NYJ 10, PHI 5 – 2nd Half
Posted: August 29th, 2013 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 133 Comments »Ugh. I knew this game would feature some sloppy play. There are 90 percent backups on the field. The team only had a couple of days to practice since they played on Saturday. Not a formula for great football.
But I didn’t expect this.
The Eagles offense has been awful. Blocking has been an issue. The OTs, Tobin and Bamiro, are struggling. LG Allen Barbre hasn’t played nearly as well as when he was at LT. Nick Foles has really struggled. He hasn’t had much help, but the QB’s job is to make the guys around him better. That hasn’t happened tonight. There have been drops by Ertz, Salas and maybe another player or two.
The defense has done some good things (lots of sacks, 2 takeaways), but has also been sloppy on the back end. The Eagles don’t have good depth in the secondary.
Bennie Logan, Emmanuel Acho and Chris McCoy all played very well. Everette Brown made some plays, but I need to re-watch them to see if that was him or offensive breakdowns.
Who is winning the Safety battle between Wolff and Allen? Kurt Coleman. I kid. Kurt did come up and take a player out with a good hit. Nate and Earl each had some moments, but neither guy flashed so much you say “That’s our starter!”
TE James Casey did leave with a hamstring injury.

Looked like Poyer played well, but tough to know about a CB on TV
Time to see Kelly adjust at half time.
If you’re struggling to match a name to a number go here: http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/team/roster.html?sort_by=2 and click on the # heading
Who whiffed on that PC hit?
Harbor
Thanks
Cause we don’t havea enough CBs banged up right now.
yea… though i never really imagined lindley would make the team. with all of the injuries, it was nice to have some guy who had been around for a while…even if he didn’t have much in-game experience. if he’s hurt, i don’t think he has much of a chance of staying on the roster.
we have better injured CBs than him : P
There goes another CB
Not good.
Wasn’t that a Sinatra song? “Oops there goes another cornerback”
Tom you should change Kurt Coleman in your joke and replace it with JJ 🙂
Lets trade for Byrd and then pick up every CB released by the Jet, Zona and Hawks
Kurt Coleman the cb? Still better then the starters from last year. I am surprised your not more impressed by Brown, I have gone back with my Dvr and remain impressed, he deserves to be on this roster. Took him time to adjust to the 3-4 but at this point looks better then Graham in coverage and just as good rushing the passer.
MCCoy playing well makes it tricky for brown
agreed, not sure both of them can make the team. either one PS eligible?
Pretty sure both are
Ugh.
F, I jinxed Poyer….sorry
what in the hell just happened there??? casey matthews and jordan poyer collide with their arms around the guy? and then colt anderson flies in out of nowhere right past him. and he then outruns everyone else… sigh.
We should stop the D watching 3 Stooges films pre-game.
Long just blew up that play… until he couldn’t tackle.
I need to apologize for all the times I cursed my Madden saying that could never happen in a real game.
hahaha i cannot upvote this enough.
I see why he’s wearing 48. The other LBs wouldn’t let him get a number in the 50s
So that just happened
After tonight, Casey Matthews gonna have a whole lot more time to sit
around the dinner table talking football with the Matthews family
Just wanted to point out that these are the back-up back-ups on the JETS OFFENSE. Sad.
We are also down to the 3rd/4th string guys
I know. But even the 5th stringers on any defense should know how to tackle.
Did you see the Eagles 1st stringer last year?
My point.
Um…how did the ref not see the Jet defender offsides there? He freaking stood up in the neutral zone.
Refs have their 3rd stringers in too?
clay harbor drops a pass : (
i missed the first half, from the little i’ve read, he didn’t have a good game so far… is that right?
honestly…he has been horrible
None of the WRs are having a good game
sigh… now momah takes one off his hands.
he had a decent catch in first half(Momah)..but nothing special
I missed that.
Nomah
isnt that the guy from the red sox?
That made me laugh.
Nice
Any chance Maehl beats out Sheppard if we keep a 6th WR?
just thinking how I like Maehl but I think we like Shep
I don’t know. We heard a lot about him in practice, but I haven’t seen much from him in games.
in fairness he has shown up on ST, and that’s what keeps you here to be developed as a wr
he’s getting a lot of looks in this game. could be a good sign for him
I think it is telling that Sheppard was with the 2nd team and Salas and Maehl are with the 3rd stringer, but Sheppard is not out there (might also just been because of the tempo)
I figured that’s because Maehl hasn’t had much time with the team and needs the reps. I wasn’t at every practice. So I trust the coaching staff to make the right call. I just like what I’ve seen from Maehl in this game and the one practice I attended.
keep in mind chip will do right by him and make sure he gets a chance to put plays on Film if we dont plan on keeping him
Great block by Salas
Clay had a nice one too
I so wanted to see big ole 72 run to that pile and help push the pile for a first. Instead he just stands there with his hands on his hips
bwahahaha i had to go back and watch it and you are right. he actually spins in a circle before falling down. lol
I like Tucker
Dang, would’ve liked to see Momah try and work for that one if Barkley had thrown it earlier.
