Staff Shuffle
Posted: February 3rd, 2015 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 177 Comments »The Eagles made some staff moves on Tuesday night.
Matt Harper will move from Asst STs coach to Asst DBs coach. He replaces Todd Lyght, who moved on to Vanderbilt. Harper was a Safety for Oregon and will mostly work with Safeties with the Eagles so that sure seems like a good fit.
Harper’s old job will go to Michael Clay, who served as the defensive quality control coach last year.
Clay’s old job will go to Stephen Thomas. He was the ILB coach for Princeton the past 3 years. He coached at Cortland, Delaware and Southern Miss as well.

The most interesting move is the hiring of Joe Pannunzio. He served as Alabama’s Director of Football Operations for the past 4 years.
The Eagles haven’t announced this move yet. The word broke from sources in Alabama.
ICYMI: Alabama Director of Football Operations, Joe Pannunzio, is headed to the Philadelphia Eagles. https://t.co/UthAYFUfrG
— Aaron Suttles (@AaronSuttles) February 4, 2015
Pannunzio has an interesting background.
He was at the University of Miami as TEs coach for a few years. The OL coach was Jeff Stoutland. And this is when Miami was accused of some major NCAA violations. Alabama ended up hiring both Stoutland and Pannunzio despite the allegations. Remember, Bama had already hired Ed Marynowitz when he had the NCAA checking him out.
And Pannuzio is no saint. Check out what college president F. King Alexander said about him.
“You must understand that in 2005 when I was president at Murray State, I fired our football coach, Joe Pannunzio, because of numerous incidents that occurred in our program under him that were quite bad,” Alexander said. “Well, Pannunzio immediately was hired by Miami, and he’s one of the coaches who’s been prominently mentioned by Shapiro in the current scandal. He’s now the head of football operations at Alabama.”
Wow.
Pannunzio was named in the damning Yahoo! report as someone who, while an assistant coach at Miami, “had a close relationship with Shapiro and facilitated the booster having improper contact with recruits.” Shapiro refused to speak on or off the record regarding the Pannunzio allegations uncovered by Yahoo!.
Another former Miami assistant, Jeff Stoutland, is also on Nick Saban‘s Alabama staff, serving as the Tide’s offensive line coach after being hired in January.
Saban addressed Thursday the two new members of the program allegedly involved in the South Beach scandal, and said the two were thoroughly vetted prior to their hirings.
“I know what goes on in this program and I know that we do things correctly,” Saban said. “We do have people in this organization, who worked there (at Miami). Before those people were ever hired here we do an NCAA check to make sure they pass all compliance criteria and that they don’t have any red flags relative to compliance history.
“We certainly did that in both of these cases. Now, if any of these people had any wrongdoing, I’m sure the NCAA will investigate it in due time and, if they did anything wrong, I’m sure they will get the appropriate punishment, which we would do if we had any internal problems in our organization. But we’re going to continue and control and manage what we do in our organization and do it correctly, and that’s basically all we can be concerned about.”
Clearly Nick Saban had no reservations about hiring people that pushed the rules ( or flat out broke them). Chip Kelly seems pretty open to it as well.
If Pannunzio can help the Eagles to find and develop talent, I’m not worried about some NCAA infractions. It does make for an interesting pattern, though.
As for Pannunzio’s biggest claim to fame…
Most @AlabamaFTBL fans don't realize Dir of FB Ops Joe Pannunzio convinced Miami b-ball player @TheJimmyGraham to try football at The U.
— Phil Savage (@SeniorBowlPhil) October 27, 2014
Good eye for talent right there. Graham was a basketball player at Miami until his Senior year.
_
glad for Todd Bowles
If he could convince Jimmy Graham to play football, maybe he can convince our cornerbacks to try it too
What? Wait….I see what you did there…..
The fact that this might be one of the most upvoted comments in IgglesBlitz history says everything you need it to about our faith in the Eagles secondary next year.
I wish I could upvote this once a day until the season starts again! lol
Both Super Bowl coaches have player personnel control and a history of cheating. Kelly arrived with NCAA violations hanging over his head and now he has full player personnel control. It looks like the Eagles have dialed into this winning combination.
meh. I don’t know the specifications of these 2 individuals, but I’d buy them a drink on principle. “The enemy of my enemy….” –>scr3w the ncaa
If you ain’t cheatin, you ain’t tryin!
Recruiting violations mean nothing to on field football, no need to recruit in the NFL. Anyone who compares it to bill belicheat, who disrespected the game of football, is clownshoes.
Kelly was not caught cheating. The recruiting service he hired was. He was guilty by association. Look it up. The NCAA has gone from a unifying and governing organization just another huge money machine. Like the NFL.
OPEC thinks the NCAA is a messed up cartel.
Lol. Great one.
The NCAA has always been about the money. Amateurism was started to separate the rich white people from the poor black people.
100% yes.
Starting?
