Gameday – at KC

#Eagles inactives for #PHIvsKC:
CB Darby, WR Gibson, WR Johnson, DE Means, DT Vaeao, G Warmack— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) September 17, 2017
The Eagles are going light at WR and heavy at DB. The WRs are all healthy and if anything did happen, the way the team uses Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, Zach Ertz and Trey Burton means they could get by for a game.
We’ll have to wait and see how the DBs get used. I think using Patrick Robinson on the outside is the way to go, but Doug Pederson mentioned earlier this week that he’d like to leave him inside and play others outside. KC’s receivers are faster than they are big so I’m not sure this is a good week to use Rasul Douglas very much. Do you play Jaylen Watkins outside? Do you put Dexter McDougle out there?
You can use Douglas against small, speedy guys if you give him Safety help over the top.
If the Eagles win today, it will require a big game from the guys up front. My prediction…Derek Barnett gets his first sack today. Elijah Qualls makes his NFL debut. I’m curious to see how he’ll do as a pass rusher. Qualls flashed in the preseason and showed the ability to get penetration and be disruptive. He’s going to play limited snaps so he needs to give max effort every moment he’s on the field.
Will new PK Jake Elliott have a key moment? It will be interesting to see how he does.
Big chance for the Eagles today. We’ll get a feel for where this team really is. Can they win? Do they play well, but lose a tight one?
If there is one advantage the Eagles have, it is getting KC after their win over the Patriots. The whole world has been talking up KC for the past 10 days. That can go to your head. Will they be focused?
_
This feels like the Pittsburgh game from last year… I’m hopeful but give the edge to the other team.
Call it Chiefs 26, Eagles 13. Eagles get behind early, have to pass a bit more than they like, and Wentz throws a few INTs among the 45-50 pass attempts.
This is one of those OL and DL in the trenches games. If our units control the LOS on both sides, we win.
I also have to differ on the “KC has been reading their news clippings and thus will be unprepared” cliche angle…Reid actively coaches against this and will nip that in the bud.. He has had 10 days to prepare and he’ll have his team ready.
Yeah it is basically a bye week for Reid and he deserves the credit he gets.
Reid is 16-2 coming off a bye during the regular season; 4-0 in the playoffs.
Eagles are going to have to weather the storm early here especially on defense. Chiefs are going to wrack up their share of yardage today vs this defense especially passing yards. Eagles need a few red zone stops (at least 2) and to force 2-3 turnovers.
Burkhardt and Davis as the announcers…yikes horrible
Game on boys
Beer or Rum?
Beer, rum should only be consumed if the Eagles are losing or playing badly.
Hoping for a lot of Andy Reid moments from Andy Reid
Thank you and Help request. I’ve got no choice but I’m going to miss most of this game. Bringing offspring to College today. I know I can trust yous guys, but please bring the snark and whine non-stop about drafting OL in my stead. Most gracefully yours, D_E
Come on Jake. That would be of course, Jake the Peg, with the extra leg!
Jaylen watkins Starting
Good coverage by Jenkins. Overrated in coverage including his stone hands.
He got eviscerated last year in the slot when he had to play against his share of TEs/slot WRs last year.
DBs look terrible
Slice and dice so far
Nice play by Kendricks
Yucky start, Kendricks with the PBU of all people.
Need a red zone stop. This team get can’t down by double digits early on and come back.
Yes, really critical to stop momentum there.
Nice stop!
Nice stop
lol. he hit him in the end. absolutely PI. good no call ref
great coverage by Jenkins, its really gonna be a back and forth battle between him and kelce
Sam Bradford couldn’t play! I thought for sure he would…
Looking forward to Andy abandoning the run, mismanaging clock, doing stupid trick plays. etc etc.
Good hold on D
Alex Smith gonna Alex Smith
Tightened up.
Awful start but we settled down… Hopefully the O can sustain a drive here.
shrug, just looked like good execution by the Chiefs.
Not a terrible start. If we can drive for a TD now, it will be a good first exchange.
feel like alshon is going to feast today
There we go, run baby
O off to a great start. Take it to em!
new cleats torrey
Nice pocket
Nice, OL
Nice blocking by Kelce and Johnson
Gotta credit, them on that one.
Yeah, they sniffed that one out
Who uses more screens today – Eagles or Chiefs?
Chiefs I hope
Chiefs, Smith has good touch, Wentz not as much
This is interesting defense on both sides, really..
Welcome back, friend.
a run on second and long, nice.
Silly screens!!
I personally love the banality of Fox’s B-crews.
Big catch and nice execution.
Nice tackle, Peters
Quick is right – make the safe play and go with the checkdown instead of forcing a throw. Nice maturation by Wentz.
Oh, you motherfuckers
id rather have the down back
Your wish has been granted.
I would have declined if i was fat andy
PI?
intrigue
wooo
Automatic first down! I’ll take it.
Nice First Down
UGH IN THE HANDS!
Come’on Smith.
and it continues
Wrong shoulder throw
disagree
You could clearly see Smith looking for the ball over his one shoulder and then had to turn completely around to try to catch the throw
I think the term is back shoulder.
That was a hell of a throw.
looking at scoreboard, lots of terrible games today.
Wentz is acceptably sharp today.
FG try
lets see this rookie kicker
Lets see what you got, rook.
beauty
That’s how you start rook.
Good drive, took up clock, Shame we couldn’t put it in.
Sturgis, who?
both defenses are doing a lot of guessing and lots of sheltering their weaknesses…
Jake the Peg
If the D can hold them to no points I’ll consider the 1st quarter a big win. Absorb their opening punch and come back strong.
god dammit, torrey
anyone else surprised by watkins starting?
need Dline to make Smith uncomfortable here
hicks ANGRY
Get em’ Hicks!!!
Hicks aint phuckin around
UGHHHHHH
dammit, wrapup watikins
I’m not even sure he went for the ball. Just took a bad line, or Hill adjusted after Watkins committed. Ugh.
WATKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cox hurt
mother fucker
goodness, it took 11 to tackle him
Uh oh, Cox limping off field
that was like 10 missed tackle.s
Tackling.
way too much time for Smith
alex smith outthrew tyreek hill… will wonders never cease
Scary seeing Smith with all day to throw. Just hope he continues to be inaccurate if we can’t get the pressure on those
Now McLeod limping off the field, yikes
theres teh blitz.
Good hold after that egregious mistake by Watkins, didn’t cost us points.
Alex Smith is terrible, and was lucky he managed to throw that away…
How come Graham hasn’t been in?
He was in on the first run stop… I dont think he’s hurt.
Announcers mentioned him as soon as McLeod went out.
Other Graham, I think.
oops, sorry
My poor, poor, Vikings, with Case Keenum and his three yards passing
Nick Foles is probably available for a first.
Or a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, maybe 5th…
Imagine if they had kept Joe Webb!
Looks like Cox will be back, Mcleod out, but maybe not serious.
