But what is going on with Sam Bradford? It sounds like any hope of a deal with Denver is dead. The Broncos traded up to draft Paxton Lynch, who will be their QB of the future. They don’t have a QB of the present. Some people point out Mark Sanchez is there, but I don’t see how the defending Super Bowl champs can put Sanchez on the field as their starter. I just can’t see that.
Denver could make a run at Brian Hoyer to be their stop-gap starter until Lynch is ready to go, likely in 2017. I’m sure they would love to have Bradford for this year, but can’t see them trading good resources for him at this point.
The Jets still need a QB and something could happen there.
That said, if you listen to everything the Eagles said, they expect Bradford to stay put and be the team’s starter this year. I’m not sure how wise that is after the trade demand, but we’ll see what happens. I’m sure there will be lots of rumors floating tomorrow during the day.

Fran Duffy and Greg Cosell did some great video pieces for PE.com on Carson Wentz. They aren’t archived yet so I can’t link to them.
They showed Wentz making pre-snap adjustments, good reads during plays and moving in the pocket. These are subtle, but crucial qualities for NFL QBs. You really need access to All-22 tape to see some of this stuff. We still don’t get much of that for prospects unfortunately so it was great to see Wentz broken down in that kind of detail. Really great pieces.
I still preferred Goff to him, but the stuff they showed did make me even more confident that Wentz can be a darn good NFL QB.
*****
I also enjoyed this Frank Reich interview on Wentz.
*****
In case you missed this, Dallas had significant interest in drafting Wentz at pick 4 if he was still on the board. The Eagles may have found their franchise QB and also blocked the Cowboys from finding theirs all at once.
That’s a heckuva 2-for-1 deal right there.
_
would be funny if sam went to denver now
only to demand to be traded after signing his contract.
[…] Tommy Lawlor The Eagles got their man by taking QB Carson Wentz. But what is going on with Sam Bradford? It […]
redskins got doctson, thats a nice add to their offense. hope they cut desean, id take him back
I hate that they grabbed him. I think he’s going to be really good. Tyler Boyd is another WR I think will be really good.
DeSean only needs around 3000 more receiving yards to be the Eagles all time leader. He could hit it if he comes back now.
Was actually thinking about Jackson and the Eagles. Not that i expect the Birds to ever have him again, but he seems to fit what Pederson is looking for in that he is grabbing deep threat WRs.
Im sure Pederson would love to have Jackson and McCoy. McCoy isnt a big back, but he is a good pass catching RB in which we can guess from Pedersons days in KC he likes. Of course he would also be the best back on the team. McCoy, Mathews, and Sproles would be a hell of a 3 headed monster.
Of course its always a possibility that if we still had Jackson and McCoy then we wouldnt have Pederson but still Chip.
was going to write a post about how it’s good that shady’s gone, but i’m too much of an eagles fan – wish he’d have retired here.
I really hate the Redskins for taking my favorite WR in this draft.
I didnt like him as much as I liked Odell but dam I think Doctson will be good. At least we have Rowe who has the size and atletisme to match him
I’m on record for this already, but I’m really happy we got Wentz over Goff.
Big day for Philly.
Who does every body want in the 3rd? OT, RB?
OT or Max Tuerk.
What if Tuerk was versitile enough to play tackle?!
He is
Left or right or is there REALLY a difference anymore?
Right with a chance to play left. Hard to really say for sure because he hasn’t done it since he was a freshman, but the feet and movement abiility is still there.
If you look at who is rushing from the right, there isnt really a difference.
Guys like JJ Watt and Von Miller mainly rushes from the right side
myles jack, let’s see how big this free fall is
O lineman.
Obviously, the highest rated guy out of those positions of need.
But man, I hope it’s an O lineman, and preferably a guy who play RG but eventually transition to RT.
I think that would be perfect. A guy who challenges (and eventually usurps) Barbre and Wiz at G, while waiting for Lane to move to LT and replace Peters.
RB or dt.
If mobidy sticks out as tremendous value trade down later in the 3rd and add a 4th round pick if possible. Its all about building around CW now and we need picks
I didn’t see much scouting on Mobidy. Is he that Division 2 fullback that keeps popping up?
Gotta go DT at #79….
Jack (impossible, right?) OT, MLB, DT
Wentz to Dallas would have made a lot of sense… Obviously the Eagles believed some other org would be interested in him, and left nothing in doubt by moving up to 2. I wonder if they had any inkling of the Cowboys’ interest..
I think this was all about Sam wanting to go to Denver and be the hero he thinks/dreams he can be by winning the SB there.
Now he’s looking at the Jets as the last realistic possibility, so I think he’s going to now turn around and say he’s OK with Philly and wants to compete for the job long-term (and he’ll be shown the door the first day after the 2016 season is over, no matter what).
The Jets 2nd rounder is looking like a good starting point.
Congrats Tommy on your good showing in the Huddle Report Mock Draft scoring. You beat Kempski too.
I think and hope this Bradford thing will blow over and he will be back. I’m glad Howie didn’t just cave and give him up for nothing. The Eagles will probably be better with Bradford next year and I prefer not rushing Wentz. Daniel can hang with Wentz on the sideline and point out everything Sam is doing wrong.
pssst… Carson… You see that face he made when he threw the incomplete pass? Not that face man… Not that face…
Bradford has suddenly become the Anti-Christ. It is really funny to see people turn on him so viciously. The guy and his agent made a business decision so he wouldn’t waste the best years of his career as a babysitter and now all sorts of negative personal things are being attributed to him. All we know is what his agent has said. If he personally goes on talk radio and starts whining, that’s a different thing. I think the whole thing is funny and incompetent all around. It does go to show that Bradford really never was any good and still isn’t.
Is everyone excited to see Ezekiel Elliot running behind the Cowboy’s line against the wide-9?
Yes. In a world with;
– a salary cap
– many other RBs who could run behind that line
– and a D in Dallas that will force them to have throw the ball a lot to keep up in games
They’re never going to get good value from picking Elliot 4th.
https://twitter.com/corryjoel/status/725847760964968450
https://twitter.com/corryjoel/status/725848167770550273
I can imagine Elliott having 2-3000 yards under his belt before our pick is getting his legs under him. I really hope I’m wrong and Corry is right.
I’m trying to see it as two different windows. The Cowboys just forced theirs to happen earlier, which may actually help us. In 4 years when we win the SB, Zeke will be on his last legs.
I’m trying to see it that way. Unfortunately, I also see Zeke as a fairly sure thing while Wentz is more of a gamble. I’ll say it again, I really hope I’m wrong.
The thing is, the potential pay out of Wentz is far higher than Zeke.
In my head I know you’re right. I just hate the thought of the frickin’ Cowboys having an Offensive trifecta with Romo, Bryant, and Elliott.
If Braford continues to whine or, as likely, gets hurt again, maybe Wentz rides in on a white stallion and proves himself able to play this year.
Romo is one bad hit away from retirement. The Cowboys first wanted Wentz then Lynch because they know he is one hit away
Hicks delivers.
Schwartz does not equal Castillo/Washburn. Did his Detroit/buffalo defenses suck v the run? Does he always use the wide 9 every play? And since when does our dl suck b the run? Cox et al automatically lose their skills? I ain’t scared.
You know Schwartz usually have top run defenses with his version of the wide 9?
Also that OL is hugely overrated imo.
Megan Fox gets me excited. Playing against Elliot twice a year is the pits.
Bradford’s reaction when he heard the Broncos drafted Lynch:
He even wears the red do-not-touch jersey sitting around the house, watching TV? Sounds about right.
Just like there was no market for Sammy Sticks in the offseason, there was no market for him on draft night…
Bradford really has two choices at this point: Show up, be a professional, and compete, or simply retire. There’s really nothing else. He could sulk and pout and be a “Bratford,” and maybe force the Eagles to release him at some point, but is that really the way he wants to go out of the league?
He’s got plenty of F you money, and given how he and his agent have played their hand thus far, I think there is at least some chance (30%?) that he hangs up the cleats. If he does, expect it to occur at the least opportune time for the Eagles organization.
Condon will convince him that returning to the Eagles is a great idea before he let his cash cow retire.
Good point
I get that Sanchez hate, but i have to say i think Sanchez is a better QB then Hoyer.
Bradford should just go full heel at this point, show in a Cowboys’ hat, and berate Eagles at training camp (e.g., yelling at them calling them fat, ugly drunk slobs).
You mean he should reveal he is really Charliegarner25?
And eaglesgameballs!
My favorite thing tonight was the people who booed Goeddel tonight with every single pick.
Even towards the end of the draft and it literally looked like their were a handful of people, they still booed him loudly. I’m still shocked that as many people watch this on TV that it is so sparsely populated by the end of the night.
Bears’ fans very loud and pronounced booing of their pick made me think of this classic video of Jets’ fans reactions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZxNeFLuY98
Ha÷!!! Yes indeed i was enjoying that
I think this has become a draft night tradition. Imagine the bboing if Philly hosts the draft.
I wouldn’t encouraging booing commissioners for the sake of booing but Goeddel is a worthy candidate.
It’s always okay to boo a douchebag
I noticed in the Reich interview, he referred to the offense as Doug Pederson’s offense at least twice. I thought it was noteworthy since he is the offensive coordinator.
If the Eagles had not been able to trade up to #2, would you have wanted Laremy Tunsil at #8?
Yes. That video was stupid, but he has exactly zero failed drug tests as a college player. He has exactly zero failed drug tests as an NFL player.
So he’s nowhere close to facing an NFL suspension, Jason Peters isn’t getting any younger or more willing to play 16 games at a high level, and we lack any clear long-term tackle opposite Lane.
Yes.
He a laffing stock now sfter that presser he was giving .. he’s a future shaun andrews just what he created on draft day .. it eill block his duccess .. nice miss on our part
Personally I would have, hard to say what Eagles would’ve done
If every football player who smoked pot in college didn’t get drafted we’d have a labor shortage. Tunsil just had the misfortune of someone sabotaging him on the big night. The real question for me is who’s the asshole who has it out for him? I’d have taken him in a heartbeat.