“Amateurism was created to separate the rich… etc”
Cheat away! Just don’t get caught.
its “gamesmanship” until you get caught, then its “cheating”
Well, Chip Kelly has no qualms breaking the spirit of the rules:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10961624/chip-kelly-philadelphia-eagles-uses-remote-control-car-rookie-minicamp
Funny how u mention Graham, Chip wouldn’t let him see the field because he’s not a very good run blocker lol
In what round of your fantasy draft did you take Ertz?
LOL None but I did pick him up as f/a
Carroll also confirmed that nickelback Jeremy Lane broke his left arm Sunday.
Wasn’t Browner running his mouth about telling his Pats teammates to break arms….
Did he Foreshadow this or what?
Physics called and verified the report of the broken arm.
http://dailysnark.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Screen-Shot-2015-02-01-at-7.55.58-PM.png
he needs to learn how to get tackled. That was one of many factors that cost Seattle the game.
OUCH.
Sherman would have kept playing lol
In all seriousness I did find it a little strange/funny that Browner was saying that in the media and then it happened. Should have made it a prop bet!
Sherman did keep playing. As did Chancellor, Thomas and Lynch.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000468316/article/kam-chancellor-played-through-mcl-tear-in-super-bowl
I know Mags I was JK those guys were def banged up.
I don’t think anyone would have kept playing with what happened to Lane, that was a tough break.
Jeremy Lane Horror Injury. Broken Arm in Super Bowl 2015: http://youtu.be/OsAfy1YUO78
DB’s should learn when to go down after an interception:
GB DB with 30 yards of open space: keep running
Seattle DB with no more open space: get down
To be fair a certain greenly DB did go down and maybe they were coached not to go down until tackled.
I dunno just found it odd overall
I thought the Eagles SB loss was bad ! haha Fuck Seattle and Patriots
“The New JoePa” looks a little like Kelsey Grammer

Since we hired bad boy Pannunzio it’s safe to assume Dez Bryant will be an Eagle.
He might get franchised, so most likely he won’t. Dallas can only pay one, and I think they are sticking with Bryant over Murray.
Irony beats culture. 😉
I know the name isn’t the same, but all I could think about was
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY2HL1zg6Gk
Saban has enough power and ability to control the program at Bama. it gives him freedom to hiring talented people others might not be able to handle.
as a Bama fan I remember what happened when the program had a head coach who could not control the staff and boosters. Mike Duboise was a disaster.
the short of it is — if you’re a player with questionable character, there’s no place for you on the roster — if you’re a coach of questionable character you’re welcomed with open arms …
misconception…chips charecter issues are only with knuckleheads whos charecter issues keep from committing 100% of themselves to the good of the team… you can have questionABLE CHARACTER as long as footballs your life and you arent a selfish team mate. if you will put in the work and make any sacrafice for the good of the eagles, chip will draft you
Do you think Chip would sign Dez Bryant? I get your point about committed to football and your team, but I personally think he would have too much baggage for Chip to consider him.
Dez is no Josh Gordon. I’d sign him. Let Mac walk. Dez and Mathews would be an amazing duo.
On the field, besides Megatron, there isn’t a WR who would be better in Chip’s system. Maybe Dez would be even better than Megatron, because of his crazy YAC ability. But on the field isn’t the problem with Dez. Off the field is, and because of the great season he had, money is.
josh gordon would be scary in coopers spot, even justin blackmon… unfortunately he had two drinks on a plane after the season ended and he is now BANNED, not suspended, for atleast a year lol. goodell fuck off!!
This depends if Mac wants Dez like $
If Mac will take 7 mil a year keep him
If Mac wants +10mil get Dez
That said Im a big fan Of Mac
I thin Mac’s making the right decision testing the market. His starts put him in the Dez / Demaryius conversation. Wouldn’t sit on 7/yr when those guys are getting 11/yr.
Im a big fan of Mac and honestly think he’s a very good player and seems like a great person but he is NOT on Dez or demaryius talent level
He should get PAID, not over paid imo
Also I would hope we offer him at max
5yr 40 mil
mac isnt testing the market… just silly media crap.
no…. cant count on him…doubt he would follow all of chips sports science stuff…. if chip has to worry about you outside of novacare, he doesnt have time for that. chip is all in, all the time and has no tolerance for those whos commitment isnt as fanatical as his
Not sure, Dez likes to party a lot and stay out late. I seen that before the game in London this past season or wherever that was that he was partying almost all night. If he bought in and stopped doing all that and got on board with sports science which requires the sleep part, I’d sign Dez without a doubt.
Maybe Chip is getting these guys with shady pasts into the coaching/management ranks so that he can draft or sign players who also have bad history and point them at the coaches and say “these guys also made mistakes, but they’re doing the right thing now. (and winning)”
I’m not gonna elaborate. I’m just gonna say I like the changes and especially the Pannunzio hire. Now bring us some elite talent!!!
The Eagles are going to walk the proverbial line of breaking and not breaking the rules until Chip is outta here.. and im NOT upset about it!!