Well, 1 qtr and we’re in this thing.
About to be up 10-3. I can live with that.
Wow holy shit that sideline pass was 10000% better than last week.
wow much better swing pass
Thank you undisciplined Andy team!
#23 for KC… He’s someone to target.
You can’t contain Nelson Agholor.
three man rush,,, sack…
Man that was shitty between Seumalo and Kelce, looks like it was more on Seumalo.
Agree
That was a double plus ungood pocket movement, Wentz.
Lol @ ungood.
We have always been at war with collapsing pockets.
great play calling…
Justin Houston is pretty good.
Win or lose, the pace and excitement of this game is awesome.
The gunner grabbed his hammy.
Saw it too. Was it McDougle?
I didn’t see.
There it is, Watkins.
i cant be upset with the way eagles are playing
I’m upset with that sack… 3 man rush should not get free up the middle like that. Really hurt the drive.
agree, other team gets paid too but yea that was bad
Yeah but they didn’t even really make a play, Seumalo just looked like he passed the guy off when he didn’t need to. More a mistake on us than a great play on them.
if you took a drink every time one of our OL is stood watching a KC player make a tackle next to them do you think anyone would make it to halftime?
We can play with this team, but our offensive line has to improve or it’s going to be a frustrating season. Seumalo, Peters, and Kelce all with really bad whiffed blocks on that series.
Yeah man, OL is still a work in progress, I hope we get better.
Watkins limping now
wondering what’s happening to Mariota. So far both game, rather low on y/a… Have heard tell on consequential drops…
OT: but Rowe starting for Patriots, woot!
Would be nice to recoup a higher draft pick next year.
Kendricks earning paycheck
Alex Smith gets a free play, and doesn’t bomb the damn ball…
Cox hit his arm
hey may have tried, got hit
but I don’t think he was trying to throw deep. I think he tried a regular pass play…
Kendricks with another good play… Dude is really keeping up his good play.
Rasul!
Rasuullllll
Run defense looks really good.
War Kendricks
NCIE!
completely free downs now
The trifecta – you get embarrassed, penalized, and rocked by Cox.
Classic Andy play there. He really is great at play design.
Lets get Alex uncomfortable
Come on, Long.
Long hasn’t been impressive so far.
Not at all.
BOOM BOM BOMMMMMM
“Western Virginia University”? That’s a new one.
KENDRICKS !!!
Kendricks Rox
That sack should go to Bradham with the read on the RB.
Good job D!
Alex Smith isn’t really an acceptable quality QB. Jesus.
you like to overreact alot i believe.
He’s the classic game manager. He won’t lose you the game but he won’t win it for you either. You need everything to go great to win in the playoffs with a guy like that.
There’s a reason Andy spent his first round pick on a QB this year.
Just real tip top tackling out here today.
Poor Tackling
Playing contain
Why do we hate Kendricks again?
see last few years.
He is not a read and react player. But he absolutely has skills.
I know, but I’m going to give him a Kelly/Davis pass if he keeps playing like this
He never played for the Bills
Cause he got hurt all the time duh.
Oh, yeah I forgot! What an a-hole!!
I don’t hate him, but he’s a player with glaring weaknesses as well as real strengths. He’s a great blitzer and downhill attacker in the run game but he’s lost in coverage.
never swim away from a shark
The theory was that he’s not as good in coverage as he is blitzing or playing the run. And last year, they rarely blitzed and played the nickel a lot, so there wasn’t much way to use him to his strengths. He’s a good player and worth his salary, so the thought was it may be possible to trade him for a substantial return.
But maybe the usage was dictated by the CB play last year and hopefully he can get on the field more this year, and play more to his strengths.
For real, where is Graham? I feel like that whole series was the backups.
hes credited with one tackle and one assist. shrug.
He got called for offsides.
Tense game… every point counts in this one.
Whew, Sproles making things count.
Keep on feeding Sproles
come on with these drops.
god fucking dammit torrey
Man. He’s got to get going.
Way to go Ertz
Yeah Torrey doesn’t have talent to be more than a mediocre deep threat. No RAC, no hands, no blocking
Hands and ability to fight for the ball are not his strengths. He’s a deep threat and not much else.
Looked like contact to me.
That’s a catch a top WR should make. On the other hand, Ertz is a really nice third down safety blanket.
ugh!. clunk off of Ags hands
good awareness of the flag
well damn, dee. gotta give him credit for holding on…
Horrible throw by Wentz. His deep accuracy is officially a concern for me
Donovan’s deep ball wasn’tall that until we bought Jeff Blake into the QB room.
He has the arm strength but needs to improve his mechanics. Fixable problem.
He gets it there, but it seems to require a lot of effort on his part. And of course, he misses.
Most QBs have to wind up and step into deep throws.. The Vick/Rodgers types who can just flick it 60 yards are rare. Won’t stop him from being an elite QB if he can improve the accuracy.
Maybe I’ve been spoiled by Vick, McNabb, and Randall, who all had world class cannons. In any case, I consider the deep balls a weakness, and there is plenty of evidence that this is the case.
Not really. He has plenty of arm.
That was a long throw against the grain.
True. But still not even close
Damn, Seumalo got beat again. Not a good game.
Need some better OL protection especially in the interior.
seumalo having an awful game.
seumalo officially starting to worry me
Yup, he looks like hot trash today. An OG should not be giving up multiple sacks in the first half.
Yeah bad game. He’s playing worse this year than he did in his rookie year.
This is why some of us did not want him replacing Kelce at C this season and why it is good for him to go through the growing pains at OG
smith getting knocked around
He said known as a guy who’s good at getting it out quick and avoiding hits. That we’re getting to him is a good sign.
It is almost halftime?! How did that happen already?
Really fast game, not a lot of change of possession so far.
Fair amount of running, few incomplete passes, not many changes of possession.
nice hit he’s going to feel that tomorrow
Hope he starts feeling it at halftime.
Our offense has potential but is clearly not at the point where we can count on it to score 30 PPG. If we’re going to go to the playoffs we may need to win some 10-9 slugfests.
fake blitz??
Big COXXXX
cox representing
fuck.
fuck
ol reliable withthe fumble
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
I love watching fat guys in green laying on opposing qbs
Tried to do too much there.
damn.
Hold em to 3
theres BG
Eagles’ DL has been even more dominant than last week. Relentless so far.
Damn, i guess sproles isn’t westbrook reincarnated, ater all
I tole you fools this is a great DL!
MOAR HITS!! MOAR
I am interested if there was a plan to push more of the 1st team DL reps to the end of the half.
certainly felt that way.
Great hold… D is showing up huge today.
At least we got in Smith’s head
Predictions: do we see Smith in the second half or not?
fuck him. put in the Mack truck.
I meant Alex, but I appreciate the conviction.
