Eagles Shock the Rams

Move over Body Bag game and Pickle Juice game. You now have some new company…The Jordan Davis game.

Everyone has been waiting for Davis to play like the guy who was drafted 13th overall back in 2022. We finally saw that guy in the insane comeback win over the Rams. He stuffed a fourth down run. He had a sack. He was in on 5 total tackles. He saved the best for last, turning the final play of the game into an all-time Eagles moment.

Blocking a FG to seal a win is off-the-charts rare. Running it back for a TD is even crazier. What makes the play even more special is that the Eagles had already blocked a FG just a few minutes before. Jalen Carter was credited with that block, but Davis was right there as well. Incredible performance by a DT. Amazing game.

This game deserves some really good analysis with all that went on. For now, I’m just going to keep it simple. How could you not after seeing a game like that? The Eagles went from rock bottom to kings of the mountain. My mind is all over the place. I can’t believe what we just saw.

If not or Davis having the game of his young career, we might call this the Fred Johnson game. Lane Johnson was knocked out of the game early on. Matt Pryor took over and the offense stunk with him in. That wasn’t all on Pryor. Johnson took over at RT in the third quarter and the offense came alive, going for 255 yards and 20 points.

It was no fun watching the Eagles get their asses kicked, but maybe that is what it took for the team to really come alive. Jalen Hurts looked like the Super Bowl MVP in the second half. He threw the ball down the field and got it to his star receivers. AJ Brown went 6-109-1 and looked like…AJ Brown. Saquon Barkley only finished 18-46, but you can’t solve every problem at once.

The defense had an odd day. They gave up too many yards. But Vic Fangio will point to his defense holding LA to 1 for 4 in the red zone as a key reason the Eagles were able to come back and win. Fangio’s guys also had a fourth down stop and an INT. They made key plays.

There is still a lot the Eagles need to get fixed, but turning a 26-7 deficit into a 33-26 win is huge. The Eagles found a way to win. Think about how the Rams must feel. They had control of the game and could not put the Eagles away. That is two straight games where the Rams had a chance to win and an Eagles DT denied them.

Jordan frickin Davis.

This is the kind of game you can build on if everyone takes it the right way.

Eagles are now 3-0, with every win being a real challenge. Don’t take those W’s for granted. Just ask Green Bay. Everyone in the media was ready to crown them after a couple of great weeks, but the Packers lost to Cleveland 13-10 on Sunday.

Winning ain’t easy.

Gameday – LAR at PHI

All the talk this week has been about the Tush Push. Believe it or not, there is actually a really compelling game. Both the Eagles and Rams are 2-0. Both have Super Bowl aspirations. And they played in an intense, compelling playoff game last season. This could be a terrific game.

Both teams have been a bit up and down this season, but each has found a way to win. This would be an ideal time for one of the teams to have a game where everything comes together, preferably the Eagles of course. In order for that to happen, the offense must come alive, especially the passing game. Chunk plays have been missing. Jalen Hurts needs to get the ball downfield to his receivers. That could mean AJ and DeVonta or even Jahan Dotson or the TEs.

It will certainly help to have Dallas Goedert back.

By going to the Super Bowl in 2 of the past 3 years and winning last season, the Eagles have become the standard in the NFC. The Rams want to know how they stack up against the best so they will be fired up for this game. The Eagles need to match that intensity. It is easier to be the hunter than the hunted.

It helps to have Saquon Barkley on your side. He ran wild against the Rams last year. They will be focused on stopping him, but I think the Eagles will be able to run. The Rams front is built more to rush the passer than stop the run.

I think Nolan Smith could have a big day. He’ll be going up against RT Rob Havenstein, a tall RT who can struggle with power rushes. Smith can win with leverage and power. Jimmy Bama pointed out in his preview that Rams RB Kyren Williams fumbled in both losses last year so you know Eagles defenders will be going after the ball any time he’s got it.

The Rams trailed at halftime in both games. They are a second half team. This would not be an ideal time for the Eagles to get off to a slow start.
