Big Names

Howie Roseman and the Eagles front office have been busy clearing up cap space. Some people see this as meaning that a big move could be coming.

Antonio Brown?

Le’Veon Bell?

I don’t see either move happening. Brown is a workhorse WR that demands the ball. The Eagles had great success in 2017 by spreading the ball around. No one demanded the ball and all the skill players somehow got along well. Brown would destroy that dynamic.

The Eagles would also have to trade for him. You’d be spending big money and picks to get Brown. That’s a lot for a team that already has Alshon Jeffery in place.

Bell is a stud RB and would be a great addition, but he’s going to cost big money at a position that teams don’t seem to value as much.

Beyond that, Howie Roseman really wants to get a comp pick for Nick Foles. If the Eagles sign a free agent to a big deal, that would cancel out losing Foles. No comp pick.

The Eagles will sign some free agents, but I don’t see them going for the top guys.

While I don’t see the Eagles going for the elite players, it is possible they could target an interesting veteran, like someone from the list above.

We know Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod are the starting safeties. Corey Graham will not be returning. That means the team could add a veteran to be the #3 safety.

Would a veteran like Glover Quin have interest in coming to Philly as a role player?

There are a slew of younger players who might have to take a lesser role due to a flooded market. Tre Boston has played for three teams in three years, but he’s been productive for all of them. Jimmie Ward has the kind of versatility and coverage skills the Eagles seem to like.

Ha-Ha Clinton Dix and Landon Collins once looked like stars in the making. You wonder if they would sign one of those guys to a short deal.

Is there any way they Eagles could sign Eric Weddle and make McLeod the #3 safety? That would be interesting to be sure. Weddle is versatile a playmaker. It would be fun to see him in midnight green.

Of course, all of this is moot if the Eagles decide Avonte Maddox should move to FS full time. At that point, the Eagles would have a good trio of safeties and wouldn’t need to sign a veteran.

It really is hard to project what the Eagles will do because we’re just not sure what they are thinking in regard to some players.
