Bad Day

Brutal loss.

The Eagles had everything going right. And then they missed a FG. The rest of the game was a slopfest.

Ugh.

This drops the team back to 4-5, in a tie with the Skins. Sam Bradford is hurt, but we don’t know how badly. Ryan Mathews has a concussion. And Mark Sanchez still likes to throw killer INTs.

Great 1st quarter, but terrible after that.

Crappy, crappy, crappy day. So much at stake and the Eagles blew it. They’re right back to scrambling for their playoff lives for the next month, if not the rest of the season.

*****

This is going to be a long week. Please keep things civil in the comments section. We’re all a bit on edge. No reason to be over the top.

  15. 15 Cafone said at 4:28 PM on November 15th, 2015:

I don’t see how you can blame that INT on Sanchez unless your logic is he should have known Miles Austin sucks and would let the ball sail right past him.

  16. 16 808 Eagle said at 4:30 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Miles Austin was a big letdown today. The TD catch was not that difficult to keep the second foot in bounds.

    Exactly…

  18. 18 livingonapear said at 4:31 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Agreed. Not the best decision by Sanchez, but not one that should have resulted in an int.

  19. 19 McNabbulousness said at 4:42 PM on November 15th, 2015:

by the same logic he should have thrown it to j matthews and it was j matthews fault for getting blown up.

situational awareness: don’t throw the ball into a situation where your best receiver could have his season ended by a hit.

situational awareness: don’t throw the ball to your shittiest WR that is also triple covered.

  20. 20 808 Eagle said at 4:46 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Sanchez’s ball does tend to float and stay in the air a long time. In previous games, I thought Bradford also threw the ball to his receivers in positions where they could/would get blown up. The big difference is that there is more zip in Bradford’s ball.

  21. 21 McNabbulousness said at 4:49 PM on November 15th, 2015:

also sanchez has better footwork/timing than bradford. bradford looks jittery as hell in the pocket.

  22. 22 Buge Halls said at 6:10 PM on November 15th, 2015:

If by “better footwork” you mean stepping on the running backs’ feet repeatedly, you’re correct.

  23. 23 McNabbulousness said at 6:13 PM on November 15th, 2015:

haha nice. i guess i meant better pocket presence. bradford looks lost in the pocket. either he feels pressure that isn’t there or he waits too long and gets hit/sacked. he doesn’t look confident/comfortable most of the time and it translates into poor decision making and/or inaccurate throws.

  24. 24 Buge Halls said at 6:27 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Agreed – after nine games now, Bradford still looks gun shy and afraid to take a hit. Some times he looks downright crazed in there!

  26. 26 Mark F said at 12:08 PM on November 16th, 2015:

  27. 27 bonersandwiches-mm mm good said at 11:18 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Few times Murray just tripped by himself. One time they blamed Sanchez and their feet didn’t touch. Def needs work though cause it was happening.

  28. 28 Mark F said at 12:08 PM on November 16th, 2015:

What’s with Eagles players always tripping over themsleves?? Been happening since the Reid era must be the fake turf.

  29. 29 808 Eagle said at 4:29 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Not much positives from this game. A loss is a loss. I liked the pace when Sanchez entered, but I think the pace makes him wreckless in the red zone.

  30. 30 Will:↑↑↓↓←→←→BA said at 4:30 PM on November 15th, 2015:

    Austin should be cut today….

  31. 31 Mr. Magee said at 9:42 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Followed immediately by an inquisition to determine why he was hired and at what pay grade.

  32. 32 anon said at 1:19 AM on November 16th, 2015:

he was hired b/c he caught a lot of first downs and we needed a vet presence. he’s been as decent as any other wr.

  33. 33 808 Eagle said at 4:34 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Suh was a monster today. Kelce was not so good. I keep hearing about how athletic he is and how he is a top 5 center, but I’m not seeing it this season. Too many penalties today and that high snap.

  34. 34 Erik Richardson said at 4:38 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Kelce has been a huge disappointment. He’s also very undersized in terms of traditional Centers. He can’t handle a player like Suh, or Knighton. Those 300+ pound DT’s. The false starts, the poor snaps, the holding. He’s really regressed.

  35. 35 kimsarah said at 12:41 AM on November 16th, 2015:

Maybe Kelce has a problem with the quarterbacks.

  36. 36 Joe Minx said at 4:41 PM on November 15th, 2015:

He’s been awful, at least as far as snapping the ball.

  37. 37 laeagle said at 6:26 PM on November 15th, 2015:

That’s a bad matchup for Kelce. Not making excuses, but certain kinds of players can be good in their own way and still have bad matchups against other kinds of players. I think Kelce is really good in one way, but has weaknesses in others. He’s a good player, not a great. Compare to Cox, who is a great player. I can’t think of a certain kind of player who’s a bad matchup for him, because he’s so good in so many ways.

