Good read by Casey Matthews on the screen pass. Kept that play from developing.

I love the fact we’re already seeing the DL rotation.

  2. 2 Sean said at 7:44 PM on August 11th, 2011:

I guess we won’t be seeing a lot of kick returns this year.

  3. 3 Tommy Lawlor said at 7:48 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Ryan Harris has been beaten with 2 straight inside moves. Can’t have that.

  4. 4 Tommy Lawlor said at 7:50 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Great catch by Riley Cooper. That’s exactly the kind of stuff I wanted to see from him.

  5. 5 ian no. 2 said at 7:54 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    Celek we’re still droppin’ em.

Ravens O is hitting the few Eagles weaknesses.. safety and screens..

    great run D! Landri..

Ed Reed Wants to Hold Riley’s Hand..

    Like the Schmitt 1st down..

  6. 6 Tommy Lawlor said at 7:55 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Great effort by Jason Avant, but I’m not sure he got his left foot in.

  7. 7 Tommy Lawlor said at 7:57 PM on August 11th, 2011:

TD pass to Celek. Great throw.

  8. 8 Nathan said at 7:57 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Great drive from the 1st team. Vick looks good. Time for him and Shady to sit.

A little shaky start from the right side of the o-line, but that’s ok. The Ravens aren’t slouches on D by any means so it is good for Watkins and Harris to get reps against good teams. They will get better.

And I think it might go without saying, but it feels good to be watching Eagles football again.

  9. 9 Cliff said at 7:58 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Jamal Jackson has looked good. To my eyes, at least.

  10. 10 BC said at 8:02 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Looks like just about every team is going to be starting from the 20 after kickoffs this year. Not liking the 35 yard kickoff, that’s so 80’s.

  11. 11 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:04 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Good coverage on that 3rd down. DBs did good work and Casey hugged up tight on the RB so Flacco had no where to throw it.

  12. 12 Finneagle said at 8:06 PM on August 11th, 2011:

This play-by-play guy is just awful.

I like what the d-line is doing. Looked like that Asante and Nmandi played only one series.

  13. 13 Iowa Eagle said at 8:06 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Tommy, I think I speak for everyone when I say THANK YOU for taking your time to give a live analysis while trying to watch this game… Much appreciated!

  14. 14 Cliff said at 8:09 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Don’t know if I’m OK with Ronnie Brown wearing #36…

  15. 15 BC said at 8:10 PM on August 11th, 2011:

It’s hard to not use up numbers for a football team though.

    Finneagle: 94.1 FM

  17. 17 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:11 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Kelce is doing okay so far. Austin Howard had an excellent down block on run play to his side. Really caved in a DL.

I like this Ronnie Brown guy, but it is weird to see him as #36.

  18. 18 DB said at 8:13 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    Love that Indy draw play

  19. 19 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:13 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Howard lets Kruger get by him to the inside. Bad sack.

  20. 20 BC said at 8:17 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Our 2nd team would probably be a double digit favorite over the redskins 1st team.

  21. 21 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:18 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Vince Young struggled mightily at Lehigh, but you can see how games are a whole other story.

  22. 22 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:19 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Ronnie Brown is getting more carries tonight than he might get in the month of September.

  23. 23 Finneagle said at 8:20 PM on August 11th, 2011:

What is this offence? Some gimmick from college ? Is this legal?

  24. 24 DB said at 8:21 PM on August 11th, 2011:

What are these plays where the QB hands the ball to the RB? Must be some new innovative stuff by Reid and MM.

  25. 25 Zack said at 8:22 PM on August 11th, 2011:

May not have been the best QB play – but that was a great effort by Vince – with a good pass to Hall.

  26. 26 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:22 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Actually glad the drive got stopped. We need to see Alex Henery in action.

Draws it just inside from 35. Icebreaker.

  27. 27 Cliff said at 8:23 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Andy Reid has the biggest jones for Chad Hall. Looks like we’re keeping 7 WR’s on the roster.

    DeSean Jackson
    Jeremy Maclin
    Jason Avant
    Riley Cooper
    Steve Smith
    Chad Hall
    Johnnie Lee Higgins (KR/PR)

  28. 28 BC said at 8:23 PM on August 11th, 2011:

It’s called the 2nd team offense from the 1st preseason game that you won’t be seeing in the regular season..lol

  29. 29 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:25 PM on August 11th, 2011:

J Jarrett with tackle on KOR.

  30. 30 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:26 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Chad Hall could be on the P Squad this year. I’d have no problem with that.

