Health Check
Posted: January 11th, 2025 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 2 Comments »The Eagles host the Packers on Sunday afternoon. Both teams had really good regular seasons so this isn’t your standard matchup on wild card weekend. That should make for a good game.
The biggest news in Philly relates to health. Jalen Hurts is out of concussion protocol and back at practice. His teammates were impressed by him.
“He was really sharp today.”

There wasn’t any real doubt that Hurts would play, but it is good to have him officially back and all the BS games over with. Now the focus turns to the receivers. AJ Brown missed Thursday with a knee issue. The Eagles say it was a rest day to help Brown with an injured knee. Brown was back at practice on Friday. Still, he’s a critical player for the Eagles and they can’t afford to have him miss time in the postseason.
The #Eagles are 11-0 this year and 38-6 (including playoffs) overall when Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown both start and finish the game. https://t.co/SktvWiPIyg

DeVonta Smith missed Friday’s practice with a back issue. He is expected to play, but again, you don’t want him missing any time. Hopefully Smith and Brown won’t have any issues in the game.
The rest of the team is healthy. The Eagles are in good shape heading into the playoffs. This team is just world’s different than last season.
The starting skill players against the Bucs were:
QB Jalen Hurts
RB D’Andre Swift
TE Dallas Goedert
TE Jack Stoll
WR DeVonta Smith
WR Julio Jones
Not ideal. The starting LBs were Nick Morrow and Zach Cunningham. This year is a huge improvement. And Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean replacing James Bradberry and Avonte Maddox has made a tremendous difference.
We don’t know how things are going to play out, but the Eagles have to feel good right now. They are healthy. They are playing well. The team also feels hungry. You need a little bit of an edge in the postseason.
Lane Johnson is certainly going to be fired up.

Johnson is generally regarded as the best OT in football. Somehow he was voted 2nd team All Pro at RT, behind Penei Sewell of the Lions. Apparently Johnson wasn’t happy about that as you can tell by the page he posted in his locker.
I’m excited to see what this Eagles team does. This is a talented group that has the potential to win the Super Bowl. They could also lose on Sunday. Green Bay is a talented team that actually finished higher in the DVOA rankings (3rd) than the Eagles (5th). The road to the Super Bowl won’t be easy. The NFC is loaded.
If the Eagles are truly a great team, they’ll find a way to win the games. That’s what makes the playoffs special. Great teams do great things. They make history. Players become legends. Who ever thought Nick Foles would out-duel Tom Brady to win the Super Bowl? The Eagles have the players to go on a run of their own and make history. It will be fun to see if they can pull that off.

That should get you pretty fired up. Not only is this a good team, they are a fun team. It is easy to like Saquon and Zack Baun and all the fellas.