Didn’t the guy interviewing him, Sanders I think, mention it was his stepfather (presumably ex) but Tounsil said he didn’t know who it was (being smart enough not to go down that path and destroy his moment). Sanders had to bring up the elephant, but I am not sure why he needed to mention the stepfather unless it was to out the jerk.
There are some “brilliant” teams out there.
– San Diego took a 4-3 DE to play 3-4 OLB. Dumb
– Dallas threw the value of picking #4 into the trash can. See the tweets I posted from Joel Corry.
– The Titans took a guy who can’t pass block on an NFL level and is going to get outquicked on most run plays as well. I wouldn’t take Conklin at 58, let alone 08.
– The Giants took a workout warrior CB with little to no game awareness.
– The Lions took a tackle who has less punch than the Venus de Milo statue.
– Atlanta – REACH
– Buffalo – took a 4-3 DE to play OLB, didn’t they just go through this with Mario?
– Houston – Fuller can’t catch is a very low-character disloyal guy.
– Pittsburgh – REACH, and the guy doesn’t project into Pittsburgh’s system
– Denver – took a d-bag hipster who has just as much bad tape as good. See the Bucky Brooks article on Lynch for a good laugh.
– Green Bay – took a 4-3 DT to play in a 3-4.
– San Fran – took a 3rd round guard in the first round. We need a guard and I didn’t want that guy in the 3rd. let along in the late 20s.
– Arizona – Nkemdiche is an insane flake of a human being. If you saw the ESPN interview with him, you’d be horrified.
So I’ve got 13 of 31 picks as dumb.
Keanu Neal was very highly thought of amongst teams. He was a first ound lock. If Atlanta passed someone else was going to take him
Pretty high for a pure box safety who hits hard IMO.
quite high.
Not really.

44th over all
I think sime sites do a very good job with the scouting side, but are completely clueless when it comes to how teams view them. Tony Pauline and Gil Brandt have been saying Neal was a first rounder for over a month now. Those guys are connected.
I feel good about the picks of all 3 division opponents. GB has earned the benefit of the doubt. Much as I dislike Arians, he creates a locker room that should give Nkemdiche good support. Conklin at right tackle could work very well for Tenn. I wonder if SF moved into the first round just for the 5th year option on a lineman.
5th year option for a guard wouldn’t make sense. The option dollars would be pegged to OL as a whole (therefore LT) and would be more than any long term extension would pay him per year.
Good point. Head scratcher then, either they really liked him, were worried about someone like Seattle, or just had too many late round picks burning a hole in their pockets.
Little bit of all three I suppose. Just a weird projection from a scheme standpoint. Good player though.
It seems Kelly gets hyper focused on who he likes (rather than using tiers, he wants one specific person) and then gets worried that the person will be gone and panics.
He’s all about evaluation over valuation.
As long as you’re nailing your evaluation it works fine.
I think it would be quite outside the norm (and therefore a really bad bet) to ignore valuation for evaluation as a practice and be successful.
Possible. It’s likely Baalke is still running the show there, just with Kelly’s input. Can’t say it was a bad move, if you’re going to make a mistake on a lineman, it should be for a guy with a nasty streak.
they traded up for a guard, right? Baalke must have run to the bathroom and told Gamble and Chip not to do anything until he got back.
Think Kelly finally decided guards are vital to the run game?
maybe but my point was he overvalued guard and traded up b/c he wanted one particular player
The Gnats passing on Hargreaves for Apple was great. I posted a few days ago that the birds move up to second was not just to get their man, but to prevent the Cowpatties from getting him. I sensed that the moment Jerrah said Romo was good for the next 4-5 years. If he believes that the league should mandate drug testing for owners.
Boy you really have it all figured out don’t you? Pigeon hole much?
Lovely retort based on zero of your own views on any of the players.
The scary thing for Denver is that if Sanchez is their day 1 starter, you can guarantee that by week 4, the fanbase will be screaming to start Lynch. And starting Lynch this year, under SB expectations, no less, is the perfect way to erase any hope of him developing to his potential.
Vikings QB lost confidence in his receivers last season and hesitated on throwing to them. They drafted a guy who doesn’t run routes well and has concentration issues.
That should build the QB’s confidence
I read about halfway through the Nkemdiche story (I’ll finish it later) and the one thing that came up that’s come up in other places too (Reshard Mendenhall’s retirement for example) is how scared NFL people are of football players who display any outside intellectual interests. Kind of amusing.
But yeah Nkemdiche sounds like a spaz and a half. Should be entertaining to see where his career goes.
Eccentric sounds cool. Trafficking in large wild animals to keep as pets does not sound cool.
HATE seeing Doctson go to Skins.
Throw the 2 QBs at the top out………here are picks I really liked.
Jags – Ramsey at 5 is amazing. They need to leave him at safety. He’ll menace that who division for 10+ years. Bradley will really know what to do with him.
Ravens – Stanley is a flat out upgrade. Great pick.
Saints – Rankins will really get after a lot of people at the point of attack. Especially for a team that will play a lot of shootouts.
Dolphins – Tunsil doens’t have any failed drug tests and really helps fix some o-line issues in Miami.
Indy – Ryan Kelly absolutely improves that line. Fixing their issues at center and then outward was a great approach.
Vikings – Treadwell is the best WR in the draft. 40 times should not trump his game film. The guy has great hands and body control. He high points the football and already toe taps like a pro WR. Great addition for that team.
Cincy – Took a great CB prospect and forced the Steelers to take a much worse one.
Carolina – WOW. Butler is not only a great player, but an amazing low cost over 5 year hedge against Star moving on if they have to let him move on.
Seattle – Got a better o-lineman than Titans, Lions, and Niners……….who can start right away. Great work.
Regarding Jax, I think you give Gus too much credit right now.
The Ravens should have taken Tunsil imo. Stanley is not close to his level imo.
Vikings – I think Doctson is the best WR in the draft, but the top 4 can all be debated.
Starting next year as a LT, Stanley is better. In 3 years, maybe not.
Gase is playing Tunsil at Guard. What an idiot.
Stanley has more upside… And I’ll officially say that I think he will have a better pro career than Tunsil.
Thank you for not mentioning Elliott with the hated Cowboys. I think he’s going to be shredding Defenses for years to come.
Vikings pick has route running and concentration issues.
Ifedi isn’t better than Garnett or Decker
Sleep on it Sammy. Even Denver is drafting their quarterback of the future, so if that’s where you wanted to be you’ll be seeing Lynch. Nobody in their right mind will build around you, and you only with no foresight into the future. I know we’d probably do much better WITH you, but once a player says they don’t want to be an Eagle, I’m done with them. Even if this is all an “act” it doesn’t speak well to his leadership or a team-first mindset.
Can’t assume Denver takes Lynch if they had SB. Maybe they took Lynch because they didn’t have SB….
Can’t assume they wouldn’t either. Elway had Osweiller with Manning on his roster so I’m not sure why they wouldn’t. Even if it wasn’t Lynch, can’t convince me they wouldn’t take someone worth grooming.
Might not have had the ammo to get Lynch if they got Sam. I see this as a case of being able to sell an imperfect product. The mile high fans will be happy. The players may quit half way through the season though…lol… It will be a time to see the mental makeup of their defensive players.
Huge difference drafting a QB at #26 than at #2
My point is every team is going to draft your replacement eventually.
Agreed, just wanted to make clear there is a wide range of what defines “eventually” and how teams replace their current starter. The approach the Broncos took is way different than the Eagles; we’ll see which turns out to be better.
Every year, deep down I know that all mock drafts are BS, and yet every year I read every one of them. You’d think I’d learn but no.
Why do you read them?
I do because I don’t really follow minor league football, so I don’t know who these guys are. The better ones also give a sense of other clubs situations.
I don’t expect them to be accurate predictions, most writers don’t approach it that way either.
Right. But the fans who try to base arguments off of where people were projected really piss me off. Cue the Marcus Smith conversations, et al…. Not saying Smith was a great pick, but people like to cite mock drafts as reasoning for their opinions which is just garbage logic.
they’re a jumping off point. i use them to start looking at players. but for some reason i was way less interested in them this year. maybe it was us having two picks in the first four rounds
Well put.
Mock drafts, no. They’re hard to use because you have writers trying to be all 32 teams at once.
Existing big boards / player rankings are quite appropriate.
Smith was a complete and total reach at 26.

61st overall
And he’s a guy who I really liked. I hoped we could get him towards the end of the 2nd round or into the 3rd.
No no no. You are taking media talking heads as the gospel but they are not objective nor reliablly accurate at all. That’s not what teams felt, that’s what those media sources felt. Citing them is foolish.
Yes Yes Yes…………….unless you can get me his median place on all 32 teams draft boards so we can see how much of a reach he was or wasn’t. I cannot just trust a team’s valuation of a guy absent any criticism using available rankings of that player.
What you cannot do specifically is accept that there are some things we cannot know accurately. Your grasping at weak straws but you could just accept that we don’t know rather than cite an objectively poor measure.
You’re correct in that I’ll accept taking somebody else’s word for things unless they can specifically contradict the existing information on the subject.
If I’m trying to get a house appraised, I can’t tell the appraiser to value it over the existing comps for that house. If some nut wants to pay well over the value of the house, he’s welcome to do it. But he’ll never get approved for a mortgage for that amount. If the Eagles wanted to pay well over market value for Smith given all of the existing evaluation of Smith, they have to be prepared to be questioned on it. And when nobody can produce information saying he was worth the pick at 26, you can’t say he wasn’t a reach.
There were reports that washington would have taken him a few picks later which are just as valid as what you’re sighting.
2 reaches vs. 30 more prudent uses of resources doesn’t justify the reach.
Again, get me his median place on the boards of all 32 teams and I can have my position changed.
You’re incorrigible
That is true.
It’s dumb to repeatedly return to data that general consensus says is historically terribly inaccurate.
Provide better. Please. I’d love to use a different set of information to more accurately judge if a team reached or not. But I refuse to just allow these teams to take whoever they want without any outside judgment in relation to if that is a guy they still could have acquired while also trading down or taking in a later round.
You are chasing a unicorn.
You are demanding to obtain something that cannot exist. Get over it.
There is nothing to get over. Boards for all 32 teams exist. The league should release them in a team-identifying blind manner after the draft and let us all judge.
