Game Preview – PHI at DAL
Posted November 22nd, 2025 | 2 Comments »We know the Eagles will take on the Cowboys Sunday afternoon. What we don’t know is which version of those teams will show up. Dallas has struggled on defense all year, but some talented additions helped them to play their best game last week. The Eagles offense was good for two games and then struggled the last two.
So who is going to show up?
Let’s start with our beloved Cowboys! They are 4-5-1 on the season, but they are red hot…based on a one-game winning streak over one of the worst teams in the league. I guess you can see I’m still a Doubting Thomas when it comes to the Boys. They are a better team than a month ago. I don’t question that for a second. I just don’t want to buy into any hype coming after a win over the hapless Raiders.
The defense has added some talent over the course of the season. This won’t be the same bunch the Eagles faced in the opener.
DT Quinnen Williams
DE Jadeveon Clowney
LB DeMarvion Overshown
LB Logan Wilson
CB Shannon Revel
Williams is a difference-maker with his ability to be disruptive and make plays. He had 5 QB hits last week. Overshown is a speedy LB who can fly around and make plays. Clowney has 2 sacks and 2 QB hits in 7 games. Dallas held Vegas to just 236 yards and 16 points.
The Cowboys still have a vulnerable secondary. They are 30th in passing yards allowed. They are also 30th in opponent passer rating. They struggle to cover. The Raiders threw for 238 yards on them with garbage wide receivers. This defense is better, but the Eagles should be able to move the ball and score points on them.
The Dallas defense doesn’t need to be good because the offense is terrific. They are third in yards and second in points. There are only two games where they scored less than 20 points. Dallas had a combined 7 turnovers in those games. If they protect the ball, they will score. Dak Prescott is having one of his best seasons. He’s no longer a gifted athlete, but he is a smart, talented pocket passer.
Prescott has great weapons. George Pickens is having a great year (58-908-7). CeeDee Lamb is always an impact receiver. TE Jake Ferguson has 7 TD catches. And the run game has taken a big step forward this season. Javonte Williams has recaptured the success he had early in his career. He’s run for 809 yards and 8 TDs. This is a tough, talented, balanced offense.
8) In terms of the run game, Javonte Williams is balling. Even when the blocking isn’t perfect, he is running through tackles and is creating a lot of yards after contact. He looks like he did coming out of college, when his contact balance was as good as it gets. It’s a strong… pic.twitter.com/DoK0vLl12B

Those weapons don’t do you much good if the OL can’t do their job. This isn’t a great Cowboys line, but LG Tyler Smith is a stud and the overall group has had a solid year.
The Dallas offense is better than they were in the season opener. The Eagles defense is a lot better than they were. Jalen Carter will actually play in this game and that will make a big difference. Jaelan Phillips has been an impact addition. Jalyx Hunt is playing at a high level. Nakobe Dean has been terrific in his return. Adoree Jackson is playing his best football. Drew Mukuba has grown a lot over the course of the season. The Eagles didn’t just shut down two teams by accident.
The Eagles won’t hold the Cowboys to single digits. Dallas is too good for that and is at home. Weather won’t be a factor. Prescott isn’t a runner, but his ability to move around and keep plays alive can be a major factor. I expect the Eagles to be solid against the run. I expect the pass rush to affect Prescott. I do think Pickens and Lamb will make some plays and that will lead to points. Tackling will be critical. Both Pickens and Lamb are good after the catch.
The real question for me is what to expect from the Eagles offense. They scored 26 points over the past two weeks combined. They will likely need to score 26 points to win this game. Can they do that? Dallas is allowing 29.3 points per game over the course of the season. Even with all the changes they will be vulnerable. The Eagles have scored 24 or more points in five games this season. They are capable, but only if they play much better than the last two games.
The Eagles just faced Micah Parsons and Aidan Hutchinson, two of the most disruptive pass rushers in the league. The gameplans were built on protection. Dallas has a solid rush, but they don’t have a game-wrecker. The Eagles coaches can be more aggressive this week if they so choose.
The Cowboys held the Raiders to just 27 yards rushing. But Vegas only ran 12 times. They didn’t really try. In the previous six games, Dallas gave up about 160 rushing yards per game. The personnel changes will certainly improve the run D, but the Eagles will test it to see just how much better they are. Saquon Barkley got tripped in GB and just missed a couple of long runs last week. Maybe this week he’ll break loose for another big one.

Aren’t we due for another one of those plays?
Going with 6 OL could be an issue since Fred Johnson will be playing RT with Lane Johnson out injured. They can put Matt Pryor in as the extra blocker. We’ll see if that’s something they do. Fred Johnson has been solid when he’s had to play this season. Dallas has some speedy edge rushers and they will try to test him. Cam Jurgens was dealing with a concussion. It feels like he will play, but Brett Toth can man the middle if needed.
Dallas has the worst third down defense in the league. If the Eagles can sustain drives, that will make the offense all the more dangerous and help the defense. Jalen Hurts needs to take advantage of the favorable situation. He’s got to make good reads and accurate throws. Hurts and the Eagles can shut a few people up with a good showing.
Prescott has a good track record against the Eagles, but that has changed in recent years.
No active QB has more wins against the Eagles than Dak Prescott (9), but the tide has been turning. The Eagles have beaten him in 2 of the last 3 matchups and are 5-2 vs Dallas since 2022 including 3 in a row.

A win in Dallas would all but lock up the NFC East for the Birds. They would be 9-2 and Dallas would have 6 losses, meaning the Eagles would need a disastrous finish (1-5) to lose the division. If the Eagles lose, they would still have a good lead, but Dallas would have a stronger sense of hope. This game is critical for Dallas. They will do anything and everything to win.
The Eagles don’t get hyped up for games. They focus on the task at hand. That formula has worked really well.
I’m really excited to see Vic Fangio and his defense go up against the Dallas offense.
Taylor Decker kept it real after the Detroit Lions were dominated by the Philadelphia Eagles defensive line…

The Eagles have faced a gauntlet of good QBs this year. They allow the lowest completion percentage and have given up the fewest passing TDs. It feels like this is a game where there is a lot of hype and hope with Dallas, but the Eagles will just show up and do their thing.