His toughness has never been quesrioned – I think he’ll be back in there. Won’t be very effective if we can keep up this pressure on him though.
oh, god, “swagger,” the key to winning in the nfl
Know who tends to have more swagger? Players who are good
exactly. also check out recent studies that show dominance postures don’t work
run back for TD
or touchback. same differnece
Holy Shit
Holy shit
The feed I’m watching is a few seconds behind the broadcast so I’m not sure what these reactions are to immediately.. pretty entertaining way to watch a game.
lol, you see 3 “holy shit”s and you know something crazy is coming.
Holy shit.
Just the way they drew it up.
IT IS BETTER TO BE LUCKY THAN GOOD!!!
WOWOWOOW
just like they drew it up
Damn. not a good deep pass again, but that turned out extremely well, and may cancel out the Sproles fumble.
… or not.
Torrey tried to make a block!
Nelson Muntz “ha HA”!
uh, okay… dang….
lol, stat counts for Wentz, and Ertz just beat last year’s RAC totals
ertz is so overpaid
wtf
Crap.
…
He’s a bum
lol. that’s fair, honestly.
Yeah we didn’t deserve those points lol.
I had a bad feeling…
fffff
Damn
I knew it when Reid called the timeout and he still followed through and kicked it..
Snap looked bad. Behind the holder.
Laces out, Dan!
Yeah it got down in time though it looked like.. I mean it’s a 30 yarder, he should be able to chip shot that.
huge arm but cant throw deep – damn.
He got his 1 miss out of the way for the season. 100% from here on out.
I hope Wentz hits a bomb 2nd half so we can stop talking about deep accuracy.
we could also discuss the fact that torrey can’t catch
I don’t think anyone’s said he isn’t capable of occasionally connecting.
Why did we bring in a rookie kicker when there are some proven NFL guys out there?
potential!!!!!
Sturgis is hurt-again-and in his last contracted year.
well, that was fun. It looks like we’re going to continue to have crap offense and great defense, just like last year. I probably won’t get to watch the 2nd half. Wentz will probably light it up.
This game is pretty wild, surprised you’re turning it off.
no, I have to take my family to the waterpark.
damn, i hope they recognize the sacrifice
Good lord give’th and he taketh away
Why does Howie Long look like he’s in his late 30s? Isn’t he 60 or something? He looks exactly like that in rl too
Well his son is like thw oldest eagle…
Props to Schwartz and co….
Kareem Hunt 5 carries for 8 yards
Hill 2 rec for 18 yds
Kelce 5 rec 71 yds
And most of Kelce’s came off only 1 reception.
no carries for Blount
He looks really slow… I’m happy we’re going away from him instead of trying to make it work.
He looks like he’s carrying a refrigerator on his back.
Isnt that pretty much Blounts MO? Im fairly certain he is of the belief that the season starts around november/december and that theres no need to get in shape before then. Thats when you have a fairly good idea about whether its worth getting in shape for the postseason, or he can stay in off-season mode.
some of yall thinking the eagles were gonna win, LOL
Andy iced us. Is this real life?
Master of the timeout.
Finally
Tipping in Philly
Wentz – 1
Shady – 0
We’re getting yards but not sustaining drives long enough to score points.
Carson needs to get his touch game together.
Touch looked good on that dime to Torrey Smith. He fit the ball in a ridiculously tight window to Alshon too he just couldn’t make the grab.
It looks like the defense will be good enough to keep us in every game this year. Offense just has to find a way to score enough points to win, doesn’t have to be spectacular.
Hicks needs to work on that dawk leap
They not calling that horse collar? thats a gift
Sure looked like it was in realtim
It’s only horse collar if you pulled them down. He threw him forward.
1. Jernigan is a monster.
2. We still can’t tackle.
Jernigan is a definite upgrade on Logan. Bennie is a good run stopper but the best you could hope for in the pass rush from him was the occasional mop-up sack. TJ is a legitimate pass-rushing threat.
Jernigan is probably just as good as Bennie as a run stopper too.
awww, i saw the 6 and hoped it was barnett
Man this game is a slugfest, both D’s playing outrageously good.
At this rate we’ll be sending WRs to play in the secondary. Better figure out how to score soon.
BG opening up the gap.
Dline is taking over the game
Remember when we had no pass rush? remember when we had billy davis? Love this version of the eagles defense.
Graham, Curry, and Cox are all much better fits in a 4-3 defense than they were in Davis’. Still, gotta credit the personnel department as well – Jernigan was a big addition.
Nice touch on that pass.
how many runs do we have/
8, all Sproles (40 yards). And one Wentz scramble if you count that.
There was at least one Smallwood carry (stuffed for a loss) as well.
Whoops, yeah, it was cut off on the stat sheet when I looked at it. Now Smallwood has two runs, after that 8 yarder, so he was -2 on the first.
good protection
Was that Celek stoning Houston 1 on 1?
Yes but Houston seems like he was playing contain.
MACK TRUCK
Hollins busted his cherry
MARCH BABY!
no no. superbowl is in february.
Mack Hollins reminds me of a faster Hank Baskett.
I think Hollins could have gotten more if he ran outside instead of inside. Still a great route and nice sell.
Hollins looks like a player. Great body control once he catches the ball, and he catches the ball.
News flash, Sproles is still fast
lol “there is THAT run”
Singular.
Blount it baby
Pass on this drive have been pretty close to perfect.
hell of a block by celek.
Push off
Or not. Woohoo.
fuck you thats a TD
TD what the fuck.
Why the fuck did we have to blow a challenge there???? anyhow…
TOUCH DOWN IIIIIIIIIGGGLESS!!!!!!!!!!
Challengable play no?
Yes, and Doug did quickly.
Refs please.
go for 2. cant trust PK
Just need to be careful kicking from the hashmarks it looks like 😉
No point in trying out a rookie kicker if you’re not going to use him …
Wentz perfect on that drive, huge drive by the O.
If that kind of QB play becomes the regular for the next decade, we are going to be soooooo spoiled.
What I like is things had become a little uneven, but he settled down, refocused, and we delivered. After a decade of Donovan Mcnabb it’s so nice to have a QB who doesn’t get into a death spiral he can’t pull out of.
Donovan was a good, at times great QB, and way more resilient than people give him credit for. It’s the near decade of Kolb/Vick/Foles/Bradford I want to forget.
Psst.
Hey, guys….
We are winning.
I don’t think we have road games this year. The cheering sounds like another home game.
Yo Dean Blandino is high as fuck every time he’s on camera. Dude’s eyes are so wide you’d think he just saw a ghost.
One underrated thing about Wentz’s game: while touch still isn’t his strength, he’s good at the back shoulder throw. Both knowing when to throw it, and placing it where his receiver can make a play on it. I can’t remember an Eagles QB throwing it as well as he does (not even Donovan was ever good at it).
Correct me if I’m wrong, but he didn’t throw the back shoulder last year.
