The First Move

The #Eagles are expected to release DE Vinny Curry, source said, putting another key pass-rusher on the market. He was due $9M this year. Up against the cap, Philly clears some needed cap space.

The only caveat is the #Eagles are attempting to restructure and redo his deal. If that happens he could stay… will take a lot of work. https://t.co/O5EcFTgcAY

Update on the #Eagles and DE Vinny Curry after talking with a team official: They are currently in negotiations to try to keep Vinny Curry at a different salary. Teams are also interested in potential trading for him. It sounds like nothing is quite done yet.

My guess…the Eagles want to trade Curry. Rapoport posted his nugget and the Eagles then contacted him to try and spin the situation. If other teams think the Eagles are going to let Curry go, they have no incentive to trade for him.
Howie Roseman has a good poker face and normally does a great job with situations like this. The problem is that the Eagles need to clear cap space so he is going to have to make a move in the next 10 days. There will be deadline pressure on him and that makes it tougher to negotiate.
Trading Curry for a late round pick makes the most sense. It helps the cap situation and opens the RDE spot for Derek Barnett, who flashed big time ability in 2017. The Eagles want to get Barnett on the field more this year. The team doesn’t have many picks so adding even a late round pick could help.
Jimmy Bama has the financial details of the Curry situation here.

Speaking of picks…
As frustrated as I get that the Eagles don't have a 2nd or 3rd round pick, that feeling fades when I remember they have a Lombardi Trophy.

There are all these good looking prospects at the Combine and some of them I just know the Eagles have no shot at. It gets frustrating if you’re a draftnik like me.
But then…