So I’ll maintain he was a reach until something concrete that says he wasn’t is offered.
It makes about as much sense as an Academy Awards show for movies that haven’t haven’t come out yet. Yeah, I watch it too, and wake up the next morning how I let the pig at the bar come home with me.
Didn’t matter to me which QB. Nobody can predict the future and neither is a lock to be anything special. The good news is, we know who the QB’s are for the next 4 years. That’s a good feeling to have and it’s been a long time since we’ve had that comfort. No more “what if’s” for a few more years. The team can concentrate on other areas. Does suck we have to wait over a year to see the new xmas toy. Hoping he’s worth the wait….

As much as players say they want to win and be the man, they usually give in and take the money.
Just human nature, I guess.
Sam will be back and say all the right things. Maybe he’ll blame his agent (or fire him; he did already get paid).
silver linings:
Murray didn’t work out for us, but Eagles signing him led to the Cowboys using the overall 4 pick on a RB.
We gave up a lot to move to 2, and we weren’t able to get good value from Denver for SB, but both of these resulted in QB’s (Wentz and Lynch) being kept from Cowboys who really could have used a future QB.
overall I think things went pretty well for the Eagles.
Chip would have traded SB for a conditional 7th.
“Chip would have traded …”
————-
Kelly would have squated on Bradford until training camp then cut him.
Value means nothing to that guy.
They weren’t going to pay Demarco all that nobey. Now they get a cheap RB who wears a short shirt. Let them have that faggit
This is likely the only upvote you’ll ever receive from me.
You’re upvoting a bigot and troll? *shakes head*
Is it strange that I thought this was a nice description?
Go get some coffee. It’s the internet.
Ignore him like the rest of us, the guy is only here to stir the pot. Common decency is valid for the internet just like anywhere else. That is one reason why this board is the best around for Eagles talk.
Being on the internet is not a reason to call people “faggit”.
You’re right. I’m sure you have never called someone a name. When did we get so fucking sensitive about someone talking about a DAMN DALLAS COWBOY. Take a nap soldier!
And a smoothie.
Looks like Fran posted those All-22 videos here Tommy: http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/search-results?q=All-22+Wentz&Go.x=0&Go.y=0
These are pretty great.
EVERYONE WATCH THEM!
WENTZ!
what are the chances Wentz beats out SB in training camp?
Zero
that would be amazing but not as amazing as shipping him out for literally anything
Very little, as I think if he is close with the other two they will err on the side of patience.
Very little. The Eagles would still like to recoup something for Sam. Wentz would have to come in and be be the GOAT to beat out an established lower tier starting QB immediately. Realistically if Wentz is way ahead of where they expected, he’ll sit until Bradford gets snapped in half, Bradford plays poorly enough that we’re out of contention (and Bradford has no value)
Or dream scenario that a contender has an injury at QB and trades for Bradford like with Palmer to the Raiders a few years back.
I was right again. I predicted Wentz when Tommy Gunn was pushing Goff. Score one for the gripper. #MakeAmericaGreatAgain
Watched the Gruden QB camp with Wentz and came away impressed. I still think it’s a risky pick due to the jump in competition and his relatively slim resume as a college starter, but he’s clearly very smart and he came across as a high-character guy who loves the game and will work hard to improve. I’m glad he’s coming to a team where he won’t have to start right away because a year learning to play against NFL competition without the pressure of having to save a failing franchise is likely to really benefit him.
I watched that too last night and I was impressed, but honestly I’ve never seen any other Gruden camp show so nothing to compare it to.
I’ve seen a few. Always the same.
I see it’s online free time at the state hospital again.
So they let you out. So much for original thought
when someone says they will not post here if SB is the qb and then continues to post.. #trolllife
Nobody took the bet
I think Pederson and Howie will stick to the script and have Wentz sit behind Bwaaadford and/or Daniel for at least the first half of the year (hopefully the whole year or as long as he needs). Pederson went thru this with McNabb so he experienced this and knows it “works.”
I’m thinking this is going to be a ball-control offense (dink and dunk) with an aggressive defense. So when Wentz does get the nod, he and the offense won’t be needed (theoretically) to put up 28-31 points a game to win. He will need to protect the ball and “end each drive with a kick.”
If he grows into a stud QB in 3-4 years, then the offense can change to fit what he’s become.
Monkey wrench aside, it seems pretty clear that the master plan is to have him sit and learn. Too easy to develop bad habits/stunt development when rushed.
Where can I get my, “If not now, Wentz” tee shirt?
Maybe, “Howie Wentz all in”
Mate, this line is awesome. Might wanna copyright it quick!
We Wentz to the Super Bowl
(and won)
I Wentz it up my bunghole for all the gay eagles fans
Since 1995, a total of 53 quarterbacks have been 1st Round picks.
Of those 53, only 4 never started a single game their entire rookie seasons:
*Steve McNair
*Carson Palmer
*Phillip Rivers
*Aaron Rodgers
For what it’s worth.
Man, they sucked as rookies!
For the data to be close to meaningful, we’d need to know a counterfactual – how many of the other 49 would have been good to great QBs if they hadn’t played their first year. Maybe it was 0. Maybe it was 40. We’ll never know.
Beyond that, there are so many other circumstances that impact the outcome. It’s really difficult to do good science – just ask the scientists embroiled in the replication crises in psychology and medicine. And without good science underlying statistics, the statistics are about as useful as measuring the angle between Mars and your zodiac sign to predict how your day is going to go. I can do all sorts of statistical analyses and build a very impressive sounding databases, but in the end, it’s all BS.
Here’s what we know — without venturing into hypotheticals.
The only 4 QBs taken in Rd 1 in the past 20 years who didn’t start a game all turned out great.
I can’t worry about what may have happened to the other 49 if they hadn’t played.
Hence, the “FWIW” at the end.
Bill, Bill, Bill. It’s extremely meaningful if not only for the fact that it shows the odds favor that we will see Carson Wentz playing on Sunday at least once this year.
You implied what you wished from the names.
Kind of torn…Wentz has slowly grown on me the more I’ve watched him. Still not completely sold on him, considering what we gave up to get him. But, definitely feel better about the pick than I did a week ago.
There’s an alternate universe, however, that exists somewhere in which we stayed put at 13, drafted Laremy Tunsil and his gas-mask bong (and if you really want to go crazy perhaps in this alternate universe we were able to use our 2 thirds, Kiko, Maxwell and Murray to trade into the second and take Jack).
Tough to decide, obviously without the benefit of hindsight, if you’d still make this trade had we known that Tunsil would still be there at 13. Tunsil and Jack, plus our first next year and our 2018 2nd or Wentz, whoever we draft in the 3rd round this year and no 1st next year and no 2nd in 2018.
This could work out a million ways, but Wentz has to be pretty damn good in any scenario that makes this a winning trade for us.
It seems odd to me that a team whose OL has been trash for 2 years and has suffered from it hasn’t really devoted prime assets to address it.
Still looking for a late round guard, need a tackle, which i feel like they don’t want to get b/c of JP, still need a primary WR. Skins receiving corps is going to be a little crazy.
Couldn’t agree more. We could have stayed at 14 and gotten Tunsil and still hold all of our picks.
Why in the world do you ppl want Tunsil after yesterday?? Let’s the Dolphins deal with him!
which part of yesterday? The pot I can deal with, the NCAA infractions are dumber to me unless he had a great explanation, also stuff w/ his step dad is weird as well.
I’m a pothead so I’m not going to condemn him for smoking a bong but the whole thing – the hacked account, the picture, the NCAA infractions, the step-dad stuff – screams risk to me.
don’t blame the victim.
You mean traded back?
you know what else we have suffered from? bad QB play
I hate Skins picked up Doctson….at very least they have a potentially dominate Red Zone threat this year to go along with apples on outside in DJax, Reed and Garçon.
not sold?
too late the deal is done go get your jersey, we are nfccg bound. in a couple
Honestly don’t know I want want Jack. The fact he fell out of the first round to me says his knee is A LOT worse than we know.
Im good to pass on Jack. 1 injury prone MLB is enough for me.
He has to be a top 10 QB or it was a dumb trade.
Hoping for top 5 is reasonable.
Bradford needs to grow up. He has an amazing opportunity as the already established starting QB of the Eagles. His future is entirely in his hands. If he plays amazingly the Eagles will surely keep him starting so they can groom Wentz on the bench. Even if he plays very well he can find a new fantastic contract in a new city when the season is done. But instead he’s destroying his reputation in the league. Remember, we’re talking about a guy who had one of the lowest QBR’s last year – a first pick bust who got swapped for Nick Foles! But instead of appreciating this he’s whining because the Eagles aren’t putting all their eggs in his basket. Someone needs to smack him in the face.
“Even if he plays very well he can find a new fantastic contract in a new city when the season is done.”
Not many teams need a QB.
especially one who has mental issues
If that hurts his ability to get a contract somewhere else it’s entirely on him and not Howie.
where else? Fitz has a great year and is struggling to get $7m from the jets and he’s got literally nowhere else to go. Hoyer sucks too but he’s unemployed after having his best year ever. Nick Foles is basically out of the league. Think a year or two ago the market for re-tread QBs was great, it’s not anymore.
He has an amazing opportunity to get himself hurt.
He can just be a pain in the but and still get 22 million. That’s an amazing opportunity
Tunsil admitted he was paid by coaches. This dude is super dumb.
And he sounded savvy and articulate when he talked to Deion after the pick was made. Strange.
he wasn’t stoned at the time
I thought the same thing when I listened to him talk to Dieon. I mean, for some people its just plain hard to lie.
He’s out of college, what does it matter to him? not sure how this has any bearing on his pro career.
Means they’re going to investigate it and talk about it, they won’t suspend him in the pros, but it’s so clearly wrong that it makes me not trust his judgment. Though i can’t believe i’m saying that b/c i have no issue with Cam or Reggie bush, etc. Just feels like it shouldn’t be news.
Think he would have said nothing if the texts did not come out on his instagram. He was managing his own situation and wanted to be honest and open and that is the best response. I feel sorry for some of the kids at Ole Miss who will loose their scholarships and bowl chances due to the inevitable punishment but frankly the NCAA and their rules are an abomination that i think is unethical and purely self serving, so i will never complain about talented players who are making their schools and the NCAA thousands of dollars taking a few bucks to help them get through college.