He did a few times in the RZ.
arizona needs to figure their shit out. theyre my survivor pick this week.
Baby pooped during TD. let me just say:
WWWOWOWHOOOHHHHOOOOOO!!!!
I really hope Andy doesn’t change up his calling now that they are behind
fumble bitches
NM
Yeah, no, not all that close. Forward progress stopped and he was on his back on the ground anyways.
Those are some opaque green glasses.
they’re prescription
watching this at work. I’m scaring the fuck out of my coworker cheering for that “fumble” and whatever we’re calling that ertz circus catch
You know if Blount doesn’t work out as RB, Goode looked pretty good with the ball in his hands.
Douglas playing well
So is Mills.
Not giving Alex enough time to throw deep.
Lets keep it that way, we’re trying to keep the speedsters in front of us. Bend and don’t break defense.
I like him. He’s never going to win a footrace but he’s tough, nasty, resilient, physical, long-armed and instinctual. Richard Sherman has demonstrated that that combo can make a guy an elite NFL CB even if he doesn’t have elite speed.
NOPE
Let’s go D!! (That’s what she said!)
Douglas reacts quickly to the throw…hopefully that doesn’t expose him to double moves.
They have him set up for a double move. Hope the d-line can keep pressure.
Dammit.
fuck.
blah. knew it would happen eventually.
FLAG DOWN
nevermind
after the play damn
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH omg I’m dying. GODDAMNIT.
well, my feed caught up. Sucks.
Not holding 🙁
Why is that not holding on 72?
Probably not enough proof, at least from that angle.
really thought we would shut down hunt today
Outside of 1 run we have.
That missed FG better not be the difference in this game… You knew it could happen with a rookie kicker but…………
Literally any other play could be “the difference”. A missed block here, a drop there. It’s subjective which play you choose to pin all the blame on
yeah a 30 yard kick though…
Corey G with a pathetic attempt there
Backups man, injuries biting us.
dude is a 10 year vet though
Well, Buffalo didn’t seem to have any urgency to keep him… He’s a stopgap measure in a weak secondary.
runs confuse him, see last week’s WAS TD where he ran into his own man
He’s old.
On the bright side, Rasul Douglas looking confident and good.
You could’ve driven a truck through that hole.
Andy’s face was redder than his shirt.
a little early in the season for the fumblerooski
Lol, Wentz went to throw and it hit Brandon Brooks’ back.
dont like the negative fantasy points for those fumbles!!!
Would really like to see this team add a big play RB this offseason. Both running games have largely been stuffed today but the Chiefs have a guy who can bust a run if he gets a seam and we don’t.
On a side note, I’m more annoyed than ever at Chip for trading Shady for a crappy, injured linebacker. I’m his one season in charge he might’ve stamped himself as the worst GM in modern NFL history (yes, including Matt Millen).
It’s not at all what he intended to do but at least that linebacker ended up helping us get Wentz.
There’s some good ones in next years draft not named Barkley. Not sure if we’re going to invest in one though.
Barkley will be a high first round pick – we don’t need to invest those kinds of resources but I’d like something more than a role player like Pumphrey in the 4th round. Should be possible – Kareem Hunt was a third rounder.
If we’re taking one then I assume it’ll be in the 2nd round.
We’ll have to get a 2nd round pick, then
I believe in Howie.
Hunt had a giant hole and no one was back there. . Sproles & Smallwood would’ve scored there.
Wentz is averaging 9.5 yards per attempt
I though he was just a dink and dunk guy who can’t take the top off a defense?
Damn Sproles badly fucked up that blitz pickup.
Great play by wentz
WENTZ ! BIG PLAY.
It seems like every other play KC have a DL with their hand down in line with the ball. Can we have a flag please?
seems like so many foot tackles this year that could have been big runs
give him a break. hes smaller than you
god this is a good game
Agreed. Even if we go on to lose this I’m very encouraged. KC is a top 10 team (at least) and we’re going toe to toe with them in their house.
Maybe the toughest matchup in the NFL this year. Chiefs @ Arrowhead
MACK
im loving hollins
can MACK be our HEATH?
Chiefs DL is twitchy. We need a hard count.
surprised wentz hasnt used more, he’s got the ability
Damn I think Seumalo picked up a blitz when he was already engaged with another
That JP and Seumalo chemistry.
MACK
MACK 10!
HOLLINS!!! HOLLA HOLLA HOLLA!!!
JP good for one of those per game
guess it was seumalo
With the Peters impersonation
wow, Seumalo again… That’s a momentum killer.
Pretty sure peters did too.
Damn, we were rolling until that false start.
love carson’s awareness. most ealges qbs would have gotten a Delay there.
Yeah, seems like an Eagles tradition to get a couple dumb delay penalties every game.
I’ve never been convinced a timeout is worth 5 yards. Especially in a one score game.
Easily worth it in red zone.
Maybe. But being short timeouts at the end of the game can easily cost you a W.
are we in FG range?
“insert rookie kicker joke here”
Are we at the 10 yard line?
Don’t get him too close, it messes with his head.
This drive seems to be fizzling.
lot of contact
come on jakie
nice
oh, that butthole clench right there
my anus sphincter gains a lot of muscle mass after a football season
Whew!
Phew, nervous as fuck for that FG…
Wow, is this a good game.
back and forth for sure, glad to see we can hang with a good team like KC.
Yep. Regardless of outcome, this is a positive data point for the team progress.
well…nice kick kid
need a pick, need a pick, need a pick, need a pick
I will also take a strip sack with a fumble recovery by the Eagles. Return for TD optional.
I miss the good old days of Alex Henery.
An aside…really does look like Carson Palmer’s goose is cooked. and Blake Bortles needs to gtfo.
oh come on. how many missed tackles is that now
At least 20.
Didnt need that return
My feed is behind so I can’t stay in the thread .
your presence is missed.
Been there, done that.
akeem hunt almost tore our new kicker’s acl
Guys named -eem Hunt killing us in this game.
Strang, because Wentz is a big Hunt-er.
Doesn’t play defense, unfortunately
ok. thats one. 2 more.
nice, ill take it
YEAH ROOK!
it was tipped
HUGE play by Douglas there. Big stop, god this is a great fucking game.
why do you use the f word so much,
I don’t mean to be rude but fuck off.
oh, OK,
Finger wag and the clapper
I think you can take antibiotics for those
3 and out bitches!!!!!
please refrain from the cursing, sir
I thought it strange that Kelce didn’t even run a route. Great play by Douglas!
Wentz left that dude jock strap there
Houston
“That dude” was Justin Houston!
We’re going to get this win. I can feel it.
you shut your filthy mouth
Haha yeah, just remember my jinx powers are weak.
only thing you feel is a warm turd in your butt
Dammit!!!!!
Carson just crossed dat dude like AI
Damn! That was on Houston too
smallwood certainly fucking tried.
