What a piece of work.  Sal is “flabbergasted” that the Cardinals have any interest in Reid.

Check out this PFT story.  Classic Sal. The man has a gift for ripping Andy Reid and the Eagles. 

Sal’s “logic” is that the Cards gave the Eagles a major beatdown.  Why hire the guy who your team dominated?  Also, the Eagles were a handful of plays away from going 0-16.  Reid was really awful and the Cards are nuts to be interested in Big Red.

Sal fails to point out the Eagles were a couple of plays from starting the year 5-1.  If that happens, who knows how things go after the bye.  Castillo isn’t fired.  The defense doesn’t have the nightmare ATL-NO-DAL-WAS-CAR-DAL stretch.  I’m not saying we’d have shut those teams down, but if things had stayed intact…I bet the D would have played better.  I sure don’t think the team falls apart the way it did.

Anyway…you want Reid for his past success, not what he did in 2012.  There’s a Catch-22 in play.  If the Eagles had been good this year, Reid wouldn’t be on the market.  Arizona might be lucky that the team did struggle and he is available.

Finally, using Sal’s “logic”…the Rams made a mistake when they hired Jeff Fisher, who went 6-10 in his final year with the Titans, and the Broncos made a mistake when they hired John Fox, who went 2-14 in his final year with the Panthers.  Idiots.

I don’t know why Sal hates Reid, but it will be interesting to see how Sal covers the Eagles now that he’s gone.

    You know, in a weird way i respect his jerky-ness…EVERY other long time Eagles member who was starting to get left off of the leagues top 10 at the position or what have you, they are getting old, they just don’t have it anymore. They’re a liability. The MINUTE we let them go: HOW DARE THE EAGLES! DMac never had so many fanboys in the national media until he wasn’t wearing green. Next thing you know he’s popping up on top QB lists etc…same with Dawk (they were right). But before we let him go he was old and slow and a major liability.

    Sal is a major jack-ass for piling it on like this and he’s wrong, but I’m kind of grateful he isn’t going to pretend Reid is the greatest coach in the league now that he’s not wearing midnight green.

    So now It’s interesting to find out. Which beat writers hate the city, and which ones hated the coach who didn’t play their bs games.

      Yeah, that piece by Hayes was horrible. That guy has some nerve disrespecting Jerome Brown by calling the death of Garret Reid the worst thing to ever happen in Philly sports history.

    Sal just caters to the angriest Eagles fans, I’m not sure he even believes what he’s saying. Listening to him on WIP he’s perfect for it because the people that call in on that station are about as victimized as you can get.

    Sal is not one of those reporters that people should actually read or listen to. The way he used to cover the Eagles is that he would go to the Novacare complex and then come on ESPN and paraphrase whatever was on the Eagles website that day. The funny thing was that his tone was as if he was broadcasting a big scoop, when in fact he had nothing. Henceforth, nobody should consider anything Sal does as worth comment or note. And as a pat on the back for myself please note that I have been saying this for years.

      I’m wondering what the timeline is on a coach hiring….are agents wheeling and dealing, with a prolonged stand-off where none of the teams get a coach? Then one hire happens, contract details get out, and then like the music went out in a game of musical chairs all the teams snatch up a coach.

      Maybe all after the superbowl when the off-season officially begins? Maybe coaches will get hired as they finish out their separate seasons and become available?

      The excitement/terror of it all is too much to be prolonged. It’t like a blind date that a friend is setting up….or rather an arranged marriage that our corporate overlords are setting up…hope they pick a hawtie!

        I happen to believe that the Eagles won’t wait after the Super Bowl to make a hire.
        It took Lurie two weeks after the regular season 1998 has ended to hire Andy Reid. I’m assuming a similar timeline this time around!

    Question: Is there a HC candidate that would amplify the possibility of the Eagles acquiring Lovie Smith to be our DC?

      There are just so many coaching vacancies. There are jobs out there and at this point in their careers, I can’t imagine either Reid or Lovie taking coordinator positions when other HC positions are offered.

    Teams that have success with balanced and run-based offenses have QBs that can be relied upon to make the right throw and read on critical plays. Offenses with a Roethelsberger, Manning, Ryan or a Schaub can get manage to get 3-8 yards from the running game on 2 plays and have confidence that their QB will deliver the right play at least 67% of the time when they drop back to pass.

    Run-based offenses with a QB like Sanchez will fail because the inconsistency of their QB will lead to a lot of 3-outs.

    Did Andy’s lack of confidence with players like McNabb and Vick lead to his pass heavy offenses? If he can’t rely on those players to make the right read on limited snaps, would his philosophy be to increase the number of passing plays to account for that unreliability? If McNabb and Vick dropped back to pass once on every set of downs and made the right throw 50% of the time, they’ll only manage to move the chains 50% of the time. If they drop back to pass 2 or 3 times on every set of downs, they have more chances to move the chains since passing plays generate more yardage than running plays.

    It is a crappy article by Sal Pal, but in some respects i’m afraid I have to agree with him. Whilst it’s hypothetical, to win three games by four points like we did early on must count as lucky in some regard, and the team has been trending downwards for years now. I don’t know how many of you guys are soccer fans, but I’m from England and I tend to compare Reid to Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager. Both had a lot of success early on with inherited players, then their star gradually faded. Arsenal haven’t won a trophy since 2005 despite being one of the biggest clubs in the country, and obviously the Eagles have rarely challenged for a SB since the 2004 run. The only real difference is that Wenger actually won the Premier League three times with Arsenal, which I guess is why he’s still in a job and Reid isn’t.

      Just to confirm, are you saying Reid struggled without players from the Ray Rhodes era? That Ray Rhodes is responsible for all those NFC championship games? Examine that thought for a minute.

        Not entirely, but he did inherit Dawkins, Vincent, Taylor, Douglas etc. on the defensive side. Although he replaced some of these names adequately he clearly failed to replace Dawkins. Of course Reid deserves credit for the likes of McNabb and Westbrook, to name two, but he did step into a job with a lot of exceptional players on defense especially.

    I don’t understand how out of the 4 wins we had, how was the Ravens win not legit. We moved the ball up and down the field and ended the game by taking a knee. Also, Ray Horton can be Reid’s JJ.There’s no super star RB there. So you won’t have worry about being criticized for not using Beanie Wells, and it’s one of the few cities that will jump for joy when the next 3 first round picks are O linemen. Not to mention having his guy in Kolb and possibly McNabb behind center. I honestly think this is a better landing spot than SD would have been.
