The Right Fitterer?

Eagles reportedly will interview Seattle director of college scouting Scott Fitterer. More here: http://t.co/axWJDZakid

This is a move I can really get behind.
I mentioned Fitterer in a recent post I did on candidates. He makes a ton of sense for the Eagles. Fitterer has been in the business for more than 15 years so he’s got the kind of experience that Kelly needs around him. Fitterer works for a team where the coach runs the show so he’s seen up-close how that model works and what it takes to succeed. Fitterer also works for a team that is unorthodox and does things in their own way. That would help him to work with Kelly, who isn’t exactly Mr. Conventional.
Beyond that, Fitterer has scouted the western region for a long time. Kelly loved Pac-12 players, which should be just fine with Fitterer. The two of them probably know each other from Fitterer’s days of traveling to Oregon on scouting trips. That isn’t to say they’re best friends or old buddies, but they should be familiar with each other.
One of the benefits to Fitterer would be that he’s been part of the personnel staff that built the best secondary in the NFL. If he came to the Eagles, he’d be inheriting one of the worst secondaries in the league. Even better, Seattle didn’t just throw a bunch of 1st round picks out there. Richard Sherman was a 5th round pick. Kam Chancellor was a 5th round pick. Byron Maxwell was a 6th round pick. The only early pick is Earl Thomas.
Seattle has an unusual draft strategy. They obsess on athleticism. This isn’t something the Eagles have done, but Kelly might be willing to listen to Fitterer’s ideas since they have worked very well in Seattle. To be clear, this isn’t Fitterer’s personal strategy, but rather one the entire Seahawks organization believes in.
While Fitterer’s training is in college scouting, he has seen the value of trades and free agency. Seattle traded for Marshawn Lynch, Chris Clemons, and Percy Harvin. They added key free agents in Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril and Kevin Williams. They signed CB Brandon Browner from the CFL. Seattle focused on the draft, but didn’t ignore other avenues of finding talent.
And Seattle isn’t just a bunch of early picks that paid off. The team’s 3 most important players – Lynch, Sherman, and QB Russell Wilson – all came without spending 1st round picks. This is a really good roster that was built with all kinds of players from all kinds of places.
Fitterer might be happy in Seattle, but GM John Schneider is young and isn’t likely going anywhere any time soon. If Fitterer wants to climb the ladder, he’ll need to go elsewhere. He could see Chip Kelly as his version of Pete Carroll, a great coach to work with and build an elite team with.
I think Fitterer would be an excellent choice for the Eagles. He has the right background and comes from the right kind of team. Let’s hope the interview goes well and Fitterer is someone the Eagles have on their short list.

Bad news about the podcast. There were some technical issues. Jimmy and I are going to try and record a new show on Sunday night. It will have 37% more awesomeness (less Jimmy).
_
Fitterer seems like the best match i have seen so far, although to be fair how as a fan you know who is a good behind the scenes personal guy and a leader, who is good at fostering friends in the media (feeds them info), and who is just a cog in part of good set up is almost impossible to tell.
The fact the search is taking so long shows the Eagles had no plans or prep for GM change, but with a very important draft and free agency (most important of Chips reign so far in my opinion), we need someone in place fast.
The squirrels that power your internets need more sports science.
Time to upgrade to potatos
So you’re saying this guy is more……”fit”. Yeah, he’s Fiterer for sure.
On a side note, John Harbaugh is gonna end up in the HOF. The man can coach. Great to see him have success like this.
Joe Flacco is just a brilliant example of just how much ceilings count. He can be a mediocre to poor QB during the regular season, but he has the ability to make perfect throw after perfect throw needed against postseason defenses.
Matt Stafford, otoh, is someone who really never shows up fully.
Totally agree. Think there are a lot of similarities between Foles and Flacco and their ceilings as QBs.
Flacco’s Arm >>>> Nick’s Arm
And Flacco’s feet?
Fleet compared to Nick.
Seems to me, Foles’s lack of foot speed is what could keep him from reaching the next level.
Not talking about zone-reads here.
Just moving around the field to find the open guy.
I’m a big Nick Foles guy.
Not that he can’t overcome the feet-thing.
But, jeez, if he were just a tad quicker . . . .
Saw a bunch of Brady plays where Brady’s nimbleness was a big part of him being able to make plays.
That’s the word . . . nimble.
Foles, so far, seems to be lacking that nimbleness . . .
as compared to these other guys.
Also, instincts for a muddy pocket.
Flacco’s arm is better than 90% of the nfl. Vick’s the only guy I can think of off the top of my head who’s in the same class. Doesn’t mean a thing without accuracy, anticipation, and study. Foles arm is good enough.
Cam, Rodgers, Kaepernick, Stafford.
Do we think Nick has accuracy or anticipation? Not based on 2014.
Stafford and Cutler. Maybe Cam and Rodgers, but I’d say they’re both a step below. Great arms but not quite as good.
I disagree on Nick. Most disturbing thing about Nick for me this year was the failure of mechanics and habit of fading back ala Kevin Kolb under ghost pressure. If he gets back to stepping up and climbing the pocket, he can get back to putting up quality numbers.
They do have some similarities. Both are big QB’s who are more athletic than people think, heck Flacco was keeping the ball on zone reads back at Deleware, and he is a legit 6’6 in height…..Flacco’s Arm is one of the 3 strongest arms in the NFL. FOles has a bigger arm then Philadelphia realizes, for example all the Eagles players view Nick as a big arm talent, where as our stupid media was questioning his arm strength like a season ago… FOles has a big arm, but not on Flacco’s Elite Arm strength level…
…
Think stylistically FOles is a little more of a Big Ben type, than Flacco.. Big guys, stay in the pocket, take hits while delivering the ball. They look slow, but both are mobile enough to get out of the pocket, eyes down field, throw well on the run… Although FOles is much better rolling out to the rights than to the left.
The Foles has a weak arm thing us classic philly misanalysis. Nick struggles at time with his deep ball, but he did it in a limited fashion at college and has shown improvement. That does not mean he has a weak arm, he can gun the ball into tight windows when it is needed.
When I compare Foles to Flacco it is more about what he can achieve in the league rather than a pure passer comparison, although they probably thrive in similar offences. Think the Ravens are the template of how you can win with Foles as your QB.
I think the problem with Foles arm has more to do with his accuracy on his deep balls. Flacco not only has a cannon for an arm but is very accurate on his deep passes. If Foles can tweak his mechanics a bit like Brady did early during his career, there is no doubt that Foles can be a top-5/10 QB in the league.
Not sure Fitterer would match with Kelly…who has shown some distinct tendencies and preferences for people who can run the system, at the expense of talent. Seattle’s defense is made up of a lot of specialists when Kelly prefers generalists. So Fitterer would be coming into a distinctly different culture, no matter the surface similarities wrt to team org structure in Seattle. Schneider has considerably more input than I think Kelly would really like, as well.
Carroll has specialists in his front 7 but not the secondary. He shares Chip’s “big people beat up little people” philosophy for the back four. The difference is that Carroll’s big people actually have talent.
Seven is more than four, and honestly, ETIII is the only generalist who is a star.
OT & I know I posted something like this last week, but I need to get this off my chest. I was on a road trip yesterday & ended up being subjected by the driver to about 3 hours of a certain Philly sports talk show (which shall remain nameless so as not to promote it).
I have never heard such a staggeringly unbelievable amount of know-nothing dopes at one time for as long as I can remember. They spent the entire time talking about a ridiculous trade scenario for Mariota: 3 1st round picks & Fletcher Cox. As if it weren’t ludicrous enough that they would believe that was enough to move up 19 spots to #1, when someone who actually had a brain suggested that we couldn’t afford to give up Cox he was mocked by the host, who said that you can find a guy like him almost anywhere. The only caller who had any sense about them whatsoever was a Cowboys fan of all people.
I used to think there were a lot of smart Eagle fans, but when you hear stuff like this it really makes you wonder. At the very least it’s pretty damn obvious they almost never call into these shows. Just mind blowing.
Lol I say this all the time..
..
Honestly, I’m trying my hardest to keep my blinders on this offseason. Im trying to not hear the opinipn of the Eagles from any of our media. The only Eagles talk im trying to engage in, is on this site. I won’t even reid Kapadia work, who I find to be pretty responsible. figure if I make sure to see all the interviews in their entirety. I don’t have to read any of our media trash because I already heard the quotes they use.
..
I say it all the time what a stupid fanbase we are, the worst kind of stupid, the kind of stupid that thinks it’s cut ally smart and knowledgable LoL… So knowledgable that these idiots wanted to replace bennie Logan after an extremely promising year for a rookie NT
..
You might as well take a break for our media, from now TIL the draft, all you will hear about is how the Eagles don’t have a QB and how we have to trade half our team to start developing a rookie QB all over again… Lol but we are such a know.edgable fan base.. Lol can’t fool us! Lol donkeys…
..
This site kind of Sheilds us from the stupidity of Eagles nation. The quality of debates and acumen we find here, you really can’t find elsewhere in Eagles nation. The down side is this site does t really reflect the true pulse of out fanbase, because our fan base is much dumber than the convos we have here
Amen x1000.
And I was pretty angry at my buddy by the end of the trip for having to listen to that garbage the whole way.
Lol, if you are stuck listening to sports radio, you better off taking the opportunity to call in, and ask a former Eagle like IKe Reese, Hollis Thomas, Westbrook, or whatever former Eagle is hosting, and intelligent question ATleast trying to steer the convo in an intelligent direction.
..
It’s so frustrating to love this team and be a die hard fan, knowing that 90% of all the Eagles coverage we get from our media is complete trash that will do more harm then good, listening to it. All it can do is taint your oppinion with crap that ISNT true.
..
so frustrating.
..
Wish someone would start a site that keeps track of all the crap our local media members say, and then go back and grade their opinion and see what percentage of the time the eagles coverage they provided to fans turned out to be accurate, and then grade all our media members on the rate in which they provided Intel that proved accurate… So fans can go and see for example, someone like Lea Bowan ismt even worth acknowledging cuz he is probably accurate like 18% of the time, or something patjetic like that
Dick LeBeau left Pittsburgh… said hes not retiring wow
Would take him as a consultant.
would be nice to have, interesting to see what he wants to do
If he had any say in the extension they gave to Cortez allen at the beggining of the year, he is going senile. Too loyal to his ancient Dbs
Consultant for the 3-4 Defense of course. Don’t think Howie the cap guy needs advice. 😉
I think what he looks for in 3-4 players differs then what we look for. The scheme that he runs, and has ran for years also differs.
