Eagles Looking Better

Posted September 28th, 2026 | No Comments »

The 2026 season continues to be a wild ride. The Eagles are 2-0, but didn’t get there smoothly. After seeing some other teams play you should feel better about the guys in green.

The Eagles beat the Commanders 24-22 in the season opener. That win looks better after watching Washington beat Seattle yesterday, 33-31. Dan Quinn’s team is playing hard and has been competitive in all three games. The Eagles made a handful of key plays that proved to be the difference in their win. Yesterday it was Washington who made the key plays and that led to the upset of the defending Super Bowl champs.

The Eagles defense was expected to be a dominant unit. They have been a bit erratic, but the numbers might be better than you think. They are up to 7th in yards allowed and 12th in points allowed. While not off to an ideal start, they are playing better than some realize.

The two big themes for the young season are wild games and key injuries. It is crazy to see all the players going down around the league. The worst part of being a football fan is seeing players get hurt. The Eagles have been lucky to have only had minor issues to this point. Injuries are always the ultimate X-factor in sports. The Eagles being relatively healthy could prove to be key if that luck holds up.

If the Eagles win tonight, they’ll be 3-0. That would give them a 2-game lead over Dallas and Washington in the division. The Giants are 2-1, but have not looked good since Jaxson Dart got hurt. The Rams and Packers are both 1-2. The Bucs are 0-3. A loss tonight would leave the Bears at 1-2. This really is a big game for them and the Eagles.

We found out on Sunday that Case Keenum will get the start for Chicago. #2 QB Tyson Bagent did clear concussion protocol. Coach Ben Johnson is a strong believer in his QBs having a full week of practice. Keenum was there all week so he’ll get the start and Bagent will be his backup.

A couple of Eagles notes.

Adding Greenard to the mix against Bears OTs who aren’t great at pass pro is good timing. He will be rusty, but will have a chance to make an impact in the game. It probably also helps that he won’t be chasing Caleb Williams all over the field.

Don’t expect Ertz to be great, but he should be able to help the Eagles move the chains a time or two.

We will officially find out who is elevated today at 4pm.

Some thought from around the league.

Dallas lost in brutal fashion on Sunday. They mismanaged the end of the game and gave Baltimore a chance. And the Ravens took advantage of it.

The Dallas defense got a lot of hype in the offseason. reality hasn’t been kind to them. They are 30th in yards allowed and 25th in points allowed. They are now dealing with a lot of injuries in the secondary so things may be rough for a bit.

The Chargers had 5 takeaways on Sunday and still lost the game.  They are now 0-3.

Is that a cursed franchise?

Some considered the Texans to be the best team in the AFC. I had real questions about their OL being fixed. Houston lost on Sunday to drop to 0-3. Brutal. Does that take them out of the playoff race?

Their defense was supposed to be the best in the league. Some thought it might be the best since the 2000 Ravens. They are 15th in yards allowed and 19th in points allowed. Yikes. Old friend Reed Blankenship finally got going on Sunday. He had an INT and a PD. Houston’s OL remains a problem and the defense has allowed two teams to drive for winning scores at the end of the game. Not the start they wanted.

The Rams fell to 1-2 with Sunday night’s loss in Denver. They had to deal with a questionable (or awful) call at the end of the game. The offseason hype was out of control, with more than a few people talking about them going undefeated. Their 1-2 start isn’t good, but the losses were to Super Bowl contenders. They also happened in Australia and Denver, challenging places to play. And the Rams are dealing with injuries. They face the Eagles and Bills the next two weeks. It will be interesting to see where they stand at the end of that stretch.
