2nd Half – PHI 17 , PIT 0

Posted: August 21st, 2014 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 161 Comments »

This is the Eagles team we’ve been waiting for. Productive offense, solid defense.

The Steelers look like a mess. Preseason road games tend to bring out the worst in teams (just see the previous 2 weeks).

Lots of interesting stuff to discuss after the game. Fingers crossed on staying healthy.

    Marcus Smith!

I still don’t think Foles was that great. Somewhat erratic. But a much better team effort overall.

  6. 6 SteveH said at 9:26 PM on August 21st, 2014:

He missed on a couple throws he probably usually makes, but also made some really good throws. I’m not too concerned, he looks pretty much back to 2013 form after that dreadful opener.

The wrs dropped some catches too

  8. 8 Anders said at 9:37 PM on August 21st, 2014:

That Curry guy is kind of OK too.

    There’s that #75 again.

    Our back-ups even!

  15. 15 SteveH said at 9:28 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Wow, Tucker some wheels I hadn’t seen yet there.

  16. 16 bdbd20 said at 9:28 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Tucker running mad. Like someone didn’t share their weed.

  17. 17 Dragon_Eagle said at 9:29 PM on August 21st, 2014:

That was a monster hole Tucker had to run through.

  18. 18 Sb2bowl said at 1:21 PM on August 22nd, 2014:

That’s what she said? Sorry, live in NEPA, the office is “in” my town

  19. 19 Corry said at 9:29 PM on August 21st, 2014:

I will say Tucker knows how to finish a run. I like seeing him running over defensive backs.

  20. 20 shah8 said at 9:29 PM on August 21st, 2014:

The steelers aren’t very good… They look fairly vanilla, but the lack of talent is glaring.

  21. 21 Ark87 said at 9:30 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    looking tired and flat

  22. 22 SteveH said at 9:31 PM on August 21st, 2014:

We’re mauling them. I’d never really considered the pre-season road game angle Tommy mentioned but I figured the Steelers would put up more of a fight than they did.

  23. 23 Jack Waggoner said at 9:33 PM on August 21st, 2014:

They’re too stoned to put up a fight.

  24. 24 Ark87 said at 9:33 PM on August 21st, 2014:

lets just go for the preseason point record

  25. 25 Dragon_Eagle said at 9:34 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Of all the positives this pre-season so far, the one I’m most happy about is the apparent depth on the O-line. Barbre still worries me a bit, but that 2nd string OL just plowed the Steelers down the field for 7 points.

  26. 26 Anders said at 9:35 PM on August 21st, 2014:

yea, seems we have good depth at OL now.

  27. 27 Jack Waggoner said at 9:35 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Call them the Pittsburgh Stoners !

  28. 28 Dragon_Eagle said at 9:37 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Ooooh love that – obvious and corny. Texting my Stoners friend now.

    oof line drive

  30. 30 Corry said at 9:37 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Do the Steelers understand the rules of football?

  31. 31 Dragon_Eagle said at 9:38 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    Do the refs?

  32. 32 Corry said at 9:39 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    Yes, but they’re blind.

  33. 33 Corry said at 9:39 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Travis Long is out there as an ILB.

  34. 34 Corry said at 9:40 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Marcus Smith running with the receiver. Just needs to get his head around.

  35. 35 Ark87 said at 9:41 PM on August 21st, 2014:

OLB on a WR, you just turn on the burners and hope you can catch for the tackle

  36. 36 FairOaks said at 9:41 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Seemed to cover better than Carmichael

  37. 37 Corry said at 9:42 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Everyone covers better than Carmichael. Except Marsh.

  38. 38 Sb2bowl said at 1:22 PM on August 22nd, 2014:

I was actually pretty happy with that play– just as he goes to break back with Brown, he gets caught a bit flat footed, otherwise I think the pass goes incomplete. Showed awesome speed there

  39. 39 A_T_G said at 9:42 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Boy, Coleman is going to get cut if he keeps playing like that.

  40. 40 Ark87 said at 9:43 PM on August 21st, 2014:

  41. 41 Anders said at 9:44 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Was a nice hold on who ever was about to sack Big Ben

  42. 42 Ark87 said at 9:44 PM on August 21st, 2014:

saw that, but seriously, refs just feel bad now.

  43. 43 Anders said at 9:44 PM on August 21st, 2014:

yea, but its not going to get called in regular season in a tight game either.

  44. 44 Ark87 said at 9:45 PM on August 21st, 2014:

did they end the extra ref in the backfield change like they did with the long PAT’s?

  45. 45 Anders said at 9:47 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    He is still there

  46. 46 Ark87 said at 9:48 PM on August 21st, 2014:

yeah, compared to last week, this crew is way loose on the stuff going on in the trenches

  47. 47 Corry said at 9:46 PM on August 21st, 2014:

That was Travis Long playing inside.

  48. 48 Anders said at 9:47 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    Was a very good blitz.

  49. 49 Anders said at 9:43 PM on August 21st, 2014:

So when are refs going to throw offensive holding more consistent?

