Senior Bowl Update

I’ll post practice notes later on. For now, some quick, simple stuff.

The Eagles talked to:

OLB Jeremiah Attaochu
CB Aaron Colvin
ILB Christian Jones
DL Deandre Coleman
DE Brent Urban
ILB Lamin Barrow
CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste
ILB Chris Borland
CB Dontae Johnon
S Ahmad Dixon

The players were meeting with coaches and scouts.

The Eagles were active and aggressive. They also talked to players at night back at the team hotel. Those interviews can be very important. That’s where they really sit down and talk to a guy and get an in-depth feel for him. The meetings on the practice field are quick chats. They can give you an idea of who the Eagles are interested in.

Get ready to hear about DE Brent Urban and ILB Christian Jones a lot. I liked both players coming into today. Seeing the Eagles show interest in them makes sense because of their size and the positions they play. I’ll write about them later tonight.

Offensive coaches were there. Duce Staley and Pat Shurmur were both taking in the action, but we didn’t see them talking to players. I’m sure all the guys were around, but I only want to share what I know for a fact.

No update on the search for a QB coach. It is possible that Chip Kelly will meet with some people down here to talk about the job.

Per Jeff McLane, Mike Dawson has been promoted from Def Quality Control Coach to Asst DL Coach. Quality control is a lot of scouting work and analysis. You don’t actually coach players. Dawson will now get to work with Coach Azz and the DL/pass rushers.

I know a certain guy on the roster bubble who must be sweating to see these five offensive line prospects line up at the Senior Bowl…

Oh great. I hope Yellow Trashcan doesn’t cause a distraction in camp when his agent demands a trade.

I’m surprised that we even talked to Borland. He just doesn’t seem to be the “big guy” that we want. Might be curiosity though.

Of course, they have to talk to Attaochu. Howie gets his info here first. Dontae Johnson is another big DB. Wouldn’t Christian Jones need to bulk up for the 3-4? I would like to see him at 245-250lb at the combine. Barrow’s measurement disappointed me, a lot lighter than he looked.

No word on my man DaQuan Jones? He measured ok according to the report on BGN.

Was hoping the iggles would be interested in Deone Bucannon

Very much could be. Just didn’t see them talking to him.

Request for keeping your eyes on closely:
    Kenny Ladler: (my 2014 man-crush)
    Attaochu: (obviously)
    Keith McGill: (specifically ball skills)
Herron: (seems like a speedy little fella running in the 4.3’s)

Dontae Johnson really caught my eye today. I know he got beat on a pattern before the end of the drill, but he is big and physical, and someone I want to see more of.

I know it’s just “talking”, but I don’t like that they are talking to Chris Borland. I really think he reached his peak at the college level…I don’t see him offering much. He is slow, short, and very sluggish in his footwork.

Wow. The Nigerian atta-boy came in 12 lbs stronger/heavier then what he was listed at. Love that. Nice size and length for an edge rusher. Ashame he won’t last to 54 after he wows the combine.