The athletic center who gives up some weight and power for athleticism will always struggle with a DL like Suh. That’s what Kelce is. An athletic center who doesn’t give up weight and power for athleticism is a center version of Jason Peters; in other words, a pretty unique player.

So much of this game is about matchups as opposed to players sucking or not sucking.

  38. 38 Mr. Magee said at 9:44 PM on November 15th, 2015:

I see. Well will just put him on ice (and change chipper’s whole scheme) for games where are center just doesn’t match up well with the opposing D.

  39. 39 laeagle said at 12:21 AM on November 16th, 2015:

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was saying.

    Seriously, grow a freaking brain.

I was pointing out that while Kelce is a good player, he’s not a great player. But of course it makes sense to read that as some sort of “Kool Aid” comment, and make a smart ass reply.

Not really sure what you’re shooting for there, champo.

  40. 40 anon said at 1:18 AM on November 16th, 2015:

he looked like a great player the last two years. maybe it was good having mathis on his side.

  41. 41 laeagle said at 2:06 AM on November 16th, 2015:

Yep, probably true. Probably having anyone semi-competent helped. A decent to good center, which is what Kelce is, is probably going to require good guard play to really shine.

  42. 42 Mr. Magee said at 12:06 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Sorry for the snarkiness, but really it’s just better to accept the fact that he sucks. He’s technically a good scheme fit for Chip’s contrived offense, but who wants a center who can be pushed all over the field? He’s an even bigger liability come playoff time when short yardage success is at a premium.

  43. 43 laeagle said at 1:42 PM on November 16th, 2015:

I disagree that he sucks. He’s a good center. His primary strength is his athleticism which allows for some great downfield blocking. This isn’t something special to Chip’s scheme. It worked in Andy’s as well, and any zone-blocking scheme (of which there are many). Andy drafted him, after all. I think he’s a good player with certain limitations.

Again, a player without those limitations would be considered a great player, and there aren’t that many at the center position.

It all has to do with the matchups, and there are times where you’re just going to get a bad matchup. For example, Malcolm Jenkins is a good safety. He’s certainly not crap by any measure. But he got a bad matchup with Cole Beasley in the Cowboys game. This sort of thing is going to happen at every position, on every team. I think the matchup factor is something that few analysts recognize in the playoffs.

By comparison, Fletcher Cox is a great player, and there aren’t many matchups in which he is at a disadvantage. I think this is probably a good way of defining what separates a good player from a great player: are they susceptible to mismatches?

  44. 44 Media Mike said at 5:13 AM on November 16th, 2015:

Kelce has been putrid all year.

  45. 45 McNabbulousness said at 4:38 PM on November 15th, 2015:

the problems we’re having are by kelly’s design, meaning the way he chose to use the salary cap:
    bradford $
    murray $
    mathews $
    extraneous STers $
    no $ towards Oline depth

this leaves us with a thin unproven OL that only got worst when an aging JP went down. kelly is now reaping what he has sewn.

  46. 46 kajomo said at 4:53 PM on November 15th, 2015:

I think the bigger issue was not drafting OL. Jordon Hicks has been outstanding, but TJ Clemmings would probably help more this year

  47. 47 McNabbulousness said at 4:56 PM on November 15th, 2015:

oh for sure that goes into, i was just more focusing on the distribution of the salary cap angle.

no this also an absolutely huge issue. drafting ZERO Olinemen the last TWO years is ninth ring of hell sin if you’re a football coach

  48. 48 808 Eagle said at 4:56 PM on November 15th, 2015:

I’ll take Hicks over Clemmings any day. But, I do understand your point about drafting OL. I believe if the Eagles had Hicks today, they would have won. Ryans and Alonso just don’t look healthy.

  49. 49 Media Mike said at 5:15 AM on November 16th, 2015:

Could have gone; Clemmings, traded away 4th for Detroit’s 2016 3rd, trade into 5th with 6th and 7th for Hicks, Shepherd in 6th, UDFA Raciti rather than going Hicks, trade, Shepherd, Evans, Raciti.

Why not get both Clemmings and Hicks by playing the draft better?

  50. 50 BobSmith77 said at 4:57 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Bradford gamble was still probably worth it in hindsight especially with how poorly had played. Just having to give up that 2nd round pick smarts.

To me the shaky moves have been investing so much in Maxwell and Murray. Both of these guys continue to undewhelm me especially when you consider their production vs paycheck to date.

