2025 Game Review – PHI 10, GB 7
Posted November 13th, 2025 | 1 Comment »Lambeau Field. Good teams. November weather. The game had all the makings of a terrific Monday night battle. It was great if you love defense, but not so much if you wanted points and excitement. The QB play for both teams was lacking. And the coaches felt like they were more concerned with not losing than actually winning. Still, the Eagles and Packers gave us a game that went down to the wire. It was compelling, if not exciting.
The Eagles won the Super Bowl in February. The Packers looked like the best team in the league at the beginning of this season. We all expected a great game that might resemble the playoffs. What we saw was a pair of defenses that played at a high level and got the best of the offenses. Newly acquired Jaelan Phillips made a real difference for the Eagles. Their pass rush came alive and made Jordan Love uncomfortable all night. That was the defense we saw in some big games last year. It offers a lot of hope for the second half of the season.
We can’t give the defenses all the credit. The offenses were sloppy and hurt themselves with bad penalties, costly drops and sloppy execution. Give the Eagles credit for making a couple of more plays. That proved to be the difference in the game.
There was something odd about the game. The teams mirrored each other at times. Both offenses had a turnover in scoring territory. Both teams had an OL get hurt and leave the game. Both teams jumped offside on QB sneaks/Tush Push plays. And both got away with it.
Say what you want about this Eagles team, but they do win. They have now beaten the Rams, Bucs, Packers, Vikings and Chiefs. It might not have been pretty, but never take winning at Lambeau for granted.
COACHING
Nick Sirianni didn’t have his best game. He got conservative at the end of the first half and focused on running out the clock. He had his team go for it on fourth down at the end of the game when the rest of the world wanted him to punt. Sirianni got away with that, but it made the end crazier than it should have been. I don’t blame him for passing on the FG at the end, but you have to punt that ball and push the Packers back as far as you can.
Kevin Patullo got a lot of flak for the offenses struggles. Some of that was definitely fair. I do think we have to keep in mind that GB was 5th in defense coming into the game. They shut down the Lions in the season opener (13 points). The offense had three impressive drives. The rest of the game, not so much. Patullo had a few nice calls. The designed run with Hurts on third down was good. The TD to Smitty was good. There was a run with Saquon as the FB that was well-designed and worked. The play-action game was not effective. The Eagles were too predictable by formation/personnel.
Vic Fangio had an outstanding game. He got some people frustrated late in the game. They said Fangio went to soft coverage. He always plays some soft coverage. That’s his philosophy. Keep things in front of you and go tackle. The Packers got more aggressive late and quit running the ball. That helped them to score their only points of the game. The Eagles were creative with their looks and personnel. The players were coached well enough that they knew some GB plays before they happened. That’s always impressive.
Michael Clay’s STs didn’t deliver any key plays. The return game was solid.
OFFENSE
Jalen Hurts was disappointing. He went 15-26-183 with a TD pass. He also lost a fumble with the team in scoring position. Hurts just looked off all night. He wasn’t comfortable. He had a couple of bad throws to the left flat that could have been picked off. There was a throw across his body to DG that could have been picked. Hurts had a chance to hit Calcaterra for a potential TD, but the pass was too high. Even the TD pass was a problem. If he puts the ball out in front of DeVonta, that’s an easy TD. Instead the ball was late and DeVonta had to make a leaping catch over the DB.
Give Hurts credit for doing enough to win, but he needs to play better for the offense to get where it needs to.
Saquon Barkley was 22-60 on the ground. He had a 41-yard catch and run that set up the Eagles only TD. Saquon made a great move in space, spinning by the DB and getting upfield. He would have added a 55-yard TD run if not for Micah Parsons tripping him. No penalty was called on the play.
Will Shipley was 4-17 as a runner and 2-17 as a receiver. He made a tough catch on the move on Hurts best play of the night. That moved the chains. Tank Bigsby was 3-7 as a runner.
DeVonta Smith had a good game, going 4-69-1. His highlight was a 36-yard TD catch. Smith made a good adjustment and went up and got the ball. He also made a good third down catch that moved the chains. That was downfield and along the sideline. Smitty almost broke loose on a quick screen. A good tackle kept that from being a big play.
DeVonta Smith turns 27 on Friday. This season he’s on pace for:
– 91 receptions (4 shy of a career-high)
– 1,241 receiving yards (career-high)
– 4 game-winning touchdowns
– 0 drops
– 0 Interceptions when targetedAbsolute stud. pic.twitter.com/FcphnoAEmX