He seems the type that just concerns himself with the x’s and o’s and coaching the players, and is perfectly content with wanting nothing more then that. Cortez Allen had a good year before the contract. He probably stated that yes he would be on board for extension or retaining him. Highly doubt he had anything to do with the numbers.
Yeah, that would be perfect. I believe he and Davis have coaching history together. At 77, being a part-time consultant is probably better for him than having a full-time gig.
Billy comes from the league coaching tree… Forget the 7 degrees of separation route to get from LBeu to billy,..but Billy brought in legendary Steeler OLB Kevin Green during this training camp, and last year he was showing our front 7 videos of Labeu’s BLITZburg defense..
..
I assume Kevin Green was proud of the pass rushing year, the guys he worked with had, COle, Barwin, BG
Davis was the defensive quality control assistant with Pittsburgh from 1992-94. At that time, LeBeau was the Steelers’ defensive backs coach and Dom Capers was their DC. Capers got hired by Carolina as their HC in 1995 and he hired Davis as his OLB coach. LeBeau was promoted to the Steelers’ DC.
Would be interesting to add an NFL defensive guru like LeBeau to the mix.
I’d take that in a heartbeat.
Thats because he is coming to Eagles!!!!
Would love to get him on the coaching staff in some capacity. Probably won’t coach in the NFL much longer, so I wouldn’t try to make him defensive coordinator, but something like a defensive consultant or assistant (to the?) head coach.
If Todd Bowles gets a HC gig somewhere, LeBeau is heading down to Arizona for sure.
Noe Flacco is the best quarter back on the planet ‘play offs’!
Heard a good theory from someone who has been calling his games since Deleware. knock on him is his study habits, feels his arm can bail him out a lot… The thinking is come playoff time. he doesn’t short change his study habbits, he puts in the extra work. And it results in much better playoff QB! Then regular season QB- John Ritchie
Pretty immature and unprofesional of him considering you need to win in the regular season in order to make the postseason if it is true.
I assume that woulda b really frustrating for Harbaugn if true… jon Ritchie claims that you can see during the regular season that he isn’t as prepared, makes mistakes, but come the playoffs, he knows exactly where to go with the ball in every situation. For example if the blitz is coming from the right, he knows exactky where each of his hot reads are, and Ritchie said that you don’t see him so sharp in his assignments during the regular season
…
He also ripped Daltons preperation pretty bad, someone like Dalton with arm strength limitatiòns shoûlder studying extra to overcome his limitations, instead he just sucks…
..
Called Cutler the modern Jeff George which I got a laugh out of… big Armed idiot
Interesting that Jon Ritchie, used to do the commentating on New Hampshire games when Chip coached there, so he claims he has admired chip for a while… He was also commentating for CS8 back when Flacco was playing at Deleware so he seemed pretty knowledgable about Flacco and his reputation
Tom Brady just Fo(o)les’d dem!
They’ve got similar speed (none).
Yes that’s why the Ravens were surprised!
The tackle the left guard made helped too
Nothing beats Foles TD run against the Bucs, it literal felt like the world stood still while he was running
The one QB Foles could beat in a footrace
Since the Smith pick ive thought the Eagles were trying to emulate Seatles D. Outside of the obvious that both are 3-4. Seattle has tall athletic LB. Smith is tall and athletic with Kendricks also being fast and athletic. Barwin while not being overly athletic is athletic enough to perform whatever you ask of him. Seattle doesnt have a LB that just purely rushes the passer. Hence the Smith pick with him alongside Barwin. Thats if he pans out. Both teams preffer larger more physical corners. Curry is their Bruce Irvin. Jenkins plays deep, man, or box such as Earl Thomas. The one difference is they preffer a big hitting in the box safety like Chancelor to where i think we wantbboth safeties to be able to do a bit of everything. This might have to do with the fact that their CB play is so great then add Thomas who can cover space like no other they can get away with a slower more physical in the box safety. And the fact that Chancelor is just best in the league when it comes to that.
Seattle doesn’t play a 3-4…
..
Seattle has a strong, and free safety, Not the interchangable safeties we are searching for
..
Seattle plays a different coverage scheme than us
We play cover 3, they player cover 1, only difference is how much man you play on the outside.
Again, we play a diffrent scheme. Cover 3 and cover 1 ARENT the same things
Agreed, but there are a lot of similarities in how Chip’s building his defense in that we both want big athletic linebackers and taller than average corners who can rough up receivers.
We like mirrored safeties who can play man or drop in zone where being a thumper is well down the list. Seattle runs a traditional free and strong safety where the SS is like a fourth linebacker. It’s a testament to how gifted Seattle’s corners and Earl Thomas are that their scheme works as well as it does.
wee2424, Barwin’s actually a really good athlete. He doesn’t have the great first step you see in elite pass rushers, but check his combine performance out. It’s especially impressive for a 250lb player.
No, but the safeties have often the same responsibilities. We play single high, they play single high, we put a safety down in the box, they put a safety down in the box.
If you read what i said regarding the safeties i devoted multiple sentences to acknowledging that. I never said we played same coverage, i said we like same type of bigger physical corners. Did you read what i said at all?
As much as I like Maclin, but Forsett deserves to win comeback player of the year.
So should a player really win comeback player based on just been back? Also what is he coming back from, he was never good before now
Yeah, breakout player of the year would be better for Forsett…since it’s his first year really producing like this
But there isn’t such category, is it?! That’s why I think Justin will get the most votes.
Although he doesnt exactly fit what the award states, you are probably correct in that he will win it.
He shouldn’t though who improved the most from last year to this year, Maclin had a 1300 yard improvement
I agree with you. However Forrsets name was constantly mentioned in the media where as Maclins wasnt. The whole Ray Rice thing also got him more attention. Like the Probowl its not always who deserves it but who is mentioned in the media more. Most WR talk this year was focused on the oustanding rookie class, which kind of overhadowed most WR in league when it came to media.
NE down 0-14 so I turned it on. Now tied. All my fault. I’ve turned it back off.
Good boy.
It worked!
So it isn’t just me lol
Tom Brady is the best quarter back on this planet.
Brady only good because Belichick — after hand-signals were eliminated — figured out how to wire-tap the opponent’s defensive radio signals.
Absolutely…no one cries to refs quite like him…they even created a rule for him, where if a defender breathes too hard on his lower body a penalty will be enforced…but only for him and Peyton Manning.
Is he even the best QB in this game?
No. Edelman is.
Now all we need is dick lebeau
I’m anxious to see Denver and the GB game.
..
Rumors swirling the last few weeks of the season about Peyton’s arm being shot. his preperation, the fact he wants to take every rep, seems to have worn down his arm late in the season… Think it was the Browns game, you could tell he lost all trust in his arm because he was checking into run plays the entire game…also heard the bye week helped his arm, but I would expect to hear that whether it’s true or not going into the playoffs,
..
As for the Dallas game, all year I been bashing the over rated Dallas OL. Nothing over rated about their run blocking, but I been ripping their pass protection all year, tape of the Lions game backed my analysis up. cowboys oL/RB were pathetic last week in Blitz pick up…basic stuff, like you would see the Lions LB’s sugaring the A-Gaps pre snap, when the ball is snapped the OLB would all pinch down, trying to squeeze to stop the A gap Blitzes, but the LBs WOULDNT come, and the OTs were worried about pinching down to block the middle, and they were letting the DEs get a free rush to Romo. Basic blitz pickups were killing the Cowboys OL last week
..
The GB game isn’t complicated. GB defense struggles against the run, Cowboys OL strength is elite run blocking. if Dallas can run the BLl successfully they will make it a tough game.. but if GB steps up and shuts the run down and Rogers gives GB a lead forcing Dallas to start throwing it, I’m telling you right now Dom Capers is going to give hell to the Cowboys OL in pass protection. After I saw how poorly they handled the lions blitz packages and fake blitzes, Dom Capers will be lick his lips in pass situations, moving Clay and Peppers all over the place, lining them up as OLBs and rushiñg, linnning them Up at ILB and blitzing up the middle..
..
Dallas has to be able to run successfully, limit how much they get to bLitz dallas. if Romo has to throw 30 times, they won’t win… If they are allowed to commit to the run, and stick to it all game, they become Dangerous.
I just dont see Cowboys being able to keep up with GB in GB, regardless if they run effectively or not. I dont see Romo bringing his A game in that cold. May be close at first due to Dallas being able to run and winning TOP, but i think Packers run with it later in game.
Hopefully Rogers is Rogers and that calf doesn’t effect him more than we are being led to believe.
…
If GB can get a lead early, it be really hard for Dallas to comeback on them
I just don’t think their defense will have a chance to stop them
Both defenses could struggle to stop the Offenses….
..
Everyone talks about cowboy run game against the Packers, but I happen to like the GB OL more than I like Dallas OL, and the Cowboys D should struggle with Eddie Lacy every bit as much as GBARENTEE struggles against murray
We could see an arena league style game. If that happens, I prefer the home team and Rodgers.

Tommy . . . .
You make it sound so easy.
Lol Eagles seem to be following the seattle blue print, drafting all our corners in round 4 and our safeties in round 5…. Unfortunately wolff ISNT on pace to become Chancellors and Sherm has about 7 inches on boykin…
AGREE!!!
Seattle’s sure proved — if you know what you’re doing — there’s plenty of value in lower round DBs.
Only problem is finding that super-hero to play safety.
GEagle:
By the way . . . that fits your “don’t expect CBs in Rd 1 do Jack-o-doodle”
Yeah, really really dislike drafting corners early, so hit or miss, they suck as rookies, and teams can easily avoid 1 corner…
Who’s the last rookie 1st-Rd CB to be an impact player in Year 1?
And who before that?
My answer:
I’d say Joe Haden in ’10.
Before him DRC in ’08 (along with Talib).
Even Pat Peterson.
Huge step back this year though
Thought about PP.
What the heck happened? He looked lost out there
Sounds like he got paid, and kicked his feet up
lots of pro bolwers on that defense were hurt, it takes a village to raise a child
That’s probably good guess…. Desmond Trufant is the last corner I saw in a draft that I would have spent a first round pick on. He played as a rookie, but he didn’t really come into his own Til this year… Could very well be jOe Haden… I knew Milner would suck, them bama DBs can’t play in the NFL.. Claiborne went high and he sucks… Very well might be Joe Hadan
GEagle:
Why are folks in these parts talking up Kareem Jackson?
Another AL guy.
If memory serves, you slammed the AL CBs at least in 2013 — maybe sooner.
About all you can say is Saban likes long CBs . . . like Kelly.
Well Jackson is a solid player
A couple years back, KJ wasn’t playing well. Up and down.
At least that’s my recollection.
Maybe his game’s matured? CB being as difficult as it is.
