The Turning Point?
Posted October 23rd, 2026 | No Comments »You never want to make too much of one game. The NFL season is made up of 17 games and it is absolutely a marathon, not a sprint. But Monday night’s showdown with Dallas feels like it could be a turning point for the season. No matter how the game turns out, it should help bring a bit of clarity to things.
A win would end the Eagles 4-game losing streak. It would make them 3-4 and keep them near the top of the division. They would be 2-0 in division games and would have the advantage over Dallas, who is probably the most dangerous NFC East team right now. Maybe most important of all, a win would give the team a sense of hope after a challenging few weeks, on and off the field.
A loss would extend the losing streak and drop the Eagles to 2-5. It would likely make the organization think more aggressively about being sellers at the trade deadline.
This is a game the Eagles can win. Dallas has a flawed defense and their offense has been disappointing in the past two weeks, scoring a total of just 29 points. The disastrous Eagles offense put up 31 points over the past two games. That should give you an idea of how weird things have been for the Cowboys. They can’t point to injuries, just sloppy play.
Dallas has lost two games in a row and 3 of their past 4. I’m not sure if the Eagles are getting them at a good time or not. The Cowboys aren’t playing well, but that could change in an instant. They were 4-5-1 a year ago when facing the Eagles and then played one of their best games of the season. This is a rivalry game and that can bring out the best in a team, even one that is struggling.
The Eagles really battled the Rams and Jags. Of course they had Jalen Hurts for those games. The effort was good last week, but the sloppy play was too much for Tanner McKee to overcome. It will be interesting to see how the Eagles play this week. McKee shook the rust off last Sunday and will have a full week of practice to get ready. It seems like Drew Kendall will be back at center and Saquon Barkley will be retuning to action. Landon Dickerson practiced with the starting OL on Friday and that could be a sign that he’ll be back on the field as well.
Not all the news is so good. DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, and Dallas Goedert all missed practice on Thursday and Friday. That would be a major blow to an already struggling passing game if they can’t go.
Dallas has some key advantages and would seem to be the team to bet on in this game. At the same time, I can easily see the Eagles winning just to drag out the season and keep the hopes alive to torture the fans just a bit more.

The Eagles released TE E.J. Jenkins. That gives them a few open roster spots. We’ll if they are bringing guys back from IR (Dickerson, Grant Calcaterra). They could add Zach Ertz to the roster. Or maybe they have someone else in mind. We should find out soon enough.

I’ve seen some national reporters speculating about Joe Milton becoming the starting QB. Never say never, I guess, but this would really surprise me. Tanner McKee is in his fourth season with the team. I don’t thin Nick Sirianni will give up on him unless he struggles so badly that a change has to be made. Milton has never started an NFL game and has only thrown 53 career passes. He is physically gifted. I just think the coaches will give McKee every chance to show what he can do.

The Eagles did make one move.
New #Eagles PS OL Evan Neal, once the No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. https://t.co/yAcrrzqDjr

Neal is big at 6-7, 350. He struggled during his time with the Giants. The Eagles will see if they can salvage him.