@ T-Law
Any word about what job Pannunzio will have here?
Am I a bad person for not caring one bit about executives who violated NCAA rules in terms of recruiting?
Let me say that I’m no expert at those rules. But whenever I hear about someone who broke those rules and what they did, I think: whatever. As long as he’s good at his job, hire him.
Same thing when I hear about the Gurley “scandal”. I simply don’t care and my impression is, NFL execs don’t care either. Can’t blame them.
What I find more interesting is the Saban/Kelly connection. I know how close Belichick and Saban are, I know that Kelly and Belichick are close, but at least it seems to me like Kelly is close with Saban, too.
You can say a lot of things about Kelly, but his gang is really as elite as it gets. Belichick is one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time. Saban and Urban Meyer are two of the greatest College coaches of all time. And btw. Kelly himself wasn’t at the top level that long, but he’s a legend in College, too.
My guess is functionally his job will be similar to Marynowitz’s job that he just got promoted out of. Don’t know if they’ll call it the same thing (Assistant Director of Player Personnel)
The NCAA is a horrible organization that essentially uses young athletes as slaves so I do not think you should have any moral misgivings about not caring about their rules.
Pannunzio’s job? ‘I’m just here for 2 years then on to a real GM job in the NFL. This is my entry position”.
I’d be concerned about guys breaking NCAA rules if it weren’t such a fraudulent and non-sensical organization.
Chip never fire anyone, they just keep adding guys and moving old guys to other positions. Soon the FO and coaching payroll is going to be bigger then players.
wow Cornrow Ray Horton has been demoted and dick Labeau is now going to call the titans defense even if he doesnt hold the title of DC… horton just got neutered lol
jeez… glad that happened now and not when the giants and washington were looking for DC…
Or may be a pairing of two great DC’s who have worked together before, and whose appreciation for each other is bigger than either’s ego. Le Beau is 97, so maybe Horton staying was a condition laid down by Le Beau.
horton has been vocal about wanting to move up to headcoach status for years…
You know there is this guy in New England who likes to “push the rules” and his team just won the Super Bowl. So I’m OK with the Pannunzio hire. Maybe he’s here to do the “small things” that it takes to win in this league. To be honest, I’m against cheating, but it seems that you can cheat in this league without severe punishment.
So Pats will open at home on the first Thurs night game. The top choices seem to be Steelers and us. I would not be surprised if it’s the Eagles.
I hate Thursday night games but I guess if you get one, the first week is best bc you are not on a short week and then you have 10 days for the next opponent.
boy would love to beat the Pats when they get their rings.
I dont think I want the eagles to get that game. That’s almost guaranteed loss. NE is almost unbeatable there as it is and would be even tougher in the home opener after winning the SB
But if the Pats are nearly unbeatable at home — meaning the Eagles will very like lose whenever the game’s played (on that premise)– wouldn’t you want the Thurs Night Opener to get the 10 days’ preparation for the next opponent?
Consider that ESPN may ask that the NFL schedule the Eagles v. Pats for a MNF game later in the season — leaving 1 less day to prepare for the next game. Off of a loss, too (again, on the premise that the Pats are a near home lock).
Shouldn’t Eagles fans want to the Thurs night opener?
Few things on that
1. I prefer not to start the season 0-1 (hoping if we play mid season we are a better team by then)
2. While odds of beating Pats are home are low, I think they get worse on a season opener after winning the SB.
3. I would take that MNF game with better chance of winning in NE as that’s probably our toughest game
What if those mean NFL schedule-makers put the Eagles on the road after facing New England on MNF?
Ultimately, the only sure thing at this point is opening the season in NE guarantees 10 days before the next game.
Otherwise, the schedule’s a crap shoot
we will be on the road at Dallas the week after playing NE on MNF. Book it.
I actually think that the Eagles will NOT get the prime time season opener as a non-playoff team. Steelers with big Ben are more likely, followed by the Bills with their new HC Rex Ryan.
wow offseason boredom is settling in and its barely febuary..
..
my boy Daqwell Jckson got arrested. thats always fun… punched pizza deliverboy in the face and his head over a parking spot. charged with simple assualt.. colts are a mess off the field.
…
sheil says matt Barkleys job is in jeapordy lol, not sure how you can make that statement now, when sanchez is about to be a free agent, chip wont want to teach the offense to two new QBs this year. if sanchez is gone, barkley is safe… probably better chance Barkley asks for a trade since he is delusional enough to think he can start, then for the Eagles to waive him if they lose sanchez… not that o really care either way
Its possible that the Eagles realized after the Patriots won the superbowl that their cheating factor wasn’t high enough and decided they needed to bring someone in to correct that, hence the Pannunzio hire.
