Windy City Heat

The Eagles played their toughest opponent of the year on Monday night and it showed. The Eagles were able to get away with playing sloppy football against the Commanders and Titans. The Bears made them pay. Chicago won 27-7 and totally out-coached and out-played the Birds. It was ugly.

Chicago started their third string QB in Case Keenum. The Eagles made him look like a guy who should be starting. Keenum moved the Bears up and down the field. He threw for 2 TDs and ran for another. He was smart and accurate. He ran that offense with a true level of expertise. Impressive showing by Keenum and the Bears coaching staff. They had a great gameplan and executed it at a high level.

Vic Fangio is a brilliant defensive coach, but either he doesn’t have the right players or he didn’t have the right plan. Chicago’s offense had open receivers way too often on Monday night. Keenum wasn’t sacked and the Eagles were only credited with 3 QB hits. This defense has been disappointing in all three games so far. This was the first game where you can argue that they were flat out bad.

Jalen Hurts looked terrific last week and got us all excited. He stunk up the joint on MNF. He missed some easy throws. He didn’t look comfortable in the pocket. He made some bad reads and forced the ball into coverage. Discouraging performance. Sean Mannion did a solid job in the first half, but then made some awful calls in the second half. You can see the huge gap between a guru like Ben Johnson and a noob like Mannion.

Nick Sirianni didn’t have a great performance either. He made some questionable decisions.

This was a really bad showing by everyone involved. The Eagles are going to get a ton of scrutiny after losing to Keenum by 20 points and looking so sloppy. They deserve all the criticism they get. Sirianni loves to preach the importance of fundamentals. That makes it all the more frustrating when the team doesn’t tackle well and blocking is a major issue. The skill players block like this is flag football. And this is not a smart team at all so far this season. That compounds the poor execution and leads to bad football.

I’ll have more to say about the team in general. I want to gather my thoughts so I can say something rather than just being reactionary. I mean my thought right now is to fire all the coaches and trade all the players. Or just banish them to Siberia so they will quit ruining my Sundays and Mondays. This team has not been fun at all. That’s not good for my mental health. Eagles games are supposed to be the highlight of my week. They seem more like a chore than pleasure at the moment.

You understand every team is going to lose games. But you prefer that to be because the other team is so good rather than your guys making a ton of mistakes. Three turnovers. Two sacks allowed. 10 penalties, with several being costly. Missed tackles. Sloppy blocking. Bad play-calls, on offense and defense. Just a long, crappy night.