So the Broncos spent a 1st and 3rd rounder on Lynch. I think they would have been better off with Bradford.
I thought the same thing. I only think there window is so big with that current defense, and Paxton definitely will need some developing. Although they may just start him over Sanchez this year and let him learn on the job.
Elway bad decisions seem to be snow balling on him
Pretty hard to question him right this second.
he also matched the offer sheet for CJ Anderson HAHAHAHAHA
Not if you include salaries
It’s going to suck to watching the 2nd round this year. Thanks Chip.
Told ya so
it’s gonna be crazy if the Jaguars start this draft by snatching up Jalen Ramsey AND myles Jack in the first 2 rounds. My two favourite players in this whole draft..
Hoping we make a trade to get another 3rd or 4th at some point. Really want us to come out of this draft with a solid LB, DT, S/CB and Olineman
I have to wonder if when Baalke made the pick chip was like, “hey do whatever you want man.”
he finally gets a duck that is actually talented and its in San Fran…
As fascinating as the “let’s mostly draft Ducks” strategy is I’m happy it’s being executed on someone else’s team.
Rebuilding that Dline with Ducks…have both Buck and Armstead
Chip just continuing his vision to build a Pac all star team
Anyone down with Barwin and our 3rd (or just our 5th if we’re lucky) to move up into the mid 2nd? I’d like for Barwin to get us a 2nd himself but I don’t think it’s happening. There are some STUDS still available: Jack, Spriggs, Shepard, Hargrave, Whitehair, Henry, Dixon.
Whitehair didn’t go last night? Yeah don’t have much draft ammo, would be nice to make that move. Our roster is a little wack, unless we could move Mathews. Maybe Marcus Smith II?
Yeah he is still available. MSII has zero value, and a high contract for his performance. And anyone we would be trading Mathews to would just take one of the RBs that are younger and not so injury-prone. Plus if we traded Mathews for a non-RB, we would be leaving ourself with a huge hole and no draft ammo until the 5th.
gotta see him under the Schwartz first
Barwin ain’t going nowhere.
I know. Just throwing “what if” scenarios. Nothing else to talk about. And those players still sitting in round 2 are nice because of all the reaches last night.
Trading Barwin makes us paper thin at DE meaning we would then have to spend another pick to try to replace some of his production. DE 3 is gonna see alot of snaps this year.
Who has primary run stopping responsibilities under Schwartz? Is it our secondary, is Elliot going to run all over us?
Safeties have a slightly different run fit. That’s about it.
I don’t love the wide 9 but I feel much more comfortable having the creator running it than a DL disciple and OL coach.
Sounds like a Horrendous idea to me..
Interesting that the Comcast network had the Astros drafting @ 22, guess they finally gave up on baseball.
I did a double take on that one and laughed really hard. My wife asked what was so funny.
What position is Giles playing?
I Wentz to get an Asian massage
She wentz me to send her a dick pic
Cowherd’s take, thought it was interesting
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rb_nrBk6Bc
I liked the sneaky George Carlin reference at least.
She wentz it bad
No time like the p-Wentz-it
Greg Cosell at about the 2:15 mark, “In fact, he made such a great throw that his receiver couldn’t catch it.”
http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/videos/videos/All22_Wentzs_Pocket_Poise/3a25e0c7-46e3-4761-9246-dd61baad3881
Sounds a lot like sam last year.
Sounds Yogi Berra-ish.
That is exactly what it sounds like. Good call.
I Wentz to get drunk and screw
The Eagles really seem to be emphasizing Wentz’s maturity, and maturity is good, but he’s also older than the other guys so one wonders if that has something to do with it. He is two years older than Goff: he is supposed to be more mature.
he’s no brandon weeden at least.
she has a great personality
Don’t be surprised if Wentz ‘outplays’ all the other QBs and starts Week 1 vs the Browns.
Why?
Why not?
I can’t see the Bradford drama resolving itself and I don’t think they want Daniel’s escalators to kick in should he be promoted to start.
Also if Wentz is mentally ready why not plug him in from week 1. The Eagles weren’t considered serious playoff contenders this year any way.
All right, that’s reasonable, just didn’t know where you were coming from. I would think Bradford would still start for half the year once this all blows over. Unless it doesn’t blow over…
Don’t get me wrong. I would prefer this SammyGate mess to go away and let him start this year to at least make the playoffs again. But currently I just don’t see this happening.
Think you are overestimating his leverage, and SAM is simply following his agents playbook… Doubt this drama lasts much longer. I think he will be back in novacare in the near future way before it becomes mandatory… Once the reality of his situation sinks in for SAM and Condon, their best move will be to start preparing to have his best season possible… But we’ll see…
..
Just because his agent thought he could pull this off, don’t expect Bradford to go all “Terrell Owens” at Novacare. A lot has been said, but none of it came from Sams mouth, all he did was go Dark for a week, don’t think any bridges have been burnt or anything too serious
..
I prefer us not dealing with this drama, but on the other hand I don’t hate that we rattled Sams cage a bit. Til now, he has been given Everything and it hasn’t led to realizing his full potential. Curious to see how putting him in a position Where he has to compete for his Job and his future effect his 2016 season. Sink or swim time for Sammy boy, especially after he comes to the realization of how little market there was for his services this offseason after he actually got thru a season
But how about those rude Eagles fans?!
The only thing that is probably in everyone’s favour is that that the start of the season is still 4 months away.
You are an idiot. I. Will bet you anything this never happens
Go on then.
That’s what MMQB seems to think, but getting carried away with crazy expectations Probably does a diservice to the kid, I prefer to assume it will be a redshirt year and if we later find out he is some QB prodigy. GREAT!
..
Doubt they are paying SAM all this money to throw the rookie on the field week 1. If that was the case I would think we would take the best lowball offer we can get This weekend which does not seem to be the case….7 days from now, I’ll be surprised if Sam ISNT back at Novacare..
..
Think its a little early to get so carried away with week 1 talk..
D3FB last night you said that most (all?) schools pay their football players. Can you expand on what you think happens? you really think the top (x – 20? 50?) teams have boosters who what, pay the players for jobs they don’t do or pay the players to commit to the school?
If this were so common, I would think some Spotlight type investigative articles would be out, it’s way too many people involved to keep secret.
often times the best hiding spot is right in the open lol
Read this http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/4/10/5594348/college-football-bag-man-interview
It’s super common
It’s more that everybody does it and everybody turns their heads the other way. You do it through intermediaries.
It’s nothing crazy. For example I have a buddy who was a 4 star. Comes from very tough financial circumstances. Then after he got to college a year in I was in the gym with him and he was looking into getting a car. Nothing fancy, I think it was like a 8 year old SUV with like 60k miles on it. Again nothing that would send red flags up but for a guy who lives in the rough part of town suddenly getting a 10k car.
Here’s a really good post on it by a guy who was one of the “bag men”
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/4/10/5594348/college-football-bag-man-interview
Great linked article ☺
good article. Doesn’t seem like what I would do if I had 20k extra a year.
Did you know?!
The Phillies have swept the Nationals in Washington for the first time since 2009?!
Now some OG in rd three.
…
Think there could be some really good DT talent there in the 3rd round and i think it is a bigger need than fans think. Even if we keep Cox/Logan we need a nice deep rotation and we have no other players you can project as effective 1 gap penetrative rushers inside.
If there is a good Tackle prospect the team likes i can accept going after a long term solution at that spot. Take a guard in the 5th to be depth/competition long term and address OG again next year if you still need talent at LG.
OG seemed to be a big big problem. They play for a long time so thought time to restock. Get some DT maybe next year or 5th and 6th round. Grab a tweener at pass rushing dt.
or LB.
Hicks and Kendricks? Already deep.
Hicks and Kendricks have missed time due to injury. Hopefully not a trend but you cannot ignore. There is absolutely no depth at LB. Goode and…. and…
They can bring Acho back if necessary.
Meh. Hope Tulloch gets cut and agrees to come here on the cheap to backup.
Wasn’t he cut already?!
Nope, still with the Lions.
DT is going to be our round 3 pick IMO…
Would be funny if they ended up with Myles Jack falling to them in the 3rd. Now that I say that, he’ll be the 1st player taken tonight.
Booo. Thanks for jinxing it.
Or did I nullify by mentioning him going first? Hmmmmm…
The next pick has to be a interior pass rushing Backüp 3technique Defensive tackle. It HAS to be! And there is really no point in worrying about the other positions until we get a DT and an OT…. After we go DT in round 3, we gotta take another DT in round 7. Need to replace ALL our backüp DTs…
Need a guard in my mind. But agree DL or Guard. Can’t believe we only have one pick today.
Or we trade it away for a 2017 2nd rounder……….
We have about 5 needs that are more important than Guard IMO:
DT #1 need
OT
Need a LB who ideally comes with Middle and Strongside versatility
RB
And backüp Safety
..
Think Gardner, Brooks and Wiz are all better than the Guards who played last year. Out of Brooks, wiz, Gardner, Bunche, Barbie and Turnstile Tobin, we should have 2 or 3 players who provide clear upgrades to last season… I’d rather find out exactly what we have with guys like Bunche and Gardner before we go invest in Guards…obviously Id love to get talent at Guard and every other position, but have to make the most of the picks we have, and prioritize. Think we can wait a year to spend a pick on a G, hopefully we get lucky with Undrafted Guard talent..
..
Think Guard and CB are needs that will have to wait Til next year, which gives us a year to figure out exactly what we have at that position with young kids like Bunche, JaCorey, Denzel Rice, Rowe… Hopefully we can find an Undrafted Gem at one of those spots…. Brandon Brooks is going to be a stud Guard for us. We need 1 of 5 Guards to step up. I like our odds, and Wiz is starting Caliber Pro as a temporary safety net
If you seem to recall, seeing what we have at Guard is exactly what caused problems for us last year.