Hey it works…
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c9Q8bHQO8-Y/VL-_2HujwJI/AAAAAAAAAG8/jxublbped6k/s1600/12.jpg
I find it fascinating, ( and very hypercritical ) for Chip Kelly to ” preach ” culture, every chance he gets, but then he turns around ( when it’s convenient ) and disregards ( character ) issues when he hires, or promotes his staff. Marynowitz was suspended without pay for violating NCAA player contact rules, where he broke those rules numerous times, while working for Alabama. Now Kelly also hires Pannunzio, who has a even dirtier past, concerning NCAA violations. There are ” rumors ” that came out, after last years draft, that Kelly made it very difficult for Roseman to construct their draft board, because Kelly put red flags next to many players names ( removing those players from any serious consideration ) and therefore, seriously limiting their options for drafting many talented players. This seems ( if true ) very ironic, considering Kellys recent staff hirings. I would love to see Tommy’s insights into these issues. He knows a lot of football people, who have, a lot of inside information. That would be a interesting read.
Pannunzio is going to convince free agents to sign here. He’ll give them an offer they can’t refuse.
razzisti
Google image search for “razzisti” brings up this cartoon. I don’t know Italian but this one isn’t hard to figure out.
http://media.happyblog.it/r/raz/razzisti.jpg
do you like movies in black and white, yes or no?… not very funny
I read it as: Q. Do you like movies in white and black? A. Yes and no.
Nice ….. I like it. I also heard, he makes a ” sweet ” Panettone bread, homemade. His bio says, he once was a extra, in a episode of the Sopranos, where he played a guy who lied, then he got promoted, by the ” boss. “
Good thing this is the NFL.. not the ncaa… also… do you have a source in the war room? how do you have this info?
No source, that’s why I put ( rumor ) in parenthesis. I think I heard Adam Caplan say it. He is pretty connected with NFL ” insider ” information. I just assumed it to be true, because the Eagles desperately needed help at cornerback, and they passed on Bradley Roby, a great athalete at the cornerback position. He is 5′ 11″ and ran a 4.39 – 40 yard dash, at the combine. He had character issues coming out, or he probably would have been the number one or two corner drafted last year. He would have been a much better pick, than Marcus Smith III, who nobody expected to be drafted in the 1st round.
Isn’t the point of the GM making a draft board to get players the coach wants?
Yes ….. I think you missed my point. That’s ok.
BTW, is “hypercritical” the word you were really going for there?
No, I’m a ” hypo ” crite, for spelling that wrong.
Pretty sure that Marynowitz’s violations occured when he was at Central Florida , not at Alabama. Regardless, I agree with your general point. Marynowitz was hired before Kelly got here. Kelly himself has NCAA violations in his past. Stoutland was painted by the media as being involved in the whole Miami scandal but I don’t think he was mentioned in the NCAA’s final report. Now, Pannunzio’s baggage. To me, I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with any of these guys’ character. They just didn’t pay annough attention to detail in following the NCAA rules exactly. As long as they give them a thorough background check, I don’t really have a problem hiring them. I’d hope Kelly will likewise view each draft prospect on a case-by-case basis and not automatically remove him from the draft board on the basis of past transgressions.
Greg, I’m quite baffled by your quote, ” I don’t think that there is anything wrong with these guys character …… they just didn’t pay (enough ) attention to ( detail ) in following the NCAA rules ( exactly. ) ” You must work in politics, or be a lawyer, because that was the biggest twist on a characterization, about something that iv’e heard in some time. They ” didn’t pay enough attention, to the details of the rules. ” Were you serious, with that, or were you pulling my leg ? Let me clarify something to you …. IGNORANCE, is NOT a excuse, when you violate a ( law or rule. ) Just ask the Saints coach, and Roger Goodell. It’s not the crime of the century, i’m positive that many, many collages stretch the rules, to their limits.
You are confusing “culture” and “character”. They are not the same things. Kelly is building a “win at all costs, screw the rules” culture. It may not be what you were thinking when Kelly preached culture, but it’s still a culture. And that kind of culture seems to be working out pretty good for the Seahawks and Patriots.
I don’t think “screw the rules” is accurate. We’ve heard about him going after guys to taking shortcuts, cutting across the grass, that sort of thing.
In my opinion, he just doesn’t care about NCAA recruiting rules. Those are really the only violations anyone has been guilty of.
isn’t violating NCAA recruiting rules a form of taking a short cut.
Honestly i have no position on this Kelly boviously sets his own priorities. There’s something about Alabama recruiting that he loves (probably that they are the best at it). I’m sure he also understands that Alabama was soo good partially b/c of the name.
Bad news is that I wonder if any of these guys will be good DB recruiters.
This is a terrible analogy, but maybe dodging NCAA rules is the football equivalent of civil disobedience. Chip Kelly is Gandhi in a visor.
haha ok i see what you’re saying.
