Game Preview – Giants

Michael Vick is back at QB. We know that will mean an improvement on the QB play we saw last week, which was awful. I’m curious to see if the 2 weeks off will have any affect on Vick’s game. Did watching Foles run the offense open Vick’s eyes in some way? Probably not, but you never know.

I wrote my preview for PE.com.

Could this be a good week for the defense? They’re getting better each week and the Giants don’t exactly have a juggernaut offense right now. The Eagles gave up 383 yards and 21 points a few weeks back. I’d love to see the Giants held under 350 yards and 20 points this time out.

I’m predicting that this is the week Trent Cole finally gets a sack. Or 2.

The Eagles built up a 19-7 lead in the first game and then let the Giants right back in the game. I’d love to see the team get another lead today and keep it.

And of course…let’s get a home win.

The new Wulf’s Den is out and is must-read material, as always.

Bo Wulf starts off with some excellent info on the Eagles preventing big pass plays. That is a focal point for Bill Davis and the defense has done a terrific job of that so far.

Then Bo gets to the important info…finding out some good Halloween stories from Eagles players. You’ll like Earl Wolff’s favorite costume memory.

I haven’t worn a Halloween costume since I was little, but my best was probably my Wolverine costume. I loved X-Men. Like I loved X-Men, and Wolverine was always my favorite. It’s so ironic because, you know, Brian Dawkins.

We now know how to test potential Safety draft picks. Find out if they love Wolverine or not.

Finally, Bo did a funny interview with Roc Carmichael. Is he related to Harold Carmichael? Prepare to be confused.

Great stuff.

As a follow-up to the costume stuff, here’s more on Vinny Curry.

Woooooooooooooo!!!

Does that make you feel good about the game?

    Keys for the Eagles D:
Take advantage of 5 below average or worse starters on the Giants O-line.
    Limit YAC (i.e. TACKLE!)
Keep Cruz and Randle in front of the safeties.

WOW at the Wulf’s den article. Great link. The Xs and Os stuff on the D was good, but the costume stuff was telling.
Geathers as a mummy……….. classic considering that he moves at about that speed.
Kendricks as a Power Ranger – LAME, much like any cartoon / toy for kids of that generation.
Allen as Kimbo Slice – typical. Great against lower competition, gets knocked out trying to play with the big boys!
    On a positive note:
If Curry gets a big sack and screams “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” and starts styling and profiling over Eli’s corpse, I might start building a shrine to Curry.

    Eagles inactives:

QB Foles, S Chung, RB Tucker, LB Knott, T Tobin, T Kelly and DE Square

    Polk is back! Nice!

So Acho active over Knott already?

  7. 7 Corry said at 12:01 PM on October 27th, 2013:

I think Knott’s inactivity is injury related. Not sure though.

  8. 8 Jack Waggoner said at 12:51 PM on October 27th, 2013:

    I think it is

  9. 9 GEAGLE said at 12:54 PM on October 27th, 2013:

    Correct

Wasn’t Chung probable? Maybe they just like Wolff better at this point. Would be okay by me.

  11. 11 GEAGLE said at 1:01 PM on October 27th, 2013:

That’s not the case…Chung would still be active as a backup Nickle CB, and ST contributor.

  12. 12 Isaac said at 11:53 AM on October 27th, 2013:

If Cole gets shut out again on sacks, when does Kelly put Graham in more than Cole? I get that Graham’s worse than Cole in coverage, and that’s saying something. But c’mon. Give the kid a chance already.

  13. 13 Neil said at 11:54 AM on October 27th, 2013:

Graham is probably not doing something in practice. Sacks aren’t important. It’s what you do play in and play out. Cole hasn’t been bad; he’s sometimes disruptive and a great run defender.

  14. 14 Isaac said at 12:05 PM on October 27th, 2013:

The Eagles are playing a 3-4. I thought that meant that the OLBs are the guys who’re supposed to get sacks or at least effective pressures. Cole’s not. So give Graham a chance.

As for practice, I guess Graham can’t cover a parked car.