Think Gardner was our best Guard, and he got hurt as soon as the season started….we get him back, Gardner and Brooks and Wiz are clear upgrades to Tobin and Barbie. Brooks is a stud, and Wiz is a more credible starter than anything we had last year.. We also have some young players like Bunche, and young players who put in work tend to improve,
…
Shit, Id love to be able to dump a first round pick into a guard, but we are limited because of the Trade.
..
Btw, the Eagles are going to draft a OT, odds are he will come with Guard versatility as well….
Gardner did win the position, but he wasn’t a world-beater. He was adequately average and given who he was competing against, that is an extremely low bar. I do hope Brooks pans out but we will see. I am optimistic and hope he’s the answer at RG. The Eagles haven’t had any undrafted OL emerge since the days of Juan Castillo. I just don’t have the same confidence in Stoutland as I did in Castillo so I completely disregard the likes of Bunche and Boyko, etc. IMO, the Eagles need legitimate prospects earlier rather than later for the OL.
Think Brooks will go on to be one of the best free agent additions of the last few years,, I never even imagined the Texans allowing him to become a free agent. Getting him for me is easily one of the most exciting additions of this offseason. My expectation is Lane and Brooks are going to form one of the Nasiest G/T tandems in the game, and Brooks should be a Godsend for Kelce..
..
I don’t love that Wiz has been a center the past few years, but he wasn’t Some undersized center, so I expect him to handle going back to his rookie position(Guard) pretty well, especially since the dude as motivated as it gets, feeling disrespected that he has been a solid starting pro for years and is still being forced to earn a legit extension and some security. Doubt a 5th round rookie Guard would win the job any way
Wisniewski is a band-aid. He is on a 1-year deal and is probably looking to cash in on this prove-it contract to get himself his last long-term deal. He’s already 27. Peters has 1 year left, if he can stay healthy for it. Lane will switch to LT. Projecting ahead to next season, Lane-?-Kelce-Brooks-?. There is no good young prospect coming down the pipeline until they invest early. This is why, all things being equal, I believe the eagles will look at OL or LB in the 3rd round.
I definitely want to draft our future right tackle this year but in fairness, evan mathis came here as a one year band aid himself
If he ends up performing really well and decides to stick around, then that would be ideal, yes. Still need that RT, like you said.
We could use talent at every position with the exception of QB and TE. If we haven’t noticed we don’t have an ideal amount of picks this year. It’s more urgent that we get a OT. Probably a decent chance that the OT we draft is cable of playing Guard. Unfortunately we won’t be able to address all our needs in this draft
I still say so much of our OL problems were based on Chips scheme. They never did anything to help their interior offensive line if they were struggling. Leaving your backup G (who is probably a weak backup) 1v1 vs Suh/McCoy with no support is madness. Schematically they never adjusted to protect their OL. in 2013 with the line fit and playing at an elite level there was no weak point to exploit, but as soon as our interior line got weakened opposing D coordinators went to town attacking up the middle to disrupt the run game and basically shut down the entire offence. Our pass defense was ‘fine’ in 2015, our run game could not get going north to south and that destroyed Murray’s ability to run effectively.
Doug/Andy/West Coast offences have a range of tools to help protect an offensive lineman who is over matched in some match ups and is specifically designed to replace some run production with passes to help mitigate and slow down run defense. I think we will be ‘fine’ in 2016. Do we need RT and LG of the future? for sure but that can happen in 2016 draft, 2017 FA, 2017 draft or a player emerging as a quality starter.
you could delete OL from that first sentence.
There is always a possibly that say we get to a round 7 pick, and Guard with a 5th round grade is still available, in that case, pull the trigger even if we have a bigger need somewhere else
I’d rather use the pick on someone that projects to be a future RT but is capable of sliding inside to guard this year if necessary. Kill two birds with one pick.
“Kill two birds with one pick”—-No pun intended?
There is no reason to draft based on position. Just take the best player available out of the many positions we could use depth at. There will be a DT available later if necessary.
Yup, lucky for us we are in a draft where there will probably a DT near the top of the board Everytime we pick. Im expecting to draft a DT tonight and tomorrow, but we’ll see…
I think you’re overstating the need for DT. We definitely could use another one. No doubt. But remember that on passing downs, I fully expect Curry to move inside and lineup Barwin, Curry, Cox, Graham.
“We def could use another one”???
Talk about an understatement..
.
1) don’t have a single player on this roster that can be counted on to backup Cox at 3Tec…..what other position can you say that about. cox is only 3tec on our Roster.
.
2) we need all new backups at DT because of scheme change
..
3) pointless to hire Schwartz if you aren’t going to build him one of the top DL’s in the game, 4 deep at DE and DT rotating in each game.
.
4) all the other backups we can draft DONT play unless starter gets hurt, backüp DT needs to play even when starters are healthy
.
5) Cox is the only above average interior pass rushing DT we have which isn’t enough for a Schwartz defense, the rest are more run stuffers than pass rushers
…
Even if we go DT at 79 we won’t be done building that position for the scheme change….just look at the Panthers. Two starting Studs at DT and they still invested their first round pick in the position…
..
I wish it wasn’t this much of a need, unfortunately we can’t assume practice Squad kids like Raciti can play.
How could the words “we definitely need another one” be an understatement that we, in fact, need another one?
The only disagreement we have is if we MUST get one at 79. I almost hope we do just to not have to hear your constant whining for months after if we don’t.
Ok when you feel the need to talk shit for no apparent reason, that’s when I check out. Enjoy your draft kind sir
You can say the same thing about the LB corp. We can’t assume Hicks or Kendricks stay on the field the whole year. We can’t count on Long, Hepburn, Skinner, and Goode.
You could also say the same about safety unless you’re excited about the prospect of Ed Reynolds patrolling the back end.
Ha! You could say the same thing about RB. Ryan is injury-prone, Sproles isn’t a work-horse back, and Barner is………. Barner.
I’m hoping for a long snap specialist. Dorenbos isn’t getting any younger.
As for our division, im going to cheer for Every Dallas pick that isn’t spent on a DE and DB, and Cheer every Giant pick that isn’t a OL!
Dallas is trying to get CLE’s 2nd. What/Who do you think they are trying to get?
Lynch. Jerry Jones fell asleep before the 1st round ended.
pass rusher
GE’s beer count at Friday lunch time: #4
its killing me that we don’t have a 2nd. so much talent seems to have dropped.
Mate. Just wait until the first round in Philly next year. 😉
hahaha oh man that hurts a lil
Lol a little lot!
Lol A$$!
Yep. The missing 2nd rounder in 2018 won’t feel as bad after that.
would be great if Wentz asked Sammy for # 7
Think star ship #7 should be retired..
No!!!
The history of No. 11 among Eagles QBs . . .
BEST:
* Norm Van Brocklin, ’57-’60. Won the Eagles last NFL title.
* Tommy Thompson, ’40-’50. Won the Eagles other 2 NFL titles.
WORST:
* Rick Arrington, ’70-’72.
Best career start: 3 for 10, 16 yds, 0 TD, 3 INTS (1 rtd for TD)
In between . . .
*John Walton (dazzled on road in Dallas in ’79 MNF tilt won by Birds)
*Trent Edwards (forgettable)
*Tim Hasselbeck (ditto)
*Jay Fiedler (ditto)
*Mark Rypien (double ditto)
would be hilarious if he took no. 7.
totally right about that
How come #11 wasn’t retired, with 3 NFL titles to it, there’d be reason to.
Is it a more recent thing to do, reserved for more recent players?
Jeffrey Lurie.
Pre-Midnight Green Eagles — except for Reggie White — are ghosts to him, I think.
Kinda like the Vet. Sure it was a dump.
But opponents hated it. And so did Lurie.
There was owners before Lurie.
Norm might be the best QB the Eagles ever have had and between him and Otto Graham for best QBs of their era
Anders . . .
You’re right, of course.
There were 4 owners before Lurie.
Retiring numbers, though, has become more commonplace in the past 20-25 years.
(Seems like Rings of Honor have sprung up all over the NFL.)
That’s the premise of my comment.
I think Lurie isnt as concerned with anything Eagles related before his time is because 99% of the fans do not care.
Outside of Bednarik, nobody really remembers early Eagles players anymore.
People always talk of Reid and McNabb as the the best coach and QB in Eagles history when I think Greasy Neale and Norm are the two best for many reasons.
You’re probably right.
And that’s too bad . . .
The whole not knowing history and being doomed to repeat it thing.
from Andy Benoit:
If you think Sam Bradford is peeved now, wait for when the end of training camp rolls around and new head coach Doug Pederson names Wentz his starter. If you talk to Wentz and study him closely, you’ll have a very difficult time envisioning him learning from the bench as a rookie. There’d be no point in sitting the 23-year-old. As Jon Gruden, Mike Mayock, Greg Cosell and countless others inside the NFL have said: This is the most pro-ready QB to enter the league since Andrew Luck. Keep in mind, Bradford has been a middling NFL quarterback and will be learning a mostly new system just like Wentz will. This will begin as an inherently equal QB competition. And all ties would go to the youngster
Good, I hope Bradford pouts his way into massive amounts of fines.
All of those guys literally don’t know dick, the whole complex is to yeast QBs up so they go in the top of the draft b/c people love that come draft time. Wentz may be good mentally, though is he better than Winston? Does he have a better arm than Mariota? He’s got mechanical issues and has just never played against the level of talent or had to make full field reads. Yes he could have intangibles to help you win games but i doubt you’d see that in september.
Wow, this is some idiotic writing.
“Countless others inside the NFL” have said he’s the most pro-ready QB since Luck? Hyperbole much? Did Benoit have an accident and lose some of his fingers? Does that mean “infinite commentors” have said Goff was the pro-ready?
Benoit sees no benefit from him sitting and watching? Really? It didn’t help the guys who did it, or hurt the parade of highly-touted prospects who got ground into the dirt as young players? Putting a rook behind a porous OL and with shitty receivers isn’t going to bother the young man?
I mean going from East Bumble__k to the NFL is no big deal at all? Bradford who’s actually played QB in the NFL for two different teams, and won the pre-season championship won’t have advantage in the early stages?
Sheesh!!
all ties go to the one not acting like a bitch
a million upvotes
SB’s been such a bitch you have to put another word in front of it.