  31. 31 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:27 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    D Tapp sack.

    He’s playing well.

  32. 32 PK said at 8:28 PM on August 11th, 2011:

I think someone would pick Hall up if we try getting him in our P squad…

  33. 33 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:28 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    J Jarrett with an INT

  34. 34 BC said at 8:30 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Hugh Douglas didn’t think that was intentional grounding? Wonder what he’s watching.

Great punt lousy job covering the ball.

  37. 37 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:32 PM on August 11th, 2011:

  38. 38 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:34 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Good run stop by G Lloyd.

  39. 39 JJCAKE said at 8:35 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Thanks for the posts everyone. I can’t get to a sports bar so have to follow online. Sd Seattle game is only one on my cable tv.

  40. 40 Cliff said at 8:38 PM on August 11th, 2011:

You think Chad Hall could stay on the PS, though? He’s proven his size isn’t a huge obstacle in the NFL. I could see a team signing him away.

  41. 41 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:38 PM on August 11th, 2011:

LB Keenan Clayton is flying to the ball tonight. Good start.

  42. 42 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:40 PM on August 11th, 2011:

I am very impressed with the defense. Jim Washburn has had a tremendous impact on the unit. We’re playing on the other side of the LOS on a regular basis. Love seeing that.

  43. 43 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:42 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    Kafka is in now.

  44. 44 DB said at 8:43 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Rookies doing well. Watkins, Lewis, Matthews, Jarrett

  45. 45 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:43 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Dion Lewis is off to an impressive start. Doesn’t go down on first contact. Huge quality for small guy.

  46. 46 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:46 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Another good run by Lewis. Runs hard. Strong. Good vision.

  47. 47 Eagles Fan in San Fran said at 8:47 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Are we ready for some football in Philly or what gentleman – there was some 800+ comments on BGN – and that was just mid-first-quarter of the first pre-season game.
A year (the year?) to remember!

  48. 48 Sean said at 8:48 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Kafka with a pick. Dion Lewis had a nice blitz pick up though.

  49. 49 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:50 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    Another Tapp sack.

  50. 50 Tommy Lawlor said at 8:57 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Really impressive 1st half. The D was every bit as good as I hoped. The offense was sharp with Vick.

    No major injuries so far.

    Very good start.

  51. 51 nicolajNN said at 8:59 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Seeing our D-line play is exciting, they spend a lot of time on the other side of the LOS. Less worried about stopping the run

  52. 52 ian no. 2 said at 9:01 PM on August 11th, 2011:

I’m not sold on Kafka as anything but a backup due to that arm..

Dion Lewis’s 2nd effort is fun, fun, fun til the safety bats the football away.. I hope Shady teaches him to leave that to college days..

  53. 53 PK said at 9:01 PM on August 11th, 2011:

I’d say our aggressive D-line is having a ball, but remains to be seen how they fare once the O actually gameplans against our system…

  54. 54 ian no. 2 said at 9:02 PM on August 11th, 2011:

2nd string offensive line will get a lot of ‘coaching up’ after this game

  55. 55 ian no. 2 said at 9:03 PM on August 11th, 2011:

In case your wondering Morton is working late and asked me to fill in for him..

  56. 56 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:05 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    @ ian…

Best line of the night (RE: Morton).

Kafka wasn’t impressive. That’s why Eagles never counted on him to be the backup. I do want to see how he looks as he gets some more PT.

  57. 57 Sokhar said at 9:10 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Can’t see the game here, so question for those who can: what’s up with the rushing stats? Ronnie is just above 2 ypc, Dion a little above 3, Schmitty had 2, and LeSean went backwards on his one carry? Baltimore just playing stout, or is our run blocking continuing to suck?

  58. 58 Arby said at 9:11 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    Nothing to add but:
    1. Just found your site while mourning Igglesblog…wonderful stuff.
    2. These Eagles TV announcers are intolerable. 94.1 on the phone is a lifesaver.

  61. 61 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:17 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    @ Arby…

    That is hilarious.

  62. 62 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:18 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Kafka much better in the 2nd half.

  63. 63 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:19 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Hugh is awful. Tollefson isn’t much better. Ugh.

  64. 64 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:20 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Kelce just got beat, forced bad throw by Kafka.

  65. 65 Iowa Eagle said at 9:21 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Sir Tom, your thoughts on Vandervelde and Kelce?

  66. 66 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:22 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Mike McGlynn badly beaten. Led to FF, FR for TD. Play will be reviewed and likely overturned.

