Reinforcements

The Eagles are still a very banged up team, but they will be getting some players back on Sunday and hopefully more back after the bye. Let’s start with what we know.

Here is the injury report from Thursday.

Jason Peters has practiced at LT this week and appears likely to start there on Sunday. Jordan Mailata has been taking snaps at RT, but it seems like Lane Johnson is intent on trying to play.

Both Peters and Johnson struggle to stay on the field so Mailata could be needed at either spot. I would prefer not to bench him for Peters, but if you do that the backup RT is Matt Pryor or Brett Toth. Neither is a compelling option.

Jack Driscoll should be back after the bye so that would help the OL depth a lot.

Carson Wentz will have another weapon to work with. The coaches can mix up different lineups. I would love to see Travis Fulgham and John Hightower on the outside, with Reagor in the slot. That would give you a lot of speed on the field at once.

It would be great to get Goedert back as well. Richard Rodgers has done a nice job, but Goedert is one of the better TEs in the league.

The defense should be getting back T.J. Edwards and Avonte Maddox. Malik Jackson was limited in practice. He would be ideal for this game, but it feels like the team may sit him another week.

It will be interesting to see who makes it back onto the field on Sunday and how they perform. There will be some rust.

The trade deadline is approaching and that could mean more players on the move. Per Albert Breer:

Names of Eagles and Vikings players have continued to pop up, as two teams that expected to contend and have had rough starts consider their options. Eagles S Will Parks and Vikings franchise-tagged S Anthony Harris are new available names that I’ve heard over the last few days.

Breer also mentioned that Alshon Jeffery is available. That’s hardly shocking.

Parks being available is somewhat surprising. The Eagles have players coming back and need roster spots. I’m sure that is part of the motivation. I think they also see Parks isn’t part of a championship defense. If you can move him for a late pick, you don’t lose that much by going back to K’Vonn Wallace or even Marcus Epps.

The fact we aren’t hearing about the Eagles as shoppers is encouraging. If you can find a bargain, great. But this is not the year to use a mid-round pick on someone to put you over the top.

I’m not sure if this is good news or not. Dalton has more experience, but you know what to expect from him. DiNucci is the better athlete and more of a wild card. It is harder to prepare for him.

If DiNucci ends up as the QB, it will be interesting to see how Jim Schwartz attacks him.

Fran Duffy shared an interesting stat on the Dallas D. They allow more yards before contact than any other team in the league. That tells you their DL is getting moved off the ball.

Almost as bad, they are near the bottom of the league in yards after contact.

Yikes.

They are dead last in run defense and allow 5.2 yards per carry.

Miles Sanders probably won’t make it back so this is a huge opportunity for Boston Scott. The Eagles must run the ball well against this defense. This could also be a good week for Jalen Hurts to get mixed in several times.
