Slopfest
Posted August 15th, 2026 | No Comments »The Eagles preseason opener was ugly with a capital U. The Ravens were dominant in all three phases of the game. The Eagles were out-gained by almost 300 yards and didn’t score until the final minutes of the game.
Give Baltimore credit for playing well. But also make sure to acknowledge how poorly the Eagles performed. There were some good individual showings, but the overall team struggled mightily. The Eagles were 0 for 9 on third downs. They were 10-96 with penalties. The coaches will have a lot of mistakes to point out and teach from. Too many.
The bad showing doesn’t mean the Eagles are a bad team or it is time to panic.
As an old scout once told me- preseason is a liar. It’s helpful to see how guys move & react but be careful drawing any sweeping conclusions. That being said, much rather see young guys look good than bad. Ha

We need to study the tape to really evaluate specific players. I will go over some things that stood out to me as I watched the game.
QB – Andy Dalton struggled. Tanner McKee wasn’t great by any stretch, but he looked like QB2 to me. Cole Payton played late and used his legs very effectively.

Willie Lampkin looked legit.

He is fun to watch.
Markel Bell started at RT. I thoughtr he was up and down.
***
CB Mac McWilliams struggled.

DT Ty Robinson had some good moments.

He did have a dumb roughing penalty. He hit the QB well after the ball was out.

Darius Cooper has had a great summer. Unfortunately we didn’t see that guy tonight. He had one bad third down drop and failed to make plays.
***
TE Eli Stowers looked better than I expected, but didn’t do anything special. He had a holding call. I thought he gave solid effort as a blocker.
***
CB Kelee Ringo struggled in coverage but did make this play.

He is a bad CB. Wonder if he would be open to playing WR. That was a heckuva catch.
***
Rookie safety Maximus Pulley made plays on defense and STs. He had 8 tackles and was good in punt coverage.
***
The most important thing is that the Eagles came out of the game pretty healthy. Several teams have had guys get hurt.
***
Sean Mannion should not be blamed for the offensive struggles. The overall operation looked good to me. I thought the execution was a real issue. That must be fixed before next weekend. We do have to give the Ravens credit for playing good defense. It seemed like Eagles receivers struggled to get open.

Emery Jones Jr was a top 100 pick for Baltimore, and heading into the ‘24 season was talked about as a potential first-round guy out of LSU.
It’s one snap, but this is an excellent rep from Uar Bernard against a guy that’s played a ton of football at a high level. Baby steps… pic.twitter.com/Lxvo0xy9SH

Good to see he didn’t look out of place.

The defense was good at times, but the pass coverage was disappointing.