I strongly disagree with you. Yes, character does not exactly equate to culture. That is, unless you are building a ” culture ” of ( high character ) players. Culture can represent ” anything ” that you want it to. I think what Kelly was saying was – I / we / Philadelphia Eagles, can win -without ” great players “, because of the ( great system ) culture that I have instilled / installed. I think, Kelly believes that players, that are not willing to buy into ” his culture ” , are people who ( must be ) lacking in high character. I guess it is somewhat semantics, but I still am surprised that Kelly has hired a guy with some questions about his ( ethical ) ” character. “
What Kelly preach is culture, that means 100% devoted to his cause, if that means every roll the socks up everybody does that. Kelly can then care less what you do outside of that.
Jackson was not cut because of any gang thing, he was cut because he “would roll his socks up” part of the culture
so not cutting them for roids but cutting them for not wearing a sleep monitor?
yep, pretty much
I could be wrong …. but I wouldn’t confuse ” pulling socks up ” with Kelly’s, culture statements. I think, what I was trying to say, was that kelly doesn’t want players with character issues, because he thinks that people with questionable character are less likely to, by into ” HIS ” type of ” team culture .” So ( in my opinion ) Kelly is saying that ( high character = great team culture. )
Well that is true in general, but look at McCoy, not the most perfect character, but he has bought 100% into Kelly’s culture.
Players have to have character, coaches just have to be characters.
No you didn’t. Oh, I see what you did. Wait, oh, ok. Hell, no. Alright.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/02/04/cowboys-running-back-joseph-randle-arrested-again/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs
Thats the guy the Cowboys will be relying on when they let Murray walk!
(no Peterson won’t play for JJ only being paid peanuts, Lawyers are expensive)
Randle just made Murray some money
You guys should check this out. The Eagles’ “dysfunction” is child’s play compared to Cleveland:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/25038103/browns-mess-with-gordon-manziel-starts-with-owner-haslams-mismanagement
Take it with a grain of salt, though, as it’s a LaCanfora article.
Can any individual’s NCAA violations come close to the fraudulence of the NCAA? This is an organization backed by billions of dollars that exists to perpetuate a master/slave relationship between school and athlete, AND to promote the far-fetched notion that scholarship recipients have no more rights than convicted felons. Many of the “violations” that raise the ire of the big bad NCAA involve efforts on the part of students and administrators to address basic issues of freedom of speech and association. If the NFL gets tired of the gravy train, it can always go the way of baseball, build a minor league, pay their prospects and tell the NCAA to fuck off and deal with it. There will be mass retirements of university presidents and administrators – and none of those hypocrites will be missed. Schools would close for lack of revenue, and maybe, just maybe the priorities of higher education can be adjusted to fall inline with its institutions’ stated missions. It can’t happen soon enough.
no, that’s why all of us don’t seem to care much that Chip or the new guy from Bama broke their rules.
I love that idea.
The fact that football coaches are the highest paid government official in like 20 states is obscene. Add in basketball coaches and its something like 40 states.
Those coaches salaries are paid for by alumni donations specifically to the athletic department. Most of those alums are also more inclined to give to the academic side as well, but it is their ties to the football and basketball programs that keep them close to the university.
That’s circular logic. Schools should be for academics, let the NFL field a minor league.
I got a world class education and played college football simultaneously.
Good for you. That doesn’t mean the system isn’t absurd.
“If the NFL gets tired of the gravy train, it can always go the way of baseball, build a minor league, pay their prospects and tell the NCAA to fuck off and deal with it.”
_______________
Why would the NFL spend hundreds of millions of dollars to build a viable developmental league — absent the dissolution of college football — when the NCAA already exists?
I can think of a couple of reasons: Increase the tent. The NCAA is full of mid-level bureaucrats who answer to alumni and school VIPs. They are of marginal service to the NFL. By expanding the scope of the NFL, a hefty revenue increase would fall to the NFL. 2) The NCAA is not a loved institution. Football si /NCAA no. The NFL risks its stature by being an ally of a despised institution. The NFL does not need the NCAA, but should the NCAA crumble, the NFL would have to pick up the pieces. By being proactive, it can preempt a severe blow. And last, The End of The NCAA is a book waiting to be written, and the NFL could occupy such a massive stage that nobody would be able to focus on it’s myriad internal political controversies. No billionaire will say no to more millions!
Tre Thomas has been let go. basically they created a position for him two years ago, but they wont have anyone filling that position any more. Im sure the experience will help Tre continue moving up in his coaching career.
..
2 years ago we added him to our staff creating a spot for him, and he was helping the offensive lineman, alot of work helping lANE GET up to speed, but last year chip moved him to the other side of the ball, let him get some experience with the defense, so this past year instead of working with the OL, he was working with the OLBs on their pass rush to beat offensive tackles… cant give Tre ALL THE CREDIT, McGovern is an excellent OLB coach and billy davis even brought Hall of fame Kevin Green to help the OLBs with their pass rush… i dont know how much credit should go to Tre but Barwin practically trippled his sack total since Tre moved to that side of the ball, BG had a breakout year… curious to see whos staff Tre lands on next…
…
Tre confirmed that Marcus Smith moving to ILB was purely a numbers game, case of Meco getting injured and not any snaps available at OLB with Cole,BG, and Barwin balling, but tre says he expects Marcus future to be as a OLB pass rusher…. says Marcus is a smart kid, who will figure it out and that most of his issues were just a case of needing to get stronger which is pretty common for rookie edge rushers..
