Hey Joe
Posted: March 26th, 2021 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 7 Comments »Joe Flacco met the Philly media on Thursday to share his thoughts on signing with the team he grew up watching. He was asked about mentoring Jalen Hurts. He was asked about coming home. He was asked about mentoring Jalen Hurts. He was asked about coming home. He was asked about mentoring Jalen Hurts. He was asked about coming home.
Notice a theme there?
Joe comes off as a pretty likeable guy. He does seem excited to be coming home to Philly to play.
He did make it clear that he wants to compete. I don’t think this came off as selfish or delusional. You want players that believe in themselves and who want to compete for playing time. If guys are too quick to accept backup roles, it can make you wonder if they really care. Are they just collecting checks at that point?
Flacco wasn’t going on about how awesome he is and how he won a Super Bowl. He just said he wants to compete. He said he would support the other QBs, but competition is what really brought out the best in others.

Fantastic job here by Fran to show you just how good Anthony Harris can be.

If K’Von Wallace can develop into a solid SS, the Eagles would have a nice duo for 2021. Rodney McLeod will likely start the year on PUP. We’ll see if he can make it back to the field this year.

We’ll have to wait for Fran’s breakdown of Flacco. For now, here are some highlights from last year with the Jets.
Those are not compelling highlights. Flacco isn’t a compelling player. He has struggled in recent years, but the Eagles see something they like so we’ll see if he can really push Jalen Hurts or if he’s purely a backup.

Alex couldn’t go anywhere, but still nice to see him officially back.

Alex was one of the few things to go right in 2020. The new coaching staff has had success with LBs in their system so I’m interested to see if Singleton can continue playing well or possibly even get better.

Could someone be joining Singleton?
Source: Eagles have expressed interest in free-agent linebacker Neville Hewitt.
Bengals, Packers and 49ers are also in the mix for Hewitt, per sources.
Hewitt led the Jets with 134 tackles in 16 starts last season.

This feels a lot like a writer doing a favor for an agent. Hewitt is productive, but a limited player. There hasn’t been much of a market for his services. One way to change that is for his agent to have a writer or two leak interest in the player.
If this is true, he could be good depth, but is nothing to get excited about.
If this is just the rumor mill, you learned the name of a new player today.