He is definitely better,
Cuz they see his INT stats… 5’10 CB THATS going to get seriously PAID… Really doubt we pay that money to a corner under 6Ft
..
Coming off a good year… I doubt we have interest
You can’t just say we won’t pay corners under 6 outside of Sherman every Pro Bowl corner is under 6 feet
You do know Kareem is going to get paid more than Byron Maxwell right?
..
Chip won’t draft Ikpe OLOMU, a top corner he recruited because of size, we won’t even consider Boykin or Jaylen on the Outside…. How can I possibly expect them to give a 5’10 CB $40mil? What precedent or clue since chip arrived could possibly lead me to believe THATS likely to happen?
I don’t Kareem is getting that kind of money and could get less then Maxwell plus 40mil over 5 years wouldn’t even be a problem for me personally
I don’t view things as what would be a problem for me and you,, I worry about how our regime views things, and there is nothing these past two years that can lead me to confidently expect the Eagles giving a 5’10 corner 40mil…. Considering the slop THATS available, I wouldn’t complain….but I would be lying if I said its something I can personally expect to happen.
..
Again, I’d love to be wrong and see us spend 40plus on a corner, I just need to see it to believe it
I understand that but 5’10 isn’t THAT short and he’s a player you see Skrine and Flowers are ballers but we won’t touchthem because they are really short honestly Perrish Cox fits but then there is that character bs, I mean if they want a talented 6 for corner with no of field issues there is only one option…
Cox and Culliver, the young San Fran corners Wont even be considered. Friggin career criminals lol and Culliver is actually philly born..
..
I know yous ain’t trying to hear it, it makes me mad to think bout it. But you better off talking corners with someone else since I’m convinced the doom of starting Cary and Nolan in September awaits us..l I really believe that lol, obviously I pray every night that im wrong lol
The under 6ft thing chaps my ass. I get the theory, but ignoring talent for 2inches is silly.
I like it! WR are getting bigger and bigger each year. it’s friggin impossible as it is to play corner in this new bullshit version of NFL football that the refs call today… Asking your Corner to overcome a 5-6inch advantage for an entire game on each and every snap against a talented Wr is just way too much to ask, with how fucking impossible the bulshit rules are making it to play corner.
..
Basically, if you have a great reputation at corner, you can be successful, refs let you play a little more. IF YOU ARE bradley Fletcher, you will get flagged for breathing on a WR
Site wasn’t big corners but you can’t ignore small ones when most of the elite corners are under 6 feet
No? Seems to me, that’s EXACTLY what we have been doing
As I said, I understand the theory. I certainly agree with looking for taller corners as I’m drafting or signing guys. I don’t agree with playing someone who’s two inches taller but clearly the lesser talent. Fletcher got away with plenty in some games, but was correctly flagged a lot, especially later in the season.
My guess, is maybe we add another flawed B level corner like Ladarius Webb if he gets cut, and look to groom corners that we draft… But I hate to admit, it wouldn’t surprise me the least bit to see the Eagles go into next season planning to start, Cary and Nolan outside, with Jaylen Watkins replacing Nolan in Dime.. While we groom corners we drafted on the bench
…
Again, I would LOVE to be wrong, and see the Eagles add an established stud at Corner… I just won’t hld my breathe
I believe in Jaylen Ramsey. FSU!!!! Unfortunately he is too young for this draft. Wish we could draft him this year, And own his rights whenever he enters the draft lo,
someone wrote on Thursday that they see Shaq Thompson as a safety.
any thoughts on that?
Maybe in someone else defense, that wouldnt happen in our defense.
..
My OPPINION of drafting Shaq for the Eagles is pretty simple… Picture Lavonte David, and Mykal Kendricks flying around making plays behind Cox, Logan and Ced….. That’s what drafting Shaq for us would be like,
..
I’m sure we would value his ability to blitz and drop into coverage so much at LB, because it frees up kendricks, teams can’t know which LB is blitzing, which is dropping into coverage, because SHAQ is as well rounded LB potential like KEndricks and Lavonte David who I personally feel he best compares to.
..
Funny Howie, if I’m not mistaken planned on drafting Lavonte and Mykal in round two, but the Bucs traded ahead of us and stole Lavonte, so we took Curry
Unfortunately, right now, I would guess that SHAQ is the first LB drafted and doesn’t make it to 20… Giants could really use him, fortunately they also need OL
..
Word is the Redskins are going to sign a bunch of the veterans the Niners cut, like Frank Gore, and letting Orakpo walk, replacing him with Ahmad Brooks to pair with Kerrigan
Re: SF-east
Washington needs a culture transfer.
Guys like Brooks and Gore would be a start.
Don’t get it why? They have Morris
Gore’d strictly be No. 2 in the rotation and for the locker room.
Don’t know if he do it.
But Washington needs leadership
They don’t have much cap anyway let them go after 49ers in decline
Hopefully they bring RG3 back. As long as they waste their time with a QB with fatal character flaws at that position, I won’t worry about the skins…
..
What’s interesting is the skins could easily end up with Mariotta or Winston. All the teams in between Bucs and Skins have young QBs. Titans have Mettenberger, Raiders have Carr, Jags have BOrtles..
..
I assume Lovie will think he can handle Jameis Winston, who IMO is a much better pro style prospect than Marriotta, so our media is so dumb, that they can’t even have a correct Marriotta debate lol.. We wouldn’t have to trade up to #1, we would have to get ahead of the skins at 4, but I would assume a team like the Jets tried to get ahead of the skins for a QB
..
it must really suck to be an Eagles fan that doesntbelieve in FOles lol. Must really suck to be an eagle fan and think we still need a QB. I will enjoy the draft process so much more, since Im convinced we already have our QB for the next 7 years on our roster. I can’t imagine how much it would suck to be an eagle fan that thinks we need a QB, in a draft where we are picking at #20, and Winston and Marriotta will go top 5 lol…. Thank you Saint Nick!
LD and MK in 2012?
I’d not heard that.
That’d have been impressive
That’s what I heard and have believed since that draft. I thought it was common knowledge, curious if anyone else heard that?… BUcs sure as hell made sure to trade up directly in front of us to draft Lavonte.
..
Think about it, we played a 4-3 at the time, had just traded for Meco to man the middle, we needed two young 4-3 WLB, and SLB to play outside Meco, Lavonte, KEndricks and Meco would have been great 4-3 LBARNETT corp
Browner just did his impression of Bradley Fletcher. Nice job.
Harbaugh owns BB!
For some reason they own NE.
BB is NE.
I know, I’m agreeing with you.
Joe Flacco going crazy.
Need moved to happen soon, trying to project free agency and I see some solid Graham replacements. Various price points with Worilds, Sheard, Hughes and Orakpo but besides maybe Hughes none of these guys will end up being much more expensive than Graham, potentially cheaper even. Sorry for bringing this up just my mind
Jerry Hughes at OLB?
Yep yep yep
Why do you think he will be cheaper than BG? For that money, I’d rather sigń a natural OLB, then to have to convert another DE.
..
Rather trade for Dion, he is on a cheap rookie deal for two more years
…
Restructure COle for one more year, by 2016 we won’t need COle and Marcus and Dion can fight over his reps
I’m fine with trading for Dion if you are going Cole,Barwin,Smith,Dion but if you let Cole go I don’t want to their in Dion honestly. Hughes has played in the 3-4 in the past and is solid in coverage so I don’t think it would be as dramatic a transition. I saw somewhere (don’t remember where maybe buffalo rumblings) saying Hughes wanted 7-8mil per year with around 15 guaranteed that’s Graham range if true
I just doubt that is his real price seems a bit low
Doubt we will lose both BG and COle in the same offseason. That’s what teams strapped for cap have to do. We are smarter than that. Cheaper to restructure COle for a year, while we raise Dion and Marcus, instead of committing 20mil guaranteed and 45mil for an OLB on the market after just drafting Marcus in round 1…. Remember it’s important to look at team buildings not terms of how much they are spending on a certain position. barwin PAID, marcus 1st round money… Doubt it makes Financial sense to bring in a OLB you have to pay more than BARWIN..
…
Restructuring COle for a year saves us a 45mil commitment(20 guaranteed, since an OLBs agent won’t even take your call if you aren’t ok with 20 mil guaranteed for startersu
We keep looking back on Griffin contract for reference but in fairness he was comingoff double digit sacks and was a Pro Bowler this season and looking at guys like Avril, and Wright this year means we can’t assume every good pass rusher is getting 8per with 20 guaranteed plus Houston and JPP and Hardy will be the top pass rushers available,
Every single pass rusher worth a damon, is getting 20mil GUARENTEED.. Most expensive position just about
O:
Can any of those guys cover in space?
Read an interview of Worilds, who said he played in coverage about 50% this season. (I guess with the injuries and Harrison coming back, PITT had no other option?)
Don’t know much about Sheard.
But Hughes is like TCole just younger. And BGraham with more PT and better numbers (opposite Mario).
Hughes is much better in coverage than Graham, as is Orakpo and Worilds even. Not sure about Sheard in coverage though
Would like to see Hughes come this way.
At the right price, Ugarte. At the right price.
But he’s looking for a big-time payday.
Harbs should be Eagles’ HC.
He was the natural replacement for Reid, but the timing wasn’t right.
Yeah, I know. What could have been…
So tempted to turn game back on but I won’t do it.
Just wait a minute. Pats in the redzone LOL
Nevermind…Gronk TD
Gronk is the best tight end on this earth.
lebeau “resigns” in pittsburgh
Anyone streaming this game? what are you using?
Wiziwig should steer you right
yeah they shut that down apparently, my go to – first row sports is too crazy with the pop ups.
Atmospheric conditions suck?
use cricfree.tv on firefox with addblock installed
Wow
PAGING T-LAW . . .
I’m anticipating that you’ll do a post on LeBeau’s availability.
You commented in the thread:
“Would be interesting to add an NFL defensive guru like LeBeau to the mix.”
_____________
If you do post . . . would you mind fleshing out what you’re thinking regarding how LeBeau would fit.
That is, DL would presumably be a consultant. But do you think that’d work?
Also, does DL have any philosophies that may not be what Kelly likes?
____________
Anyone? Thoughts?
Davis’s primary background is as a LBers coach. LeBeau’s background before becoming DC is as a DBs coach. Of course, he was a Hall of Fame defensive back. They could mesh well.
That’s very interesting.
Very.
In an article I read when I was looking the story up, it said LeBeau might want to go to AZ with Arians. But that’s all speculation.
I think he’d be a good fit here and he seems like a Kelly-type guy. 2-gap 3-4 guy.
AG:
Got it.
DL’s a perfectly timed replacement for Bowles — who 100% should be a HC next season.
