Posted: November 20th, 2017 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 349 Comments »The Eagles came out red hot and then went into a bit of a funk. They trailed 9-7 at the half. The coaches made some adjustments and the Eagles dominated the 2nd half. They ended up winning 37-9.
Things got so ugly that Dallas pulled Dak Prescott and just tried to run out the clock late in the game.
The Eagles won the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
Rushing: PHI 215, DAL 112
Sacks: PHI 4, DAL 0
The 2nd half was just a total butt-kicking. The Eagles hadn’t run the ball much in the 1st half. They started feeding the ball to the backs and those guys produced. Jay Ajayi had the huge play with his 71-yard run. Dallas had to fight for every yard. It had to be soul-crushing to watch him run up the middle basically untouched for a gain like that.
The game was strange because PK Jake Elliott took a hit to the head and didn’t play the final three quarters. That meant the Eagles couldn’t kick FGs or extra points. They went for it on 4th downs inside the 40 and then went for two after TDs.
LB Kamu Grugier-Hill handled the KO duties and did an amazing job. He actually put the ball into the end zone a couple of times. He even had a touchback!!! This team has the Next Man Up vibe unlike any team I’ve ever seen.
There were a lot of heroes in this game.
- Derek Barnett had 2 sacks and was disruptive throughout the game. His strip-sack led to a FR score by Nigel Bradham.
- Ronald Darby came back for the first time since the opener and played well. He got away with an early PI in the end zone, but did a good job on Dez Bryant. Darby also picked off a pass.
- Alshon Jeffery has been huge the last couple of games. He was 4-67-1 and some of those catches were tough grabs. He’s coming up big when this team needs it.
- The RBs. Ajayi ran for 87 yards, Blount ran for 57 and Clement ran for 50, including a TD. Kenjon Barner had a huge catch early in the game and ran for a TD as well.
As for the marquee QB matchup…no contest. Carson Wentz was off tonight, but made clutch plays and ended up with 2 TD passes. Dak Prescott struggled all game long. He had to deal with a lot of pressure, but made some terrible mistakes. He threw 3 INTs and fumbled once. He also was just off target on some of his throws, both high and low. Dallas needed Dak to step up tonight and play like a star. Didn’t happen. 18-31-145 with no TDs and 3 picks.
The Eagles are now 9-1. They have a four-game lead in the division and have the best record in the league. This team has won three blowouts in a row and seems to be coming together at the right time.

Dak aint shit. I’ve been saying it and I’ll keep saying it until it’s commonly accepted wisdom.
My only complaint for the game is their running backs actually got over 100 yards combined for the game. Only just barely, but still.
Yeah, I was looking at the Dallas rushing stats. Not overpowering.
They had 27 carries for 112 and no TDs w/ under 4.2 yards per carry.
Alfred Morris can still do it for one game I guess.
He won’t last all year I’m betting.
Getting gashed by bum Alfred Morris wasn’t ideal.
I mean we can call him a bum and slow and make fun of him, but he has never done anything but succeed when asked to run a football in the NFL.
He’s always been a nice second back. Good power, good burst, solid but nothing special. He can catch you off guard when you’re playing the pass and rip off a big one here and there, and I suspect that’s what happened last night.
Nah, just good solid running. Of course they had success with the inside zone like Collins worth mentioned due to the Dak keeps. That is just basic NFL run game a this point. He is just a good back. People forget he has a season with more yards that Shady had when he won the rushing title.
It looked to me like the game plan for the d line was to ignore the run and just get after dak. They seemed to be flying up field like mad men on some of those longer runs by Dallas.
It looked like the whole team was just playing too fast that first half. Once they settled, the Cowboys couldn’t do anything but ask Tom Cruise to save them.
Their running game had a lot of success yesterday. It is certainly something to improve (greatly) upon. The option was a real issue. It wasn’t a whole lot of just out play our guys upfront and gain yards. It was a lot of deception. Our run game had a taste of that too so I can’t complain too much, but it must improve.
I love the fact that Dallas has married themselves to a drastically over-rated QB. He’s the kind of guy that will keep them at 8-8 for a decade. All you have to do is watch his footwork to see why he can never be consistent.
Like Romo. Great for us !!