…
always liked Tre, he was a philly guy thru and thru, and he talked about still being fixated on winning a superbowl. Hope he lands on his feet and goes on to climb the assistant coaches ladder.for a successful career. He was a warrior in the trenches for us
“He was a warrior in the trenches for us”
No. He was a football player.
so why’d we let him go?
no idea… obviously he shouldnt get credit for the OLB pass rushing stats,… i just always liked Tre, and hope he can parlay a coaching career from this two year opportunity chip gave him to get his foot in the door… sounded like he wants to go back to the offensive side ideally
BROWNS ARE A MESS!!!!
..
JUSTIN GILBERT #8 pick in the draft is starting to be called a draft bust already LOL Jordan Poyer got playing time ahead of him late in the season:
…CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports Browns first-round CB Justin Gilbert was seen “more as a nuisance than an asset” by the end of this past season.
“He was routinely late, was a chronic knucklehead and rubbed teammates and coaches the wrong way,” writes La Canfora, who has an excellent writeup on the new lows of the Browns at the link below. Gilbert, the No. 8 pick in last year’s draft, was reportedly often late to games. He played just 373 snaps as a rookie and tumbled behind UDFA K’Waun Williams and fourth-rounder Pierre Desir. Much like teammate Johnny Manziel, Gilbert has the early makings of a bust.
…
so Justin Gilbert is a jackass, Manziel is in rehab.. those are their first round picks! LOL
…
now they are going to get draft picks taking away because the morons in the front office were texting the coaches during games to tell them what plays to Call? hahahaha
..
how did these morons have enough brains to know my boy Christian Kirksey was going to be a stud? thats my guy… they dont deserve him. wish chip would trade for him and save Kirksey from Cleveland….
cant believe an organization w/ such talented players can’t get it together for the fans.
im going to make my lifes mission getting Kirksey out of cleveland!!! KID SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN EAGLE!!!
…
GILBERT AND MANZIEL two jackasses who are viewed as busts alot in part to work ethic… think before we laugh at chips obsession with charecter, and culture… justin Gilbert doesnt suck because of any lack of ability or work ethic
FINGERS CROSSED:
..
Falcons get their first round pick taken away for illegally pumping fabricated crowd noise into the stadium when opposing teams had the bal
…
Browns get one, or both of there first round picks taken away because dyfunctional GM is texting coach what plays to run during the game
..
if those two teams get there picks taken away that means instead of picking #20, we would really be having the 17th or 18th pick depending on if they take one or two of the browns picks…
…
that would be HUGE! we missed out on clinton Dix by one draft spot last year. Atlanta is being accused of this two years in a row and the owner is admitting it to try and get in front of it since he knows they have proof, two years of violating rules, they better take there top 10 pick
Those violations aren’t going to get 1st round picks taken away. Maybe 3rd round picks at the max.
i dunno about that… normally, you probably right.. but the NFL is taking too many hits, too many teams are cheating, breaking rules, goodell has gotta get a fucking grip on things because he is making a mess of the “sheild”… falcons been cheating for two friggin years.. a 3rd round pick in todays climate wont be enough for two years of pumping artificial noise in the stadium..
…
How many franchises are going to get in trouble for different ways of cheating? Goodell better get a grib, and do something to put a stop to this nonsense… Id be pissed if we were playing in atlanta and they were pumping noise thru the speakers when our offense is on the field..

all this cheating crap needs to stop
Why can’t a GM text a coach during a game? Seems like an asinine rule. If he is there in person he can talk to him, if he calls him on his phone, he can talk to him, but if he texts he’s breaking a rule?
I agree, he’s the owner for godsake, why can’t he text the coach?
The violation isn’t communication between GM and coaches the infraction is coaches were receiving text messages on the sideline which is against nfl policy (as is should be). If GM came on the field and told them to run a play that’s fine.
Goodell’s on some thin ice with his employers.
I don’t see him docking anyone a 1st Rd pick — especially teams trying to rebuild, like Atlanta (whose owner is on the NFL Finance Committee, I believe).
We could have just lost the last game.
For ACViking. 😉
thx, GE . . .
He’s UCLA-bound, as predicted.
Westwood’s way to nice.
And Michigan sucks, has losers for fans, and a human piece of trash for a coach.
Clearly it seems like Howie Roseman wont be giving any interviews or talking to any media as long as Chip kelly continues to be the Grand Puba of the Eagles.. But what about Marynowitz? he is technically howies replacement, will Marynowitz be someone that talks to the media, or will he be someone like Don Smolenski who most fans dont even know what he looks like?