Also, wanted to remark that Castillo has done an excellent job with the Ravens’ offensive line this season. Last year, they had too many cooks in the kitchen with Castillo as the run-game coordinator while also having an OL coach and assistant OL coach. Plus, Ray Rice sucks when he’s not beating up his wife.
His ability as an OL coach has never been in question to my knowledge,.. DC….not so much!
Beginning of the end for Reid. I don’t know what the hell he was thinking.
Not usually known for the understatement.
Well done!
Wait you’re saying Castillo has been a DC before?! Whose Stupid idea was that?!
I hate replay.
Too many replays.
Too many penalties.
Too many commercials.
______________
If the NFL could manage, HQ would make these games 5 hours long.
Thing is, college is even worse.
I think you’re right.
That actually give Goodell et al. something to shoot for.
Maybe we can trade for Edelman to play QB?! *
Edelman’s the best QB on the field for the Patriots!!!
I. Want. Devin. McCourty.
Bet you anything outside of NE he isn’t nearly as good.
Maybe even a lesser safety than Chung?
Lets not get crazy here AC.
Lol.
Just havin’ some fun.
It’s Saturday evening. And the wine’s very good.
I’m not so sure.
Likely to be franchised.
have they the money?
I haven’t looked into their cap situation closely, but their media has commented that he’s likely to be tagged.
No… They will lose, either Browner, REVIS, or McCourty, can’t keep all 3 if I’m not mistaken
Browner might go, lots of penalties. Who would they replace McCourty with to play opposite chung?
Franchise for safety is like 8mil I’d do.it
They are losing 1 of the 3: Browner, McCourty, or REVIS. can’t pay all 3… They just paid chung, my bet is they keep the corners and look for a new safety…
..
McCourty is probably the only Free agent I would recommend we pay… Don’t want any other Free agents
Instincts and he can catch the ball….. yeah hes probably worth a shot
Wow Ravens are falling apart here. They let the Patriots get way too much easy short stuff… seems like they were willing to trade the potential of failure for the certainty of failure.
Just forced a 3 and out.
Yeah, see-saw as hell game.
Awful punt by Allen.
WOW
Huge penalty call. Game saver for Baltimore.
Hate when a game turns on some little ticky-tack bullshit.
Cmon man that was a pretty clear hold, and if he doesn’t do it Flacco has all day in the pocket to hit steve smith.
I’d agree that that was a penalty. Here is what I really, really hate. The offense is bumbling. They get backed up by their own penalties, getting sacked. They have a 3rd and 10+ and then get an automatic first down because of some vague judgement call. There is no reason that defensive holding should come with an automatic first down.
The reason it does is because if it didn’t DB’s would do it all the time to prevent much bigger gains.
They already do, especially in Seattle.
Well… theoretically if they called Seattle the way they called everyone else it wouldn’t work :p.
Seattle dares the refs to throw a flag every play. They count on the fact that they won’t. As irritating as I find it, I could live with it if they then called the other team the same way.
Yep, but they don’t. NFL officiating drives me nuts. They have no know going in that Seattle is going to do that, but they let them get away with it week after week.
Right call, but yeah, I agree.
Flacco got away with a HUGE one there lol.
Man, if Revis got flagged for all the stuff he should get flagged for every week he wouldn’t be nearly the corner he is.
He would be Cary Williams lol…
Did I just read that Revis has been flagged for PI in 111 games?!?!?!
That doesn’t sound right cuz he only has 111 starts
Huh?!
This is the first I’ve really watched Revis play all year long… seeing him grab and tug and armbar on every single play, if Bradley Fletcher did that shit he would have had 87 penalties this year.
The sad thing he had 87 penalties.
Hah, nice.
The Bills are giving Rex Ryan a second interview. That pairing doesn’t really make any sense to me. They already have a strong DC in Schwartz who runs a 4-3. Both Schwartz and Ryan are abrasive personalties that aren’t likely to mesh. The word is that Ryan would be paired with Marc Trestman as OC but getting an offensive guy as HC and letting Schwartz continue to run the D like he did last year seems like the smart move IMO.
It’s the Bills. So it does kind of make sense in that way :p.
The Bills might still don’t know what to do after Marrone threw them a huge curveball.
Watching this game…..Patrick Chung still blows.
huh?
Hasn’t played as bad as game went along but particularly on the Ravens’ first two TD drives they were constantly targeting him.
Patriots definitely do a better job of not asking him to do stuff he just can’t, but I can see the same limitations that hurt him so badly in Philly.
You basically have to treat him like Mark Barron and just let him blitz on every play
Some teams just seem to always play better in the playoffs. Spurs in the NBA, Ravens in the NFL. Need to give the Raven’s credit even if New England wins this game. Seven point dog, and they’ve already hung 28 on a very good Pat’s defense.
Crazy game, just a tug of war. Feels like the team that’s throwing the haymakers at the end is gonna be the one that wins.
how do you think we’d fare in this game? my gut feeling is not well.
We’d be crushed by New England they always have our number… the Ravens I feel we’d be much better against.
We’d be outclassed. I love the Eagles, but the way we played down the line and given our propensity for turnovers, we’d have been buried.
Spurs routinely win the west playing their scrubs – but i see your point. Ravens are built for playoff football though. Defense and running the ball.
and Flacco.
yeah that def helps.
Wonder when the Ravens are gonna start defending the short stuff. Pats have just been murdering them on these short sideline throws.
He’s down. Now, we find out if Kraft paid the officials enough. Jerry clearly did.
I love how the NFL basically kicked the Lions in their already sore balls by admitting they messed up on the reversed PI call AND a missed holding later in the game.
and then the league fined Dez for being on the field with no helment after non-calling it during the game.
Yeah. The Lions aren’t allowed to have nice things.
Actually, it wasn’t for that play. Fined him for taunting on a penalty that was declined on a technicality.
If I were the Lions owner I’d just take the hit and write a check to charity and send Goodell a simple two word response.
He should do it in a national paper. Make sure we all see it.
I’m surprised that doesn’t happen more often. If I was the Lions coach after that I would have been tossed from the game, you would have heard so many bullshits and you’re a fucking idiot coming from my mouth, and then I’d keep talking in the presser after. The whole world would know what I thought of that officiating crew haha.
NE gonna keep it… They need to start holding onto the ball though, already recovered 2 of their own fumbles.
I’ve been digging around looking for more articles about LeBeau. I would love for the Eagles to talk to him, but the prevailing opinion seems to be that he’s heading to AZ to reunite with Arians.
http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/nfl-pittsburgh-steelers-news/2015/1/10/7526099/dick-lebeau-arizona-cardinals-2015-steelers
He’s 77.
It’s a possibility but at 77 he and his wife may not want to move that far away, potentially from their immediate family. He’s spent most of his career in the Cincinatti/Pittsburgh area.
Arizona is full of old people
Hahahah. Comment of the day.
A note on LeBeau: His first pro coaching job was with the Eagles from 1973-75 as the Eagls’ STs coach.
I read that earlier on Wikipedia. How cool to start and end your coaching career in the same place?
haha
I love that sneak play the Pats always run. Like taking candy from a baby.
Oof, brutal missed tackle.
Pats just keep murdering them with that short shit to the outside. Ravens gotta jump that and take it to the house at some point.
The Ravens’ CBs are their weakness. I’m sure they’re coached to give a cushion to prevent the big play.
This is like stealing. Frustrating part is if the Ravens try to step up and take it away, Brady will immediately go over the top.
lol, damn. I called that.
Brady is a beast — you can see he changed the whole play at the line, perfect pass.
If 38 gets his head around that’s an interception.
Edit: I should add unless he has hands like Malcom Jenkins. Then it’s just the ball clanking off his hands in a mad show of futility.
Don’t press at the line, disguise like you’re playing off and jump the pass. You know its coming.
Gotta have faith in your corners to pull it off. Not sure Baltimore’s corners are much better than ours.
Why trade possibility of failure for certainty of failure? Letting Brady throw 5 yard stops against 15 yard off coverage is certainty of failure.
No argument from me. And there’s a back breaking penalty. Yep, Kraft made his donation to the fraternal order of referees.
WOW
Hey look, is that Bradley Fletcher not getting his head around?
I’ve never heard of this Melvin guy, #38, but he’s been getting beaten like a rented mule all game long haha.
That’s one of the only reason why you’ve never heard of him.
If the Ravens march down the field and score here… What a game.
Drive stalled.
Hell of a game, even if the Raven’s don’t come back.
Forsett would be awesome in the Eagles offense. Love the way he just hits the hole.
Release shady, sign Forsett!! *dodges tomatoes*
Not here, but I’ve suggested signing Justin Forsett as depth in several offseasons.
Huge 4th down play coming. Flacco got lucky that wasn’t called a fumble.
I sense the Pats stopping this.
They wanna ice the QB!
This is where NE would run a QB sneak lol.
Holy shit haha, what a game!
Flacclutcho!
Sounds like some strange new VD.
Didn’t you mean STD?!
I’m convinced Flacco is clutch only because his brain doesn’t have the capacity to process the gravity of the moment.
too bad you can’t say the same about sanchize.
Sanchize’s brain reacts to mundane situations like its 4th and goal in the super bowl.
He has some games in the regular season where he just looks horrible, but he brings it in the playoffs.
There is no substitute for clutch players.
Oof, 5 free yards and stops the clock. Bad penalty.
My gut just said: 38-35 Ravens
My hatred of the Patriots says that would be awesome.
Level of hatred – Cowboys > Patriots > Redskins > Giants > Ravens
Sounds about right. I’d reverse Skins and Giants.
I have trouble hating the Giants. They’re a well-run organization with a respectable HC without the clueless jack-ass owners that the Foreskins and Cowgirls have.
A lot of my family grew up in New York, so I have a lot of Giants fans in the family. They tend to be asses, which feeds my hatred of the Giants. Skins are too pathetic to generate near as much hatred, and they tend to upset Dallas.
Cowboys > Skins > Giants > Bucs > Pats
No INT flacco tosses a pick to end the game.
Smart. Arse.
If this was the Eagles instead of New England out there you may as well turn off the TV because you know we’d let them score.
Wow! Who? Lol
New Eagles starting safety ends the game!!
Flacco sucks.
Wooow, Flacco got greedy, way too much time on the clock to do that.
Just when everyone is sucking up to Flacco…..
Wow it’s great when a safety understands the game and knows where the ball is going.
You know what happened there though right? New England shaded their single high safety over to the side that needed help… Billy Davis are you taking notes?
I know seriously.
Welp, time to watch Seattle spank the life out of Carolina. Should be a much more lopsided game.
Harbaugh coached this game really well
Flacco screwed them. Why go away from the 5-10 yard passes that was working? Could have worked their way down the field.