It seems like every time he gets the carry the blocking is atrocious.
these fuckign tips….
thats not the pick i was asking for
That’s my fault guys.
Yup.
We’ve all been there.
not a tip. nailed him in the helmet.
Goddammit. Plenty of time left though. Please keep them out of the endzone
jernigan blew that dude up
So. Much. Penetration.
add another 3 missed tackles.
damn, I come in and the first play I see is Carson nailing the back of some dude’s helment for an I
leave.
Turn it off
Two batted passes in a row. Second one way too low and hit a helmet. Wentz does need to do better than that.
UN FUCKING BELIEVALE
HOW?
That hurts
Vinny… that may have taken them out of FG range, and instead Smith runs for a 1st.
Hate to cheer an injury, but…
I watch more eagles than any other team obviously, but why is there so often missed sacks and flying d linemen piling on top of each other…..
coaching
1. our DL gets near the QB more than most
That missed Vinny Curry sack…… just like Chris Long missing the sack last week. We really really need to get our DL to wrap up on these sacks.
The missed FG might hurt a lot more if we come back.
How many easy sacks are we going to miss this year?
20.
I hope Tommy counts how many missed tackles we had when he goes over the game tape.
That’s an easy Kempski article.
If we go on to lose this game we can clearly fault turnovers and missed tackles as the cause.
hate that fucking play
It’s a good play. I’d like to see us run it.
To ertz?!
Maybe Burton, Sproles, or Smallwood. Somebody with more RAC ability than Ertz.
yea… me too…
fuck.
Man…. That missed Curry sack is going to be haunting.
Game changing failure to make a play there.
Couple of big plays swinging the momentum of the game… Sproles fumble, missed FG, Wentz int, Curry missed sack… In tight games you need to have those big plays swing in your favor. It’s not over yet though.
Fuck Kelce
okay, time to nut up, Carson. lets do this.
think that’s game…
go away
of such comebacks are Legends made…
The game hasn’t looked like one where we’d see the sort of offensive execution needed to answer this TD.
just needs one crazy schoolyard play
and what happened the last time we had a crazy schoolyard play?
Crazy schoolyard plays giveth and taketh away.
It’s a one score game and there’s still a lot of time left. Relax.
two turnovers on our end of the field leading to points for Chiefs…Gonna need some Carson heroics here
An Andy Reid shovel pass. Tricky, indeed.
I gotta hand it to big red, that was great timing to call that play. Same one that ran vs. the Pats last week.
alright. this time last year, wentz would have thrown a pick right here. lets see if hes grown up.
Damnit…that missed sack would’ve taken them out of fg range…
ability to finish when u get your hands on QB, so underrated. fortunately i think barnett has it.
Vinny curry threw the game
fuck off with this. two dropped bombs by torrey, one in the endzone, a missed field goal, and youre gonna blame curry.
shutup
Didn’t see the first half
No, he missed a tackle.
Andy still has it, unfortunately
Houston is a problem.
Ertz was blocking
going to have to hear all the whining about lack of running all week
not htat i disagree
Leaving Ertz to block Houston alone… hrrm. Need to get that ball out.
There better be a fake punt coming.
Can we get a call for a blow to the head on our QB?
Ertz almost got Wentz killed twice on that drive. Yeaaa..
no. now thats game
ugh
Another nail
and yall thought the eagles would win today, LOL
Blocking you now.
cool, you a democrat?
Pick 6 or it’s game over.
another missed tackle.
Expected the loss. The way it shakes out sucks. Kelce is a strait ass.
More obnoxious than Shady but still I’d take him over Ertz any day.
If you don’t want him to make an ass of himself, you gotta shut him down. That simple.
faggot
xeynon takes it balls deep
This team sucks
fuck off.
whore dog
No reason to overreact. This was a knife’s edge game until midway through the 4Q. We just had a few huge plays go against us.
Was an excellent game. It turned on a couple of turnovers. Curry had a chance to erase one of those, but didn’t.
now that was sad
Let him fucking score there
lots of WR money looks wasted
One Eagles loss and the hot takes start flying fast and furious. As a fan base we’ll never change.
OL is the bigger problem. Weak running game was what hurt us the most today and McLeod’s injury didn’t help. Also missing Darby.Peters groin also may be an issue. Carson needs to clean up istakes and Pederson needs to be better.
Chiefs are a tough team to beat.
I’d like to see Hollins take Smith’s spot.
It was a good game until the end. The team is getting better and I think they can take the next step if we get our run game figured out.
A statistically even game, except for 2 turnovers. Depending on how good KC actually is, maybe not a disaster.
Chief’s missed tackles – not many.
Eagle’s missed tackles – stopped counting after like 15.
Yeah, frustrating. The interesting thing is that both teams earned about the same yardage/play, when it’s all tallied up.
All late
It’s not a disaster. KC is a legit contender, Arrowhead is a very tough place to win and we were right in it until the end. Just didn’t get the big plays we needed.
The curry missed sack was the nail
I can thumbs up this one.
One reason I don’t like QBs who rely on big plays *wink*
Wentz (1) doesn’t “rely on” big plays and (2) wasn’t the reason we lost today.
It was our defense and S/T that didn’t make plays that were there to be made, not the QB.
Are you sure about that? He has a lower-than-average yards/attempt, but on the other hand his scores seem to be flukey/athletic/chunk plays.
Sure didn’t look like it today….
Arrowhead is one of 2 stadiums that has a significantly above-average home field advantage. Per Bill Barnwell I believe
Lots of flukey stuff for sure. D was outstanding but broke down for aome big plays at the end. That really can’t happen.
Yeah… we just looked a bit undisciplined, a bit green from what little I got to see.
Not a bad loss, don’t want to be peaking in Sept.
I think more fatigued. For instance Vinny Curry does his pattened beat his man for free sack but half ass efforts for sack as he goes to ground. Smith runs for first down.
I’m gone go with definitely not a disaster, unless 16-0 was your target. 😉
cracksammich just jumped off a bridge, bum loser
Dear Fox: not so many crowd shots in places like KC where seemingly 3/4 of the population is morbidly obese please.
Fun fact: you can replace KC with America or 2017 in that sentence.
Cant wait to see Dak get destroyed
If our DL plays like this every week then we’ll sweep the Cowgirls.
Take went out
No reason to get your qb hurt
Take a deep breath. Stop posting. Lol
I want Wentz to get as much game experience as possible.
Seumalo was trash today
Yes x100
Still too many mental lapses for him. Hopefully he improves as the season goes along.
chalk another sack up to him
first year starting, give him some time.
If curry wraps up this is a different game
If the new kicker doesn’t miss a chip shot, he negates the effects of the first turnover. If Curry gets that sack, he negates the second, and we’d have had a 3-point lead with the ball.
Would also have been nice to not make those turnovers in the first place. Or get a couple of our own. We were close, but not quite there. We played a very good team even — maybe even a bit more than even — outside of the turnovers.
