Game Preview – PHI at WAS
Posted December 20th, 2025 | No Comments »The NFL schedule makers hoped the NFC East title would be on the line when they lined up the Eagles and Commanders to play in Week 16. But I don’t think this is exactly what they had in mind. The Eagles can clinch the division title with a win. The Commanders are already focused on 2026. Things rarely go as planned in the NFL world.

The defense has developed into a top unit. They are 5th in points allowed and 13th in yards. Washington has a good offense and will be a much tougher test than the Raiders were. I think they will have some success moving the ball. I don’t anticipate the Commanders scoring a lot of points, though. The Eagles defense should be able to make key stops and keep them under control.
The offense will be missing Lane Johnson, as expected. They will also be missing a good role player.

Latu proved to be a valuable blocker last week. TE E.J. Jenkins was elevated to take his place.
The Eagles have plenty of motivation today. They know the stat about teams not repeating as NFC East champs. They want to break that streak. They want to secure a playoff spot. I think they also want to build on last week and get some momentum as January nears.
Washington has been up and down in recent weeks. They got up for the Eagles in a big way last year and I would expect that to happen again. They don’t have the same amount of talent and they aren’t playing as well, but the Commanders can still be dangerous if the Eagles are sloppy and don’t execute.
There was some talk this week about the Eagles needing style points to show they are a legit contender. I don’t necessarily agree with that. Go win. It would be great to see the team play at a high level, but I don’t think this has to be a blowout. Nick Sirianni will preach the need for consistency. The big thing for me is for the Eagles not to make dumb mistakes and look sloppy. If the opponent plays great and keeps the game close, so be it. You just don’t want penalties, dropped passes, missed tackles, missed kicks, etc. That’s bad football.
The Eagles played really well last week. Let’s hope that carries over and helps them beat a division rival today.