Lots of time left too.
Really weird because he was looking to that side the whole time, he had to see the safety running over the top there. Not like the guy flew in from out of nowhere.
they fooled him with the safety question. Bated him into that pass. That’s what i dind’t understand about the Eagles. Everyon’es going after Fletch, goad them into it
As SteveH said down below, he got greedy. Patriots, unlike the Eagles, didn’t put their corners on the island to try to generate pressure. As much as it hurts me to say this, congrats to the Patriots.
Yeah hats off. I think Belichik is one of the best (if not the best) coaches out there.
Devin McCourty jumps up and Bats down the Hail Mary pass to secure the win…. Is there any doubt that Nate Allen would have found a way to let the WRs behind him and catch the ball even on a hail mary where he starts off lined up at those own 5 yard line lol..
Nate would have taken out Jenkins and then it would have been Smith one on one with Fletch so yeah….TD
Your confusing Nate and Patrick. That was Chung’s specialty here.
Hopefully Devin’s starting in midnight green next season.
IMO, he would be the only free agent Id sigń this year… Cap is going up like 10mil, treat ourselves and blow it on Devin McCourty, the hood rich way!!!
McCourty’s good, and I’d love to see him on the Eagles. He’s still 2nd on my covet list. Houston’s just a beast and a perfect fit for the way we want to play defense. Might not have a great chance of signing him, but he’s the guy I’d back the brinks truck up for.
Dude, Houston is one of my favorite players in the NFL, I’d let you YAC me an extra 5% to help pay his salary… I just don’t expect us to pay for ANYONEs OLB at ALL!
..
Love to be wrong tho…
..
McCourty is the one Guy, I could see the Eagles pay for. Stylistically, he is a former corner, the perfect safety to play in our defenses schemes with Malcolm Jenkins.
.l
He is EVERYTHING this regime looks for in a safety and free agent(character, work ethic, football IQ)
..
Personally he is only expensive player I can see us signing this year, or ATleast tryimg to
I agree he’s the most likely target. I’d just prefer them to break the bank for Houston. I also agree that McCourty’s an exceptionally good fit for the way we play defense. Also, as we saw today, he can make plays on the ball in the deep zone which is something we didn’t see out of Jenkins at all.
All true… Hopefully they prioritize keeping the corners in place letting Devin hit the market, I assume we would put an end to the safety dilema of the past decade and go after him hard
Last huge Pass rusher contract for a guy on the open .market was Mario getting 6/96 and the cap was lower then, are you willing to give him that kind if deal if he gets lose
Yes.
Only 2 things 1. He might get even more and 2. KC can tag him for just 11.6mil
I know it’s a long shot. You asked if I’d be willing to pay him that. He’s worth it, especially when we don’t have a ton of money wrapped up in the QB position.
Yeah and honestly with the rising cap I’d pay him that as well, not gonna lie I hope Houston and Suh are both loose on the open market not because I think we will sign him but it will be funny seeing some of the huge record breaking numbers that are thrown at them. Watt at 6/100 is looking like a HUGE bargain lol
Curious how much you think McCourty would get Byrd got 6/56 and Thomas got 4/40
I don’t think he’s in the range of either of those guys.
Well what do think he will get them Goldson got 5/41, Weddle 5/40, Rolls 5/37 but these were all on a lower cap
Weddle money, BUT i will say it’s a bad year for safeties so he might get a little more
37mil
Over 4 years or 5
I dunno , give him 4yrs 40mil for all I care. Caps going up 10mil, it’s like continuining to operate under the same Cap and adding a free McCourty..
…
Most fans have their crazy wish lists wanting to sign 3 of the top free agents…I don’t ask for much, I ask for 1 signing, that’s all I want, pay to fix the problem that has plagued us the longest, SAFETY… Since I only ask for 1’signing, I don’t really care what they have to Pay, just get it done.. Eliminating safety as a need going into the, draft will be HUGE, not to menton our corners will finally get proper safety help
Have I been unreasonable with my hours lol I’d totally sign McCourty for like 4/37 I guess the other signings I’ve been advocating for is 2 of Sheard, Hughes, Worilds, Orakpo, Cox, Maxwell, Jackson, Parker,Gipson, Culliver, McCourty, Franklin, Hill, Moore, Cromartie which is too much to ask for lol
For two years I have been told we don’t mind spending money, but only if it’s the perfect fit…. Devin is that PERFECT FIT in every way possible, so spend the money and get it done..
,,
Btw, McCourty ISNT even one of my top 5 safeties in the NFL a. He may not even be top 10 for me… But I know he is EXACTLY what our coaches look for in a free agent safety, so pony up and get it done
Hmmm really? I mean I’d have to think about it but who’d you out ahead of Devin
Earl, Kam, BYRD (healthy), Ward, Bathea was one of my fav safeties this year,… Wow, didmt realize naming 10 great safeties would be so hard…I guess Weddle, but I can’t stand him..
..
I mean I’d put Devin with Ward and Bathea I’m real high on Devin
I feel like you’re getting your hopes up for DMc I hope you don’t get disappointed.
My hopes up? That’s what just happened..
..
Please, I expect the Eagles to piss you all Off and sigń no one, so my hopes can’t be dissapointed
I feel like you have permantly scarred by last offseason
Hope so… I would LOVE to be wrong and see the Eagles sigń McCourty, Houston and Maxwell..
I like Maxwell but hard to trust him out of Seattle, I don’t even think we will be going after big fishes neccassarily probably have a couple Barwin, Jenkins like signings unless McCourty is free
Allen would be tying his shoelaces,
Honestly I think the Ravens were the AFC’s best shot at keeping the Pats from the Superbowl
Considering the way they manhandled both the Colts and Broncos earlier this year, I have to agree.
Broncos are really good – beat the Pats last year. I think Broncos have a much better team, maybe not as good coaching.
Broncos aren’t nearly as good this year as last though. Well, maybe nearly as good, but definitely not as good.
Better on defense. Not nearly as good on offense.
better running game. buy yeah offense doesnt seem to be clicking as well — i think thats b/c the TE thomas has been hurt all year.
Why isn’t standard NFL operating procedure to handle your end of game timeouts the same way the Ravens did?
Don’t call one after 1st down, call one after 2nd and 3rd, forces team to run a play on 4th. Feels like I haven’t seen that done before, but should be applicable in so many situations.
he’s a smart coach. Also kept going for it on 4th down when most wouldn’t have.
Because despite being paid millions of dollars to coach football, the finer points of timeout management continue to elude most head coaches (looking at you Andy).
lol. Thank you for that.
You know I don’t care who wins Carolina versus Seattle… but it is fun to watch Russell Wilson struggle.
Want Carolina to win because I hate Seattle:s arrogant fan base and it would be funny seeing a 7 win team in the championship game
My thoughts exactly. Can a 6-10 team go to the Superbowl?
Funny isn’t the term I would use. Wouldn’t mind Seattle getting roughed up this game, but I’d rather see two teams that deserve it play for the championship. That’s not Carolina or Dallas for the record.
F that would love Carolina in why wouldn’t they deserve it if they win a 6th straight by knocking off the defending champs
Exactly. They won their division fair and square.
I also prefer teams that deserve it. To me that means teams that were good in the regular season and not just good in the playoffs. I’m glad NE beat Baltimore. Sick of these mediocre teams getting hot and making deep runs in the postseason.
Baltimore was a little better than mediocre, but I agree with the sentiment.
That interception was so far down the field they would have been better off just knocking the ball down and making them punt it lol.
Finally eclipsed 50 combined yards for these 2 only took 8 minutes
Rule change proposal: For punts, teams now have the option to put the quarterback in and declare a punt situation. In this situation, any pass is considered to be a punt instead of a throw.
Would love to see Newton or people just lining up in the shotgun on “punts” and heaving the ball 75 yards down the field.
Flacco would be a beast punter
I like it. Of course with Sanchez in at QB, we’d have 20yrd punts at best 😛
Every team would have a ‘punt’ QB on the roster. Just some scrub with a huge arm.
Sopoaga can extend his career 5 more years
Wow, what a dopey penalty.
Ticky tack bullshit penalty.
I’m really getting turned off by the refs This year, and not just because of Eagles games. It’s really souring me on the game
I’ve been souring on NFL officiating for years man. It’s astounding how poor it is sometimes.
I found myself this year watching games that had nothing to do with the Eagles, games where I didn’t care who won, yet the refs were so bad I would change the channel.. It’s becoming a disgrace.
..
We got dorks and geeks who think they can make this perfect game “better”.. They are not only changing rules to help injuries, but they are also changing rules to help offense, you can’t do BOTH, it’s changing to a completely ridiculous set of bullshit rules that don’t get called with any type of consistency.
..
It was a legit penalty, but I hate the fact that something so little is now an automatic flag. I only get sore with the refs when it’s blatantly one-sided. Can’t complain about the Pats Ravens game, but the Dallas Detroit game was one of the worst I’ve seen in years.
Wow, Tolbert just had his helmet ripped off and no flag haha.
Haha, that read option shit is not going to work against Seattle.
I’ll be really really surprised if Kelvin Benji can score against LOB
Color me surprised
Tough pass to defend against bigger wide-outs. Good throw too.
This drive is precisely why people who think Nick freaking Foles is a better QB than Cam Newton are out their minds.
Who said that?!
Shall remain unnamed. But they know who they are. Or read any thread about Nick.
I have only said that I wouldn’t trade our 1st plus Shady for Newton.
Fair. I would, for what its worth.
I’d think about it
SHAH!!! SHAH!!!???? JOE WEBB JUST MADE A TACKLE!!!
Lol rather have Brad smith as a QB
Dallas needs to get eliminated tomorrow. I feel like I can’t enjoy the playoffs as long as those scumbags are in it
true dat. And the really scary thing is they have a chance tomorrow.
Need GB to jump out to a lead and force dallas to throw a little, so Peppers and Clay can beat up Romo
God forbid if Dallas scores first.
Same, when they are done I will be at peace
Seattle better win today. Because I don’t want the Cowboys to get the Panthers at home should they win tomorrow. #nightmarescenario
Cowboys better not win tomorrow I’m pulling for CAR @ GB lol
Better stay safe and root for Seattle my friend. Anything is possible.
One more reason to cheer for Seattle. Not that I like them, but at this point it’s about cheering for who I dislike less.
Just missed getting his toe down. Sherman got beat. This makes me very happy 😀
I have to admit that I was so wrong re Benjamin. Didn’t wanna touch him in the draft but boy he looks legit.
Me too. Wasn’t impressed at all, but he’s got talent.
I’m still glad we passed. A ton of drops this season. Still has very poor hands.