  67. 67 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:23 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    RE: Vandy and Kelce

Haven’t focused on Vandervelde enough yet.

Kelce looks pretty good, but has had some rookie moments. I’m looking forward to studying the 2nd Qtr to see him vs big DT/NT.

  68. 68 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:24 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    FG time.

  69. 69 Iowa Eagle said at 9:25 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Thanks Tommy, I know the annoucers had a little spiel on Vandervelde for a nice block he had on a screen play, but haven’t watched him much myself.

  70. 70 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:25 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    Henery good from 24.

Tommy – turn off the volume and tune in to Merrill Reese through the Eagle website.

  72. 72 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:27 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    @ Sokhar…

Run game has been good at times. Shady ran near GL and got stuffed.

Brown looked good on his carries. Don’t know why average is so low. Maybe a TFL.

    Dion Lewis looked good.

  73. 73 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:28 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Missed tkl by Marsh on WR screen. Tentative, sloppy.

Is there a way to sync up the radio with the tv? Even if it is something I have to do manually. The tv feed I am watching is about a play or two behind merril.

  77. 77 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:35 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    RZ INT by J. Page.

Pressure by Hunt led to the pick.

  78. 78 Saltzie said at 9:36 PM on August 11th, 2011:

@iskar36 I’m listening to FM radio (not website), it’s pretty darn close.

  79. 79 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:36 PM on August 11th, 2011:

3rd string D does need to play better run defense.

Sorta cool seeing a RZ stop. Forgot what those looked like.

  80. 80 iskar36 said at 9:37 PM on August 11th, 2011:

I realize it’s preseason with the third strings in at this point, but loooooove seeing a redzone stop.

  81. 81 DB said at 9:38 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Nice mobile play by Kafka. Maybe we can trade him to Miami for a 2nd.

  82. 82 Iowa Eagle said at 9:38 PM on August 11th, 2011:

  87. 87 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:51 PM on August 11th, 2011:

  90. 90 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:56 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    Is Sinorice hurt?

  93. 93 DB said at 9:58 PM on August 11th, 2011:

Probably was roughing the passer on Hunt, though

  94. 94 Tommy Lawlor said at 10:02 PM on August 11th, 2011:

We already had one roughing the passer penalty. We’ve come close a couple other times. Our aggressive nature will lead to some penalties, but I can live with that as long as they don’t get out of hand.

  95. 95 Tommy Lawlor said at 10:04 PM on August 11th, 2011:

King Dunlap injured. Can’t tell anything. He is in pain. Maybe an ankle.

  97. 97 Cliff said at 10:05 PM on August 11th, 2011:

NFL Network (well, maybe just Eisen) is all over Tebow’s jock. Maybe it’s because he hasn’t been able to watch all of the DEN-DAL game, but there is NO reason to hype Tebow like that tonight.

  100. 100 Iowa Eagle said at 10:09 PM on August 11th, 2011:

I thought for sure when we put Cole in the wide 9 his run stuffing skills would deminish, and maybe I’m being biased but he has to be the best DE in the NFL when it comes to pass rushing AND run stuffing.

    Tommy:
Your thoughts on VY and Kafka… I thought Kafka looked good after that INT. Does he have trouble with the deep ball or was it because he wasn’t set well? As far as VY, I thought he looked pretty darn good for not knowing the system well. Kafka out played him on the timing quick stuff, but Young still shows he’s got that “flash”

  114. 114 Bill said at 10:29 PM on August 11th, 2011:

    Tommy,

  121. 121 Flyin' said at 10:48 PM on August 11th, 2011:

I didn’t watch the game too closely after the 1st half, had company stop by. However, what I saw was better than expected. I thought the play in the first half was closer to a regular season game than a scrimmage as some advertised it.

Can’t wait to get the game review after Tommy’s all nighter.

  122. 122 Shawn said at 10:54 PM on August 11th, 2011:

If you don’t have a RS, would the oppenent kick it to the 2 instead?

That would be good for us. I trust Chad Hall or whoever we’d put back there to be able to consistently bring the ball past he 20, where it would otherwise be.

I just have vivid nightmares of not having a quality RS…

What happened to touchbacks coming out to the 25 or did I dream that? I thought is was part and parcel of moving the kickoffs out to the 35.

To get a KO to the two you’d have to land the ball at the 12 at the least. Even Reno could move that far beyond the 20. Teams are just going to kick it out of the end zone.