Running the TD followed by running the 2 pt conversion. Chip is so innovative. Who knew you could run the ball with the RB near the goal line. Offensive genius at work people.
#gimmickoffense
I guess we will see a lot of 2 pt conversions this year
It is fun to see so many running plays in those situations.
I’m smiling just knowing that 3rd & 2 isn’t an automatic passing down.
Marty threw it on 4th and 1…hahaha He got the first down, but Im so sick of that crap that I dont even want to get first downs like that
3rd and 2, Marty throws. Only succeeds because of terrible LB coverage
AHAHAHHAHA oh god. its so bittersweet
Baldii said curry mite be cut lol
And Jamar Chaney was a lock!
DID HE REALLY!?!
Idiot listed Curry with Poyer as guys “who will make the cuts hard for the coaches”….what a friggin Idiot. Im embaressed for him sometime
I feel like I’m seeing a lot of runners lowering their helmet, and not getting called for it. Am I missing something? Thought this was a new rule.
The fuss over that rule was overblown. The people who were shown what actually would count as a penalty said that there was less than a handful of runs that would have been penalized last season.
So who’s our other starting safety?
Sims and Wolff or Anderson
I meant, who do we think will be starting opposite Chung?
Allen in short leash
Vinny Curry is a bad man.
Curry is a Monster!!!!
I hate agreeing with Baldi, but there was some good tackling on that drive.
Too bad they came after the first down marker much too often.
Very true, but if we can count on these guys to make sound tackles if they are pressed into action, we are already leaps and bounds above last year.
preach
OR, if they can make good tackles off the sideline! #12thman
was that a 20 play drive
Now the Jets and Giants are doing the stupid Yankee whistle…. I hate New York.
What is that? What’s the point?
Well I’m not sure what the point is but they started it in the playoffs last year against the Os. It seems like the jets staff does not get how to use it right. They would play it when someone struck out or comitted an error.. etc. I remember Gary Thorne brought it up once. Don’t remember what it might of been for other than to cause me great affliction.
Bamiro is gonna get Barkley killed
Air Maehl…lol Get it?
Avant woulda made that catch
Most likely, but it was underthrown, should have had more air under it
Ifaeny would have caught it for sure (no, not really) we’d be all like, Whoamah!!!
i LOL’ed
It was much easier to tell who was at fault when the players used to point at each other.
they held the shit out of out passrushers on that 1st down QB run
They have held the shit out of the Eagles pass rushers this half
This officiating crew is as terrible as Mark Sanchez’s head band.
such an idiot that dude is…any woman that sleeps with that Baffoon should be stoned
To be fair, that one guy held two different Eagles. That has to be tough.
These are the 4th string refs too. Cut them some slack.
Wow Colt Anderson
Is there some way to take Colt Anderson’s brain and put it in Nate Allen’s body?
If so, Lavoy allen would be in a Wheel Chair and Andrew Bynum would be dropping 25pts 15rbs in a sixers jersey
Can we just clone Dawkins and keep him for ever young?
Dawkins even manages to get me Jacked up during a AAA comercial
Great idea, Corry.
While he’s under the knife, why not add Kurt Coleman’s heart too.
Could we bring back Phillips and just give him Allen’s knees?
Why are we dicking around? Just give him Dawkins’ everything.
Come on 124. You can’t clone greatness. The best we can hope for is some Franken Safety built from all the parts of failed safeties over the last half decade
Mo Momah Mo Problems!!! says the CBs
Whoamah!
MOOOOMAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
Tucker has some scat to him
If Barkley leads us on a game winning drive – can we reopen the QB debate?
not after that pass
haha – nice, definitive answer there! (I was joking, just in case it wasn’t clear)…
I know. I just couldn’t pass that up. Perfect timing and all.
Barkley’s arm is too strong.
Momah looks at Sheppard and says “I bet you wish you were 6’8″”
SHepard looks back and says “Bet you wish you had a roster spot” 🙂
Momah: “So do you” (winks at Maehl) “We all know I have a guaranteed PS spot.”
Antonio Dixon and Casey Matthews with a good stop of Everette Brown there.
Ancho better make this team! Been blitzing, hitting, tackling! If Casey makes it and Ancho doesnt I will be pissed
Anchovy?
LETS GO BOYS!!! I wanna win this game!
…
Edit: F ME!!!
I don’t understand you mean db’s are allowed to hold onto the ball when its thrown to them
Don’t worry. They will ban that soon enough, as soon as Tom Brady says the DB hurt his feelings
Well, the Chip offense is known for putting points on the board quickly. Taking equal opportunity scoring to an extreme though imo.
Barkley: “I’m still in this competition. This is a minor set back”
That could easily be a real quote.
I know haha, and there will still be talking heads that praise him for keeping his head up. What great intangibles.
Don’t have good depth in the secondary? Now that’s funny considering the starters at safety….