I’d take Cousins over Dak every day of the week. He’s a much more technically sound passer.
I think they are both pretty good in that regard. If Dak loses out on stationary throws, he is pretty damn amazing from throwing on the roll. Don’t get me wrong, I think Dak is a very average NFL QB, but *Kirk’s* GM doesn’t even know his name.
Dak Prescott with that solid 30 QB rating tonight. One of the NFL’s brightest young stars.

I would say that every player Dallas lost, there are equal losses on the Eagles…RB, LT, LB. The Eagles have been able to overcome it, Dallass, not so much!

These six games are going to be a major blow to Dak’s confidence. He’s being exposed as the 4th round pick that he is out there.

He stepped into a great situation, with Zeke and that powerhouse O-line. He played well and got accolades he didn’t deserve. Now one and all know, “He’s no Carson Wentz.”

Tommy, this team is so unique in a positive way as you stated. I have no expectations, I just sit back and let them prove themselves each week. As of now, they may have an opportunity to knock on the door. All I see in the future is the Bears.

Doug entered the twilight zone for the first half before waking up in the second. Well not really, Wentz and the WRs weren’t playing well but damn run the ball if your QB is struggling.
For his first game back, Darby was great. He just moves so much faster and smoother than any of the CBs that we had. That is one talented dude. Mills is going to be Mills, he’ll get the job done. Robinson continues his good year, damn shame he’ll cost more than we’d like. Jenkins got his first pick of the year! I can’t really recall McLeod making plays other than getting tipped picks but someone has to make those right?
The DL continues to embarrass opposing OL. Cox and Jernigan are beasts. Graham is like the Boogie Man, he just lives in your QBs pocket. Barnett is playing great for a rookie, he could end up replacing Curry soon if Curry doesn’t take a hometown discount to stay.
LBs were quiet tonight but Bradham had that fumble recovery for 6.
Much love for KGH, kickoffs and the 2 point conversions were crazy.

I want one. They’ll be coming off of 7 consecutive games and will be likely to have quite a few guys with nagging injuries in need of rest.
I’m hoping that Week #17 will basically be a bye week. Some of those starters will have mysterious “injuries” crop up!
Although, the thought of sweeping Dallas (and the NFC East sounds pretty nice!)!
If we are playing for top seed, the game will matter. otherwise, it will be the reverse of last season’s last game.
You always, ALWAYS want the first round bye.
One fewer game on the way to the SB = one fewer chance to lose.
1 fewer game to chance injuries, and an extra game off to heal the wounded.

Wentz’s cold streak was partly because of drops, the receivers dropped 3 first downs during that lull.

The return of Darby helped make the Eagles secondary stronger and
gave Dez no room to operate. The defense was also able to negate Dak’s

Totally crazy that they went in to half time 7-9 and philly dropped
30 on them in the second half. Jerry is probably ready to take his

The Rams game presents a somewhat different challenge as they’re coordinated by Wade Phillips; so we’re going to really have to not wait until the 2nd half to start running because he kills QBs.

The importance of this, and what it means for the future of this team, cannot be overstated. Finding a legit starting LT in the 5th round (if that is the case) is the kind of dumb luck that leads to years of dominance.
Howie 2.0 is one charmed motorfinger.
Could be luck, could be good scouting. The Eagles have had two good drafts in a row since Howie returned to running the personnel department:
2016: Wentz was pretty clearly a home run. Mills and Vaitai are starting caliber players plucked with late round picks. Smallwood and Seumalo have been up-and-down but both have had their moments and might still have a future with the team. Joe Walker is a nice ST player if nothing else, which is all you can realistically expect from a seventh rounder.
2017: 3 of the top 4 picks (Barnett, Douglas, Hollins) appear to be hits, with the fourth (Sidney Jones) not having had a chance to prove himself yet due to injury. Gerry and Qualls have contributed some depth snaps/ST play, which again is about what you’d expect from late round guys. Jury remains out on Gibson and Pumphrey, granting neither got off to a great start. Even if they bust, however, early returns suggest this will still turn out to be a solid draft.
When I say “luck”, I’m not at all discounting the scouting. Call it a case of making your own luck. The last two drafts bear out the fact that this organization knows what it’s doing.
But a starting caliber LT with a 5th? Not quite Tom Brady with your 2nd 6th, but it’s pretty damn great.
The announcers tonight were absolutely horrendous. This is a total disgrace. We are talking about the biggest rivalry in the biggest sport in America and they were just lazy. Everyone talks about the drop of the ratings by claiming it’s the national anthem issue or the flag by the refs but those announcers were taking away a lot of fun in watching the game by just commenting plays like it was a chess game.
Al Michaels sounded like he was on sedatives. The king of hype – a master of subverting the present by spewing facts (instead of shutting the hell up and letting the plays have center stage), had a subdued performance. Yawn. I felt sorry for Cris Collinsworth.
Collinsworth was just as bad last night. While Al sounded like he was always moments away from pasing out on ambien, Cris was just horrible… was just such a Cowboys backer.
I would have preferred Romo calling the game. At least he gives you some insights. Now, if only his voice didn’t sound like he was still going through puberty.