“mark-ass?” i’d say “mark-ass bitch” covers it
Pederson wants there to be zero pressure and zero expectations of Wentz starting any game this year. He has accomplished that. But I hope that if Wentz exceeds expectations in learning the system and in the preseason, that Pederson is at least open to the idea of Wentz starting game 1, even if Pederson only mentions this to a few other coaches. Wilson had no pressure to start game 1 but just out performed the other QBs so was correctly allowed to start.
But the other QBs were nobodies, even if they were well compensated nobodies. Wilson also took his team to the rose bowl and almost beat the ducks.
lot of money to declare him to be on the bench. Doubt that’s happening…
Andy Benoit is wrong a lot.
san Bradford sucks a lot
He needs to learn the system, terminology, etc. etc. Expect Bradford to be benched right after the bye week.
Re: Wentz/Favre comparisons.
Hopefully it’s not a package deal that includes opiod addiction, the all time interception record, sending dick picks to sideline reporters and sexual harassment claims by team masseuses.
Wentz loves Jesus wayyyyy too much for that.
cuz that’s stopped every christian before
almost makes it more likely.
I was just taking communion by myself for on a Tuesday night for three hours, officer. That’s how many drinks I’ve had.
sir your blood of christ level is twice the legal limit. we’re talking tebowian levels here
“only god can judge me”
Cue Karl Marx . . .
On religion and opiods.
yessssssssssss
uh oh
If Wentz doesn’t succeed that will be one of the questions: “Did Pederson fall in love with Wentz because of their mutual love of Jesus?”
Pederson is to Evangelicals as Andy is to Mormons?
At least they aren’t Scientologists.
But the tattoo is kind of creepy in a cultish way
http://www.inforum.com/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/wrist.jpg?itok=MKV8wLL4
who gets tattoos?
People in the military. Apparently you can have one on your neck and still serve.
people who drink
still beats an #oregonbias
So he’ll be sending those photos to underage folks and/or dudes under bathroom stall walls?
NFL Network’s Mike Silver reports the Rams “would also listen” to trade offers for Case Keenum, in addition to Nick Foles. As i’m reading it Foles has less of a market than Bradford. Wonder if LA would love to dump both those fools and grab Hoyer to be a backup.
A —
You think Goff’s a Day 1 starter?
Hoyer’d be a great bridge / backup QB.
excellent call
I think they will start him day 1. Hoyer puts 0 asses in seats in california. An unfortunately for him his last game was choke city which i think is still in people’s (fans’) minds. You also dumped a ton of assets to get the kid from Cali so from a business decision feels like you have to start him.
Dr. James Andrews told UCLA LB Myles Jack he will not need microfracture surgery.
Welp, looks like Cleveland will have themselves an LB to start tonight.
Bastard needed to wait until right after pick 78 to announce that.
Really, he told him today? That doesn’t seem a little to contrived? This whole draft thing is starting to take on a professional wrestling feel.
Are you sure it wasn’t Dr. Shawn Andrews?! Or Stacey?
This OL piece is at 1200 words already. HELP ME.
hahaha just post it ^^ unlike Geagle I think most people will be interesting to read however much you post. Or Email it to Tommy and get him to post it as a full post.
That’s a Bingo.
Its for Eagles Rewind, I’m going out for my birthday dinner at 5 so I’ll get as many guys as I can and then it’s going out.
Happy Birthday boss!
Thanks, totally gonna go rent a car just because I can now.
Now that made me LOL!! Do it big my man!!
Don’t forego the insurance…
GHOST RIDE THE WHIP!
Happy birthday, mate.
I almost couldn’t finish this post… I’ll try my best.
I have videos and shiny pictures.
I like shiny!

Watching the Dolphins press conference where Tunsil is supposed to be introduced. He’s not there though….due to an “allergic reaction” lol. Hmmmm.
I wasn’t aware of the conversations with his coach that were posted online where he is asking the coach for money and the coach is literally giving him money.
he wears a headband to a bar? what a hardo.
his contract was fully guaranteed right?
over the cap says 7.7M fully guaranteed (out of 8.2M). Enough to buy a round. Or pay for a good rehab.
Bet you he doesn’t have much left… Lawyers are expensive
I know we are.
Congrats?
Johnny Headband?
Suddenly, #13 isn’t looking like such a steal.
Miami may have turned #8 into Kiko Alonso, Byron Maxwell, and Shaun Andrews. Those poor fans.
Don’t you ever mention these three names on here, Sir!
Tunsils agent represents Dolphins coach and a few of their key players. Sounds like he will play guard next year. Thrilled to see Giants pass on him… Respect to the kid for standing tall optimg to own his mistakes to the media… And if he beat up a grown man for abusing his mom, Id want him protecting Wentz even more
Wow, seriously is that the best they could come up with?
Btw, how popular do you think Tunsil is today back at his “alma mater?”
Top 5 possibilities in Rd 3 IMO(in no particular order):
Alex Lewis, OT, Nebraska
Javon Hargrave, DT, South Carolina State
Paul Perkins, RB, UCLA
Nick Kwiatkoski, LB, West Virginia
Kolby Listenbee, WR, Texas Christian
will Kenneth Dixon be gone by then?
Good possibility. Dixon is a possibility too but not in my top 5 based not just on ability but on chance of being around.
I really like these guys but was hoping Kwiatkoski and Listenbee are more 5th round targets
Agreed.
Those guys have been risers, at least with draftniks. I doubt they’re there in Round 5.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I shudder to think of leftover crap we’ll be stuck with.
Typically the way the draft works is you take a guy in Rd 3 and everyone cries REACH!!!! Then you end up taking a guy in Rd 5 that no one thought would be there. WHAT A STEAL!!! No one knows.
Typically guys we have never heard of, who sometimes turn out to be better than the ones we have.
I’d like
Westerman (G)
Dixon (RB)
Hargrave (DT)
Williams (RB)
Martin (G/C/RT?)
I love Hargrave.
Has Pederson come right out and said “our rookie qb is going to sit on the bench for x amount of time”? I don’t know why everyone thinks Wentz is just going to sit the bench for the hell of it. If he’s the best QB…he playing. It’s as simple as that. If he’s not, then he will sit until he is.
when they made the trade, they started off the presser by saying SB is the starting QB
Isnt that them trying to keep what ever small leverage that they think they have alive in the hopes of a trade? They certainly aren’t going to come out and say “Welp, got our QB…any takers for Bradford? “
That’s what rams are trying to do.
They’ve said all along that rookie will sit and learn. You can’t start Wentz in this city, i think he’s a talented kid that’s a bit of a project. Gotta work out the mechanics first.
But what if he’s ready? What if he’s the best qb in camp? Still going to sit him?
nope but I think that’s unlikely. Can’t wait for the camp reports, Wentz is KILLING it on 6 on 6!!! After last year I don’t believe anything I see in preseason.
I mean I’m all for sitting him….but only if he needs it.
If he’s the best qb in camp he should play. I have a very hard time believing he’d be better than chase or sam.
I happen to agree with that, I just don’t buy the notion that he’s sitting no matter what.
yeah maybe. we aren’t going anywhere this year and the nfl is littered with talented kids that got thrown in the fire before it was time.
My impression is that there are more than a few QB coaches in the league who are loathe to start a rookie QB prematurely. There is a precedent for the argument that a potential starter can be “ruined”. They see stages of development that cannot be skipped over, and Pederson has not publicly voiced that opinion, but between AR, HR, Doug and Frank and the Eagles QB coach, it seems likely that the argument has some merit. Particularly when the rookie has played so little college ball, and at a small school.
maybe but then they would have traded him, no? I think they actually believe what they said.
I think they thought they’d have more takers for Bradford.
Sam is going to talk the 1st team reps on the 1st day of camp (if he is not traded). After that it will depend on how the QB’s look in camp and preseason. The Eagles do not need to force Wentz to start in 2016 and if they look at him at the start of camp and evaluate he needs to improve his core mechanics and understanding of scheme and NFL defences to succeed plan to shut him down the year as the 3rd QB and get him focused on fixing those issues.
If he comes in and looks technically sound enough (there can be a lot of improvement in the 8 months from Jan to September with pro coaching in the pre and post draft process.) and he is picking up the scheme well then he is going to be starting some time in 2016 unless Bradford comes out and play at a probowl level.
I really hope it plays out like that. No fluff. No real leash. Start the guy with the highest chance to win now. Take advantage of this defense. Win the division then who knows what.
Everyone of course low-key wants Wentz (not not so low-key I dunno) to be the best from day 1. Just not bloody likely.
Not everyone.
It’s an interesting question. It took Bradford half a season to learn Chip Kelly’s tiny playbook and now he’s going to skip optional activities where he could be learning Pederson’s offense? And Wentz who is supposedly very smart and a quick learner is going to be in those meetings learning the offense?
I’d like to see Wentz brought along cautiously, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he knows the offense better than Bradford by opening day.
Doens’t mean he’ll play, but I completely agree with you
There’s a difference between skipping voluntary workouts and not being able to practice at all until august.
Sam surely has playbook access and has been learning it since dougy p was hired. I’m sure he’ll come back to practice after the draft and there’s no trade opportunity.
Think he will be back way before mandatory camp anyway..
..
Before the draft he can try to force the Eagles to accept a lowball offer, but once the draft ends, he won’t have much to gain by continuing to hold out. And every day that passes he gets closure to the point where he only hurts himself, while letting Wentz get way more reps than he would be getting if Sam came to work… I would think his agent is smarter than to have Bradford continue this hold out much longer after the draft ends
…
It sure feels great to get to see what Bradford can do in year 2 as an eagle without having to worry or care about the possibility of getting hurt. Awesome that dirty cowboy fans still don’t have that luxury with Fragile Romo
I agree, but I highly doubt he’s going to come in and be the best QB in live game action during the pre-season. I expect some growing pains in those 4 games.
This Tunsil situation just keeps getting more and more strange.
what happened?
His media time in Mia was canceled today due to “an allergic reaction”. Like WTF. This dude is either snake bitten…or I don’t know what.
How’d you think that opening presser was going to go?
Judging from his talk with Dieon, fine.
meant in terms of questions he’d be asked by the media. It’s too hot for Tunsil right now.
Better man up son. He seems smart, needs to get past it all now. Rip that band aide.
