LG Evan Mathis re-signed with the Eagles.  5-year deal.  Don’t know any details yet.  Great news.  Will update when we know more.

So the Mathis deal to re-sign with the #Eagles is 5 years, $31.25 max, $9 m first 2 years, $7 guaranteed, according to a source.

      Consider how little action he have seen, I suspect he will first be signed after the draft.

      Derek will start getting some action in the next couple of weeks, I suspect. DTs are starting to get signed.

        I would expect the LB shoe to drop before Landri happens.

        As far as the LBs, do you think at some point the pressure turns away from the needy teams and turns on to Lofton, Tulloch, Hawthorne, Fletcher at. al.?

        By Monday or so, does one of them feel the need to move first to get the deal he craves, or do they think the market is going to improve as teams spend up all their money?

        I would suspect once the first domino falls, all the LB start to sign fairly quickly. So it’s sort of incumbent on the first guy to get a good deal and set the bar for the rest. Likewise, the longer it drags out, the better it is for the Eagles, unless all 4-5 guys end up elsewhere.

    All the deals so far — D-Jax, T-Cole, T-Herr, and Mathis — seem to be basically 2-year deals (I think) for cap/roster purposes.

    Seems to squares with Paul Domo’s article about the Eagles’ (publicly stated) view that the 2014 cap is NOT going to see a huge increase over the current cap number.

    SAM would know best.

      I think its also smart in general, you never know if a player suddenly decline or get an injury bug.

    Great! Now I can enjoy my day.

    Took a quick look at the roster. I think with the signings of Mathis and Gibson, the guard position is set.

    Dallas Reynolds is listed as G/C. Other than him, there is only one other player listed at C….and he appears to be a camp body.

    At tackle, there is only Peters and Herramans and another camp body.

    Do you think we look to sign King now or address with a mid-round draft pick?

      Zane Taylor was a very talented player in college. Will he ever develop? Who knows but to simply call him a camp body is inaccurate. A camp body is some one year starter at NW Missouri State Central Tech.

        Actually, a starter at a small college often has a lot of upside.

        A camp body is someone like Dallas Reynolds, who simply lacks enough innate talent ever to be more than a scrub on a bad team. They’re often starters on big schools, because what gets them to camp is that they can play, what makes them camp bodies is they lack the athletic talent ever to play well.

          Perhaps I generalized too much due to the recent claims that we should have 80 pro guys in camp who are Pro Bowl locks or the FO is not doing their jobs properly. That being said I watched a couple of his (Taylors) games in college and was impressed. That’s all.

    Barring injuries and with a full offseason of workouts and strength and conditioning is there any reason to doubt the Iggles may just have the best O line in the NFL….dare to dream…….

      And a running back who sure as hell knows how to run behind that line. Hard to believe that an Andy Reid offense is likely going to lead the league in rushing next year.

      Very pessimistic view. I think we can agree that we had the talent, the talent really needed time to gel, and our d coordinator needed time to pick things up. The team seemed to get better at the end of the year. No reason to think that won’t continue. As sat as the lb’s I’m
      In agreement. I do sort of like our safeties though, but added competition wouldn’t be a bad thing.

        I like to see them go out and bring in good players to fill the holes we definitely have in the LB core and safety.

        Im jumping the gun a little. Maybe they will come through and bring in the players we need.

        But we made the mistake last year overlooking big holes thinking our team was one of the best and we crashed and burned. I would like us to make sound moves for our needs and be sober minded into this season (in other words we aint good till we ARE good)

        And I like to start winning super bowls before I die.

        mhrinda is very pessimistic in general.

        Continuity — sucks that that’s a buzzword now — is helpful in general for teams. And yes, it’s definitely fair to say the Eagles’ issues last year were mostly not lack of talent, but poor execution, lack of cohesion, etc. They did change their defensive and offensive line schemes in a short offseason, things they won’t have to contend with this time around.

        In other words, it’s more than a hope and wish that they can keep the same crew together and improve.

    Now resign D Landri to a small deal and draft an LB early or sign tulloch if u can get a decent deal on him. I am happy with what we did so far. Eagles always make smart deals. But there will always be complainers

    This signing was a nice addition to an already sweet St Patrick’s Day. I’ve been drinking Guinness since noon, watching the Leprechaun movies on SyFy, and making corned beef and cabbage. The best part is that I’m off again tomorrow, so I can pretend that I’m Nicolas Cage in “Leaving Las Vegas” tonight and not feel too bad about it. Welcome back, Evan Archibald Mathis, PHD.

    Tommy, do you think we’ll have any interest in Mike Tolbert? He is a great pass catcher and can probably do a lot of things that Leonard Weaver use to do.

      I would certainly like to go after Tolbert, but would he be interested in a backup role, particularly behind Shady in the Eagles offense? I just don’t see that as likely.