I’m glad I focused on lane Johnson that play….we can all appreciate him destroying his man right there out of frustration
There was someone talking smack about Bennie Logan. Show up, fool, and answer for your damned jinx!
Jernigan >>>>>> Bennie.
Even a blind squirrel blunders his way into a coverage sack every once in a while.
Seao finally gets credit for his suck
Carson really needs to learn to unload the ball. That one was not actually Seuamalo’s fault.
He deserved it though
Yeah, he was awful today.
Probably should have used a TO there. Not that it matters a whole lot.
Should have used that to huh?
Damn. Yeah, would have 27 seconds instead of 5 here, with one timeout left even, and this would have been somewhat possible.
Gimme an Ertz trash TD. I deserve it!
That was a weak effort by Jeffrey. Go up for the damn ball if you want a top 10 WR contract.
Thought i’d throw in a half hearted “time to fire Pederson”….ahhhhh , not yet.
Sad thing is there will be plenty of people calling for that. I didn’t see anything today that I could put down to poor coaching.
Doug had agood game by my eye.
You cannot contain Nelson Agholor.
(Good grief)
Very nice play by him.
Using a timeout earlier would have saved about 22 seconds. Would still be an extreme long shot, but 30 seconds is a lot better than 8 left.
whoaaaaa
NO WAAAAY!!!!!!!! HOLY SHIT
Clearlt im behind u…lol read this about 5 sex before happened.
Why do they have to do this to me?
oh my.
keep the new kicker
Wentz 7.4 yards/attempt
Would put him at 13th in the league last year (he ended up 29th, only beating Brock mFin Osweiler).
He was at like 9.5 in the first half. Small sample size.
Yeah, well you have to add in the bad halves with the good ones :). He was at 7.9 last week, so the needle is definitely pointing up from last year.
Dude, he was getting hammered in the second half. Got balls tipped/batted down, was forced to throw it away or make low percentage throws that went incomplete multiple times because he had had three guys in his face and nobody open, etc.
Take it from somebody who actually watched the second half – the dropoff in performance in this game was not Wentz’s fault.
I hear you, man! KC is no pushover… still, the point of statistics is everything gets added in–hard games and easy games, sitting ducks and impossible situations.
Agree 100%. I just think we have to hold off on any judgments about whether Wentz has taken the next step or not until we have a bigger body of data to analyze (probably half a season’s worth of passing plays).
Of course!
No you don’t have to. It’s a team game. You have to put it in context. Chiefs are a great team so far. Running game wasn’t effective and Pederson didn’t run enough.
He wasn’t great but YPA wasn’t the issue imo. It was the mistake.
He was at 9.5 YPA at one point in 3rd. KC took over. No balance with running game & shaky OL.
It seems like Doug was limiting Carson’s ability to throw deep last year. I don’t think it was the wrong decision since Wentz could barely hit anything deep last year with his mechanics and bum WRs. He’s shortening the leash this year now that he has more experience, improved mechanics and WRs. Accuracy on the other hand still isn’t quite there yet.
You might find this article interesting, as it shows DVOA (which is a rate stat, and thus independent of usage) by route type.
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2017/dvoa-routes-quarterbacks
Some of it is still down to his receivers though. Even when Carson has thrown catchable deep balls (and he’s thrown a few despite the generally spotty accuracy on them), his receivers have not made the plays.
He needs to improve, but so do the WRs.
if only he piced it up
Too risky.. looked like it was headed out of bounds if he didn’t corral it right away.
Can he advance it?
one last chance!
Nice toe tap by Nelson there. He’s had a quiet day but that was a big time catch.
Look, for a loss, this shit is worth the price of admission
Guys, what’s going onI, I can’t watch
Scored, on side, Hail Mary…failed.
With Full on sidekick, fair oaks point about Unused timeout Is so on point
Oh just play the game
Should to have tried to scoop and go.
Cant advance an onsides recovery
Throw a 6 yard out
Dude, Bradford is gone.
They tricked us into showing the play was going to be a Hail Mary? Why?
bah
ah.
one question, why was Ags in for the hail mary and not hollins?
Regardless, that’s why you keep playing and don’t give up.
What a heartbreaker. We hung so tough but it got away late in the game.
arizona keeping my survivor pool hopes alive right here.
Even knowing that… I still root against that whiny bum of a coach.
So someone said Torrey dropped two long tds?
one
And dropped is a little strong.
First one was probably just out of his reach — fingertips. Second one was right on the hands, though was battling a defender.
He wouldn’t have scored the 2nd one either but it would have been a big gain.
Wentz struggled badly on deep balls today and lacked touch/too many poor throws on the screens.
Asked him to do too much though because this running game wasn’t getting it done.
Man… I’m gonna be despondent about this loss for a while. Such a rollercoaster.
I appreciate that the NFL is as close to a flag football — and hence passing — league as the rulemakers have contrived at this point.
But, jeez, Wentz is just a 2nd year QB . . .
Can’t call running plays on 2nd and long most of the time.
Yeah, after all, Reid doesn’t coach here anymore.
No reason to be despondent. KC is (1) an elite team; (2) an AFC team; (3) playing on 10 days of preparation time and (4) playing at home, which is one of the toughest venues for road teams in the entire league. This Eagles team was not going 16-0, and if you had to pick one game before the start of the season you thought would be a guaranteed loss, this would be right near the top of the list of the ones you’d pick. It’s also right at the top of the list of games they can afford to lose. I’d much rather they beat Washington and lose this one than the inverse, because an out-of-conference loss isn’t going to matter as much in playoff considerations as a division loss would’ve.
Of course I wanted a W too, and it was within reach. But if they come back with a win over the Giants next week, things will still be absolutely fine.
For those interested, Wentz was the correct fantasy call over Newton, and it wasn’t close.
Hunt was the difference in the 2nd half. Chiefs rode him to a victory.
One loss on the RBs and counting.
Nah it was a total team win for KC. Hunt had a huge hole on the long run with only stinky Graham back. Many RBs score on that. Other than that Hunt had 12 carries for 28 yards and 3 catches for 28 yards.
So what do you guys think about Alshon so far? I know we’re only 2 games in….just interested in thoughts.
Looks like the same guy he was in Chicago to me. The ability to be an elite, top 10 type receiver is there, the consistency is not.
Had a drop clunk off his hands.
He’s played like a very good, not elite receiver so far. I think it’s worth the 1 year rental but we’ll see about a contract extension.
Am I allowed to root for Goff? I feel like this is a gray area.
Today is definitely okay.
Hey remember when LeGarrette Blount was our starting RB? That lasted 1 week.
Seumalo was absolutely abused today. Where is the promise he showed as a rookie?
Carroll gives up the catch, then recovers in time to miss the tackle.
broncos up
This was a tough loss since we had a chance to make a statement and steal a W against an elite opponent on the road.
