2nd Half – PHI 17 , PIT 0
Posted: August 21st, 2014 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 161 Comments »This is the Eagles team we’ve been waiting for. Productive offense, solid defense.
The Steelers look like a mess. Preseason road games tend to bring out the worst in teams (just see the previous 2 weeks).
Lots of interesting stuff to discuss after the game. Fingers crossed on staying healthy.
_
The opening kick off there was #7. Is that the new guy?
Yip whats his face Parkey?
Smith II with a play!!
Marcus Smith!
I still don’t think Foles was that great. Somewhat erratic. But a much better team effort overall.
He missed on a couple throws he probably usually makes, but also made some really good throws. I’m not too concerned, he looks pretty much back to 2013 form after that dreadful opener.
The wrs dropped some catches too
Said the same, yet we still scored 17 points
I will be shocked if Bair is cut this year.
That Curry guy is kind of OK too.
There’s that #75 again.
Steeler’s O-line is bad-bad
… or, our defense is good good!
Our back-ups even!
Wow, Tucker some wheels I hadn’t seen yet there.
Tucker running mad. Like someone didn’t share their weed.
That was a monster hole Tucker had to run through.
That’s what she said? Sorry, live in NEPA, the office is “in” my town
I will say Tucker knows how to finish a run. I like seeing him running over defensive backs.
The steelers aren’t very good… They look fairly vanilla, but the lack of talent is glaring.
looking tired and flat
We’re mauling them. I’d never really considered the pre-season road game angle Tommy mentioned but I figured the Steelers would put up more of a fight than they did.
They’re too stoned to put up a fight.
lets just go for the preseason point record
Of all the positives this pre-season so far, the one I’m most happy about is the apparent depth on the O-line. Barbre still worries me a bit, but that 2nd string OL just plowed the Steelers down the field for 7 points.
yea, seems we have good depth at OL now.
Call them the Pittsburgh Stoners !
Ooooh love that – obvious and corny. Texting my Stoners friend now.
oof line drive
Do the Steelers understand the rules of football?
Do the refs?
Yes, but they’re blind.
Travis Long is out there as an ILB.
Marcus Smith running with the receiver. Just needs to get his head around.
OLB on a WR, you just turn on the burners and hope you can catch for the tackle
Seemed to cover better than Carmichael
Everyone covers better than Carmichael. Except Marsh.
I was actually pretty happy with that play– just as he goes to break back with Brown, he gets caught a bit flat footed, otherwise I think the pass goes incomplete. Showed awesome speed there
Boy, Coleman is going to get cut if he keeps playing like that.
Good job steelers, give ’em a gold star
Was a nice hold on who ever was about to sack Big Ben
saw that, but seriously, refs just feel bad now.
yea, but its not going to get called in regular season in a tight game either.
did they end the extra ref in the backfield change like they did with the long PAT’s?
He is still there
yeah, compared to last week, this crew is way loose on the stuff going on in the trenches
That was Travis Long playing inside.
Was a very good blitz.
So when are refs going to throw offensive holding more consistent?
Wow.
If Sanchez was a reliable decision maker, he’d be a starter because of throws to Burton…
So their starters vs. Our backups and we are still driving?
Pretty much. Steelers are a hot mess.
With ease.
And A’s, and G’s, and L’s, and S’s!
These are our 2’s vs. their 1s.
These guys are playing well enough that I’m kind of excited to see the 4th preseason game.
So awesome being more physical than the steelers again
I never saw sanchez play this well!
He’s playing like a man who just doesn’t care. He’s like eff it, I survived the Jets, I can handle anything.
Anyone feeling a lot more confident heading into the regular season now? I know I am.
Oh please
FIPP, stare the hell out of somebody
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/media/photo/2012-02/286005840-13215532.jpg
NO DON’T UNLEASH HIM ON US! AAHHHHHH!
You can almost feel him eating your soul.
I think he absorbs it right through the eyes, actually.
We counted (wife and I)– when they showed that close up of FIPP, after the kickoff was called back. HE BLINKED 2 TIMES IN 60 SECONDS
Curtis Marsh in the game, expect the scoring to commence.