That was an absolute beat down in the 2nd half. Pederson got himself corrected at half time and they came out and put one of the all time beatings on the Cowboys. These last 6 games should be a fun series of tests of a combination of focus, talent, and toughness.

Marianelli is a really good coordinator. What he’s been able to get out of a dysfunctional roster for the past couple years is remarkable.
The depth part is true. And the part about Philly’s defense being so much better.
Yeah, Marinelli has been a big part of their success. Been rooting for him to get a HC job for a while.
Not sure if he’s going to get much of a chance. He was head coach of the 0-16 Detroit Lions.

That is a different defense with Sean Lee in there. The difference is that while Jordan Hicks is a comparable player, the Eagles have the depth to compensate for his loss, while the Cowboys do not have the depth to compensate for the loss of Lee.

To be fair, Joe Walker is really poor, but not only do we have a DC and a versatile player to compensate (Jenkins), but they obviously identified the depth issue and addressed it by signing Ellerbee.
(Almost) every team suffers injuries to key players every year. That’s part of the game. Good coaches find a way to scheme around it compensate for having backups in the lineups at some spots.
Anti-Pederson bias aside, Mike Lombardi said it well on the GM Street podcast last night – Jason Garrett can only coach when he has a roster full of Pro Bowl-caliber players to work with. Most of the time you don’t have that luxury even if you have a very talented roster.

After the past few weeks, it has become apparent that Howie needs to resign Alshon. Torrey and Ags both have unreliable hands. I think last night’s outcome would have been much different without Alshon on the field.
Darby “getting away with” the PI seemed to be how they were calling the game last night. Neither team was called for it – reminded me of how Seattle used to (and still does somewhat) get away with PI constantly.
I have to say it’s frustrating to watch games being called so differently by different teams of refs. I’d really like to see more consistency from them!
Yeah, hat’s off to Vinovich’s crew last night. They let ’em play. The refs get too much camera time these days. They called the egregious ones and let the ticky tack stuff go, which is the way it should be in my opinion.

Regardless, that was a fun second half to watch. This team is special. We’ve gotten contributions from nearly everyone on the active roster. The coaching staff is awesome at making adjustments and prepping players. The front office has put together a great roster. I’m excited to see where this team goes and for the next decade or so of the Carson Wentz era.

The Cowboys will probably be free that week, maybe we can get them to play, just for fun. Also Washington and NY.
I saw a comment about how Darby was a surprise to see on the field all are, that conditioning was expected to be a concern. It made me think, how many time did the corners have to run down the field? I can remember one deep ball where Mills drilled Dez at he was in the air on the sideline for an incompletion. That is the only downfield throw that comes to mind before the garbage drive at the end.
Darby’s INT was a deep throw. Technically that was a completed pass.
I think the NFC is alot more interesting than the AFC. When it comes to the Rams, Vikings, Eagles, Seahawks, and Saints there really is no clear favorite. Nexr year you can also see the last 2 NFC title winners, Falcons and Panthers, as well as the Packers, Cowboys and Giants bounce back next year. On top of that the Lions, Redskins and the Bucs will he challenge for the playoffs every year. There really is only 2-3 crappy teams in the NFC.
Before Sunday, the NFC had 9 times with winning records, the AFC 5.
Besides making a great open field tackle on a punt, Kamu can kick. Who knew? To me, this is the best example of “next man up” with this Eagles’ team. HV is obviously another one.
So I don’t watch ESPN, but if I did I would be curious to see if they still had Dak as a 50 Superbowl winner best HoF QB ever and Wentz as jag.
In his last two games, Dak has been sacked 12 times, turned the ball over 6 times, put up 16 points, and compiled a QB rating of 69.0.
You don’t put up those kinds of numbers unless you’re a FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK.

