Practice Squad and Roster Tweaks
Posted: August 30th, 2024 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | Comments Off on Practice Squad and Roster TweaksThe Eagles announced the initial roster on Tuesday and they’ve been busy since then. They signed players to the practice squad and then made some roster tweaks.
Here we go.
We’ve promoted LB Oren Burks to the active roster, signed T/G Brett Toth to the practice squad, and placed DB James Bradberry on Injured Reserve. pic.twitter.com/bx4GVj9NPD

Bradberry got hurt in practice, a 6-8 week injury. Whether the Eagles plan was to keep him as trade bait or to have him as a role player, the plan didn’t work.
The Eagles didn’t replace him with a DB, but rather a LB. That surprised me a bit. LB was a deep spot already. This feels like a STs move more than anything. Burks is a veteran player and good STer. With the new KO rules, Michael Clay may want to use veterans over rookies early on.
We’ve claimed DT Byron Young and released DT Marlon Tuipulotu. pic.twitter.com/LcxlaUY00Y

Young is 6-3, 294. He played in 6 games last year and had 4 tackles. He plays with the kind of strength and physicality that Vic Fangio wants in his guys up front.
Byron Young (93) was waived by the Raiders. Only played six regular-season games for LV but you see some upside here against veteran Chris Hubbard.
Great initial power with the right arm, followed by a swim with the left. Shows nice flexibility and a high motor to finish. pic.twitter.com/RxfU90Ha4f

Byron Young defeats the double team by spiking the knee. @ByronYoung19 holds his ground, then uses his strength/leverage to recover & drive his blocker into the RB! #StopTheRun #Raiders #RaiderNation pic.twitter.com/pwRNPIfYwg

Marlon Tuipulotu was a solid backup the last couple of years, but Fangio didn’t seem too sold on him. When asked about a backup NT recently, Fangio didn’t mention Tui. And that’s the position Tui had the last couple of years. The Eagles liked him enough to keep him around initially, but felt Young was an upgrade. One other advantage for Young is that he’ll be under team control for 3 years at a cheap salary.

Now let’s talk about the PS.
QB Will Grier
RB Tyrion Davis-Price
WR Parris Campbell
WR Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
TE EJ Jenkins
TE Jack Stoll
OL Nick Gates
OL Brett Toth
OL Dylan McMahon
OL Lakein Vakalahi (INTL)
DT Gabe Hall
LB Brandon Smith
S Andre Sam
S Caden Sterns
There are still 3 open spots to fill.
#Eagles hosted Danny Gray for a visit

Gray is a WR who played for the Niners.
The Eagles could add CB and or DL to the PS to give the practice help.
Toth and Gates can serve as the backup center for the first part of the year with gameday elevations. At some point the team will probably need to add someone to the roster. McMahon will have time to develop and could potentially take that role if they think he’s ready down the road.