I think they’ll get better — had a lot of pressure this year. Question is how mature is he.
Only caught like 50.2% of targets.
Fortunately I think we got someone just as good in the 2nd round, so good value there. Basically the only 1st rounder I absolutely without reservation would take over Pope Mathews is ODB, and that’s not even close. ODB might end up being the best WR in the league.
I’d take Mike Evans and Watkins over Matthews too.
Same would still think about Cooks honestly in this offense
sorry forgot cooks
Evans and Watkins I don’t think are going to end up being that much better than the Pope.
bc they don’t have anyone throwing to them?
Benjamin beating Sherman does kinda point out why I think the 6ft thing is kind of silly. Sherman’s both an extremely talented as well as tall corner and he still looks like a midget next to Benjamin. If you can’t keep up, doesn’t matter how tall you are.
That was also an unreal throw against one of the tallest WRs in the league though.
True. Sherman could’ve been 7ft tall and he wouldn’t have stood a chance.
At this point, are we all agreed that the Eagles should use a mid round pick on Brandon Bridge and let him sit behind Foles for a year?
I love watching great safety play. Makes up for so much, that’s probably a TD for Benji.
That should be ruled incomplete. Close, but no cigar.
Who are the commentators?! I really like them for a change.
Earl Thomas with the Malcom Jenkins hands.
Jenkins wouldn’t have gotten close to that pass.
That was Dawkins!
Yeah man, looked like it.
If Dawk weighed another 20lbs. Nice hit.
Dawks hit much bigger guys than him and put them down with authority. Looked just like a Dawkins hit actually.
Just pointing out that Chancellor brings even more weight. I loved watching Dawkins destroy guys. He played with complete abandon but always under control. Easily one of my favorite Eagles of all time.
Dawkins was 220 by the end of his career, Kam is listed as 230
Holy shit, Kam Chancellor just destroyed Tolbert.
Unreal. He’s my favourite S of the NFL.
Fuck the playoffs, lol SIXERS are balling!! Wroten just threw it Off the backboard to KJ McSLAMiels. WOULDNT believe how awesome this SIXERS game is. Pinch me am I dreaming?
Sigh I refuse to root for wins and we have 2 teams behind us
Don’t matter. Worst team NEVER gets top pick, and once Pekovic and Rubio get back the wolves will win more games then us.
Yeah but we can get pushed back as far as 6 if we were guaranteed the 3rd pick like the nfl them u wouldn’t care as much
2nd worst record only pushed us to 5… There are worst fates than getting stuck drafting Porzingis, Justice Winslow or Stanley Johnson… Actually, from a team building stand point, those are probably better fits than the two Bigmen and the point guard, but I’d still love to add OKafor or Towns given the chance
I’m really sorting on Mudiay my dream scenario was getting a top 2 pick getting a tom in a tade back to like 5 and getting Winslow or Johnson.
MUDIAY is going to be good. At the very least he will grow into a John Wall Type, but he could be as good as westbrook..I don’t mind drafting him, but I prefer OKafor and Towns.
I’m meant to say I’m souring on Mudiay been watching more and his jump shot concerns me as do his turnovers looks Wroten -esque at times but has a high ceiling and great athleticism but if you draft him MCW is fine because they can’t play together
No 18yr old PGs in the USA can shoot
I’m torn. I want them to improve. I want them to play like a team and play good defense and move the ball on offense. I also want them to keep losing 😛
You wouldn’t believe how entertaining they are playing tonight… Raining 3pointers at like a crazy 50%, and the dunks and do alley oops from KJ, Wroten, Nerlens, and Grant are awesome
Oh I’m watching, flipping between. that and the playoff game
He cracks me up the way he is on the sidelines. This is going to be a fun team.
I want them to win. All I care about is that the Heat pick is around 11-15.
Thing with the Heat is with Detroit balling they might now make the playoffs, but you don’t want the pick to fall too much, need at least 3 West teams to be worse than them
Their pick is top 10 protected, what worries me is if they start to tank.
Yeah that’s what I’m talking about need other teams to stay below them
Covington was a nice find. When this team is in place, he’s going to be nice coming off the bench.
That’s insane. Unbelievable that it’s legal.
Lol a 21 play 35 yard field goal drive
Seahawks are unbelievable. Contesting every FG. Wonder if they’ll do it on extra points too.
That hit by Chancellor on Tolbert will make the top 10 list of best tackles this year!
I got a feeling that we will see a huge upset tonight.
That’s what I’m hoping for.
wow didn’t you call it earlier?
Weren’t you feeling a 38-35 win though: P

Chip Kelly’s interview w/Chris Polian for “GM” job has taken place, per
source. Chip asked for, and received, permission earlier this week.
I hope we go another direction. The pro for him is that he’s probably the most experienced of the candidates having experience in day-to-day management of football operations, contracts, as well as pro and college scouting. The negative is it seems like he had personality conflicts with people in Indy and while those might not be his fault(hard to know unless you really pay a lot of attention to the team) and it doesn’t seem we’d want to go there considering Roseman also had some of the same difficulties. Plus, Indy’s drafting record wasn’t particularly good when he had the GM title.

Pro for Polian is nothing. Con is that his dad got him his job and he sucks.
I’m not a Polian fan, but honestly, I don’t care who gets the job as long as the Eagles do a good job on draft day.
Fitterer looks like a more intelligent candidate for the job than Sheldon White.
So seeing Dick Lebeau just got fired by the Steelers, Chip wants a Pittsburgh 2 gap 3-4, and our current DC trained in that system doesn’t know what DBs to play and/or what technique to use with them………………………………..
why aren’t we firing Davis and hiring Lebaeu right now?
Heard Dick left his own call. I’d love to see it, but I would do it quietly in case he turns us down.
He was quoted as saying leaving but not retiring. We need to hire him.
Agreed.
They’re not firing Davis. Hire LeBeau as a senior coaching assistant or a defensive consultant.
To yell at Davis for making brutal decisions with the starting 11 and what guys to keep on the 53?
To assist Davis. Kelly is the one deciding which guys to keep on the 53. Likely the starting 11 too. LeBeau is 77 years old. He might not want the full-time workload of being a defensive coordinator anymore and/or teams might be leery of hiring someone of that age for the job.
At 77 or 177 I’d expect him to explain why one signs Glover Quin instead of Patrick Chung, why one doesn’t bring back Nate Allen, and why one should be so short of ILBs that a few injuries keep Casey Matthews on this roster.
I’d agree that those were not wise moves, but while there are plenty of valid criticisms of Davis, I highly doubt he had anywhere near final call on those decisions.
You’re not wrong, but the fact that the Eagles aren’t prepping for Green Bay tomorrow means that everybody in the organization needs to be a target for abuse right now.
Even the secretaries and the gardeners?
Yes. Grounds crew. Marketing department. The family of Jerry Williams and Rich Kotite. EVERYBODY.
Send the cheerleaders to my place. I will provide the appropriate discipline.
I’ll join you.
Ummm….not to sound creepy, but where do you live?
LeBeau is about 102, isn’t he? Maybe tired, ready to retire.. The post below sounds about right. A consultant.
I don’t understand how that’s not a flag. Whole point of the slide is to protect the QB, so how is that not a flag?
Because Cam sucks.
Because his name’s not Brady or Manning 😛
Because he’s a sucky scramble bum who’d rather be an icon than learn how to play QB the right way. He’s trash.
I know you hate scramblers, but that has nothing to do with whether the QB is protected on a slide. It’s BS that they pick up the flag for QBs like Cam, Kap, and RG3 but if you breathe wrong on Peyton or Brady you get flagged. This is the year we first saw the ‘hit the QB too hard’ penalty after all.
If we never got the benefit of those flags with Cunningham, McNabb, or Vick………… NOBODY deserves them. There are 31 fan bases and teams who all should kill themselves.
One of many areas I have a serious beef with the NFL. If they’re going to protect their pocket QBs, then scramblers like Wilson, Kap, and Cam deserve the same protection. Of course, my general feeling is I miss 80’s and early 90’s football where you could tear a guy’s head off.
Scramblers like Kaep and Cam deserve nothing except a position switch to TE or LB like their HS coaches should have done.
Jenkins would have dropped that pick 6 just like he did a couple of times in the 2nd half of the season.
Well the Panthers at least hung around and gave the Seahawks a tougher game than I thought.
Russell Wilson will get paid this offseason and SEA’s going to have to make some tough decisions about who to keep and who to let go.
They really don’t have to pay him for another year.
No, they don’t. Apparently they are going to though based on reports.
Good for them if they do. He’s a great player.
Hearing they’ll make him highest paid QB very soon
He should be paid very well, but not more than Rodgers.
Shouldn’t be but Rodgers got his cash on a lower cap before all these mediocre Qbs got P A I D
FUCK THE SEAHAWKS
Why? F Cam Newton who should be playing TE or LB because he isn’t a good QB.
I just hate their goddamn leigon of boom, and that asshole sherman
They shut down that lazy piece of human garbage Kaepernick, so they’re all good in my book.
lol touche
In a vacuum, I’d totally see the hate towards the LOB. But considering how Kaep and Scam are human garbage who should have been switched to LB or TE by their HS coaches, I have to root for Seattle to put those teams and that style of QB play in it’s place.
What style? Scrambling cuz Wilson runs too
Totally different style of running. If you read some Greg Cosell he does a great job explaining how Wilson is Steve Young and Cam / Kaep suck.
I also just hate the prefferential treatment that they get from the refs. I can remember so many times in the eagles game where they mauled our wrs and got away with it. drove me crazy
I dont hate it, i admire and envy it.
if they played for the eagles, i’d love them, but they are so annoying, and honestly, no eagles would ever act like that. it is all what pete carrol likes. he’s an asshole, so all his players are going to be assholes
What is Pete doing that you call him names? He coaches a very successful team, most of whom were mid-round picks. He has a system that he and the others make work. He gets excited on the sidelines, like a kid sometimes. He’s entertaining, which is why the league, the media and the public eat it up.
Respect and envy a touch. Still, fact that they openly flout the rules and by and large get away with it irritates me.
I think they are very skilled at not getting caught and knowing when to stop touching the receiver, and they are very skilled at jamming the receiver. Thats different then the refs giving them leniency. They are extremely skilled at getting in the way of the receiver and making the receiver change their route.
My feeling is they dare the refs to flag them every play. They get flagged a ton, but no ref wants to throw a flag on every play, so they start letting the comparably ‘minor’ stuff go. Never mind they would flag anyone else for it. Yes, they’re skilled and talented, but they openly push the rules.
They are acctually one of the lesser penalized secondaries in the league.