Off topic to last night’s game: Saints lose Alex Okafor for the season due to a torn achilles. He’s been a big part of the defensive turn around in New Orleans.
Good News —
Saints still have to play the Rams, Panthers, and Falcons.
Vikings will play Lions, Falcons, and Panthers.
Those two NFC South division games are big- Panthers and Falcons.
Damn Redskins almost beat the Saints. If any team scares me it’s the Saints and Drew Brees.
And they just got Terron Armstead back.
They also lost Alex Okafor. Injuries cometh and goeth.
The other way to look at it is this:
The saints needed a crazy comeback to be the Washington team… and we know the Eagles are built in a way that is similar to Washington (but with more talent at most positions).
You are right about the need to make a comeback, but it’s the capability of Brews to lead such a comeback that concerns me. It’s that ability, when done repeatedly, that makes an elite QB. Not that Wentz doesn’t have that ability, because I think he does, but it’s still a situation he lacks experience in on this level.
Brees is a dangerous man indeed. The only kryptonite that I’m aware of with him is the pass rush up the middle, which as it happens is a strength of our Eagles team.
I’m not so bold as to suggest it would be a game the Eagles “should” win, but rather that it’s a matchup that they “can” win.
Saints are dangerous. As long as they have to play 1st round and 2nd round to get to the NFC Champs game, I think we’ll be OK.
Hope to see them below the 2nd seed in the NFC. Their defense got exposed some. But they are explosive on offense at times.
I think the Saints are the biggest threat as well. However if they have to come north to play the Eagles in the cold in an NFC championship game at the Linc I don’t rate their chances that highly.
Saints are much more of a running team now and they found a defense, They are equipped for playing in weather and outside a dome.
So are we though.
I very much look forward to beating the snot out of them. We owe them more than one.
The Eagles have the easiest remaining schedule by a fair margin in the NFC. Only teams with winning records we play are the Rams and Seahawks. We should be the heavy favorites to secure the #1 seed.
Lattimore and kamara are leading candidates to win def. and off. rookies of the year. However if DB gets to 8.5 sacks and Clement 10 TDs maybe..just maybe they pull off the upset.
The front office and coaching staff needs to be credited for a phenomenal job. We fans give ’em a lot of flack but outside of lattimore, kamara can we think of any two rookies we would want?.
DB is MR. Stripsack and all Clement does is score TDs . Outside of no. 11 when was the last time this team had not 1 but 2 freaking rookies we could be this excited about??!!!

Wentz, Big V, and Mills
The game determined the winner of the division and ended the who’s better, Carson or Dak controversy. Neither had a great game, but Carson came up with some clutch throws, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Dak 0-3.
One game doesn’t end that controversy. Both guys are good QBS. Don’t get me wrong because I believe Wentz is the better QB, but one game shouldn’t be used to make that determination. If the shoe was other foot and it was Prescott that had the stronger game I would feel the same way.
What this game showed was the impact of injuries and the importance of depth.
Most underrated on both sides of the ball right now:
My nods are Brooks at RG and Bradham at LB. Neither will get a Pro Bowl nod nor should they but there play isn’t that far off either.
Brooks impresses me the most given the issues he had last year (anxiety) and the ankle injury earlier this year he played through.
Wasn’t aware he was playing with an ankle injury earlier on.
I think you make a good case that both deserve to be in the Pro Bowl, Brooks particularly. He has been downright dominant this year and I believe he grades out as one of the best guards in the NFL according to PFF (for what that’s worth).
They won’t be able to play in the probowl.
Man, the Eagles really shut down the Cowboys wide receivers. Dez Bryant, Cole Beasley and Terrance Williams had no impact on the game. No deep receptions or 20+ plays, no TDs… Nada. Zilch.
Just a few slant pass receptions each for the entire game. And Jason Witten disappeared.
Darby was huge and had a big impact on the game in his 1st return outing. He got a big pick. Eagles Safeties Jenkins and McLeod fly around all game. Those two guys both got picks. Mills and Robinson play with lots of swagger and never seem to be out of position.
Ak also shut down the the Allas WRs too.
Our D was on fire all night. Felt like we were playing the pass all night. Sure was a thing of beautiy

Excellent point. The DL did its job as usual, but the DBs also made plays, contained everything, and took advantage of the opportunities when they came.
I was, in particular, impressed with the coverage on Beasley. He has killed us (and other teams) in the past. P. Robinson, in particular, had one really nice play with outstanding coverage plus a PBU on a sideline throw.
We just blew the F out of our greatest rival that was desperate for a Win and giving it all at home and the craziest part is we only played a half and a drive. This team is amazing.
The defense played 4 quarters.

