Game Preview

We know the inactives and there is one bit of bad news. Darren Sproles will not play today. Chris Polk will take his place as the backup RB. Jeremy Maclin is set to be the PR.

There is some good news. ILB Mychael Kendricks is active. You would assume that means he will start. His return should provide a nice boost for the defense, which is coming off their best game of the year.

As for the rest of the inactives…

QB Matt Barkley
RB Darren Sproles
WR Brad Smith
OL Jason Kelce
DL Taylor Hart
DB Jaylen Watkins

One more interesting note. Julian Vandervelde is active for the first time this year. He’ll be the backup C.

Back to Sproles for a second. I think the offense will be fine without him. Polk is a quality runner and good fit for the offense. He also has ability as a receiver. I’m excited to see him play. I do think losing Sproles at PR could hurt. Maclin has never shown return ability in the NFL. He’s playing more aggressively as a receiver this year. Maybe that will translate to the return game as well. Just don’t count on it.

I feel good about today.

ESPN was heaping praise on the Cardinals. The PHI/ARZ game segment was all about the Cards and how they are winners. There was praise for their defense. And Bruce Arians. And Carson Palmer. Little to nothing was said about the Eagles. Most of the guys picked Arizona to win.

This is just the way I like it. Let the attention be on the other team.

    I like Foles under center, hope we do more of it.

    Nice to see the birds back in action after that euphoric beatdown. Feels like an eternity since they last played.

    Interesting MSII is still active along with Acho and C. Mathews. Curious to see his role, I wonder if he earned some trust or if they are worried about Kendrick’s health. I am still hoping Watkins can make some progress. Does anyone know if he could be worth trying at Safety since he played some in college?

    Who gets activated ahead of MS3? Everyone except Barkley is injured. Hart is limited on ST’s.

    Barkley? I kid I kid… That is a good point, but I thought Watkins had a few plays on ST’s as well. It sounds like Kendrick’s may be somewhat limited (working with the second team in warm ups) so my question is probably answered.

    I was wrong about Kevlin Benjamin. Has shown way better hands in the pros than he did in college. Looks like a stud.

    Regarding his hands, he’s actually had a lot of drops this year. Has made some nice catches, but has more than his share of drops.
