Gameday – DEN at PHI

The Eagles won a tough game last week, but you sure wouldn’t know it by all the talk this week. There is all kinds of noise around the offense and the lack of a consistent passing game. The run game is also troubled, but there isn’t as much talk about that.

So here comes another tough opponent. Even worse, they have a really good defense. The Eagles can respond to this in a couple of different ways. They could melt down and finally lose their first game of the season. Or maybe the challenge will bring out the best in a team with championship pedigree. They could rise to the occasion and play their best game of the year.

I don’t know what to expect.

I guess there is actually a third option. The Eagles could be erratic again and make a couple of key plays to pull out another tough win. That formula isn’t sustainable long term, but could happen today. The Broncos are good. Still, they’ve been erratic themselves.

The Eagles are reasonably healthy.

Only four inactives? There is an open roster spot right now so that makes sense. You would assume that spot is being saved for Nakobe Dean, who will be activated soon.

Azeez Ojulari will make his Eagles debut. The team had high hopes for him when they signed the free agent. He was thought to be the #3 edge rusher. Ojulari disappointed this summer and spent the month of September watching football. This is a new month and he’ll hit the field today. It would be great to see game action bring out the best in him.

It sounds like Kelee Ringo is going to start.

Obviously Jimmy isn’t a very trustworthy source, but I’m feeling generous so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt today. Ringo played a solid game last week. He should be feeling more confident this time out. It will be interesting to see if he can build on the Bucs game.

I’m not sure what is more important today, winning or getting the offense to play a full game. That might sound crazy, but the long term outlook for this team depends more on the offense figuring things out than winning a single game in early October. I sure hope the coaches and players have the right plan for today. We’ll all be watching AJ Brown closely. It would be ideal to see him get some early touches. Good touches. Quick screens or slants on third and long aren’t good touches.

Jalen Hurts is at his best against man coverage so maybe this matchup will bring out the best in him. Sure would be great to see that.

Will the Eagles have a STs advantage today?

It would be crazy to see a third straight game with a blocked kick. Maybe Will Shipley or Tank Bigsby will break off a long KOR. Any advantage would help in a tough game like this.
