Reagor Goes Purple

Somewhat kind of slightly disappointing first round pick Jalen Reagor just ran the best out route of his life.

I am glad to have Reagor join the exclusive club known as Ex-Eagles. He was a disappointing player. Beyond that, talking about him was torturous. If you said anything good about him you were met with “Not as good as Justin Jefferson”. If you were critical of him you were met with “I told you we should have drafted Justin Jefferson”. Ugh. Thankfully those discussions will be fewer and further between.

Howie Roseman got good compensation for a player that neither he nor the coaching staff believed in anymore. Reagor had fallen to being the #5 WR and the PR.

The Eagles now have an open spot at receiver and PR. They could promote Britain Covey or look for someone outside the organization. Stay tuned.

That is some Eagles-Twilight Zone stuff. Crazy.

The Eagles found a #3 QB.

The Saints drafted Book in the fourth round in 2021. He started one game, going 12-20-135 with no TDs and 2 INTs. They have Jameis Winston as their starter this year and Andy Dalton backing him up. Book didn’t play well enough this summer to convince them to go with three QBs. He was cut yesterday and claimed by the Eagles.

I liked Book coming out of Notre Dame. I saw him as a backup QB, not necessarily a future starter. He lacks ideal size at 6-0, 206. Solid arm. Good athlete. In college he was a playmaker. When things broke down, he could run around and make something out of nothing. I value that ability in a backup.

I watched Book’s preseason games today and came away with mixed feelings. He has a solid arm. Very good mobility. Book ran for 121 yards this summer. It was hard to get a good feel for him because the Saints backup OL was so leaky. Book wasn’t running for the fun of it. As a runner, Book is both elusive and fast. He threw one good deep ball in the games, but the receiver couldn’t make the catch. Book showed pretty good accuracy. He looked like someone that could develop into a good backup QB. He’s not there yet.

Gardner Minshew will be a free agent after this season. Regardless of what happens with Jalen Hurts, the Eagles will need a backup. Adding Book gives them a year to see if he can fill that role.

Now let’s look at the practice squad, which offically has 15 players on it. Matt Leo is an international player and doesn’t count toward the 16-player limit. That means two spots are open.

QB Reid Sinnett
RB Kennedy Brooks
WR Britain Covey
WR Devon Allen
WR Deon Cain
TE Noah Togiai
OL Le’Raven Clark
OL Kayode Awosika
OL Cameron Tom

DL Marvin Wilson
LB Christian Elliss
S Anthony Harris
DB Andre Chachere
CB Mario Goodrich

DE Matt Leo (Intl player)

Those final two spots could be filled by RB La’Mical Perine and LB Davion Taylor. The Eagles cut Taylor today and would probably want to bring him back unless he’s claimed on waivers. As for Perine…

He would be the power back the Eagles currently lack.

I’m most excited for the return of Devon Allen. He has tremendous potential due to his explosive speed. He’s got to refine his skills as a receiver and STs player. I was worried another team would claim him, but luckily the Eagles were able to bring him back.

It is interesting that the Eagles brought back Brooks and not Jason Huntley. It is possible Huntley chose not to sign with the Eagles, but I’m guessing this was more their choice than his. Huntley just didn’t show much growth over the course of three years.

Brooks has limitations, but I like him as a runner and think he could develop into an effective role player.

The only two players I don’t care for are Christian Elliss and Cameron Tom. Neither guy impressed me during the preseason. The coaches feel they are worth keeping around to either develop or have on hand as practice players. I hope they take advantage of the opportunity.
