More Depth
Posted March 30th, 2026 | 2 Comments »Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni are at the NFL owners meetings. That doesn’t mean they aren’t still working on ways to improve the roster. Howie announced another free agent signing on Sunday evening.
The Eagles are signing edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to a one-year deal, Howie Roseman says.

JTS is a former first round pick. He will turn 27 in a month so he’s still in the prime of his career. He’s got 45 career starts so that is a good amount of experience. JTS has good size at 6-5, 260. He was solid in his first three years, but hasn’t been as effective the last two seasons. The Eagles are buying low to see if he can come in and help with depth. JTS has the size and physicality that Jaelan Phillips did. He’s just not as athletic or consistently disruptive.
New #Eagles EDGE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka primarily relies on his length (34-inch arms) to win as a pass rusher and his main counters if that doesn’t work is in the inside swim move/hand swipes. Not someone who is going to turn the corner consistently but big on speed-to-power.

I think the one area new #Eagles EDGE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka can find snaps (if he can make the team out of camp) is in the run game. It accounted for a good bit of his production last year with the Browns and Bears, and it was a big area of growth with the Bucs.

This move doesn’t affect the edge rusher situation in any significant way. The Eagles could still try to work out a deal with the Vikings for Jonathan Greenard. With all 32 teams at the same place, you know there will be a lot of player discussions. If the Greenard situation doesn’t pan out, the Eagles will draft an edge rusher. They know they need help at that spot. JTS just gives them another body to throw into the equation. You do want good competition in Training Camp.
It is also important to remember that there is more than the 53-man roster. The practice squad is a good place to stash veteran players who can help when needed.

Howie spoke to reporters for a few minutes. He didn’t have anything significant to offer other than the JTS signing. I know some people have concerns about the safety position. Howie did address that.
Howie Roseman on safety: “It starts with using our second-round pick on (Drew) Makuba. See a lot of growth from the first to second year, and expect that from him. Really excited about him. I think we have some guys that either we brought back or that we signed that we have…

I think the Eagles are higher on Mukuba than some people realize. He did play well after getting off to a slow start. I think Marcus Epps can be an effective starter and there is still the question of how Michael Carter fits into all of this. There is a solid group of safeties in the draft. The Eagles will take one. We just don’t know how early.
We also did get an update on Andy Dalton.
Re: Dalton’s salary — After the trade, it was reported as the Eagles paying $4M this season. Because of a contract restructure that had the Panthers take on a part of the base salary as a bonus, the Eagles are paying Dalton $1.5M this season.
What does that mean for the QB depth… https://t.co/qMKEZRDZOn

That salary makes more sense for Dalton. $4M was a bit much for a third string QB.
Howie was of course asked about AJ Brown. His response was simply that AJ Brown is an Eagle. Some people are going to read into this. Don’t. That’s a non-answer answer. Brown is an Eagle. He is still available via trade. The situation remains up in the air.
