Game Preview – PHI at DAL

The Eagles play their first truly must-win game of the year. Usually this is when Doug Pederson is at his best. The Eagles have been lights out in December in each of the past three seasons.

This is the first time they’ll play these games with a patchwork offensive line and a rookie quarterback. Will that make a difference?

Dallas struggles to stop the run. They struggle with running QBs. This would be an ideal time for Pederson to go ground ‘n pound. That would let his OL focus on run blocking and force Dallas to chase Miles Sanders, Jordan Howard, Boston Scott and Jalen Hurts. This is a game where you definitely want designed QB runs dialed up for Hurts, as well as scrambles. His mobility could be the key to today’s game.

DeSean Jackson could be the X-factor.

Jackson will be limited, but he doesn’t need to play a ton of snaps to make a difference. It will be interesting to see if the coaches call a deep shot to him early in the game.

I’m excited to see what Hurts can do. He could have a big game. The circumstances are favorable in terms of matchups. Dallas will be withouth their #2 and #3 leading tacklers. The Eagles have all their weapons (why are you laughing at that word?). If Matt Pryor can hold up at RT, the Eagles should move the ball.

Could this be the first 30-point game of 2020? That’s a sad question.

The Eagles defense will be missing a pair of DEs and a starting LB. They do get back Darius Slay, who can put the clamps on Amari Cooper. If Michael Jacquet and NRC can limit the other two receivers, that will put pressure on the run game.

Zeke will play, but that’s not necessarily bad news. He hasn’t been the same level of player this year. Tony Pollard is the runner who makes me nervous. He’s got big play ability.

The Eagles have generally done a good job vs opposing RBs. I’m sure Dallas will have a few trick plays to try and get the best of Jim Schwartz and the young guys in the back seven. The Eagles have to limit the effectiveness of those plays.

Special teams is a major question for the Eagles. They hurt the team last week. If Dallas can win the kicking game, that gives them a key advantage. The Eagles will have Cam Johnston back and that is good news.

A lot of Eagles fans are confident in Hurts and the team. This game makes me nervous. I’m always that way before playing Dallas so maybe it’s just me.

Go Eagles!