  15. 15 Neil said at 12:14 PM on October 27th, 2013:

Yeah, coverage and probably discipline in things like passrush lanes. Cole has some pressures, but he certainly hasn’t been changing games. Graham’s a really dubious fit for OLB, though. I’d love to see him too, but I don’t feel optimistic we have something in him.

  16. 16 GEAGLE said at 1:05 PM on October 27th, 2013:

If Trent isn’t going to get sacks, then he needs to have a lights out overall game like he had last week…it’s infuriating to me to see the way Graham is being treated…at the very least, Cole and Graham should be on a 50-50 time share….Graham has a fraction of the snaps that Cole has been given, yet Graham has been able to get to a QB, Trent hasn’t….if Graham isn’t going to be given a chance to prove he is the answer, then we have to take advantage of a special draft for OLBs and make a round 1 commitment….an OLB who can rush the passer is the MOST VALUED position in a 3-4…need a player that can notch double digit sacks…if Cole doesn’t get ATleast 8 sacks, then it’s not good enough regardless what he does against the run…simple as that

  17. 17 Neil said at 1:19 PM on October 27th, 2013:

We don’t know what the coaches see in practice. It’s possible the coaches are wrong, but they don’t think Graham is going to come in and have a positive impact relative to Cole. I want to see what Graham can do for sure as much as any fan, but I respect their judgement and opinion.

  18. 18 Corry said at 12:08 PM on October 27th, 2013:

I don’t care how they do it, just win a damn home game. PLEASE!

  19. 19 P_P_K said at 12:17 PM on October 27th, 2013:

    Yes!

  20. 20 Jack Waggoner said at 12:46 PM on October 27th, 2013:

“Tammy’s Torn ACL” appears to have abandoned his FF team… if not, set your lineup, you’ve got 2 guys in your line up on byes and 1 out on injured reserve

  21. 21 Homer Frizzell said at 12:52 PM on October 27th, 2013:

    Yikes.

  22. 22 GEAGLE said at 12:53 PM on October 27th, 2013:

I’m predicting the Eagles have the best defensive showing of the year and will force ATleast 2 TOs…so if our offense and ST play a clean game and don’t lay the bal on the ground, then we win this game!!!
    ..
Giants coverage units already have given up 3 PUnt returns for TDs in 7 games. it’s friggin INEXCUSABLE to not see Desean back there trying to take advantage of a poor coverage unit!!!..
    ..
Wolff made his bones against Cruz a few weeks back,,,He will have the confidence required in this match up to take that next step and ball out today!!
Hungry like a Wolff and Boykin the “BOY king” should have a big game

  23. 23 OregonDucker said at 12:55 PM on October 27th, 2013:

I agree GEagle – a BIG day for the D. But I fear Vick is out in the first half, so the rookie will have to show up.

  24. 24 GEAGLE said at 12:59 PM on October 27th, 2013:

We share the same concern my friend..don’t feel very confident about him making it thru the game…if Vick is to exit the game, hopefully we have a lead and have established the run game..

Everytime we have committed to running the ball against the midgets, shady slays them late in the game and breaks off big runs….if we can get shady going early and punish their defense in the first half, then they are in major trouble in the he second half, especially if we are playing with a lead

  25. 25 OregonDucker said at 1:06 PM on October 27th, 2013:

3 and out baby. D showed up!

  26. 26 SteveH said at 12:53 PM on October 27th, 2013:

I feel like this one is going to play out a lot like the last one. Gonna be a back and forth affair, hopefully it ends with the same result too :).

  30. 30 BobSmith77 said at 1:03 PM on October 27th, 2013:

I want to know if the Eagles can keep Cruz in check again. They did in the first matchup with a lot of double coverage which left Nicks in one-on-one most of the day where he really took advantage.

Given how porous and crummy this pass defense is for the Eagles, they have to pick their poison and basically decide to try to stop Cruz again or stop Nicks. One of these guys is going to have a huge day I bet (~125-150 yds receiving, 1 TD).