Pretty much exactly what jarock just said:
http://www.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303754404579310500005285822
But everything i said for the most part is allowed. They are just very skilled at doing it, and within the rules knowing when to stop. Alot of times they get in the way of the receiver and make the receiver dramatically change his route, which people confuse with PI, but its not, its legal.
Probably part of their ‘Take-away Thursday’ practice schedule.
He actually played good up untill that monumental f***up. Better then Sanchez and alot of QBs have against there D at least. Chancelor, what a great late pick, along with the rest of their secondary. Crazy that all of them besides Earl Thomas who was a 1st round pick have been taken in the 5th round or later.
He should have been taken out from under center 10 years ago.
Dude, you’re entitled to your opinion, but your prejudice runs deep.
Whatever. F Cam. His style of play ruins football. I don’t need to see there jabroni players running all over the place instead of dropping back to pass.
Want to make sure I didn’t step on toes. I was referring to prejudice against running QBs, not racism in any way shape or form. I enjoy your opinions, even if I don’t always agree.
No worries. I’m like Larry Brown, I like the game being played the right way. Huge McNabb fan and love Wilson / Bridgewater now. The “I want to be an icon” stuff from guys like Cam bothers me.
Thats football man. It evolves all the time. From the days before the forward pass was invented, to the actual changing of the shape of the football, to pure pocket passers, to some QBs being scrambling QBs. Its not ruining football, its a part of football.
The visual aspect of seeing that development in the game is most unwelcome. I think it erodes the skill and intellect necessary for playing the game in a way worth viewing.
I think and i think alot of people will agree with me that it adds excitment to the game. Is he going to run or pass. Thought he was going to be sacked but spun out of it and ran for 50 yards. QB stiff arming the best FS in league (Cam on Thomas).
A lot of people can agree with you if they want, but ultimately that many QBs all running all the time would drive me from watching the NFL. I see it as sloppy rather than exciting.
Blame Fran Tarkenton, then Randle Cunningham.
They just made football unbearable to watch.
Funny that neither won a title, but I’ll admit that Cunningham was captivating to cheer for as a youngster. Sadly we all had to learn the hard way that running too much and throwing across one’s body was far too often going to result in game losing INTs. I wish our coaches had the smarts to deploy Cunningham in the way the Vikings did during that epic season he had with them. The great reading, great passing, hardly ever running version of Cunningham in Minnesota showed the level of career he could have had if people didn’t try to pump up that “Ultimate Weapon” bs.
Roger and the rules are just responding to the perception of the casual public who think that football is just so mean and nasty that they might stop buying the products which are advertised in the multi-million dollar Super Bowl commercial breaks.
Totally agree Cam is vastly improved. He played much better in the pocket than he used to, he didn’t panic and run helter-skelter, his O line gave him a lot of time, sometimes, and if he had a couple of receivers who could CATCH the ball, the outcome of the game could have been different. I live in the Seattle area, with many folks wearing 12s and if I can’t root for Philly in the playoffs, well…. But I still thought Cam deserved better.
Don’t give a damn as long as Dallas loses I’m good
They will lose.
They better. I honestly dont know what id do if the cowboys won the superbowl
You’d wake up because it would be only in a dream.
Nightmare.
Drink. A lot.
Id be pounding pbr’s like chris christie pounds doughnuts
Christie should be pounded in his face for his support of Dallas and destruction of schools in NJ.
You’ll get alcohol poisoning.
Become a hermit and never show your face to your coworkers who are dallas fans and who.you have bet ALOT of money against saying they would lose to GB. Just sayen.
yeah. sounds about right
Ahhhhh…the benefit of having 2 good safeties. I almost forget what that feels like.
Good news is we don’t have a 7 win team playing for the NFC Championship. Bad news is we’re stuck hearing how great Seattle is for minimum one more week.
Scary part – 17pts Seattle gave up today is the most they’ve given up in 7 weeks now.
Don’t know why having a 7 win team in would have bothered you so much
Sorry, I don’t believe that having a 7win division winner in the playoffs is good for football. I know I’m in the minority there, but that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.
My thing is you have more wins and were give the advantage of an extra week plus home field if you still lose then that’s not bad for football that’s great, if we just say of this team has more wins and is more deserving then there is no point of having playoffs after he regular season but like you said its just your opinion and you’re entitled to have it
I agree that having a garbage team like the Panthers in the playoffs is ugly, but the occurrence of that is very rare in the current playoff format. I’m actually more upset that the NFL is talking about adding a 7th playoff team, but won’t commit to make it a 3 Saturday / 3 Sunday game format and instead are talking some Monday night game nonsense.
So we’re agreed; Green Bay wins tomorrow or we start a go fund me for beatings of everybody associated with the Cowboys!
Funded within 17 minutes.
I’m glad the Seahawks won, because if through some Miracle the Cowboys win tomorrow they’ll have to try and go to Seattle to get to the super bowl… Much tougher than the Panthers.
Seattle losing twice to anybody in a season; doubtful. I agree with your point completely.
I was talking about this last night all along.
In appx 6 hours the Green Bay Packers will either perform their duty with distinction and banish Dallas, Jerry Jones, and Chris Christie from my TV until August or perform seppuku on live TV as is their duty to salvage their honor in such a failure.
lots of people here were bowing down to Harbough last evening, but his team gave up two different 14 point leads, and each time in what seemed like only 4 minutes.
I’m just frustrated. They had a really good chance. I really doubt Denver or Indy will have much chance.
What will help either Denver on Indy, if you’re trying to get the Pats knocked off, if that Bellicheat’s D does much worse in a 2nd meeting with the same team than it does in the first.
I happen to think the Pats are still going to win and meet Seattle in the title game. I’d find that to be a very compelling and interesting Super Bowl from a ton of different matchups. I’d love to see it.
but what if it’s NE and Dallas?!?! the horror, the horror
No chance. Even if Dallas cheats to win again today there is no way Seattle is going to allow Dallas to beat them twice in the same season.
I know a lot of people were Rosemanites for a number of years, but based on this description I think they could quickly become Fittererers.
I’ll still tell you both guys are great and Kelly is great…………………but rip any move / result I don’t like to shreds!
[…] The Right Fitterer? – Iggles BlitzOne of the benefits to Fitterer would be that he’s been part of the personnel staff that built the best secondary in the NFL. […]
Rex Ryan to Bills. Likely to hire either Marc Trestman or Greg Roman as his OC. He’s bringing Jets’ DC Dennis Thurman with him. I don’t know if that means they let Schwartz go elsewhere(4-3 guy, Ryan runs a 3-4) or Thurman is giving some title like Asst HC/DBs coach. I’m afraid the Giants will end up with Schwartz.
Wow, that’s a lot of changeover for a team that really only (and still) lacks a QB.
Odd hire. I figured Rex would be a better fit in Atlanta. Pegula must have outspent Blank big time.
Seems like a dead end.
And I think Schwartz will be out of work for about 10 minutes.
In 2013 the Bills defense was coached by Mike Petine who took Ryans scheme to the Bills.
Greg Roman seems like the best hire if he wants a power O
Yes, I oversimplified. Ryan’s scheme is more of 3-4/4-3 hybrid but Schwartz’s scheme is noticeably different. The Bills’ D was good in 2013 but noticeably improved last year.
Unfortunately, he and the Giants are a good fit.
I see Spags as a better fit for Coach C. Spags worked for him already and isn’t likely to be seen as a guy who will be gunning for that job. Schwartz wants another HC chance I’m sure.
The Giants just interviewed Pepper Johnson for DC. He was the LB coach for the Bills I think. But since he was a Giants player, they may lean toward him.
If they hire him there should be non-stop clips of this played everywhere for a year;
http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/videos/videos/Vantage-Point-Big-Moments-Vs-Big-Blue/7d1cca6b-844c-44ac-9c0c-7b9c7365f3cf
The good stuff is starting around 3:30 – 3:45 mark.
I always remember this when I hear either name.
Correct!
I think Atlanta will hire Todd Bowles.
That would be a great hire for them. Bowles, due to garbage talent and a bad situation all around, didn’t get a fair shake here. The dude is a flat out genius on D and was good as the interim HC for Miami. I’m a huge Bowles fan.
Reportedly the Raiders are undecided between simply keeping Sparano in place or waiting for Jack Del Rio. With Ryan getting the Bills job, it’s looking like Shurmur is staying.
I love Shurmur and would love to see him get a 2nd chance at a HC job after he was fired for improving the Browns.
Del Rio being a head coach again is F-ing comical. If Del Rio leaves for a HC job, maybe Denver can hire Spags and keep him away from the Giants.
I don’t think Shurmur has the type of personality that successful head coaches have. He’s a good offensive coordinator and should stick with that.
Some people, Pat Kirwan for instance, speaks very highly of Shurmur as both the OC for Chip and the Rams while also being high on his work at Cleveland.
I haven’t been able to verify this but I’m pretty sure I read awhile back that Kirwan is either represented by or very good friends with Bob Lamonte. Lamonte is Pat Shurmur’s agent, along with a ton of other guys. I’m not trying to discredit Shurmur but I don’t think Kirwan’s opinion is unbiased.
That could certainly come into it, but I’d rate Kirwan as consistently the best analyst on football out there. His show on Sirius, in spite of Jim Miller’s attempts to ruin it, is the best.
What is wrong with Del Rio, the Jags has been even worse after he left
I don’t know how you could axe me such a stupid question about the ineptness of this guy as a HC.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?id=1634484
Also, apparently Ryan wants to keep Schwartz as DC. Schwartz does have some experience in the 3-4, although it was a while back. I see that scenario as ripe for friction but who as it’s the Bills I really don’t care. It’s good that Schwartz won’t be available for the Giants.
True, but adding Spags seriously would improve the brain trust up there over Perry Fewell.
Spags had one good stint up there with the Giants but has struggled since. I don’t think he’s all that.
I’d disagree with you on that. If Jim Johnson had gotten ill 2 years earlier;
– Spags would have been our DC instead of idiot McDermott
– The Giants never win the title in 07
– The Eagles don’t choke to Arizona in 08
I’m a huge Spags fan.
I think there are a few pros to the idea of LeBeau. So here’s my short list (all speculative):
– He’s 77 and may not want to uproot to a new city far from Pittsburgh where his home is. Philly is 4 1/2 hour drive away.
– He already has a relationship with Billy D, and while he may want the top spot he also might take an adviser role or title like Asst. DC, or Asst HC.
– He’s got a lot of experience working with the secondary and would immediately help ours in terms of coaching
– He’s a guru of the defense Chip Kelly likes to run.
