Help Needed
Posted: November 4th, 2019 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 3 Comments »DeSean Jackson was the missing piece. He was going to bring the deep ball back to Philly and help the Eagles light up the scoreboard. That formula worked great for a week. Then DeSean got hurt in Atlanta and missed the next seven games.
DeSean practiced last week and took the field against the Bears, but only for a series. The Eagles talked about that being a preventative measure. Apparently that was wishful thinking.
Eagles’ WR DeSean Jackson is expected to be sidelined “at least six weeks” with a core muscle injury that will require surgery on Tuesday in Philadelphia with Dr. William Meyers, per source.

Not good. “At least six weeks” basically means DeSean is DeDone for the year. Ugh. So much for the Eagles having a true vertical threat.
The hot debate right now is who to blame. Is this on DeSean for not having surgery? Is this on the medical staff for not handling it correctly? Is this on the coaching staff for playing him too soon? There is no definitive answer to those of us on the outside. This statement from the Eagles is a bit awkward.

I don’t know what how that statement should read, but that feels a bit off. Or maybe I’m just over-analyzing every word.
DeSean wants the world to know he’s not to blame.
I put all my passion into this shit I don’t care if anyone ever doubt that !! Know I’ll come bac stronger than ever !! If you mad that’s understandable I’m more Angry than anybody but it’s GODS plan not mine !! Trust… https://t.co/RgNMdQuyDq

I’m not as interested in all of that. I’m more focused on the football side of things.
The Eagles were counting on DeSean’s return. Now they must make changes. Doug Pederson said a couple of interesting things at his press conference. He admitted the team has to consider adding WR help. That sounds brutally obvious, but coaches don’t always admit that. They love to talk about counting on the players already on the roster. The Eagles clearly need help. I’m glad Pederson can acknowledge that.
He did also talk about the need to get J.J. Arcega-Whiteside involved in the offense. I know the rookie hasn’t done a thing all year, but he hasn’t been given much of a chance. The coaches have mixed him in here and there, but haven’t made a distinct effort to get him going. That will change.
I’m not delusional. JJAW isn’t going to turn into Larry Fitzgerald or TO in a week. I do think the young man can contribute. He played really well in the preseason. I know much of that was against scrubs, but I thought he showed legit talent. This passing game needs all the help it can get. Find a way to use him.

You’re telling me that guy can’t help at all? Call a play to get him the ball. Push him. See what he can do. This isn’t about the future anymore. The Eagles need help now.
I think the Eagles should absolutely give Jordan Matthews a call. He was productive last year and knows the offense. He can step in right away. Another former Eagle WR is Marcus Johnson. He’s out there.
The Eagles aren’t going to find “the guy”. They need to find some help.
I do think the timing of this helps out. With this being the bye week, the coaches can study the tape and get a better feel for what the problems are. Why is Mack Hollins not contributing at all? Is he getting open? Is Carson Wentz ignoring him? Hollins plays plenty of snaps. The ball isn’t coming his way. Why is that? We all blame him, but maybe Wentz or the coaches need to do something different.
Nelson Agholor isn’t producing like he should. It sure feels like a lot of that is on him. Drops. Not seeing the ball. Not reaching for the ball. The coaches need to figure out how to get his mojo going. Agholor isn’t dynamic by any stretch, but he should be more productive than he is. He’s too talented to be averaging 8.8 yards per catch.
The Eagles are 5-4. There are reasons for optimism. But the passing game is an issue and the coaches know that. They have to figure some things out and hope the personnel department can find the right guys to come in and help out.
By the way: The #Eagles claimed Cre’Von LeBlanc off waivers on Nov. 5 last year.
It is possible to find contributors this time of the year.

They hit a home run last year. Can they come close to that this time around?