That’s why KGH said after the game that he only practiced doing that for the first time a couple of weeks ago.

Did not hear. Elliot got his bell rung by Ryan Switzer on that first kickoff return.
Switzer got a big return as you recall, and Jake tried to lower his head and shoulder to tackle him near the sideline. Of course Switzer lowered his too and Jake got a shot to the helmet.
Jake will need a week for the concussion protocol clearance. Hope he is back strong next week with a clear head.
Dallas game plan – run the ball, get the ball out quick. When the produced 9 points, they had to go back to “their” bread and butter – which played into the Eagles hands. Dink and Dunk will keep you in the game – until….
Home field is going to be extra important for the playoffs, given how much Wentz changes plays at the line. Early in the game, seemed clear to me that the crowd noise was making adjustments difficult, hurting their rhythm. Be interesting to watch over this stretch of road games, particularly Seattle.

Few observations:
1. Barnett was sick yesterday. His pressure on delayed rush caused Dak to rush his throw and led to the Darby INT.
2. Barnett’s bend was on full display on strip sack. Made Byron Bell look FOOLISH.
3. 3rd and 1. First drive in second half. BIG BALLS DOUG with the play action pass to Celek. That got the momentum going.
4. Wentz was lit up on some of those throws after he threw it. He hung in there and delivered it PERFECTLY.
5. Wentz is sick with his field vision. The 2 pt conversion, when I thought he was just going to run out of bounds, then finds someone come open and threw across his body for the conversion was awesome.
6. Dougie P knows what buttons to push. He’s got the pulse of this team unlike Chip or even Andy.
7. Wentz was much more demonstrative after TDs. I was shocked/happy to see him make it rain… He’s really growing into this leadership role

I did not want Barnett in the draft. I’m glad he proving me wrong. He has been very good the last 3 games
I think a lot of people dismissed him because of “lack of athleticism” due to his pedestrian times in speed and agility tests and average size. Balance and body control are forms of athleticism however and he appears to be elite in both of those. His ability to bend around the edge and slip block attempts is elite already.
There’s a word for those people. In fact, there’s a variety of words one can choose from. Idiot, dumba**, fool, clueless, ignorant….etc…
It was a different approach this year, i.e. Chip years were all about measurables. This last draft was actually about college production, you win some and you lose some, Pumphrey vs. Barnett for example. Both drafted more based upon production more so than extrapolation. Do you win going the other route also? Yes, Ziggy Ansah and JPP come to mind.

I don’t know about everybody else, but when an opposing team tries and inside handoff I just start laughing.
My only real concern at this point: Wentz is taking too many brutal hits, my heart loves that toughness but my brain is scared about his durability for the next 10+ years.
He seems like he does the old rope a dope. Dude is a fighter and plays better after getting hit, honestly.
Lots of QBs his age take a ton of hits (see Newton, Luck, Prescott, etc.). As he ages I think you’ll see him start to unload the ball quicker.
Well the durability of the QBs you’ve mentionned is quite a concern. Newton and Luck have missed plenty of games and Dak seems to be affected by the suckswhenitmatteryllis.

He doesn’t take an abnormal number of hits.
I’d have to see the numbers but I’d be surprised if he’s not actually cleaner than the average QB. He gets good pockets, has great feet and awareness to avoid rushers., and slides/goes out of bounds on like 75% of his runs.
It “feels” like he takes a lot of hits because we all want so badly for him to take zero hits… This is (after all) a team that feels Superbowl bound.

I agree. Oddly enough though, I think one of the traits he shares with his hero Brett Favre is the following. I remember listening to Favre in some interview a decade or so ago say he was also super hyped and excited to play. So, much so that he’s was somewhat scattershot during the 1st drive or so until he took a couple hits and that settled him down. After that, things were good.
Do not interpret that to mean I’m suggesting Wentz should deliberately take a shot early in the game. Just I think he may get that hyper adrenaline rush and relish the contact.
My suggestion to you is that you might be better off watching NFL football.
Good point. Serious, we all love JP but we’ve basically watched him destroy his body so that he probably won’t be able to walk unassisted in 15 years.