  50. 50 Dragon_Eagle said at 9:50 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    Wow.

  51. 51 shah8 said at 9:51 PM on August 21st, 2014:

If Sanchez was a reliable decision maker, he’d be a starter because of throws to Burton…

  52. 52 A_T_G said at 9:51 PM on August 21st, 2014:

So their starters vs. Our backups and we are still driving?

  53. 53 SteveH said at 9:51 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Pretty much. Steelers are a hot mess.

  54. 54 Dragon_Eagle said at 9:52 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    With ease.

  56. 56 Corry said at 9:52 PM on August 21st, 2014:

These are our 2’s vs. their 1s.

  57. 57 Corry said at 9:54 PM on August 21st, 2014:

These guys are playing well enough that I’m kind of excited to see the 4th preseason game.

  58. 58 Ark87 said at 9:54 PM on August 21st, 2014:

So awesome being more physical than the steelers again

  59. 59 Jack Waggoner said at 9:55 PM on August 21st, 2014:

I never saw sanchez play this well!

  60. 60 SteveH said at 9:56 PM on August 21st, 2014:

  61. 61 SteveH said at 9:55 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Anyone feeling a lot more confident heading into the regular season now? I know I am.

I think he absorbs it right through the eyes, actually.

  68. 68 Sb2bowl said at 1:24 PM on August 22nd, 2014:

We counted (wife and I)– when they showed that close up of FIPP, after the kickoff was called back. HE BLINKED 2 TIMES IN 60 SECONDS

  69. 69 SteveH said at 9:57 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Curtis Marsh in the game, expect the scoring to commence.

    Has Momah played yet?

  72. 72 Corry said at 10:00 PM on August 21st, 2014:

yeah. I think he had drew a holding call on his defender.

  73. 73 A_T_G said at 10:04 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Yeah, but are you sure he was on the field? I think receivers can get illegal contact calls from the bench.

  74. 74 A_T_G said at 10:00 PM on August 21st, 2014:

If we get the philly and nj dot com media members to put out stories that Marsh was released because of gang ties and a rap album, enraging the fan base, do you think Washington would sign him?

  75. 75 Corry said at 10:00 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    I hope so.

  76. 76 Andy124 said at 10:01 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    Why wouldn’t they?

  77. 77 Arby1 said at 10:51 PM on August 21st, 2014:

No, he’d have to be one of the best CB’s we’ve ever had first and that seems a ways away.

  78. 78 Sb2bowl said at 1:24 PM on August 22nd, 2014:

Anyway we can get him some extra tattoos/

  79. 79 Corry said at 10:02 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Steelers did nothing with their good field position. The Fipp Stare worked.

    Wolffe almost had the pick

  86. 86 A_T_G said at 10:06 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Barkley on point. Everyone looks good tonight.

  92. 92 RobNE said at 10:11 PM on August 21st, 2014:

  98. 98 A_T_G said at 10:13 PM on August 21st, 2014:

  99. 99 SteveH said at 10:14 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    We might have refused them…

  100. 100 RobNE said at 10:13 PM on August 21st, 2014:

  101. 101 Insomniac said at 10:13 PM on August 21st, 2014:

  103. 103 SteveH said at 10:14 PM on August 21st, 2014:

  106. 106 BobSmith77 said at 10:15 PM on August 21st, 2014:

See the look on Henery’s face as he walked off the field and his head was hanging? Look of a guy who knows he is in serious trouble.

  107. 107 Corry said at 10:15 PM on August 21st, 2014:

And can we cut Henery now? We’ll just go for it on 4th down all the time and always go for 2. It works in Madden.

  108. 108 shah8 said at 10:16 PM on August 21st, 2014:

  112. 112 BobSmith77 said at 10:19 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Ugh. Refs tonight have been brutal again. Gave my tickets away to this game and I refuse to waste my time and money (parking, beer) on watching a terrible product.

Sort of disappointed we aren’t getting to see more Watkins on the outside. Outside depth chart: Williams-Fletcher-Roc- Marsh wait a minute guys, shouldn’t Watkins and Carrol be 2nd string?

  116. 116 A_T_G said at 10:25 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Carrol was on earlier. Didn’t he have the pick? Was he in the slot?

  123. 123 Ark87 said at 10:28 PM on August 21st, 2014:

crazy story, his dad was a coach, disgruntled dad shot him in the chest because he wasn’t playing his kid, Kinne missed some football in protective custody.

Edit: Oh, dad survived, Kinne went on to have a nice highschool career

  124. 124 SteveH said at 10:29 PM on August 21st, 2014:

    Get out.

  130. 130 Corry said at 10:29 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Curtis Marsh didn’t draw a flag! He gets a gold star.

  133. 133 SteveH said at 10:31 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Curtis Marsh made a play! At this point he may as well go balls to the wall, what does he have to lose.

  134. 134 Ark87 said at 10:31 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Bey, drafted well ahead of Maclin, jazzed up to be slicing up the 3rd string, the curious things time does.