…
Man-o-war-itz isnt a GM, but he is the closest thing we have to a GM other than Chip… curious to see if like Howies GM era, if media will have access to Marynowitz from time to time, or will he never talk to media like Tom Gamble?
I think Marynowitz will do the interviews Howie did before
Hope so, but if that was the case shouldnt we be seeing an introductory press conference, where he is formally introduced to the local merdia and they get their first chance to talk to him?
..
chip doesnt do any media unless mandated by the NFL,and right now chip doesnt have to talk so maybe they push this back til right before free agency, because i would assume we will see Marynowitz at a press conference introdfucing free agents, like the glorious day that will be the signing of DaNorris Searcy..
…
Did the Eagles have a press conference when they hired Gamble? I don’t think they did. With Kelly as HC, they seem to just issue press releases instead of have PCs. At least in the offseason. Marynowitz may talk at the combine.
when we hired Gamble, the media still had access to his superior, Howie who was the face of the Personnel department…. Marynowitz now is the top guy in the Personnel department, i hope the media has access to him, if not we will get less info than usual if chip wheres both hats to the point where we have zero access to anyone in pesonnel
I think their approach to the media is to fullfill their league mandated requirements and that’s it. Maybe Kelly will take note of Marshawn Lynch repeating “I’m here so I won’t get fined” at the Super Bowl media and the league determining that he fullfilled his requirements and wouldn’t be fined and Kelly will think “Maybe I should try that.”
Someone posted this on 24/7. FA virgil green (TE) broncos — see story seems like a CK guy. Would be a great replacement for Casey.
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_27239265/broncos-tight-end-virgil-green-provides-incredible-hulk
Green’s a good fit but I think Burton will take over Casey’s role if he was released. I think Green would be a good target if they move on from Celek. I don’t think they will though.
i normally download torrents of all the weekends games monday morning and watch a few teams while waiting to fall asleep at night to get thru the week until the next eagles game….. difference is when i download an Eagle game I burn it to DVD and add it to my Eagle library, but the torrents i download of the other teams i delete them at the end of the week, which sucks now that i want to watch them again to look at certain players…
.
last year i was fairly confident we would sign Jenkins so i went back and watched the saints defensive snaps last offseason… reaching the point where im fairly certain we will aggressively pursue DaNorris Searcy, so im in the process of downloading all the Bills games again, and i want to give a closer look to the season searcy had. If anyone cares ill post a recap of each game as i get thru his snaps… the crappy part is it wont be easy for me to get ALL OF last years games and i wanted to get a look at him prior to this year when he was used as a subpackage safety..
..
one of my rules is stay away from signing the free agents who are coming off one monster year thats significantly better than his previous seasons, but this is a young kid who is still developing and its not like he was pissing away opportunities the last few years, they lost Byrd and this kid finally got an opportunity to play a big role and made the most of it having a quality season…
…
McCourty will get franchised before the Pats let him get away
..
Browns are a joke, but i assume they will match what ever we offer restricted FA Tashuan Gipson,
..
and Rahim Moore is a nice young safety, but i cant replace Nate allen, with a safety who the first thing i think of when his name is mentioned is giving up monster plays, crunch time of the playoffs…we need to be eliminating the penalties in the secondary and stop giving up X plays, and i cant get the image of Rahim getting beat out of my head, I have been watching that level of safety play for years…i need better
…
Dashon Goldson probably becomes available but id rather have hungry young Searcy than Goldson whos best days are behind him.
…
anyone know of any red flags, character issues when it comes to searcy. Im going to evaluate each of his regular season games this year and as much of last year as I can find…… kids gonna be an eagle…
Ron Parker from KC?
probably not the best idea to try and sign a safety from a team that needs a safety as bad as us…lol Safety and WR are problems for KC. heck they needed a safety before they found out Erik Berry had cancer. hoping KC scoops up Landon Collins and its possible since andy doesnt chose the players
..
its like us, trying to sign a cornerback from the steelers lol
Depends on who pays more.
“The pair of cleats Parkey wore in the Eagles’ Week 17 win over the New York Giants
was packaged and shipped off to the Hall of Fame on Wednesday. In that
final game of the season, Parkey set an NFL record for the most points
by a rookie in a season. He also set the Eagles’ franchise record for
most points in a season in 2014 with 150.”
man if he only made 2 more field goals….
legend in the making.
Any interest in Jordan Cameron?!
Word is that he’s eager to leave the Browns mess as he’s set to become a Free Agent. Now three concussions in the last two years are certainly a concern, however – when and if healthy – he’d be a nice complement to Ertz.
I love Brent Celek, but his production Is on the decline and he cannot take those brutal any much longer.
he told the browns he is out of there….
…
I like him, but we wont be interested.. not to mention he is 1 concussion away from having his career end
I think we need a blocking thug to compliment Ertz at this point. I don’t think Cameron would be an appropriate compliment. Also, he’s not going to be cheap enough. I’d rather use a draft pick for a 2nd TE and pay the dude cheap wages for 4 years.