Sad to hear. He was a Patriot and a Cowboy so I obviously never rooted for him as a player, but real life is a different thing.
When it comes to counterfactual history, we talk a lot about the Bridgewater injury being a point of divergence, allowing us to unload Bradford, recoup draft assets, and get Wentz into the saddle in his first season. It got me thinking about the Tennessee Titans outright refusing to deal the 2nd overall pick in 2015. If Chip Kelly had been able to “do the deal”, we’re probably married to him as the coach for at least one more season past 2015, and we never have the draft capital nor incentive to pursue Wentz the following spring. I recall the Titans brass seeming ambivalent to Mariota, but feeling like they sort of just had to take the best available QB in that spot.
Mariota is good. Would’ve taken similar draft picks and capital to get him. Wentz is probably better.
From all reports, it was going to take significantly more draft capital (at least one additional first round pick) plus Cox to grab Mariota.

interesting but I think the advantage of a better tackler will not be more than the decrease in KO ability. But would be an interesting experiment to try in practice, can you get a LB to be proficient enough to take the job from the kicker. [I tend to think not]
I love McAfee. I have a buddy who use to live in Indy and he was friends with a local radio host and they would party with McAfee all the time. Long story short the incident where McAfee got arrested in 2010 when found “swimming in a canal (1′ of water maybe lol), in the Broad Ripple (party section) of Indy” was due to my friend partying with him all night and McAfee gave up on trying to find my buddys apartment and fell into the body of water near the apartment, sometimes I remember that they are people like us lol.

They drafted Jones and traded for Darby along with having Mills/Douglas. Use those dollars to address other needs or lock up other players (e.g., Bradham).
Take advantage of his play this year for free to hopefully win a SB but know you can replace with Sidney next year
Exactly he is like Blount. Key low-dollar FA signings who helped them this year and have provided great value.
Move on from both next year though especially with Darby and Jones as the likely starters outside at CB and moving Mills inside.

Banner did a number of things that drove me crazy while he was here but his mantra of setting a price and readily moving on from Eagles’ veterans worked out almost every time including with Dawkins.

Broncos got 3/4 of a very god season out of Dawkins until he got injured and was a nonfactor the rest of the way.
Dawkins was generally a liability after his first year in Denver and they had to scheme around his limitations in pass coverage.
Problem is the Eagles never really adequately replaced him or Mikell until their recent duo (Jenkins/McLeod).
The one guy that Banner screwed up on and it really hurt the Eagles was not on paying Trotter.
Yeah if he wants top dollar and the playing time, see yah. Why give that when we can pay less and develop our homegrown studs for the long term?
Not saying he doesn’t deserve pro bowl CB $ and a starting spot but we aren’t in a position to need to give it

So I think the only way he’s here next season is we don’t draft a promising CB, PR settles for a franchise-friendly offer and Schwartz can get that kind of play from him after he signs (which is not a given).
Yeah, he’s going to command 3 years/15-20 million in free agency based on his play to date alone.

Howie has a big chip there. Offering a guy who has historically not been healthy, any sort of real guaranteed money, should get a deal done.
I am really confident he will be back. He will not get a crazy deal elsewhere due to age and injury history, we give him a chance to finish his career on a winner, he admittedly has a great relationship with jenkins, and I firmly believe these guys love playing with each other. A deal feels like a no brainer for both sides
He’s had a great year so far but he is most likely not coming back. Someone will pay him nicely for a 1-2 year contract. I think he deserves it but we have Jones, Darby, Mills. and Douglas. Not to mention the very real next man up mentality.

We have 5 quality CBs – Darby, Jones, Mills, Douglas, & Robinson. I don’t agree that we have 6. Please don’t say Watkins or Corey Graham. I fully acknowledge we may lose him but I don’t agree it’s a certainty yet.

Robinson has been mostly in the slot and slot CBs don’t get starting $. I do think 2.5 – 3 million is fair and they might have to go 2 years and spread it out.
He remained in the slot when Darby got hurt and he’s looked better in the slot in Sn Diego.
I just don’t think they want to invest anymore in that position. He’s played great and I hope they find someway to keep him. I just think someone will pay him over 5 mil per year. He’s playing the BEST on a top rated defense.

One of the reasons for our success has been our depth…next man up with talent. It depends on how much cap room they can free up. I could see them paying 2.5-3 million since they don’t have much money invested in their CBs.
The only 30 something CB getting a pretty big contract like that recently has been Brent Grimes who played great for years at outside CB.
He’s playing the BEST but that’s a lot easier to do when you’re covering the 3rd WR.

