Better or Worse
Posted September 1st, 2025 | 3 Comments »The Eagles had the best roster in the NFL last year and that helped them to win the Super Bowl. An interesting question is whether the roster could be even better this season?
Before you shout “No!” remember what you thought of the Eagles at this time last year. Zack Baun had played well in camp, but no one expected him to be All Pro. Saquon Barkley hadn’t run for 2,000 yards. Nakobe Dean hadn’t put together a good season in his career. Mekhi Becton was unknown at RG. Nolan Smith was an underachiever. Rookie DBs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean were promising, but certainly not stars. There were plenty of questions. The Eagles got favorable answers to most of them.
There are more questions this year. Can Tyler Steen play well at RG? Will Jahan Dotson take a big step forward? Do the Eagles have a good enough set of edge rushers? Will Jordan Davis take a big step forward? Can Moro Ojomo replace Milton Williams? Who will step up at safety? Will someone play well enough at CB2 to keep the defense at a high level?
It isn’t likely that the Eagles will get good answers to everything. They just need good answers at the key questions and you can see where the roster could end up better than last year. Beyond those questions, it is possible that some good players will be even better. Jalen Hurts and Jalen Carter still haven’t reached their ceilings.
The Eagles bring back a lot of talent and star players. There will be enough new blood to keep things interesting. We’re all looking forward to see what rookies Jihad Campbell and Drew Mukuba do this season. I don’t know if there is a player I’m more excited about than Ojomo. He had a great summer and could be the breakout player this season. Jordan Rodrigue chose Ojomo as the Under the Radar player to watch from the Eagles.
Ojomo, a seventh-round pick in 2023, has drawn praise from inside the Eagles’ building and from analysts outside of it since spring and summer workouts began. Recently, PHLY’s Bo Wulf did a locker room survey of which player teammates felt would break out this season, and Ojomo ran away with the vote. Ojomo will fill Milton Williams’ former role after Williams signed with the Patriots in free agency. He is an especially solid run defender who may gain more confidence — and opportunities — as a pass rusher in 2025.
The Eagles assistant coaches have done a brilliant job of developing players in recent years. This season will give them a huge opportunity to show just how good they are at getting the most out of young and new players. According to Jimmy Bama the Eagles have the second youngest team in the league. If they play at a high level, you have to give a ton of credit to the front office for finding the talent and the coaching staff for developing the players.

The Eagles really surprised me on Sunday.
We’ve signed OL Kenyon Green to the active roster and WR Terrace Marshall to the practice squad. pic.twitter.com/QwK2cGaLFa

Green struggled in camp and the preseason games. He did play better in the finale against the Jets, but hardly looked like a player I would trust. The move makes a bit more sense today. Landon Dickerson missed practice with a back injury. If Brett Toth has to start, the team may want Green to be the backup LG.
Green does have plenty of starting experience. He is talented. As good as Jeff Stoutland is, he wasn’t able to fix Green this summer. The Eagles have kept Green around (PS, now roster) so Stout must see something he likes. Let’s hope Green doesn’t get on the field on Thursday.
Fingers crossed.
Despite Landon Dickerson not practicing today, it doesn’t mean he won’t play on Thursday night, from my understanding. In fact, still believe there’s a greater chance he plays than not. https://t.co/KVXm2dxLIl

Eagles PR/WR Britain Covey is excited to be back in Philly after signing to the practice squad following his release from the Rams.
His injury last year was a nerve issue in his shoulder/neck after a broken shoulder. He tried to come back during last season but the injury…

I thought the team might put Covey on the roster. They leave him on the PS for now. It seems like you would want to elevate him for this game since the PR spot is unresolved. You don’t want DeJean back there on a regular basis. You could go with Dotson to see how he does. Dotson was a good returner at Penn State.
I’ve noticed quite a few people asking who would handle punt returns for the Eagles if they were to waive Ainias Smith.
Jahan Dotson was reportedly working with the punt returners during training camp and averaged 13.5 yards per punt return on 25 total returns at Penn State. pic.twitter.com/tL0QYAdUIN
