2025 Senior Bowl – Day 2

We know the Eagles had amazing success turning edge rusher Zack Baun into an ILB. They could have interest in Oluwafemi Oladejo, who began his UCLA career at MLB before shifting to the edge. Oladejo had a real strong showing on Wednesday. He is 6-3, 261 and the kind of versatile edge that Vic Fangio would like. He dropped back in coverage and looked good. He showed the ability to win off the edge with burst and a good shoulder dip. Then check out this rep with him rushing inside.

Oladejo was a good run defender on the edge at UCLA. He is the kind of complete player Fangio likes. And if you think about last year, the Eagles drafted Jalyx Hunt who had a background as a DB.

I’m not sure Marshall’s Mike Green makes as much sense for the Eagles. He is 6-3, 251 and is more of a pure speed rusher. He has impressed in both practices so far and might not make it out of the first round. He is quick and athletic. He is relentless. Green will make some team happy.

Florida State DL Joshua Farmer would be an interesting target. He is 6-3, 314 and also athletic. He’s got the size to play NT if needed, but has the athleticism to be disruptive as a 3-tech or 5-tech. Farmer moves well for a guy his size. He can win as a pass rusher with power or a quick burst and good rip move.

Jamaree Caldwell is another intriguing DL. He is 6-2, 342. Why go for a NT when you already have Jordan Davis? Caldwell played NT for Oregon this year. He played for Houston the previous three years and got moved around. His Houston tape is really fun to watch. Caldwell moves well for such a big dude. He has a very good motor. I would like to see him drop down to 325 to 330. I think that would help him to be more of a playmaker. But he can still move at his current size.

Caldwell’s teammate Jeffrey Bassa is probably the best ILB in Mobile. At 6-1, 226, he is built for the modern game. Bassa has looked good so far. He had the fastest speed of any LB or TE on Day 1 (20.36 mph). Bassa broke up a pass in coverage today. He is a fluid, agile athlete. He is comfortable playing in space or in traffic. Bassa can shed blocks and find the football on run plays.

Minnesota’s Cody Lindenberg has good size at 6-2, 239. I enjoyed watching his game tape. Fun player. Lindenberg had a mostly good showing on Wednesday. He had a couple of highlight plays with a nice INT over the middle and a FF on a screen pass. There were also a couple of coverage plays where he couldn’t keep up with RBs 1-on-1.

CB Quincy Riley had a good showing on Day 2. The 5-10, 193 prospect broke up multiple passes. He dropped what should have been an INT. He doesn’t have ideal size, but is physical and really battles WRs. One of the most impressive things about him is that he doesn’t panic. If the WR gets a bit of separation, Riley keeps going and gives himself a chance to make the play.

Western Michigan CB Bilhal Kone is having a good week. He has good size at 6-1, 186. Kone has quick feet and moves well. He is really good when things are in front of him and he can break on the ball. Kone is a bit more erratic down the field. He can cover, but doesn’t always locate the ball quickly. The Eagles did pretty well with taking a CB from a MAC team last year.

Let’s shift over to the offense. QB Dillon Gabriel had another good day. He is the most polished QB in Mobile. He’s also the most experienced and I think you can see the impact that has. Gabriel is smart and accurate. He makes quick reads. He isn’t special physically, but knows how to play QB. Might not be a starter, but there is a place in the league for him.

Louisville QB Tyler Shough has the size and arm strength that Gabriel doesn’t. Shough is a solid athlete and can be a playmaker. He’s not always the smoothest QB, but he’s got a lot of potential and has been pretty good in Mobile. Shough throws well on the move. Interesting prospect.

Kenny Gainwell is a free agent this year and the Eagles might need to draft a RB. One guy of interest is Damien Martinez from Miami. He has good size at 5-11, 226. He averaged more than 6 yards per carry for his career. Martinez had multiple good inside runs today. He is patient, but not slow. Good vision.

Donovan Edwards has solid size at 5-11, 215, but he plays like a smaller back. The Michigan star is athletic and has big play potential. He gave LBs fits in the 1-on-1 passing drills. Even Jeffrey Bassa struggled against him. Edwards put a hard move on one LB and the guy fell to the ground. Edwards has big potential, but was inconsistent in college and that will affect his value.