Loved the play where he batted down that pass to Beasley. Shifty guys like him are deadly if you don’t have someone who can match them. If we end up in a rematch with the Patriots, that will be important.

Run game took it to the Boys in the second half when they decided to readily commit to it.
Still the Eagles’ DL just continues to really impressive me. Yeah Morris was surprisingly effective at times but this DL just put a beating on Dak and hurried him repeatedly.
If Barnett keeps playing at this level, this is the best Eagles’ DL and that includes even the Gang Green group from 1990 or 1991. This group has more depth (Allen was injured last night though) and is more versatile.
Morris had a few goods runs (22, 20, 12, 10). Beyond that he was lucky to get 2 yards and a cloud of dust.
I’d rather give up a two 20 yard plays on the ground and stuff the other 16 hand offs.
You can’t take away the good runs, but he was pretty much ineffective.
I also think he’s a really good player and can easily be a featured back.

few weeks ago a few of us were praising what a wonderful job McDermott was doing in Buff — a couple of loses and now that team is a mess. That rookie was not ready to be a starter. Game was way too fast for him.

Most expected Lane and Brooks to have a good year. But I’ll be damned if Kelce isn’t playing at a very high level. Wiz and Vaitai also seem to be playing well.
I know either Pederson or Reich said earlier this season that they took some responsibilities away from Kelce and simplified his duties to help him excel.
ESPN just had a segment on Lane vs Demarcus Lawrence and how well he handled him.

Because someone would have to be cut to make room for a second kicker to fill in until Elliott is healthy – Sturgis or a FA – Doug suggested they might just go for two throughout the Chicago game so as not to lose someone.
It would seem to me like you could talk to a vested vet that would otherwise be inactive anyway and be pretty confident he won’t sign elsewhere during the week. Players that need to pass through waivers ould be the only risk.
Hate to say it. Wouldn’t miss Smallwood much though.

I took me a little while to figure out the typo in Banner’s Tweet.
He’s not wrong though. Watching Russell Wilson run for his life tonight with his horrible offensive line will be more telling of their chances this year then third banged up secondary.
Thank you for pointing out the typo, my brain weirdly filled in “teams” then him someone singling out the Texans specifically and I’m like, Woah Joe, then Texans definitely invest in their D-line at least.
I was thinking about that first half, everyone was off after that first drive. I think people were identifying the time in the tent as the turning point for Wentz, but there was a drive before that when he might have had his worst drive, I really don’t think the blow to the head was responsible. He and his receivers were just off.
I’m not sure why we went so pass heavy. It seems like Pederson doesn’t like to start his drives off run-heavy. He starts his drives off a bit over-eager to get to the other side of the field, and with all the 3 and outs, it added up to a huge run deficit in the first half. I wonder how many of our run plays are audibled at the line by Wentz and the crowd noise hurts that? We need to lean heavy on the run from here on out though. Keep Wentz healthy, save those career highs for the post-season if we need them.

Well put, I was struggling to put it to words, but exactly that.
Well stated, Ark. Coming off longer breaks or byes might be different than other situations. Otherwise, all the 1Q play calling has gone very well.
Remember? Coming off the 10 day break from Thur 10/12 at Carolina to Mon 10/23 at home with Washington, they started slow and sloppy until finally taking a lead with time running out in the half.
That’s why I was predicting a sluggish 1Q again this game. But it lasted through the entire half at Dallas yesterday. The script led to 7 points. But after that the team was scoreless in spite of 2 interceptions by our defense to give some great field position.
Doug tried to pass his way into a rhythm, and that usually seems to work. But with longer breaks, maybe the run game early on to knock the rust off would have worked better during the 2Q. It worked in the 3Q.
Don’t know if some rough tough up tempo practice time during an off weekend would help the team keep their physical and mental sharpness. Just a thought. Have know way to know if coaches think that it could help to simulate game activity when off.
And it wasn’t the defense that seemed off at all, but the timing of the offense beyond the scripted plays. A lot to think about here.
But assuming we have a playoff bye week ahead, we’ll be coming off a two week break again soon. Maybe some energetic off week practice and or going to the run game after the 1Q opening script could help.
Who knows? That’s why Doug gets paid the big bucks. Maybe Tommy has some thoughts he would share.

