Game Preview – NFC CG – SF at PHI

Nothing more, nothing less, at least according to Nick Sirianni. That mentality has served his team well as the Eagles went 14-3 in the regular season and then dominated the Giants last week. Don’t try to get up for big games. Get up for all games. Focus on execution and fundamentals. Execution fuels emotion. You don’t score a TD because you’re fired up. You get fired up because you score a TD.
We’ll see if this mentality is able to get the Eagles to the Super Bowl.
Sirianni has had a great year. I think he gives the Eagles an advantage in today’s game. I’m not alone in that.
The Eagles have an edge today at the margins: Fourth down decisions, short yardage, red zone and timeout usage. That’s coaching! pic.twitter.com/N2eXeS2HIa

Sirianni and his coaches have a healthy team to work with. The only starter missing is punter Arryn Siposs. Avonte Maddox has been out a few weeks, but he will be active today.

I assume Maddox will be back in the slot with CJ Gardner-Johnson moving full time back to FS. Jonathan Gannon may get a little creative. He’ll certainly have options. Reed Blankenship can be mixed in as the third safety.
No surprises among the Eagles inactives.
As for the Niners.
#49ers inactives for NFC Championship vs. Eagles:
QB Jimmy Garoppolo
RB Elijah MItchell
RB Ty Davis-Price
TE Ross Dwelley
OL Nick Zakelj
DL Drake Jackson
CB Ambry Thomas— Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoNBCS) January 29, 2023
Mitchell led SF with 51 rushing yards last week. Now he’s on the bench. Christian McCaffrey isn’t 100 percent. He’s dealing with a calf issue, but should be fine. If he gets banged up the Niners will have to rely on rookie Jordan Mason or veteran Tevin Coleman. That is something to watch. Deebo Samuel will run out of the backfield at times, but they don’t want him back there a lot.
The Eagles have been the best team all year. They should be ready for this moment. They have an advantage at QB. Jalen Hurts has had a great season, playing at a level no one expected. This is the biggest game of his football life, but Hurts will go out there and be in the moment. I might be nervous, but he’ll be locked in.
The Eagles win if they don’t turn the ball over. SF has done a great job at coming up with takeaways. If the Eagles can negate that, they have key advantages they can exploit.
I think the Eagles will need a big game from AJ Brown and/or DeVonta Smith. It won’t shock me if Hurts goes deep on the opening drive.
I think Haason Reddick needs a big game. He can affect Purdy and help the defense to make plays.
You go through all the offseason stuff, Training Camp, preseason and regular season games to get to a moment like this. That’s true for the players and coaches, but also the fans. There are 28 other teams who would kill to be playing today. I can certainly think of one down in Texas.
Enjoy the game and go Eagles!!!