Jaylin Noel from Iowa State looks like the best receiver in Mobile. He has the speed to get by CBs. He’s also got the skill to get open on underneath routes. Noel has good hands and can make tough catches. This was one of the plays of the day.

Tez Johnson had another strong day. He’s only 5-9, 156, but the dude knows how to get open and he’s got good hands. Johnson won’t appeal to all teams, but someone who likes small slot receivers will have a spot for him. He is impressive.

WR Kyle Williams has had a pair of really good days. He is 5-10, 182 and gets a really good release. He’s able to create separation with hard cuts and outstanding body control. Williams has enough speed to get deep. He has been tough to cover.

TE Elijah Arroyo is impressive. He has a lean, athletic build. He runs good routes and gets open. Arroyo can pluck the ball with ease. He catches it out away from his body. Natural receiver. Arroyo is a good downfield receiver. He’s also dangerous on short throws because of his RAC ability.

North Dakota State OL Grey Zabel had another outstanding day. He has played G and C, after playing LT in college. Zabel looks at home on the inside. He plays with good leverage. He anchors well. Zabel has good feet and uses his hands well. He’s made himself money with his showing in Mobile. I’m sure the Eagles would have interest, but he will go in the 25 to 40 range and I don’t know they would take him there with so many other resources already in the OL.

Iowa State LT Jalen Travis is 6-8, 341. We know Jeff Stoutland likes big dudes so Travis passes that test. He had some impressive blocks today. Travis is smart and uses his size well. He is a Princeton grad who transferred to ISU for his final season. He is the kind of interesting person who would fit in well on the Eagles OL.

Jonah Monheim has impressed me in both practices. He has solid size for a center at 6-4, 307. Monheim played OT at USC, but he has short arms and has to move inside. He’s looked comfortable inside so far. Monheim is good with his hands and has active feet. His base can get too wide at times, but that can be fixed with coaching. He will also need to work on anchoring better against DTs in pass pro.

Caleb Rogers played 4 different OL spots at Texas Tech. He is concentrating on G/C in Mobile. Rogers has been up and down. He has solid size, but has gotten pushed around at times. He’s also won his share of battles. The problems tend to come when he gets out over his feet and doesn’t have good balance.

AMERICAN TEAM

QB Jalen Milroe had a better showing on Day 2.  I thought his footwork was better, but still not ideal. He showed off a strong arm on multiple throws. Milroe threw some good deep balls, including a couple that were right on the money. I’m glad he played better, but he was still inconsistent overall. There was one play where he got pressured and threw a bad INT. That’s not going to impress the scouts/coaches watching practice.

Jaxson Dart is the best QB on the American team. He had a good day and is making a case that he should be the third QB taken. Dart is athletic and has a good arm. He made some tight window throws and showed good overall accuracy.

QB Riley Leonard threw some good deep balls. He is still an inconsistent passer, but he’s got good tools. Leonard playing in the Senior Bowl is smart and a good look. A lot of Ohio St and Notre Dame players dropped out since their season ran so long. Leonard wanted a chance to compete and show what he can do. Teams will like that.

Another good day for RB Brashard Smith. He was outstanding in the passing game. He also lined up as the KOR. RBs who can contribute in multiple ways have more value. Smith can get open 1-on-1. He has good hands and is able to adjust to off-target throws. He’s also a good runner.

Marcus Yarns lacks ideal size at 5-10, 189. He’s got a thin build, which isn’t something you want in a RB. The Delaware star has looked good in the practices. He stands out in the passing drills, consistently showing the ability to break away from defenders and get wide open. Yarns has also looked good as a runner. Interesting role player.

WR Jalen Royals had another good day. He has a thick build and is a physical player. He has strong hands and catches the ball smoothly. My kind of receiver.

Arkansas receiver Isaac TeSlaa has good size at 6-3, 212. He caught my eye a few times on Wednesday. TeSlaa made a terrific downfield catch after fighting through contact from the CB. He does a good job of locating the ball on deep routes. TeSlaa has good body control and adjusts well to the ball. I need to watch more tape of him.

Jack Bech has looked good this week. He plays through contact and is able to adjust to the ball. He’s got good hands. Bech doesn’t always get a lot of separation, but he’s strong enough to make contested catches.