Still, it was an early-season loss to an AFC opponent. Those are the kinds of losses that are much less likely to haunt you than blowing games to divisional opponents. If we were going to be 1-1 after two games, a loss here and a victory at Washington is the combination you want.
Have to beat the Giants in the home opener next week (very doable – I can’t wait to see our pass rush go after Eli behind that lousy O line of theirs) and things will be fine.
Yeah I expected we’d more likely lose than win today… It’s just the way that it happened that feels crushing.
The good news is that we looked like we belonged on the same field as KC, who look like a top 5 team out of the gate this year.
We took this one on the chin, but we’re a team on the rise for sure I think.
Pederson has to commit to the running game more and/or get it straightened out .
It’s hard to stick to the run when it’s getting stuffed constantly I think. Really the OL has struggled in both pass and run blocking, Seumalo in particular was awful today.
I think KC knew what plays we were running so that’s on Pederson too imo. He didn’t adjust. Tough opponent but the running game really hurt us..
They teed off on Wentz as game went on. You have to keep em off balance.
Hard to commit to it when you have bad run blocking OLs letting plays get blown up in the backfield and bad RBs who can’t salvage things by making guys miss. Even when they have blocked a play well over the first two weeks, the RBs have been unable to break that one tackle that turns a solid gain into a big one.
You still have to run the ball. That’s why we couldn’t pass down the stretch and they teed off on us. Chiefs also knew what running plays were coming. Pederson has to get the play calling and runhing game straightened out.
Sproles Makes players miss and Smallwood only had 3 carries so how would you know if he can make plays? Reports were he did in TC.
46 pass attempts to 13 RB runs is not going to get you many wins.
I’ll tell you what will make this loss feel better, is the Cowboys losing. We’re all Broncos fans right now.
Huge pass/run imbalance….50+ passes vs, what, 13 runs? Blount with 1 carry for 0 yards. Smallwood ineffective. Sproles seemed to be their game plan option, but Sproles again can only do so much at this point of his career. Did not see Clement play.
This shows me again the Eagles do not have a strategic plan for building this roster or a team identity for how they want to play. If the Eagles are going to sign Blount, who has a very defined strength as a RB and needs reps to produce, one, they need to use him enough and, two, they need to commit to using him so he can be effective. If Pederson, Roseman, Douglas etc. were all aligned on signing Blount and using him effectively, something has either changed or they signed him out of desperation or to have a name guy.
The OL played better overall, but passing 50+ times eventually wears them down. Seumalo struggled, but the rest were at least solid and gave Wentz a good amount of time in the pocket.
Wentz had a mixed game, but showed a lot of moxie and toughness playing in a loud stadium against a very good D that knew he was going to pass every play. He does hold onto the ball too long, take too many sacks and make some bad decisions, but this was a hard assignment for a young QB and his HC did not make it any easier.
Blount has never needed reps to produce his entire NFL career. Has been a short yardage/late game bruiser his entire career, especially with the patriots (barring 2016).
Run pass ratio really is not that vital in a west coast system, and it only go that extremely unbalanced late when they had to pass against the clock trying to catch up.
Blount has said himself he needs enough reps to get into a rhythm – he said it just last week after the first game.
Run/pass ratio does matter – balance is needed so a defense does not know what is coming, so our young QB can develop effectively, so our young QB does not get killed and so the opposing defense has to play every facet of the offense.
They ran the ball 8 times in the first half and 5 times in the second half. That is HORRIBLE and Pederson rightly stated in the post-game PC that the run game is broken and needs to be fixed. If Reid had done that here, he would have been and was routinely killed.
Totally agree the lack of running game undid us today the most of anything. They need to commit to it and straighten it out.
They need a much better pass to run balance in this league .
Id disagree and say our identity is pass heavy, whether you like that or not
Certainly has been that way these first two games. And it was not just in second halves or 4th quarters. Pederson has passed overwhelmingly from the first snap.
I have mixed feelings about the running game thing. Wentz was able to move the ball through the air. Whenever they went to the run, it seemed like it got stuffed and we ended up in second or third and long, unless it was Sproles carrying the ball, and as you say you can’t give it to him 25 times a game.
They need to improve their ability to run the ball for sure, but I think if they’d prioritized it here it would have lessened their chances to win this particular game. So it’s tough to fault Doug for leaning so heavily on what was working.
Not going to happen with Kelce and Seamulo especially against a 3-4 defense.
But it only worked sporadically which is the point.
Wentz got sacked 6 times, threw one mind boggling INT under pressure, almost lost a fumble under pressure and was generally chased or harassed in and out of the pocket all day. Why? Because the Chiefs D knew they were only going to pass and could rush without worrying about the run. That INT unfortunately led to the winning TD for the Chiefs.
The pass game had success, sure, but we left points on the field and it places Wentz in a situation where he has to be perfect and the OL has zero chance to impose their will. They are back pedaling the whole game and eventually wore down.
There’s no way I wants 46 passes to 13 runs by RBs and Wentz to be teed off on. If it continues he’ll get injured too. But it was a tough opponent.
They have a strategic plan it’s probably just not on your timetable. I didn’t think we were getting everything this year.
My timetable does not matter, I want them to win a SB every year like any fan. The key is what is their timetable? I’d love to know and understand how they plan to put the pieces together. It is a difficult process – but I do not see a present or future at RB so far this season.
You didn’t think we should expect to have an effective run game this season?
With a young developing QB, it is critical to relieve pressure off him and not have him taking regular hits/sacks every game. Plus in combo with our good D, it certainly would help to have an effective run game to help run clock and control games.
They clearly went for D – Barnett, Jernigan, Jones, and Douglas… no OL or RB at top of draft and that was ok with me. We tried dream team, fans said build through the draft, now they don’t have patience to do that?
Shit they didn’t have any WRs when McNabb started until they got T.O.
It’s year 2 and 1st for Wentz when he was man in camp.
Defense and WRs are also critical.
You have expectation of winning Super Bowls instantly? Really …that’s not building a roster or team to me. That’s expecting magic.
Alright, friends. I’m not sticking around for the postgame butthurt. Same time next week?
Gotta watch the Cowboys lose. That will make things feel a lot better.
Noland Carroll doing Noland Carroll things.
I’m not a huge fan of Mills, but I’d take him in a heartbeat over Nolan No-Look Carroll.
Mills is really stepping up for a young guy, drafted in the 6th round. I have nothing but respect for him, and really think he is an asset at the moment.
He didn’t step up last week.
Jumping up and making a great play on the ball in the endzone, saving a TD isn’t? Endzone int?
The end zone into was due to a blitzes rushing Cousins into a throw right into his hands. His receiver was open for a TD but the pass was nowhere near the receiver.
He gave up 10 passes for over 100 yards in 15 attempts. I don’t know how that could be qualified as anything other than poor. Just because he didn’t give up a 75 yard TD does not make it a good game.