AJ Brown went 2-13. He had a chance to make a big catch on the final play, but couldn’t get to the ball. Some people didn’t like his effort on the play. I thought it was okay. He could have sold the contact better to try and draw a flag, but the throw wasn’t ideal.
Dallas Goedert was 4-43 as a receiver. His blocking needed to be better. Grant Calcaterra was wide open for a big play, but Hurts overthrew him. Grant showed solid effort on some of his run blocks.
Green Bay was not credited with a QB hit or sack. That’s crazy for a team with Micah Parsons and Rashan Gary. A lot of people deserve credit. We’ll start with the OL. They kept the Packers rush under control most of the time. The coaches kept in extra blockers a fair amount to make sure Parsons didn’t wreck the game. Also credit Hurts. He was smart about running and threw the ball away when he needed to.
Lane Johnson got hurt in late 2nd Qtr. Fred Johnson stepped in and did a solid job. Lane came back in the fourth quarter. Fred had some mistakes. He got driven back into Hurts and caused a throw to come up short. He also missed a LB on a run block and that led to a TFL. Fred did have a highlight block on the screen to DeVonta.

Brett Toth got the start at center. He was okay, but not as good as the Giants game. He was called for holding on a run play. Tyler Steen was solid. Jordan Mailata helped to limit Parsons, but did have some notable mistakes. He was called for two false starts. He slipped and fell while pulling. That blew up the play and led to a TFL.
The line did some good things to be sure, but was more sloppy than you would have liked.
DEFENSE
Jaelan Phillips made his Eagles debut memorable.
.@Eagles @packers @JJPhillips15 had some special kind of debut. When he said he felt like he won the lottery; he was serious. The defense never played better all year. #FlyEaglesFly #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/qKIiysqrLd

Terrific start. Let’s hope he can build off that. The DL played their best game of the season and Phillips was one of the key reasons. He played 53 snaps, more than any other edge rusher. BG and Nolan Smith combined for 19 reps. BG had a chance for a TFL, but missed the tackle. Smith had 2 tackles, a sack and 2 QB hits. It was good to have him back. Jalyx Hunt had 5 tackles, a sack and a TFL. Another solid showing from him.
The DTs also played well. Jalen Carter had 3 tackles and 2 pass deflections. He was disruptive and had some good moments against the run. Moro Ojomo didn’t make any tackles, but had a couple of QB hits. He was disruptive. The highlight was when he called out “inside zone” on a fourth down run. The Eagles blew that play up. Jordan Davis was in on 3 tackles and was good against the run. Byron Young played some and had a TFL.
Nakobe Dean had 7 tackles, a sack and a FF. He’s made more of an impact than I expected. Good for him. And the defense. Some guys might have pouted after Jihaad Campbell was drafted. Nakobe worked his butt off and waited for his chance to get back on the field.
8) Remember when athletes took time to return to form after a serious injury? Nakobe Dean hasn’t missed a beat since returning.
The Eagles have missed his ability to blitz up the middle. Here, he rocks Josh Jacobs and forces Jordan Love into a stupid mistake, which gives the… pic.twitter.com/V1AD9tC1br

I love the way he just tosses Josh Jacobs out of the way. Nakobe is a rugged LB. Zack Baun led the team with 8 tackles. He was good in coverage and solid against inside runs. Campbell played OLB and ILB. He was credited with 4 tackles.
Reed Blankenship had a good game. He was solid in coverage and was aggressive in coming down in run support. He finished with 7 tackles, a FF and a FR. Drew Mukuba didn’t make a lot of plays. He was in on 2 tackles. Mukuba had deep coverage responsibility a decent amount. He kept guys from getting behind him and closed to the ball a couple of times.
Quinyon Mitchell played a terrific game. He had 2 tackles and 2 pass breakups. He was outstanding in coverage all night.

Q is so, so good. Cooper DeJean had another good showing. He was in on 5 tackles and covered well. Adoree Jackson got the start at CB2 and didn’t get targeted very much. I thought GB might go after him, but they didn’t. He finished with 3 tackles and a PD.
ST
Jake Elliott hit his only FG.
Braden Mann averaged 47.6 yards per punt. He had one bomb go 66 yards, but also had a bad shank.
Xavier Gipson had a 15-yd PR and a 27-yd KOR. He’s done a solid job as the team’s returner.
Kelee Ringo had a costly penalty. Mann had a punt downed inside the 10, but Ringo was called for holding on the play. The re-kick and return put the ball beyond the 30. You hate to give up that kind of field position due to a dumb mistake.
