 2017:

He’s a FA next year and I’m not sure the price he’s worth keeping for.

  118. 118 SteveH said at 1:52 PM on November 26th, 2017:

The thing is he still isn’t a huge stats guy… Might make him affordable. He’s turned his career around in such a big way.

  119. 119 FairOaks said at 1:53 PM on November 26th, 2017:

This is Agholor’s third year. He is under contract for next year. The main question is do you exercise the fifth year option for 2019.

    Ok. Great

  124. 124 shah8 said at 1:50 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Way too early to say it, but I think that’s game. Unless Trubisky shows me something new, or a massive improvement on pass rush happens, this is over already.

  125. 125 SteveH said at 1:51 PM on November 26th, 2017:

We still might fumble the ball 4 or 5 more times, I’m not ready to declare victory yet.

  126. 126 shah8 said at 1:52 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Last two times we fumbled the ball, Trubisky was ass both times and Fox called scared…

  132. 132 SteveH said at 1:53 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Aghs has been such a redemption story this year. Dude legit adds another weapon to the arsenal that we need.

  133. 133 Howie Littlefinger said at 1:55 PM on November 26th, 2017:

I was so high on him when we got him. I’m just starting to trust again.

    really?

  142. 142 ChoTime said at 1:58 PM on November 26th, 2017:

hit the guy in the hands 30 yards down the field, didn’t it?

  143. 143 shah8 said at 1:59 PM on November 26th, 2017:

That guy had to work very, very, hard to get that ball to hit his hand, and that ball also had lots of hang time.

  144. 144 Donald Kalinowski said at 2:00 PM on November 26th, 2017:

But it was away from coverage and the receiver had space to get it. If the QB and receiver had more playing time together to work on timing and routes that would been a completion.

  145. 145 Howie Littlefinger said at 2:01 PM on November 26th, 2017:

WR should have caught it. That was a throw Wentz makes last year and Mathews drops

  146. 146 Donald Kalinowski said at 1:59 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Back shoulder throw 40 yards down the field. Should have been a 1st down

  148. 148 Dragon_Eagle said at 1:58 PM on November 26th, 2017:

So, Trubisky is learning from John Fox and Mike Glennon.

Wentz has Pederson, Reich, and DeFilippo.

    I’d say that’s advantage Eagles.

  150. 150 FairOaks said at 1:59 PM on November 26th, 2017:

That was hilarious. Somewhat blocked punt rolling on the ground, Eagle pancaked and was somewhat in the ball’s path, and Barner absolutely dragged him out of the way.

  151. 151 Dragon_Eagle said at 1:59 PM on November 26th, 2017:

I was with Charles Davis there I thought we’d run on that 3rd down play. Shame the backside pursuit got there or Wentz mighta been able to pick it up with his legs again.

Wonder why Ajayi is getting used so little. I like Blount, I just think Ajayi should be the lead back.

  198. 198 Donald Kalinowski said at 2:24 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Field position challenges rarely pan out. Never conclusive enough to overturn. HCs don’t get all the camera angles the fans do. Whoever told Pederson to challenge that needs to get fired.

  199. 199 RC5000 said at 2:40 PM on November 26th, 2017:

  200. 200 Donald Kalinowski said at 2:24 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Corey Clement is really good. That patience and hesitation is Laveon Bell-esque

  201. 201 CTbirdsguy said at 2:25 PM on November 26th, 2017:

That cut looked like one even Ajayi can’t make

  202. 202 FairOaks said at 2:26 PM on November 26th, 2017:

He’s played well, but don’t see that comparison.

  203. 203 Donald Kalinowski said at 2:27 PM on November 26th, 2017:

I meant that run was Leveon Bell-esque.

  204. 204 FairOaks said at 2:30 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Bell often comes to a near stop, tippie-toes, then explodes through a hole. Clement had pretty good head of steam that whole run. That was a really nice cutback and good run, and Bell makes those too, but didn’t see the Bell-unique qualities there, to me.

  205. 205 A_T_G said at 2:25 PM on November 26th, 2017:

You know, the Bears D is actually a little tough. I mean their offense has been awful and that’s why we’re getting so many chances, but their D is doing reasonably well.