Fair enough. Afair Cameron’s blocking was adequate.
He is one cuncossion away from Chris pronged status. Hate to say it, and it’s certainly nOT my place, but I wish he would retire. I really dont want to see that young man take another hit….. His last concussion had lingering effects and he didn’t get over it quick.. Once a kid is having trouble overcom ng concussion effects, I really wish they would consider walking away
jesse james kid from PSU
4th rounder?
something like that.. dont think he will blow us away at the combine, but seems like a tough, rugged young cat that can grow into a celek type, and im usually not a psu fan
Cutting Celek and Casey would save us $8.7m by the way…..
howie is in the corner, that def aint happening now
I’m just saying. Actually when thinking about it really hard I am not sure if the Eagles will pay Celek $4.75m next season…
More to GEAGLE’s point, Chip Kelly would pay Celek, his favorite player by a large margin. Seeing as Chip’s in charge, I’m inclined to agree with GEAGLE. Perhaps Celek restructures to retire as an Eagle, but I doubt anyone with the ability has the desire to cut Celek outright, prudent or not.
i happen to believe that as well. However wondering still bears to be interesting. In fact I cannot wait to see who’s calling the shots when it comes down to very difficult salary decisions. Something inside me still wants to believe that Howie will have a say. But again, very interesting off season ahead of us!
casey wont be cut either. Chip cares too much about culture to cut the hardest working player at novacare, who has made huge personal sacrifice for the good of this team. I assume we will extend casey, so we can give him a new deal, and make it clear to him that his time will come when Celeks ends.. Thinking James Casey/Ertz/Burton will be our long term trio, but Celek will remain as long as we can rationally keep him
…
chip kelly is all about culture, sacrifice for the good of the team, he knows he cant afford to continue to try and have a pro team with a college team environment if he cuts Casey who is the poster child for everything Chip preaches…. come to work early, work your ass off, help young burton grow to take your job, sacrafice more personal stats and touches than any player on this team, and chip will cut you? James Casey is his poster child for “buying in,and making sacrifices for this team, we will try to et his cap figure down a bit by giving him an extension
$4.0M for a 3rd string TE. If someone sits Chip down and tells him it’s a choice between keeping Kelly or signing X safety or Y cornerback, one would hope he has enough sanity to not pay a 3rd string TE $4M. Let Howie negotiate that down to even half of what he was going to make. $2M is still a lot to pay for a 3rd string TE but he’s a great STs player so we could live with it.
thats why i said to give james an extension…
An extension not always works out to saving money. The extension needs to include a pay cut otherwise you are just ‘parking’ dead money for the future.
Unless Casey takes at least half a pay cut he’s simply not worth holding on if you’ve got Trey Burton waiting in the wings.
celek still produces, just not in a way easy for the fans to see, and not in a way that shows up on the stat sheet.
.,.
heck, putting Celek in to run block is the only thing close to us running “Power”… its like our version of power plays. cut him and we are all finesse..
Check virgil green from the post below — Celek and Case combined. Run game improved almost 20 yds/game when he started blocking when JT was out. Gym rat type – calls himself Hulk.
That wouldn’t be a bad idea. They could keep him in a dark, quiet room, between games.
It was reported that, similar to the surprising pronunciation of Marynowitz, Pannunzio has a surprising pronunciation as well: Pin-o-key-o.
Friggin laughed out loud. I read that 3 times before I was sure you were joking. Good one.
Thanks. As a general rule, if I appear to be breaking new information to the forum, be suspicious. By the time I learn anything, there are already 100 comments discussing the news. 70 of them by GEAGLE.
Lol.
I noticed that. 90 % of the posts are from ” Geagle and German eagle. ” that’s funny. Iv’e even seen Geagle have a 5 post discussion with himself. LOL. Good guys.
As I read that, I just went to the fridge and opened a pin-o-grigi-o.
this has nothing to do with Tom or anything i saw on this site, but im beaten down by the atrocious level of eagles coverage today. its like everywhere i turned, stupidy, and even good sources are goimng to shit… i checked Phillymag, and an intern was “answering read questions” and completely botched trying to explain what the loss of Demeco meant this year, something i went in to detail yesterday, then i turn on the radio and its all about trading Foles to the titans to eventually get marriotta… then all the mocks continue to put LANDON cOLLINS with us,, I sat in an airport for 4 hours and so desperate for Eagles info, and every where I turnd, I found patjetic media reporting that I knew what I was hearing just wasn’t accurate… And Febuary just started…. This offseason is going to be unbearable, especially this month,,,
…
Don’t understand how the entire nation is obssessed with tbis game but it’s so hard to find an accurate Eagle convo or discussion this time of year,,,.i don’t even know where else to even check at this point besides this site,
…
Anyone on like Sirius radio that I don’t know about or a podcast where I can find info from someone who has some type of clue?
Iggles Blitz sorry just saw you said outside of here.
This just in the Eagles hire Bobby Petrino as a special assistant to the head coach.