  135. 135 SteveH said at 10:32 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Bey was a classic Al Davis pick, lots of speed but not a lot of receiver skills.

  136. 136 BobSmith77 said at 10:32 PM on August 21st, 2014:

It is hilarious how they just keep going against Marsh. Looks like he is going to bend over and dry heave.

  137. 137 RobNE said at 10:32 PM on August 21st, 2014:

What have we learned tonight about the roster battles?

  138. 138 Christopher Miller said at 10:34 PM on August 21st, 2014:

That we should have created a better one at PK.

  139. 139 Corry said at 10:34 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Brandon Bair is on the roster.

  140. 140 SteveH said at 10:34 PM on August 21st, 2014:

IDK, I don’t think much has changed lately. It is just going to come down to how many they keep at each position. The only people who have really fallen off are Marsh and Carmichael.

  141. 141 Mitchell said at 10:37 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Keelan Johnson is gone and Reynolds stays.

  142. 142 A_T_G said at 10:38 PM on August 21st, 2014:

  143. 143 Christopher Miller said at 10:38 PM on August 21st, 2014:

I honestly don’t know why Barner would be worth a conditional 7th…at this point I trust Damaris more as a returner if Huff is hurt and as a runner I think Tucker and Josey looked better.

The Parkey kick offs did not really seem any better than Henery either. I thought at least he would show he could help in that area.

    Marsh’s last stand?

  146. 146 BobSmith77 said at 10:33 PM on August 21st, 2014:

Give it a rest Baldinger. This is pure garbage time and means nothing to either team.

  147. 147 BobSmith77 said at 10:35 PM on August 21st, 2014:

If Henery is still the kicker and we have the same crappy KR/PR we have seen tonight, I don’t see how the special teams will be improved over last year to start the year.

Keelan Johnson has not looked good tonight at all, combine that with the arrest and I think it’s safe to say he is gone. Reynolds is better

    So..why isn’t Josey returning kicks?

    Have to try out Barner?

Hot take: I’ll take Kurt Warner and whoever this other announcer is over Cris Collinsworth and anyone else.

for sure, collinsworth makes my blood boil every time he opens his mouth. that week 17 game against dallas last year was an all timer for him

Marsh did lead the defense in tackles with 6 tonight (and penalties too)!

WE WON OUR FIRST GAME OF 2014, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Couple observations:
    – These defensive contact penalties are horrible. “I really wish the refs would crack down on all the times a DB barely touches a WR and doesn’t in any way effect his ability to catch the ball” – said no one ever
    – Matthews despite his production just doesn’t look impressive to me. Looks stiff. Little to no wiggle or agility. Hope I’m wrong.
    – Barbre seems to be worse than last year. The difference between him and LJ is substantial
    – Our 2nd team offense is infinitely better than other teams 2nd team defenses. In fact, I think our 2nd team offense would be an improvement on more than a few 1st team offenses around the league.
    – Sanchez continues to look legit
    – Josey looks like a true find and a legit prospect at RB
    – Alex Henery blows
    – Our pass rush is pretty lame and our CBs are pretty mediocre. Bad combo in a passing league
    – Impressed by BJ Cunningham even though he has no chance to make the team
    – I hope Curtis Marsh has his resume for Kinkos already filled out
    – what the hell is with the ugly, large black collars on the Eagles jerseys?

So, who do you think the Steelers will give us for Tucker? Worldis? Polomalu?

So, McCoy (1), Sproles (2) and….go! How do you pick from Polk, Tucker, Josey and Barner? Nice problem to have, but I hope those 4 get enough game time in the 4th preseason game to really make a decision on. I honestly liked Tucker and Josey tonight, but Barner looked OK for having no real time to practice (though the offense is vanilla enough that he shouldn’t have that hard of a time). How’s Polk’s leg? Hope we see enough to make a good decision next week. Still, a real nice problem to have.

Brandon Graham looking good as usual.

Trent Cole looked decent in coverage, which he clearly was focusing on.

Marsh needs to be cut. Tonight.

Bradley Fletcher is gonna lose his starting job I think. He has been terrible this preseason.

Backup defense did pretty well, especially considering they were mostly up against 1’s.

Henery is a huge liability at this point. His play weighs the team down markedly.

Bair is definitely making the roster.

I was one that was skeptical of Kendricks last year, but of course he had a decent year statistically and all that jazz…

But what Im seeing in the preseason from him has really surprised me. He is definately my candidate for most improved.

Last night I found myself thinkin, here we go, another long play givin up my the D on a screen, or here goes a long run…and then out of the screen, here comes kendricks. to make a stop..and it wasn’t like they were downfield stops, but good solid tackles made with the recievers getting minimal gains…

He reminded me of how it is to watch luke Keuchly. Kendricks is now my favourite player on the D.

Malcom Jenkins is also showing up.

However, Fletcher Cox…I have yet to see why he should start, except that he sometimes gets a decent hurry, and he plays the run well i guess. Vinny curry is definately better at rushing the passer. Is vinny taht bad at playing the run, that he can’t steal some play time from F. Cox?