  211. 211 Masked Man said at 2:36 PM on November 26th, 2017:

  217. 217 SteveH said at 2:32 PM on November 26th, 2017:

  218. 218 Donald Kalinowski said at 2:33 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Not choreographing these TD celebrations is complete bullshit. They definitely practice it.

  219. 219 FairOaks said at 2:34 PM on November 26th, 2017:

They definitely plan it. Could maybe buy they don’t actually practice it.

Some of the guys were “protecting” themselves, soccer free-kick style, which seems odd for a bowling ball. Wonder if they have another one planned at some point.

  220. 220 Westport_Johnny said at 2:33 PM on November 26th, 2017:

  232. 232 Iskar36 said at 2:36 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Wentz on that throw froze the safety incredibly well to allow Alshon to get wide open. The safety was moving to double team Alshon before the pump fake.

  244. 244 Howie Littlefinger said at 2:57 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Yea and we only have the best record and best point differential to show for it. Not like it’s been the Eagles completely dismantling teams. What do we do well? Can’t stop the run or get pressure on the QB.

We also can’t run it and we don’t have the league leader in passing TDs to show for it.

In conclusion: Clearly that Salty cowboy fan know his shit and is not BUTThurt in any ways.

  321. 321 SteveH said at 3:28 PM on November 26th, 2017:

In a way, we have sort of overlooked the Bears today. Super sloppy. Yet we’re still blowing them out 31-3. That’s how you know you’re a good team, you show up in this form and still put the hurt on em.

  322. 322 FairOaks said at 3:31 PM on November 26th, 2017:

We have only been sloppy in the second half. OK, guess the fumbles were a bit, but overall Eagles were very good in the first half.

  323. 323 Masked Man said at 3:31 PM on November 26th, 2017:

It’s hard to run it at 100% all the time, honestly. If you have to do that, you burn out.

If you can blow people away at 80% then you have a reserve to use in a crucial situation. And you don’t run the risk of burning out.

I think that’s like the human reality. But there’s some stuff to clean up, that’s no doubt.

  324. 324 Someguy77 said at 3:33 PM on November 26th, 2017:

I wouldn’t say they have overlooked them. They have put a whuppin on them on both sides of the ball.

  325. 325 Dragon_Eagle said at 3:35 PM on November 26th, 2017:

That we beast on teams (none of them having good seasons ) and are not a good fantasy team is strong.

    Crunch. Sack of Brees.

    Back to back Sacks

Two sacks catching Brees. Sounds like a nudist colony.

    Two Breesy sacks.

  398. 398 Dragon_Eagle said at 4:58 PM on November 26th, 2017:

We only scored 31 points today. Below average.

  399. 399 SteveH said at 5:16 PM on November 26th, 2017:

In order to get our points per game average up we need to actually play someone who makes us keep trying in the 4th quarter.

  400. 400 SteveH said at 4:59 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Started Ingram instead of Kamara. RIP my fantasy team.

  401. 401 A_T_G said at 5:02 PM on November 26th, 2017:

You have both? How do you ever decide which to play?

  402. 402 SteveH said at 5:07 PM on November 26th, 2017:

    Fanduel, not yearlong.

I basically made every wrong decision today. AJ Green or Julio? Went Green. Kamara or Ingram? Went Ingram. Gostkowski or Legatron? Went Gostkowski. Dion Lewis or Tevin Coleman? Went Lewis.

I figured Lewis was hot, Ingram was safer than Kamara, AJ Green is awesome vs. the Browns, Gostkowski was safer as a kicker than Legatron………

Plus Cam Newton decided to have a bit of a dud against the Jets.

  403. 403 SteveH said at 5:12 PM on November 26th, 2017:

My biggest takeaways so far are Kamara is really fast, he is a threat, and Jared Goff is not a threat with his legs at all. He’s not quite Nick Foles slow but he doesn’t move great in the pocket and doesn’t have much speed on the scramble.

  404. 404 Howie Littlefinger said at 5:38 PM on November 26th, 2017:

He does a back peddle like no one I have ever seen. So far it’s been working but I expect 2 picks against Goff.

Did Barnett play as much as he has been the past few weeks?

