Last Minute Shopping

The draft is less than a week away. Teams know their rosters. They know their cap situation. Things are pretty set.

But there is still time to do some last minute shopping.

Could the Eagles have interesting in bringing back Burton? I wouldn’t say that’s likely, but it certainly is possible. Burton may want to go somewhere he can be the backup TE and have a chance to be part of the offense. A return to Philly would mean playing special teams and being the #3 TE.

At the very least, the Eagles will consider this move. They have an interesting option if they want it.

Beyond Burton, there are plenty of players still available.

High quality DEs Everson Griffen and Jadeveon Clowney are still on the market. We keep expecting one of them to sign with Seattle, but nothing has happened so far. Griffen is older than the Eagles would prefer and Clowney has had injury issues. Still, the price on both has to be dropping and that could make the Eagles take them into consideration.

Yannick Ngakoue is still out there, but no good rumors in regard to him right now.

There are rumors that WR Kenny Stills is being shopped by Houston. I think he would make sense for the Eagles. They may prefer to wait until after the draft to see which WRs they can come away with.

If the Eagles want a veteran RB, Devonta Freeman is on the market. He would be an interesting addition to the backfield.

LB Darron Lee is still on the market. He’s a young player that can run. Lee is coming off a disappointing season (only two starts), but I’m surprised there has been so little interest in him.

Jason Peters remains available. I think the Eagles want to go younger so this doesn’t seem likely. I am surprised that no other team has gone after Peters. He is old, but would be an upgrade for more than few teams.

The Eagles have made moves just before and just after the draft over the years. We’ll have to wait and see if they have any last minute moves this time around.

Daniel Jeremiah was doing a segment on the NFL Network where a question was posed about whether the Eagles are a lock to take a receiver in the first round. DJ responded that the Eagles are not a lock to do that.

His point isn’t that the Eagles will go away from WR, but rather that they won’t force the issue. They aren’t going to take a WR at 21 if they have a higher rated player on the board at another position.

DJ mentioned LB as a possibility. I covered that recently.

He also said safety was a possbility.

Jalen Mills is signed to a one-year deal. So is Will Parks. Rodney McLeod is older. The team could use a young safety to build around for the future.

Howie Roseman talked about improving team speed. Adding a young, fast, playmaking safety would make a lot of sense.

DJ is friends with multiple people inside the Eagles organization. If he says something, listen.

Plus he went to Applachian State so you know he’s smart and 100 percent trustworthy.

With all the talk of adding a LB, it does seem like the Eagles will invest a high pick at that spot (if the value is right, of course). I would love to see the team go for Logan Wilson in the second round.

It would be fun to have him running the middle of the field for the next 5 years.

Or more.