Let’s talk about TEs. Mason Taylor is the son of former NFL star Jason Taylor. Mason is a legit Top 50 prospect with his combination of size, athleticism and skill. He has good hands and catches the ball with ease. Good RAC ability. Good route runner. Willing blocker. The Eagles could have interest in a player like him.

Clemson TE Jake Briningstool had another good day. He is an athletic TE with good hands. He made multiple catches in tight traffic. I appreciate the way he plucks the ball so smoothly. If you want a TE who lines up in the slot, he is of definite interest. Not ideal as an in-line player.

Jackson Hawes is the TE I love. Good size. Solid athlete. Effective receiver. Great blocker. I saw him make a few catches on Wednesday. He won’t make you forget Tony Gonzalez anytime soon, but he could be a very good role player. Look at this blocking.

Emery Jones played RT for LSU and had a great career. He did not have a great showing on Wednesday. Jones struggled with multiple rushers. I was talking to a coach in the stands and he said Jones was just too much of a waist-bender. OL must bend their knees to be effective blockers. Jones had some success later in the practice session so I give him credit for continuing to battle and not falling apart. We know a former Eagles OT who would melt down at times when he struggled.

UNC center Willie Lampkin is 5-10, 270. That is tiny for an OL. But the dude can play. He has good feet. He plays with good leverage (you can’t help that at his size). Lampkin anchors well despite the lack of bulk. Fran Duffy and I were talking about what to do with him. He can obviously play, but that’s too small for the NFL. We’ll see if he can add weight between now and the Combine or his Pro Day.

Jackson Slater from Sacramento State has helped himself with a strong showing so far. He has played G and C. He is smart and plays with good awareness. He can re-set after initial contact. Slater plays with a wide base and has very good feet. He plays with good balance. Impressive prospect.

Clay Webb is another small school player who has impressed. He is from Jacksonville State. Webb is a G prospect who plays strong and anchors well. He’s got good feet. He has faced some SEC studs and won most of his battles. Webb has solid size at 6-3, 310.

There were some real standouts on defense. Edge Shemar Stewart showed a complete skill set. He set the edge on a run play and bottled that up. He had multiple sacks. Stewart showed the ability to win with speed and power. He has great size at 6-5, 281. He wasn’t productive in the regular season, but he’s got big time ability.

Edge rusher Barryn Sorrell from Texas could interest the Eagles. He is 6-4, 253, which I think is the kind of size Fangio prefers over smaller guys. Sorrell is a good run defender. He can set the edge, shed and go get the ball. He is a good pass rusher with solid athleticism. He has strong hands and is a physical player. He put at least one OT on the ground.

RJ Oben is an active, athletic rusher. He had multiple sacks on Wednesday. The Notre Dame star might remind you of a bigger version of Haason Reddick (6-3, 255). He is the son of former OT Roman Oben so he’s got good bloodlines.

Walter Nolen is the best DT in Mobile. He left today’s practice with an injury. Hopefully it isn’t anything serious. Nolen has looked good in the practices. He is an explosive DL with terrific agility. Plays with good leverage.

Deone Walker is a frustrating player. He’s 6-7, 340 and a good athlete. There are reps when he just dominates. He can overwhelm blockers with his size and power. He can also win with a quick burst. The problem is that he plays too high too often and gets blocked more than he should.

Demetrius Knight looks like an old school LB at 6-1, 246. He had the hit of the day when he got out wide on a run play and popped the RB. It wasn’t violent, but it was hard enough that it got the runner’s attention. There isn’t supposed to be full tackling or hitting in these practices. The question with Knight is whether he’s athletic enough to be a starting LB. He showed some coverage limitations in the practices.

LB Jack Kiser is only 6-1, 227 so he doesn’t have Knight’s strength. But Kiser had several good coverage reps in 1-on-1 drills. He picked off a pass in a team drill. You need LBs who can play on passing downs.

Maryland safety Dante Trader is an interesting prospect. He also played lacrosse at UM. Trader had some good moments on Wednesday. He broke up at least one pass I saw and covered well on others. He had a good run stop as well.

Kentucky CB Maxwell Hairston is probably the best CB on the American team. He is smaller than you like, at only 5-11, 179. He is really sticky in coverage and plays the ball well. Hairston has looked good in both practices.
