Finding the Right Way
Posted: August 7th, 2021 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 2 Comments »Jalen Reagor has been a disappointment since he was drafted in the first round a year ago. There have been injuries and other issues that affected him, but the bottom line is that he hasn’t performed well enough. This is a huge year for him.
A lot of people got excited when they read this.
Nick Sirianni just unloaded on Jalen Reagor following a second round rep. Like legit tore into him. #Eagles

Fans love when coaches turn into tough guys and yell at players. This isn’t always the smartest way to do things. Yelling at someone is hardly a proven way to make them perform better.
I was happy to read this because it showed Nick Sirianni is willing to be an asshole when needed. Nobody wants to be an asshole (except Jimmy Bama, Buddy Ryan and Axl Rose), but sometimes you need to do that. Sirianni is more naturally a teacher. He’s a young coach and seems to prefer connecting with his players and cajoling a good performance out of them.
When that doesn’t work, you have to let loose and push some other buttons.
Sirianni knows that he’s more likely to have a successful tenure in Philly if Reagor plays well. As the coach said the other day, “It’s the Jimmys and the Joes, not the X’s and the O’s.”
Sirianni must find a way to get the best out of Reagor. And as we saw at times last year and throughout his college career, Reagor is an explosive athlete with huge potential. He can be a key player for the Eagles. It is up to the coaches to find the right buttons to push.
The day after Reagor got some tough coaching we saw this.

Wow. And then some.
Reagor’s overall practice was still up and down, but it was good to see him make a play like that. The talent is there. He just has to find a way to eliminate the mistakes and make more plays. Sirianni has spent a lot of time with the wide receivers and has been very hands-on with Reagor.
The young coach is smart enough to know the Eagles are magically winning games because of his schemes or pre-game speeches. Sirianni has to get the most out of his players.

5 takeaways from PHI
1) If Josh Sweat stays healthy, he’ll get 10+ sacks.
2) Hurts will lean heavy on TE’s
3) OL is very deep
4) Devonta Smith will be back soon & he’s been as advertised. They love his route running savvy & ball skills.
5) Javon Hargrave is in great shape!— Daniel Jeremiah (@MoveTheSticks) August 4, 2021
Josh Sweat has been the talk of camp. This might be the year he finally puts it all together. He came into the league with explosive potential, but he was raw and needed to learn how to play DE. Rushing the passer is more than just flying off the ball. Sweat seems poised for a big year and that would be huge for the defense.
Which TEs? Could this change the Eagles thinking on Zach Ertz? I don’t think so, but I’ve been wrong plenty of times before.
The OL is deep. I just wish we didn’t have to see the backups already in starter roles. Hopefully Isaac Seumalo and Brandon Brooks will be ready for the regular season. A healthy OL is crucial for this offense to have a chance.
Can’t wait to see DeVonta in the regular season.
I haven’t said much about Hargrave this summer, but all the camp reports say he’s been outstanding. If Hargrave plays at a high level, that will give offenses real issues, with Fletcher Cox being beside him and Brandon Graham and Sweat flying off the edge. The Eagles DL was good last year. They could be even better this year.

#Eagles Practice Buzz:
S Elijah Riley – ST Captain?
CB Zech McPhearson – Top Rookie in Camp!
WR Quez Watkins – Led WR drills. Stacking practices!
C Luke Juriga – Athletic! Screens, Traps, Combos, etc.Kelce-like skills
DB Josiah Scott – 2nd Team Nickel. Ball Skills! INT today

Ben has talked about Riley being very active and vocal in STs drills. That won’t sound like a big deal to the casual fan, but it is huge to the coaches. They know how crucial STs is. Riley might work his way onto the roster if he keeps this up and performs well in the preseason games.
Quez Watkins is a player that has really come on in recent practices. The offense needs all the help it can get and Watkins has explosive speed. It would be great if he could become a key role player for the offense. One of the big things we hear about is how much better his route-running is this year. Great sign.

This is pretty funny.

This is good news.
Roster Move: Eagles have activated LB Alex Singleton from the Reserve/COVID-19 list. pic.twitter.com/VpVOvYeUHZ

The Eagles have been light at LB so getting back Singleton is good from a numbers standpoint, but also because he’s likely to be starting this year.
Excited to see what he does this season.