Please Chip, put Mr. Marsh out of his misery and cut him before the next pre-season game.
Has Momah played yet?
yeah. I think he had drew a holding call on his defender.
Yeah, but are you sure he was on the field? I think receivers can get illegal contact calls from the bench.
If we get the philly and nj dot com media members to put out stories that Marsh was released because of gang ties and a rap album, enraging the fan base, do you think Washington would sign him?
I hope so.
Why wouldn’t they?
No, he’d have to be one of the best CB’s we’ve ever had first and that seems a ways away.
Anyway we can get him some extra tattoos/
Steelers did nothing with their good field position. The Fipp Stare worked.
Wolffe almost had the pick
Think this is my first view of Barkley.
Pit is just awful now.
Maybe we are good??
We’re not being stretched.
I like this Henry Josey.
Huh, Tucker didn’t run any that far, and he was wearing two shoes!
Nice cut.
Too many good RB’s.
Excellent problem for a running team. I love that we’re a running team now…
this sweep is killing ’em
Barkley on point. Everyone looks good tonight.
We are going to score three td’s on this drive.
Terrible throw by Barkley.
I jinxed him, its my fault.
Ah, so you did. Go sit in the penalty box and feel shame.
Ok. *shuffles*
not to mention a horrible hold
How long do you need to discuss the completion of the int when there are two fouls on the defense?
We might have refused them…
Why do we need to bleed clock in a preseason gAme?
The rain of flags continue. Next time on Eagles pre-season football, what’s yellow and on the ground?
OK. There is our biggest negative of the game.
Ahhh lol Henery misses the gimme. I love our kicking situation. Not.
so bad
Josey looks pretty good on blitz pickup.
See the look on Henery’s face as he walked off the field and his head was hanging? Look of a guy who knows he is in serious trouble.
And can we cut Henery now? We’ll just go for it on 4th down all the time and always go for 2. It works in Madden.
Enough bad football for me.
Don’t leave now, Henery might miss another field goal!
bad showing for Kaddu
There we go, just announce when a play doesn’t have defensive holding. Smart.
Ugh. Refs tonight have been brutal again. Gave my tickets away to this game and I refuse to waste my time and money (parking, beer) on watching a terrible product.
As I said, Kaddu
I heard Marsh has been working with him after practices.
Sort of disappointed we aren’t getting to see more Watkins on the outside. Outside depth chart: Williams-Fletcher-Roc- Marsh wait a minute guys, shouldn’t Watkins and Carrol be 2nd string?
Carrol was on earlier. Didn’t he have the pick? Was he in the slot?
yep
*Dudu.
Kinne getting some good tape together, lol.
Lol
Learned something about Kinne from the Steelers announces, LOL
What was it?
crazy story, his dad was a coach, disgruntled dad shot him in the chest because he wasn’t playing his kid, Kinne missed some football in protective custody.
Edit: Oh, dad survived, Kinne went on to have a nice highschool career
Parent of the year material.
At this rate, make a ‘Penalty’ BINGO card for Week 1 and see how many spaces get filled.
We need to keep Curtis Marsh so he can be the free square.
Hebert misses fg. Cut?
Steven Hemer? I thought he was suspended for PEDs?
I definitely remember something about the Steelers and Hemer ‘roids.
Get out.
Curtis Marsh is going to legally change his name to “Illegal Contact”
“This appears as if it is going to go against the Eagles.”
…because 31 is playing.
Curtis Marsh didn’t draw a flag! He gets a gold star.
Curtis Marsh made a play! At this point he may as well go balls to the wall, what does he have to lose.
Bey, drafted well ahead of Maclin, jazzed up to be slicing up the 3rd string, the curious things time does.
Bey was a classic Al Davis pick, lots of speed but not a lot of receiver skills.
It is hilarious how they just keep going against Marsh. Looks like he is going to bend over and dry heave.
What have we learned tonight about the roster battles?
That we should have created a better one at PK.
Brandon Bair is on the roster.
