Day 3 Preview

Day 3 of the NFL draft is crucial. This is where teams have the most picks and can really bolster a roster. You aren’t looking for starters with each pick. You are hoping to find them of course, but also want good role players and backups to develop.

Let’s look at the Eagles picks so far.

1 – WR DeVonta Smith – Alabama
2 – OL Landon Dickerson – Alabama
3 – DL Milton Williams – Louisiana Tech

The Eagles added a playmaking receiver, a future starter at guard or center and a versatile, disruptive DL.

I left off WR because I’m not sure the Eagles will want to add to that spot after taking Smith and 3 guys last year. That’s a lot of youth already in place.

There are good players to be had. Part of me would love to see the team add RB Michael Carter or Kenneth Gainwell at 123. Those guys would be a lot of fun to watch in midnight green.

I expect the Eagles to trade TE Zach Ertz today. Would a 5th round pick be enough? The Eagles might prefer to get a pick next year.

Howie Roseman has traded for veterans during the draft (Hasaan Ridgeway, Marquise Goodwin). You wonder if he might try to land a veteran CB today. I’m not sure if any team is looking to move someone, but Howie will talk to teams to see what’s out there.