That wasn’t his guy. He was in zone. How many free INTs have we seen dropped and then lost a game over the years? Give credit where credit due man. He is the best 7th round pick I can ever remember.
10 catches for over a hundred yards but let’s give the guy credit for catching a ball thrown right at him because other defensive backs have stone hands.
I guess we will see what Tommy has to say in the DGR and then pick this up after.
That was last week’s game.
Oh got mixed up in the different conversations. DGR from last week seemed to agree with me though. He looks good to me this year.
Shit I expected to get gutted by Hill and we didn’t . Even when McLeod got hurt. In my book everyone in the secondary gets a gold star.
I’m was very happy with the DB play this week. I figured Alex Smith would be under pressure and take the check-downs. It seems the philosophy so far this season is allowing underneath completions and the tighten up the coverage in the red zone when the field is shortened.
I fully expect Mills will be relegated to the bench next year with Darby and Jones starting and Rasul manning the slot.
One of the biggest things to me all through the last game was how they would allow those underneath catches, but actually doing a terrific job of coming up to make tackles.
Rasul Douglas and Mills are outstanding at tackling. Far cry from the Assante/Lito days of avoiding contact.
It could be worse, Trevor Siemian could be our QB. How did he miss Demaryius Thomas there.
You know I was thinking about the big plays and then I got to thinking about the McLeod injury. Coincident? Think not.
The Eagles had 46 pass attempts and 13 rushes by RBs. You can’t win much with that imbalance. Credit to KC too but we can’t keep doing that.
It was worse, Wentz scrambled 4 times when pass plays broke down too.
Watching Rob Kelly carve up a good Stl. D makes me like our D even more.
Hello? DirecTV. Where my Dallas game go? I dont need skins twice.
weather
Was nice to see Stiff arm get his first couple NFL catches today.
This was a very Reid-esque game including the post game where Pederson gave generic answers about needing to improve things & giving credit to the other team in the post-game press conference.
Pederson seems like he is learning a bit in regards to the post-game press conference. Going to get criticized to a degree regardless and even more so when the Eagles’ lose. Why give the Eagles’ beat writers any red meat or candidly answer a question?
McLane and Roob don’t need red meat, they can sling it with or without any explanations.
The run/pass ratio, the gameplan to put too much weight on one man’s shoulders, reminds one of mid-late Reid/Eagles.
Wentz got sacked a career-high 6 times today and hit another 10 times officially (little debate on the post-game about that number).
Wentz isn’t going to make it through the season taking anywhere near that kind of weekly punishment.
a lot of that was on him
I put it more on lack of a running game and KC teeing off on him.
Some of it was but 4 of those sacks came in the 2nd half when they got behind and Chiefs unleashed their share of pressure especially in the interior.
Ertz had a good game receiving but he got blown up a few times on pass production today. Houston went right around him on his sack.
RB blitz pickup wasn’t much better. Sproles is just too small to pick up blitzes up the middle.
He needs to pull the trigger when he has time. Make some NFL throws. Can’t wait for someone to get wide open every play. Kind of down on him after this game.
I think Wentz is in that Cam Newton/Roethlisberger mold, can take an obscene amount of punishment and keep on trucking.
Both those QB have been injured/banged up a lot during their careers – not what I’d like to emulate with Wentz. I’d like an Eli-like career for Carson.
Kansas City and Washington both had good defensive lines. Eventually we’ll play a team with a good secondary and bad defensive line.
Still don’t know what to make of Wentz’s performance today. Made some nice plays with his legs & a few nice throws including the TD to Agholor. Also had at least 4 drops again today (Smith 2, Agholor 1, Jeffrey 1).
Pederson said Wentz threw some nice deep balls today that were accurate in the post game. I bet the numbers on his pass attempts on 20+ yards would refute that and the game tape.
Struggled again today with the screen passes and should have just thrown it away on the deflected INT. Also had 3-4 balls that the Chiefs’ DBs/LBs dropped and could have intercepted too.
I guess I would say it was satisfactory and the coach asking him to do too much like it a lot way too often in the 2nd half last year.
What would you do if you’re offensive line cannot open holes for the running game? Pass the ball or keep getting stuffed for no gain?
Sproles ran fairly effectively and they had 3 carries to Smalwood/0 to Blount.
Media guys are going to pound on Pederson about it this week and there is some valid points of criticism.
I’d use a hard count to keep the DL from teeing off quite so much.
I don’t think that was possible today with the noise level. At home, yes.
I would have Wentz run more which he did and get the screen game going
6.3 yards/carry by my count.
QB scrambles inflate that greatly. Wentz was 4 for 55.
Still 4 YPC without the scrambles. You can work with that.
The gains were in the first quarter. After that, little to no running room.
He was very good through the tipped ball int. Still expect growing pains and it was a tough opponent and place to play.
I have always said he makes a big mistake 1 or 2 times a game and that’s my biggest concern with him. If you do that you have to be like Favre and pull it out in the end.
Wentz was up against it today even before Pederson went pass-heavy and largely ignored the run game.
KC has a very good D and Arrowhead is very tough to play in. The INT was an attempt by Wentz to throw it away according to his PC, but it bounced off a helmet and was an easy pick. Bad execution unfortunately.
Wentz is really good at the mid-range throws, flawless really. The touch on short balls is erratic and the long ball needs work. 18 games into his career, it will hopefully come with more time.
Usually plays like the ones where Smith “dropped” it, you call those a PBU. If I am not wrong…
I’m probably a bit down on Carson honestly. I feel like his touch outside the hash marks really needs improvement.
Play calling and run/pass ratio rants aside, this team overall played a tough, strong and relentless game vs a very good opponent on the road. Kudos for that.
Any word on McLeod or Watkins injuries?
Play of the game though was the Curry missed sack and Smith somehow scrambling for a 1st down.
I don’t know how Curry missed wrapping Smith up when he had a clear shot at him. Chiefs have to punt there if Smith gets dropped & it is still a 13-13 game.
Is it bad I feel like he was tired, and he kind of half-assed it after beating his man?
I think that is unfair – Curry played hard from what I saw and the missed sacks seemed to be a result of over-running Smith rather than dogging it
I hope…but I just couldn’t help but think “why are you leaving your feet right now?”
We miss about 3 sacks a game
Chiefs’ defense really impressed me today even without Berry and Peters supposedly at 80-90%. Logan had a pretty good game too and was able to cause problems for Kelce (big shock) most of the game.
Did a nice job of mixing up the pressure in the 2nd half and using Sorensen in some creative ways to generate pressure on a few blitzes.
Hard for me to evaluate interior O-line, but I wasn’t able to see any plays where I could point Kelce out for something bad. Seo made him look bad a couple times for sure though.
Seumalo gave up 3 sacks and 3 QBs hit today. Woof.
Curious to see other OL stats and if this was the worst game in pass protection for an Eagles’ OL since the infamous Winston Justice debut vs Giants.