It’s called the Puff puff tour. #SnoopDogg
As long as he’s pee pee pass, he’s fine.
If he really had an allergic reaction, why even have one? They said literally nothing the entire time.
well his eyes are all red, so they call it an allergic reaction.
I use that excuse sometimes
what now
It is funny, but I still think he’s a great player. He’s more stuck in some dumb stuff than anything really ill in my opinion. I’ll be rooting for him.
Yeah, I like him too. This is just really strange.
Agreed.
this is at least mildly entertaining http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2016/4/29/11540518/new-york-giants-nfl-draft-trades-history-2016-doug-martin-leonard-floyd
I’m an insane person. Here is my 2000 words on some OL targets for the Eagles, and recap of where things stand with the Eagles OL. Plus pictures and videos for the ADD amongst us.
https://eaglesrewind.com/2016/04/29/protecting-wentz/
thanks and happy birthday
Nice!
funny to me how sam gets so much crap for being bad given how poorly the line played and how poorly the receivers caught and how poorly games were called.
Some day it will actually be his fault.
this thought just occurred to me as i was reading your article about how trash the line was last year.
Sammy B’s eye test wasn’t bad, generally hit open receivers generally made right decisions w/ the ball. 0 nick folesian articles written about how he’s missing wide open wide receivers…but i digress. Back to the article.
yep it’s going to be tough for us having two elite QB’s on the team.
I think the common thought is that he started crappy and ended kinda above average.
I can’t remember what DT prospect they were showing last night, but he was rag dolling Glasgow over and over in the highlight. I might have been at the senior bowl. It gave me some pause on him.
Rankins. And don’t those drills are fucking a nightmare for interior OL. They aren’t realistic simulation. One on one with a 3 yard go on either side of you? That’s never happened.
Ok, thank you. It looked really bad. Appreciate that context.
Those drills are annoying for OT, but liveable, they are absolutely trash for interior OL. My old OL coach would always tell us “I mean this is for the defensive line, it also helps us if we suddenly start playing with 5 yard splits and it’s 3rd and 20 every snap”
I wish somebody on the NFL network broadcast knew that.
Coach,
Happy 65th.
Just corrected your Wiki page.
Someone wrote 4/16 — not 4/29 — as your B’day.
Are the guys you profiled in order of “goodness”?
Roughly in order of man crushness.
So we gave Gardner money to be our starter last year, before an injury. If you ask Todd Herramens guard is interchangeable. Was that just a giant blunder? He currently has the 55th guard cap number (which has Osemel at the top so really 54th) in the league.
If he is just an “OK” back up, he is a waste of money. I thought we were all behind him as the answer at guard last season. Wa happen?
He spent the season laying down on the job when we needed better guard play. Much like Barbre did in 2014.
I guess I get that. I would still like to see him listed as one of the starters as of right now.
I agree. When guys lack the decency to develop their most important ability, availability, it sickens me. Especially in position groups where we vitally needed better play.
Gardener does nothing for me.
Noticed you didn’t include Shon Coleman? Was that because you don’t expect him to be available at 79 or because you don’t like him. Tony Pauline reported that Coleman could drop in the draft due to concerns about a knee injury he has/had.
He’s posted previously about Coleman.
IIRC . . . Good story, but technically very raw. A poor, older man’s Greg Robinson.
Its funny, Tommy wants Coleman but dislikes Haeg and D3FB has it the other way around
Good catch!
Age, rawness, I like the kid, I just honestly don’t know what to do with him.
Charles Davis is a really nice person. Even when he has something mean to say, he says it nicely.
Nice 3rd round guard you got there Chip
https://twitter.com/CFD22/status/726133925572169728
Who are your F-bomb players if division rivals get them tonight?
How about guys you break out laughing if they take?
I will be cheering every time the Cowboys DONT take a DE and DB, and Every Time the Giants continue to push back addressing their OL and Safety
..
I like Doctson but was pumped when skins passed on Nkimdiche
oh god that would’ve sucked
Yeah not ideal that he is in arizona, but better than being on our toughest rival thats for sure… Chip has some scary DL’s to deal with 6 times per year
I think Nkimdiche is gonna reach potential way more in that Cards locker room than he would with the Skins. Cards are gonna be good for awhile. Will be interesting what they do at QB. Palmer can’t play forever.
Say what you want, I’m not thrilled to be facing Doctson or Elliot twice a year…
It’s going tobe nice actually being able to generate a consistent pass rush. Not worried about Kurt if we can get home a few times.
I hope we do. Hopefully this go around goes better than with Wash/Juan
not to jinx it but it would fucking have to be better than that
Lol me too, but I want to see it first. Other problem is it’s a stop-gap defense. Schwartz won’t be here forever and as soon as he leaves, that D is worthless
Where is Schwartz going? He was a train wreck of a head coach and he isn’t young.
Hes 49…if he turns around this defense, he’s gone in two years. Belicheat and Pete Carroll were both train wrecks as first time HC too.
The stink of Detroit is might and long-lasting.
Doctson is a good player. I didn’t make fun of that pick at all, it just didn’t make me go “wow.”
Elliot is a waste at 4. The value simply isn’t there. I’m more worried about covering Dez and Witten than I am about Elliot.
DeMarco beastes behind that line. Now put Elliot back there? Nightmare, value aside.
I never put value aside. I expect Elliot to have some good seasons………….and be gone. I can’t stomach that with a 4th overall pick.
You can say that, but if he helps put them over the top and they, God forbid, win a SB, no one will care.
Who says he doesn’t play for 8-10 years?
Joel Corry thinks they’ll just burn him out in 4 years and cast him aside.
They can’t defend anybody. I don’t see adding a RB to a team that already scores a lot of points with their starting QB playing a move that gets them over the top.
The had to cheat to beat Detroit in the wild card round two years ago, and their D has regressed since then.
Elliot will be a nice fantasy player, but won’t move the needle on their status in the NFC.
Elliott’s 5th year option will outstrip his franchise-tag value (at current rates).
Burn him out. Burn him out now.
Such a poor allocation of assets to take that guy at 4. He’s not Tomlinson, Peterson, or even Gurley.
What I love the most is that they lost out on both Wentz and Lynch.
The smart thing had been trading back to around 12-16 and take Lynch and then take Henry, Dixon etc. in the 2nd
Agreed x 2.
I really hope so. Wish I shared your confidence, I just fear him being a dominant player for a long time.
Hopefully they run Elliot into the ground trying to protect Romo like they did with Murray…..we gotta build Schwartz one of the top front 7’s in the game
Short of a major Morris Claiborne type bust, hard To avoid Dallas getting a good player.
..
Giants pick went better for us than I could have hoped. Heck I think Doctson is a better prospect than Apple.
You’d be correct. Apple has little to no football sense when you watch him on film.
I agree. Just would have rather it been Bosa. Damn you San Diego
Bosa in a 3-4; stupid.
I think it is perfect if you play the Bum Phillips version and put him in the JJ Watt and Bruce Smith role (he isnt any of them)
And you could put me in the role of Sir Lawrence Olivier in Hamlet………………it wouldn’t be pretty. Bosa is so miscast in that system.
MM —
What’s that about?
Is SD planning on using him as a 1-gap DE?
Or standup OLB?
They said both!
HA HA HA HA HA HA. He’s too slight to hook the end in a 3-4 as a DE and too limited athletically to play OLB in that system.
If dallas goes DE in round two, I hope it’s Dodd who I don’t think is that good.
..
But I’d love to see them ignore DE for another round
..
Think the Giants are going to take one of the OSU WRs in round 2, Braxton or Micheal Thomas which would be great to continue seeing them ignore OL
Dodd was always showing extremely late to the play in all of the Shaq Lawson highlights they were showing last night. He wasn’t a guy who stood out to me while playing in Clemson games I saw. I think he’s too much of a projection and won’t be playing against ACC RTs in the NFL with a stud DE (but not an OLB STUPID BUFFALO) drawing attention away from him.
I read this site for you to tell me that!
I can certainly get upset with the best of them, but I’m only me.
apropos of nothing – I really really really hate Sam Bradford so much now.
I think that was his intention.
Kelis?!
Can we please stop with the trade Barwin crap?! Thank you. 🙂
Yet, if you’re looking to gain extra pick or two, there are few players on the roster that might actually have league-wide value to do that. Now, Barwin is maybe my favorite Eagle, but despite what he’s said so far there’s at least a slim chance that Schwartz doesn’t view him as a great fit at DE.
I did that a few days ago in a “think aloud” and talked myself out of it for this year, but only because Curry’s cap hit is $3 mil.
2017 cap hits for Curry, Barwin, and Graham is too high together to justify. I’d look to move him then IF we get any production from Smith II and/or a guy we add this year.
Okay, we are 31 picks in. If we list our top 48 guys left, we know we will get one of them.
I’ll start:
1. Myles Jack.
Javon Hargrave
2. GermanEagle
I hear he has a sustance abuse problem.
I echo that big character concerns i have heard from draftniks.
Allegedly
Man he’s dumb enough to post about it too!! No wonder he’s falling through the draft like crazy.
That’s not nice.
Are you sure you weren’t hacked?
Lol
Lol. At least I’m not wearing a beer bong mask at work.
Sprigs – raw but a good scheme fit and could be really good 2-3 years down the line (wont be there tho).
He tested, easily, as the most athletic OT at the Combine.
Not quite Lane Johnson-crazy numbers.

Cleveland is quietly kicking ass in the draft.
You like their Coleman pick? I thought they should have grabbed Doctson.
Agree, but Coleman is not a bad pick.
Do they have a TE? Henry is still on the board. I would like to see them grab another offensive playmaker
They do not have a TE, but no good TEs this year
Hunter Henry
You must not have owned Barnridge in fantasy.
Coleman is a dynamic playmaker. Wish we had one.
Don’t give up on Agholor yet
Agholor is going to be really solid, but he’s not a home run hitter like Coleman.
The guy was a terror at USC. Chip only cared about him getting lined up fast and blocking.
He just needs to fix those concentration drops. He has the speed to take anything to the house
I need. JMATT to watch some Dez Bryant, Fitzgerald and Hopskins tape this summer. The guy is too big and fast just to be Avant 2.0. If that’s all he is I will be upset.
