Eagles Draft Interest

The draft is a month away. That means it is time to look at who the Eagles are paying special attention to.

I didn’t list any local schools or players below. The Eagles always have a heavy presence at Villanova, Temple, Delaware, Rutgers and Penn State. They might genuinely have strong interest in a prospect, but it is hard to tell because it is so easy for the team to go to their Pro Days or set up a visit.

So what can we take away from looking at this list?

The Eagles are heavily interested in OL/DL. And they are looking at guys who are first and second round targets. It is no surprise that they are doing this, but it is always worth noting.

The Eagles are sending Duce Staley to every freakin’ Pro Day they can think of. It really feels like they are going to take a RB early in the draft. With that in mind, they are being very thorough by having Staley check everyone out.

The team is looking at some TEs. That might seem odd with Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. They could use a third TE to add to the mix. The Eagles won’t be spending a high pick on anyone, but are checking out some players they’re interested in.

So far Tyree Jackson of Buffalo is the only QB I’ve seen them checking on. He is a big, athletic and strong-armed QB so he fits the mold (Wentz, Foles, Sudfeld). The question with Jackson is where he goes. I don’t see the Eagles spending an early pick on him, but if he slides a bit, maybe they take him. Jackson is incredibly talented, but needs work.

One thing I’m curious about is the team showing interest in big CBs, JoeJuan Williams and Amani Oruwariye. Do the Eagles see them as possible safeties? Are they interested in adding more big CBs to the mix? I don’t know how to read this.

Things are very quiet on the LB front. I find that a bit odd.

I’m also surprised the team isn’t showing more interest in top WRs. The Eagles are set for now, but we know when it comes to receivers, you have to draft early. It takes time for them to develop. You would draft a receiver now to get him ready for 2020 or 2021.

Take this for what it’s worth.

The Eagles-Jacobs talk won’t be slowing down until after pick 25 (or if Jacobs goes before that).

*****

He was special.