Had the same thought, even went as far as thinking “which is better, the 1 seed or 3 seed in the playoffs” thinking about some red-hot damn-good team coming out of the wild card round and ripping into a sloppy but well rested Eagles team and just wondering if they can keep the game in reach for when they finally do wake up.
Didn’t mention it because:
A) don’t want to contribute to the getting way ahead of ourselves train on trap-game week (in the true meaning of the trap game btw, got @Seattle and @Rams coming up, so so easy to overlook Bears @ Philly as a gimme game)
B) Of course you take a superbowl for the price of 3 wins instead of 4, and home field adavantage….I think, can’t stop thinking about it though!
If you watch NFL playoff games you see that. Often the rested bye week teams wins.
But there’s plenty of times when a hot playoff contender that won in the first round will knock a sluggish bye week team out of the box.
Is it better to be a hot team that plays two rounds to get to the NFCG?
Or is it better to be the rested team that only has to win one “cold start” game to get to the NFCG?
Some would say that by that stage of the season, the rest is better. The Eagles are deep and talented with no holes on the roster so maybe the rest would automatically be better if they blow teams away in the 2nd half anyway.
Good point on the rest. That’s something I didn’t account for 1 less game of attrition is huge. Just a little less likely not to lose key players on the road to glory is a big deal.

Talking about next man up vs. making excuses, Hill was actually the 4th man up in that responsibility, after Sturgis, Elliott, and the planned emergency kicker Maragos. This team is just so much fun.

So apparently Belichick didn’t like playing in Mexico, saying it is just a tough trip to plan for. He certainly makes it sound like a pain. I don’t blame him and I guess and I don’t have an opinion one way or the other, but this quote:

As a geologist, I can assure you Belichick is an uniformed idiot who bought into fear mongering.
If he’s worried about earthquakes and volcanoes in Mexico, he might want to stay away from California so he doesn’t catch on fire.
He should also stay away from New Orleans and Houston so he doesn’t get caught in a Hurricane.
He should probably stay away from KC and the Midwest so he doesn’t get killed by a tornado.
Seattle, San Fran and Oakland should also be avoided due to the large number of fault lines and chance of a 7.5 earthquake or higher.
Being afraid of the West Coast fault lines is not… exactly stupid. Depends on your tolerance for risk, I guess. 🙂

Just watching the highlights and 2 observations on Kendricks; when Mcleod Intercepted Dak, MK looked disappointed that he wasn’t given the opportunity to block for Mcleod on the return (due to Dez making the quick tackle). Then on the Barnett strip-sack, MK accelerates over and makes the perfect block for Bradham to go in untouched. Amazing speed and great execution.
Kendricks is fast. Having a career year too.
We could really use someone to stretch the field. If only we had a tall WR that could run pretty fast for his size..

With how he is at that point the large majority of edge rushers in this league would either falls down before QB, grab QB by legs, or get him around the hips. To create that strip sack from where he was at point of the picture is somewhat special.

one thing i gotta say that i love about this team is our 2 offensive coordinators are career backups qbs. one played behind favre and legendary coaches. dont know much about Frank W. but heard he made one of the greatest comeback in history. so if anybody knows how to adjust should be them and they are doing a phenomenal job right now. also if anybody should know the importance of running the football would be qbs and they also proving that keeping it more than balance

Frank Reich was the long-time backup to Jim Kelly on the Buffalo Bills. In college, he came back from a 31-0 halftime deficit to beat Miami, which was then the biggest comeback in NCAA history (since been eclipsed). In a playoff wildcard game, the Oilers had a 35-3 lead in the second half, and Reich lead that comeback as well, which I think is still the biggest comeback in NFL history. Kelly had been injured in the last regular season game, and I think Reich played the next game too before Kelly came back, as the Bills went to their fourth consecutive Super Bowl (and fourth consecutive loss).
They (plus QB coach DiFilippo) have done a great job. And Nate Sudfeld, given the choice, seemed to prefer to ride the bench and continue to be coached by those guys rather than sign with another team and maybe play.
Seattle goes down. 6-4 now. Atlanta also 6-4.
Best case scenario? I think it is.
Not so sure now, I felt pretty confident we would beat Seattle in Philadelphia in the playoffs with their secondary injuries. Wilson wouldn’t be able to magic up enough points to win the game.
If Atlanta can sort themselves out offensively they have the raw talent to come in and compete with the Eagles.