Think Jmatt suffered from the fact that he probably ran 2 routes all year.
The over and; the over and up?
Think Carson Wemtz WRs at North Dakota ran more sophisticated routes than Chip and Bicknell had our WRs running,
..
Lol Wentz college offense may be more complicated than what we ran last year
If we get Sterling Shepard, we’ll have one.
I like their accumulation of picks. They got an extra 1, 2 extra 2s, and 3 extra 3 by trading down from 2. And I do like Coleman.
Many assets, but you can’t take it with you. At some point the need to add impact players.
They holes. I think every pick from the first 2 days might have a Chance to make an impact
They’ve got 11 more picks in this draft, I think. Including several tonight
We had 11 picks in 2011, we got Jason Kelce to show for it.
A nice haul, but lets see who they take with the pick.
If their whole ponzi scheme ends up with them targeting Watson at “quarterback” in next year’s draft, this whole thing is a joke.
impossible if they didn’t get Wentz they didn’t get nobody
“SAM Hinkie-ing” the heck out of the draft… Wonder how they will feel if Wentz goes on to be elite
They will feel like the Browns
If you are going to bet on a QB, going against the Browns opinion is typically a good way to go… Lol should have pulled out of the Bradford trade the moment we found out that the Browns wanted him……jk
Only if they do something with those picks
If one thing we can take from Wentz’s press conference, he is extremely confident in his athletic abilities. I like that in a QB
Is it strange that the Rookie QB from NDSU is about 10x better with media in a press conference setting than your head coach?
Some people are just more charismatic than others. It doesn’t make him a better QB though.
Let us hope there are plenty of other things that do make him a better QB than Pederson.
Does that matter?
Jaylon Smith has a good shot of doing well in terms of insurance $ since he could easily fall out of the top 100
Jaylon Smith is going to be the guy i am jumping up and down every pick till the 7th round. Then he goes undrafted and he goes signs as a UDFA, redshirts a year and then becomes elite LB in 3 years time.
Hopefully with us!
79 seems like a real good number.
For an offensive lineman.
TYVM .. didnt know they had this. its pennies and a shallow lie the NCAA has .like it really helps.. not a bit
.
Makes me hate the colleges and predator liars at NCAA even more
Quick, Myles, post a picture wearing a gas mask!
Every year Lurie looks more and more like Larry David
Not at all
This quote by Brady Quinn on PFT is spot on…
“He came into the league being a guy who got paid $60 million to be a starting quarterback and to play and really didn’t have to deal with any sort of competition throughout his career because economically he was paid so much,” Quinn said. “I think he finds himself now in a situation where that’s what he comes to expect and that’s all he knows. He’s never had to necessarily grind it out and compete against someone else on the roster.”
“So he signs a new contract and he’s thinking, ‘Alright, I’m the guy for this team for at least the next couple years.’ He feels like, ‘Well, I don’t have to deal with worrying about the second overall pick in the first round to compete with and hear the fans clamor for him the second that I throw an interception, the second I end up playing bad.’ He’s never had to adjust to that before in his career, so he doesn’t know how to deal with it and he wants to go somewhere where he feels like he can be the guy. He probably feels that way because he had his best statistical season last year for the Philadelphia Eagles. Even though he hasn’t been healthy for 16 games throughout his career he still wants to be the guy. He still thinks he has the ability to be the guy so he’s just looking for that opportunity. So you could see why he would feel that way, unfortunately that’s just not the position that he’s in anymore in the NFL. It’s not like he’s the first pick overall coming in the draft, like a Jared Goff, who has some time to prove himself. He now has to prove himself even among his own roster and his own quarterback room.”
Do you remember when people (including myself) were clamoring for sanchez last year? Team got booed plenty last year. If he played poorly he’d get booed and benched even if it was him an chase. That’s Philly.
Even if he plays well has another career year he’s likely gone. That probably made denver job enticing. That job is gone, there’s no one else that wants him. I think he’ll step up to the plate and show the young buck.
I think he isn’t getting much slack because he could have done a deal with Denver in Denver’s price range. But he took a much better with us knowing it’s a short one year prove it deal. He made the bed. I get that it is slightly different b/c the chances of him playing well and staying here in the same system are lower than before, but his overall status on a prove it deal did not change.
“I get that it is slightly different b/c the chances of him playing well
and staying here in the same system are lower than before” Understatement of the day.
Agree eagles paid him more not to hit FA, but no one thought the deal was outrageous when signed, fair prove it deal for a guy that ended the year pretty well.
understatement yes but when you compare it to the chances of him actually playing like a franchise QB and getting a long term deal, his odds of sticking around really didn’t drop that much. 20% to now 8%?
Right I do think it was fair not outrageous, but he knew Denver wouldn’t pay near that, so I think some of us are ticked that now it’s like oh sure I want to play for the defending SB champs but only b/c I locked in a higher salary with the Eagles. Choose what is important to you, and stick by it.
anyway, I’ve moved on to Wentz. I do really hope SB plays well this year, for him and us too.
“I’ve moved on to Wentz. I do really hope SB plays well this year, for him and us too.”
+1
That’s interesting. Thank you for sharing.
Cleveland made their pick. No trade back.
Good. I was getting jealous of the picks they were amassing.
it started?
Day 2 begins at 7 pm.
Interesting pick.
I hate having players make announcements. Between announcing the player and announcing the pick, it gets the draft running behind.
Day 2 + 3 are unbearable to watch live. I just give up and follow along online and twitter.
You don’t like the 30,000 TV commercials?
I love this.

Niceeeee
3 full days of listening to Ike Taylor. I think I would rather listen to Skip Bayless at this point.
Twitter is the only way he’ll stay relevant.
Wow. Jevon Kearse announced the Titans pick. I can’t believe he didn’t blow out his knee on the walk to the podium.
Cowboys wanted Ogbah, then Pauline reported they wanted Dodd..
Better for them they didn’t get either. Not a fan of either guy.
Think it’s Jack for DAL.
close enough
WHOAAA
ugh
Woah, Jaylon Smith. Good pick. Probably won’t play this year, though.
Sean Lee 2.0 they hope.
at leats that’s next year’s problem.
Between Jaylon and Sean Lee the Cowboys now will get 16 games of high level LB play from one spot.
Damn Jack must be done if the Cowgirls took Smith.

Dallas has unlimited money to pay for cutting edge medical treatments for Smith’s knee to get him healthy and unlimited tolerance for his impending 4 game PED suspension.
So can we get Jack….?
F Dallas, but I hope Smith does well there. I was a major fan of his and it sucked to see him injured like that.
Hunter Henry is going to be a sleeper pick in fantasy.
You think? If gates stays healthy he’s going to hog all the good stats.
Gates is always banged up.
Except when Kendricks is “covering” him
http://espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=330915021
SD took TE Hunter Henry. JAX traded up to BAL’s pick(1 spot jump?). I think they’re taking Jack.
I hate it when teams draft well.
Good. Now I can root for him since he’s as far away from our division as possible
Ramsey and Jack for the Jags. That team is going to be scary if Jack gets back to 100%
And Fowler
Do you think Marquise Lee can return to form?
Doubtful. Seems like their staff is pretty over him as well.
Man, if Jack can stay healthy – Ramsey and Jack. Bradley will find a way to blow it though.
That division could actually stop being terrible.
Ramsey and Jack is a hell of a draft from the Jags. That is a A+ draft if they only draft kickers and punters from here.
We need some stupid reaches soon to drop down good players to Eagles.
Cook
Hack
Jones
Brissett
Prescott
Wait, he doesn’t seem like a “fastball”
Nice run on defense hopefully some good OL will drop

Ravens trade down again and the Dolphins are on the clock. have to wonder if Jones was on the Ravens radar
Guess – Mackenzie Alexander
you know compensation?
4th
When you draft in the top 5 every year, you eventually can build something (unless you’re Cleveland). When you miss the playoffs and still draft 20th, you tread water.
Baltimore got a 5th to move from 36 to 38 and then a 4th to move to MIA’s pick(not that far down I think)
Dolphins could take Mackensie Alexander.
🙁
there is still hope.
Corners getting smoked.
Reminds me of Nnamdi and DRC.
So how exactly does one say “Xavien?”
like xavier but with n at the end?
Hilarious response!
[ɜː], [ɝː] curve, purge, herd, serve, bird, stir
Don’t confuse the symbol with [ɛ]. [ɜː] is pronounced the same as [əː] in some dialects while it is slightly “darker” in others, and many dictionaries don’t use it at all and write simply [əː]. The difference between [ɜː] and [ɝː] is the same as between [ə] and [ɚ]. The former is used chiefly in British English, the latter chiefly in American English (listen to the recordings). Dictionaries which denote [ɜː] as [əː] would denote [ɝː] as [əːr]. In writing, [ɜː] and [ɝː] are usually represented by the letter groups “ur”, “er”, or “ir”.

Just like that.
You type it and avoid the issue.
Hate the bastards going to commercial when a pick is in. NFL has enough money. Can afford to go commerical-free.
Especially on NFL Network, which we all already subsidize with our cable bills.
Interesting they would trade up for that player.
That’s a very polite way of putting it.
HWS baby! HWS!
Damn, Twitter just broke.

My guess is move up for Connor Cook.
I’m thinking an edge rusher.
Before 40 is picked?
I’d guess they have been officially submitted and teams know already.
Noah Spence……..eh.
Bucs having a solid draft too. Those South teams are on the rise.
I like Hargreaves, but Spence would be off of my board.
His talent is undeniable. The Bucs filled holes with guys that can be cornerstone guys.
Not convinced he’s able to be a DE at the point of attack.
Getting stronger is the least of my worries for a NFL rookie.
Damn….do we have any good CBs? Going to need them.
We just have to run through that tissue paper OL before they can throw it.
Screw you Giants 🙁
Sterling Shepherd to Giants. Might need to go CB in Rd 3 to cover these new NFC East WRs.
He good
No way mackensie last till we pick so sean davis it is

Goddammit, fucking Giants have drafted two of my favorite WRs in the last couple drafts.
Wanted Shepard in the third round but noooo
New thread.