Here are some cons:
– Continuity. Yes Davis and LeBeau run the same type of defense, but each coach has their own stamp on it
– Davis may have to give up DC title, when he’s looking for head coaching positions in the future
– Allen keeps biting on the fakes and misses help over the top for one of the CBs and LeBeau murders him on the sideline.
Okay maybe not the last one, but I think this is an intriguing idea. I see more positives than negatives, but I’m not closed to this idea. I’m willing to do anything to improve our team in any way.
Switch the last one from con to pro. Apparently one of the reasons he left Pittsburgh was because of his loyalty to veterans like Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu. The Steelers want to cut them and he didn’t like that. That may actually appeal to Kelly. I personally think that holding on to old-timers is usually a bad idea. Of course I thought that letting go of Dawkins was a good move and we all so how that played out.
the ozzie newsome school of football seems to work. pitt has done a terrible job of drafting so they don’t have any replacement players for the guys that have been around for like 15 years.
Pro – He’s not Billy Davis.
For your first pro, most signs point to him joining Arians in Arizona once Bowles get his HC job
Yeah, I said that last night on this thread, but that’s all the way across the country. Considering how both he and Arians were booted from Pittsburgh, that seems like the natural fit.
But I’ve seen crazier things happen than an 77 year old decide against moving across country.
hc jobs evaporating, i haven’t really heard bowles being in the conversation for anything, have you?
I think Arizona may have blocked the interviews. I did hear some about it, but it’s been like a week.
Teams can’t block interviews for head coach.
They could while they hadn’t been booted from the playoffs yet. May have been a Rooney Rule move with the chance of great upside, and then when they couldn’t get the interview, they moved on to the next guy.
Yes, you are correct, but he’s had 4 interviews since then. He’s interviewed with Chicago, SF, ATL, and I believe the Jets. We’ll see what happens. I project it goes down like this: CHI – Gary Kubiak; SF – Adam Gase; ATL – Todd Bowles; NYJ – Dan Quinn; OAK – keep Tony Sparano or Jack Del Rio
Soooo in the future I’m just take your word for it, ha. Thanks for all the twitter updates–I’m way too late to that party to figure the app out.

Falcons once offered HC job to Jason Garrett, who will be free agent when
Dallas season ends. Multiple Cowboys asst coach contracts also up.
Garrett has a mixed record. They improved vastly this year because they had better coordinators. That said, I doubt Jones lets Garrett leave. It’d be hard to outbid him financially. The Falcons already have a GM so it’s doubtful they’d entice him with having control of personnel.
Blank vs. Jones bidding war for Garrett would be classic. Push it to a 7 year / $70 mil HC contract?
Blank should be on the sideline in disguise today and immediately grab Garrett as soon as the clock hits all zeros on Green Bay’s 82-2 win to start contract negotiations with Garrett.
How did Dallas get a safety?
Discount Double Checking in the end zone as a gag to see how much Goodell would fine Rodgers.

Looks like the Jets are locked in on Dan Quinn.

If Seahawks lost to Panthers, Jets were prepared to fly to Seattle last
night to try to hire Dan Quinn as their head coach, per sources.
Dan Quinn needs to have a secret 2nd agreement in place to get his job back in Seattle after the situation with the Jets blows up again.
Yeah, I agree. He reportedly wants to try to hire Kyle Shanahan as his OC. While his teams have tended to have on-the-field success, from everything I have gathered Shanahan is a complete tool off-the-field.
Watching
all this pregame fox bullshit it’s easy to see why the Detroit Lions
were cheated and ripped off last week, Ratings=$$$$$$$$$$$$
I love Aaron Rodgers(today), and I’d like all of you to love him, too.
And so today, when you hit you knees, please ask God to love him.
As soon as their season end the Cowboys will immediately get Jason Garrett signed to a new contract. Whew, that must be a relief to Cowboys fans! Howdy Doody is staying!!(Puppet reference, or look-a-like, can’t go wrong either way.)
While I appreciate every bit of Intel i can get on this hunt for the next executive, as fans its pretty silly to pretend we even have anything close to enough facts to even have opinions on what would be the best candidate, and I prefer not talking just to talk…
..
So I’m going to fall, back, understand that I don’t have close to enough info to know if we made the right choice in this search, and probably never truely know if the guy we hire is even doing a good job or not.
..
I take comfort knowing that no matter who we hire, their wont be a player signed or drafted that Chip hasn’t looked at closely and given his stamp of approval, so who we hire ismt THAT important… It becomes Important in trade negotiations with other teams, but unfortunately we rarely ever find out the truth about what trades were on the table that we turned down, so we will never truly know how good this exec is that we hire, so picking the coolest name, or the guy who comes from the executive tree I like the best is pretty pointless…. 90% of these guys, I wouldn’t recognize if they walked up to me and punched me in the face, pretending otherwise is foolish and doesn’t interest me much.
…
Fortunately we have a brilliant coach, who knows talemt, has built his own college program similar to a GM. Fortunately our coach is so obsessed that he studies college prospects on Saturdays during the season… Chip will approve every single player that is added to this roster, and that gives me some comfort regardless of who fillls gambles spot
I wonder if Lambeau field has Pig Insurance. You know, in case Christie falls out of the owner’s box
Lol @silly Eagles fans over rating Cam Newton prematurely… To be happy that a QB with 50 starts “looks better than your young QB with 20 starts, every once in a blue moon, makes you a pretty pathetic, delusional, bitch of an Egles fan… ATleast you are consistent
..
LOL @ sCAM Newton…. What a joke
always insightful and thoughtful IMO
lol puppet
smart to go back and edit you’re comment IMO, people forget to do that
Wait, didn’t the Eagles win the division?
Please refrain from blowing the QB of another teams 6’10 season… Thank you.. In half a season, And 30 less starts, FOles won more games than sCAM NEWTON did with an op ranked defense LOL….get a clues. And stop sucking opposing QB cock
..
You have done a solid job of taking your meds recently… Don’t slip up and relapse today
Billy Davis is going no where, he has the youngest DL playing like one of the best… labeu won’t even be considered. Silly discussion
I wonder if the fact that we have very little secondary (and limited) linebacker talent is what’s saving billy d’s job.
What’s saving his job is our coach understanding the process, not having ridiculous unrealistic expectations like fans.. Considering the process, Billy has done a great job. Billy’s defense just carried the great chip kelly office for half a season, I can assure you chip DOESNT view billy negatively AT ALL… Just bullshit fanboy, media crap, that don’t understand the process DOESNT happen over night
..
I promise you billy is so much safer than most realize
I agree but we can improve the coaching staff around him. I thought the assistant coaching hiring process was somewhat ass-backwards. Kelly formed his staff of defensive assistants comprised of college coaches he was familiar with and then found an experience pro guy to run the scheme he wanted. He should have found a defensive coordinator he had trust in first and then let that guy fill out the defensive staff.
I believe chip is high on Billy
I don’t know about others, but I’m not suggesting hiring LeBeau to replace Davis. LeBeau and Davis both come from the same coaching tree and worked together in the early 90s in Pittsburgh. LeBeau’s original background is as a defensive back and then secondary coach and that seems like where the defensive coaching staff is weakest. I think he could have value as a defensive consultant or some other assistant role.
No, I know… I actually don’t have anyone specific in mind… I’m a defensive diehard. I’d dance in the streets if we added Labeu in any capacity, I just don’t view it as realistic.
..
He can work for any team he wants im some capacity… He has underlings from his coaching tree sprinkled all over the league.. I would expect plenty of his former pupils to offer him consultant jobs or smaller position jobs on their staff.
…
Yes, but at 77 years old and his and his spouse’s family possibly being in the Pittsburgh area, he might not want to move that far. He could take a part-time consultant job, live in Pittsburgh and then commute to Philly or a place like Cleveland, Buffalo or Cincinatti when required.
Fingers crossed… I’d love to be wrong
I don’t want Davis to lose his spot, but adding a defensive guru to the coaching staff can’t hurt. I don’t hate Davis, quite the opposite. But LeBeau can add strength to that staff. I had a reply below that if Dick was cool with a fancy title where he still gets to coach, we could be a good option. Davis is the DC, but considering this is the one guy who has most influenced his coaching style, Davis may be willing to want to bring him in.
IMHO it’s all on how Davis would feel about it, but I could see him wanting to have his mentor around.
I’m about as nervous and ornery as an Eagles playoff game,..WTF
..
Can’t believe i have to desperately root for all these teams I despise
Rumor has it, that chip is making a trip to the championship game on Monday.. Rumblings of Chip Hiring Colt Lyerla to “Tonya Hardings” Marriotta’s Knee before the championship game…..
Chip is getting desperate because he doesn’t think he can frame Boyscots Marriotta for a crime between now and the draft… Desperate times call for drastic measures..
Woah.

@JayGlazer reports #Broncos coach John Fox might be available if team loses. Pretty good chance.
So, what do they do? Promote Gase? Name Peyton QB/Head Coach?
Update: Just checked Cole’s timeline and I didn’t see this? I don’t know if his feed isn’t updating for me for some reason or someone hacked Middlekauf’s account.
That’s so stupid if they do… Peyton only has a year or two left, you don’t fuck up the continuity and break it up for one year of pEyton with a new coach… I don’t even like Fox, and Peyton is probably just as responsible for Denver’s success as Fox is…
..
Fox should coach the Broncos until Peyton retires and they are forced to rebuild… To make a change for what could be Peyton’s last year would be so stupid
If Rogers doesn’t win today, I dont care what the circumstances he will have been eliminated toomany times since Super Bowl win… He has the better team today, he is ridiculous at home…if he is this GOD that we view him as, he needs ton Teo the fuck up and deliver.. When the hell was the last time he won a playoff game? The Super Bowl?
Okay folks, I’m planted in front of the tv and ready for the game. I’ve parked my car in the garage in case Dallas wins – I’ll start it and just sit there until I fall asleep…
Seattle, New England, keep yourself alive there’s a few teams out there that are going to be tough. If the scum win the Super Bowl though, why don’t all Eagles fans just meet at the Walt Whitman Bridge? We can sing the fly eagles fly song while holding hands and jumping.
I might not make it that far. The Bay Bridge is 20 min from my house…
So Bryson Maxwell sat out yesterday for “shortness of breath” in a playoff game, while rookie Kelvin Benjamin Sodomized Tharlod Simon to the tune of 7 catches, 75 yards and 2 TDs?…. Interesting….
..
Doug Free ISNT playing today. Expect heavy pressure from Peppers attacking RT..
..
Hard for me to criticize Maxwell for that. With the weather in Seattle, it’s very easy to get congestion to the point that it’s impossible to play.
I’ll have to take your word for it… Never experienced anything like that
New thread is up folks.
Nice start!!!!!!!!!!!