IDK, I don’t think much has changed lately. It is just going to come down to how many they keep at each position. The only people who have really fallen off are Marsh and Carmichael.
Keelan Johnson is gone and Reynolds stays.
That whoever loses can find a job on the Steelers.
I honestly don’t know why Barner would be worth a conditional 7th…at this point I trust Damaris more as a returner if Huff is hurt and as a runner I think Tucker and Josey looked better.
The Parkey kick offs did not really seem any better than Henery either. I thought at least he would show he could help in that area.
Marsh’s last stand?
Give it a rest Baldinger. This is pure garbage time and means nothing to either team.
If Henery is still the kicker and we have the same crappy KR/PR we have seen tonight, I don’t see how the special teams will be improved over last year to start the year.
Keelan Johnson has not looked good tonight at all, combine that with the arrest and I think it’s safe to say he is gone. Reynolds is better
So..why isn’t Josey returning kicks?
Have to try out Barner?
Hot take: I’ll take Kurt Warner and whoever this other announcer is over Cris Collinsworth and anyone else.
for sure, collinsworth makes my blood boil every time he opens his mouth. that week 17 game against dallas last year was an all timer for him
Marsh did lead the defense in tackles with 6 tonight (and penalties too)!
WE WON OUR FIRST GAME OF 2014, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Couple observations:
– These defensive contact penalties are horrible. “I really wish the refs would crack down on all the times a DB barely touches a WR and doesn’t in any way effect his ability to catch the ball” – said no one ever
– Matthews despite his production just doesn’t look impressive to me. Looks stiff. Little to no wiggle or agility. Hope I’m wrong.
– Barbre seems to be worse than last year. The difference between him and LJ is substantial
– Our 2nd team offense is infinitely better than other teams 2nd team defenses. In fact, I think our 2nd team offense would be an improvement on more than a few 1st team offenses around the league.
– Sanchez continues to look legit
– Josey looks like a true find and a legit prospect at RB
– Alex Henery blows
– Our pass rush is pretty lame and our CBs are pretty mediocre. Bad combo in a passing league
– Impressed by BJ Cunningham even though he has no chance to make the team
– I hope Curtis Marsh has his resume for Kinkos already filled out
– what the hell is with the ugly, large black collars on the Eagles jerseys?
So, who do you think the Steelers will give us for Tucker? Worldis? Polomalu?
Does anyone have Morten Andersen’s number?
5.
So, McCoy (1), Sproles (2) and….go! How do you pick from Polk, Tucker, Josey and Barner? Nice problem to have, but I hope those 4 get enough game time in the 4th preseason game to really make a decision on. I honestly liked Tucker and Josey tonight, but Barner looked OK for having no real time to practice (though the offense is vanilla enough that he shouldn’t have that hard of a time). How’s Polk’s leg? Hope we see enough to make a good decision next week. Still, a real nice problem to have.
Brandon Graham looking good as usual.
Trent Cole looked decent in coverage, which he clearly was focusing on.
Marsh needs to be cut. Tonight.
Bradley Fletcher is gonna lose his starting job I think. He has been terrible this preseason.
Backup defense did pretty well, especially considering they were mostly up against 1’s.
Henery is a huge liability at this point. His play weighs the team down markedly.
Bair is definitely making the roster.
I was one that was skeptical of Kendricks last year, but of course he had a decent year statistically and all that jazz…
But what Im seeing in the preseason from him has really surprised me. He is definately my candidate for most improved.
Last night I found myself thinkin, here we go, another long play givin up my the D on a screen, or here goes a long run…and then out of the screen, here comes kendricks. to make a stop..and it wasn’t like they were downfield stops, but good solid tackles made with the recievers getting minimal gains…
He reminded me of how it is to watch luke Keuchly. Kendricks is now my favourite player on the D.
Malcom Jenkins is also showing up.
However, Fletcher Cox…I have yet to see why he should start, except that he sometimes gets a decent hurry, and he plays the run well i guess. Vinny curry is definately better at rushing the passer. Is vinny taht bad at playing the run, that he can’t steal some play time from F. Cox?