Seemed like Long got more snaps today but I would need to see the actual game stats.

  406. 406 SteveH said at 5:17 PM on November 26th, 2017:

I saw him in a bunch but wasn’t having much luck.

  407. 407 D3FB said at 5:35 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Agreed seemed like Curry got more of the playing time today, more 70/30 split than the 50/50 it has been recently

  408. 408 Someguy77 said at 5:22 PM on November 26th, 2017:

It seems like it is the Pats/Eagles and then everybody else right now in the NFL.

    At the Vet:

2000 team: 6-3 including an NFC Wildcard victory vs Bucs
2001 team: 5-4 including an NFC Wildcard victory vs Bucs
2002 team: 8-2 including an NFC Divisional round victory vs Falcons (also the infamous NFC Championship Game loss to the Bucs)

    At the Linc:

2003 team: 6-4 including an NFC Divisional round victory vs Packers (also the infamous NFC Championship Game loss to the Panthers)
2004 team: 9-1 including playoff victories vs Vikings in the Divisional Round and Falcons in the Championship Game.

Getting that no.1 seed is huge for us. Think we match up pretty well against every potential NFC opponent in the playoffs, but being home makes such a big difference against all the warm weather/dome teams we would likely face that i think that could make the difference.

  411. 411 Someguy77 said at 5:41 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Yup and cold weather to boot especially if it is against Old Man Brees.

“Eagles really haven’t had a notable home field advantage since the Linc opened in 2003 but that seems to have changed under Pederson.”

I think the excitement around Carson is a huge factor. We are loyal to a fault as a fanbase, but we really crank it up when we have a team and qB to get behind

  413. 413 Howie Littlefinger said at 5:36 PM on November 26th, 2017:

I wanted Kamara. Knew he would be great

  414. 414 kajomo said at 5:43 PM on November 26th, 2017:

I really wanted Cook. Kamara was my next guys. No idea why people loved mcccaffery other than the color of his skin.

  415. 415 Howie Littlefinger said at 5:55 PM on November 26th, 2017:

What NOBODY wants a white RB. Not to be racist. He’s a nice player but over valued imo

I didn’t want a RB before the 3rd. I wanted Kamara or Hunt. I’m very happy with Howie worked it out.

Somebody needs to put together a video montage of the various Eagles’ TD celebrations this year.

The Bowling one today might have been the best one yet.

NFL never should have banned them in the first place. Players obviously love it and it seems like fans/announcers do too.

  417. 417 Someguy77 said at 5:46 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Never seen an Eagles’ team with this kind of seemingly genuine chemistry and enthusiasm on the field.

Yeah they are winning and do so in a big way. Just watch when something positive happens and how many teammates congratulate one another. It is multiple guys on both sides of the balls.

Hell even on special teams when there is a big play you see it.

It is always hard to rate ‘intangibles’ but this team has it in spades right now. Hell even Peters is on the sideline cheering his teammates on and was actively involved in some of the OL coaching breakdowns today.

Never seen an Eagles’ team like this one. Certainly not the Gang Green teams where it was the offense on one island and the defense on another. Not even the prime Reid years either.

  418. 418 A_T_G said at 7:11 PM on November 26th, 2017:

If Peters wasn’t already in everyone’s top 5 all-time Eagles favorites, the way he handled this injury should cement he place.

  419. 419 Someguy77 said at 5:58 PM on November 26th, 2017:

Watching this game today with my dad and the only professional Philly coach he could think of that has had a similiar run as Pederson so was Fred Shero.

Shero struggled his first year as a head coach but in his 2nd year he got an unheralded Flyers’ team into the Semi-Finals. In his 3rd and 4th years, he won back-to-back Stanley Cups.

Both guys are low-key coaches who don’t yell or believe in belittling/criticizing players after or during a game. Also seem to have an ability to get the players to focus (notwithstanding some bad concentration lapses today) during a game along with their emphasis on pre-game preparation including ability to successfully convey details to their players. Neither was particularly enthusiastic or performed well when talking to the media.

Big difference though is that Shero was an introvert who often relied upon communicating in written ways while Pederson is a reported extrovert who is quite affable and supposedly big on verbal communication.