Special teams coverage has been generally solid all year and no real issues there. Even with the K injury, special teams have been the most consistent unit among the three this year for the Eagles.

  51. 51 McNabbulousness said at 5:01 PM on November 15th, 2015:

i hear you with regards to bradford, although i’m still bitter about the 2nd rounder going to Stl. yeah man you nailed it, that maxwell contracted sucks out loud too.

  52. 52 808 Eagle said at 5:15 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Yeah. The 2nd rounder was tough to give up. But the way Foles is playing, it looks like a pick was needed to get Bradford. Not a 2nd rounder. A 4th.

  53. 53 McNabbulousness said at 5:26 PM on November 15th, 2015:

hell a 5th/6th could have done it

  54. 54 Mr. Magee said at 9:48 PM on November 15th, 2015:

You can’t consider the Bradford deal without considering the 2nd round pick. Many people prefer to see Bradford and Foles as a swap, and evaluate accordingly, but that’s wishful thinking. We lost a 2nd rounder in the deal, and that made it a bad deal.

  55. 55 anon said at 1:17 AM on November 16th, 2015:

  64. 64 808 Eagle said at 4:53 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Maybe the pace of the game has a negative effect that results in drops. The receivers are tired… Also, when you are not so talented and you spend so much energy trying to get open, you can’t finish the play with a catch.

  65. 65 Buge Halls said at 6:12 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Bradford/Sanchez is Peete/Detmer. Two marginal starting QBs who aren’t simply aren’t good enough to be Top 20 QBs.

Felt that way all season and today didn’t change my opinion at all. If anything, Kelly has probably gotten the most he can out of either one. Scheme only can take you so far especially if you have such underwhelming QB play.

  94. 94 Buge Halls said at 6:15 PM on November 15th, 2015:

X-ray negative, but I bet he’s in the MRI tomorrow or Tuesday (depending on swelling). The real damage could be hiding in a tissue injury.

  95. 95 Dave M. said at 4:56 PM on November 15th, 2015:

This team is what it is – horribly inconsistent, undisciplined and has questionable talent in important areas (e.g., o-line, wr). It has yet to play four quarters of football this entire year and, if you go back to last year, that stretch is even longer. Whether it is coaching or lack of talent (or both), either way it is on Chip Kelly. I keep waiting for something to change, for some more consistency, but it is now week ten and the song remains the same.

  96. 96 Baloophi said at 4:58 PM on November 15th, 2015:

The Song Remains the Same… fantastic song, at least…

  97. 97 BobSmith77 said at 4:59 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Its talent and it starts with the QB play which simply isn’t good enough to overcome some of the other issues. Kelly’s stubbornness plays a part but to me it the scheme or even coaching aren’t the issues even if I still think this defense ends up middle of the pack this year.

To me the real question is can Kelly the GM right some of the mistakes he made this past offseason. I am pretty dubious he can with the biggest issue though being this team doesn’t have a quality starting QB (Top 20) moving ahead forward. Almost a death kneel to an NFL franchise today.

  98. 98 Mr. Magee said at 9:58 PM on November 15th, 2015:

I really thought the playcalling today was shit as well….especially in the running game. Is there anywhere i can find out how many outside vs. inside runs were called? This is a game where Chip needed to get guys on the edge to get this weak ass defense gassed and tired….instead i felt like he kept running it right into the teeth

  104. 104 Joe Minx said at 5:14 PM on November 15th, 2015:

as much as we beat ourselves today i still can get over miami’s last td. barwin’s pass deflection that somehow stayed in the air forever and eventually caught was complete and utter bullshit. do you guys realize that ryan tannehill is acutally credited with a “TD pass” on that play.

  108. 108 808 Eagle said at 5:17 PM on November 15th, 2015:

It’s a mix of bad luck and missed opportunities. When you miss a lot of opportunities consistently though, the problems are deeper, which I suspect is true for the eagles. The bad luck exists in Hicks going down last week. I think Hicks would have made the play on that bs tipped TD catch by Landry.

  113. 113 xeynon said at 5:19 PM on November 15th, 2015:

The Giants have a better chance of getting it together than the Eagles do. And right now, I’d take the DC Grudenlings’ chances over ours as well. If we do get to the playoffs (< 50% chance), we won't even be divisional round roadkill – we'll be wild card round homekill. I repeat, DONE.

  116. 116 xeynon said at 8:34 AM on November 16th, 2015:

I was exaggerating somewhat for effect. But I think it’s safe to say at this point that the Eagles are what they appear to be – an around .500 team that is dumb and inconsistent and has glaring holes at several spots on the roster. They’re not a legitimate playoff caliber team. A legitimate playoff caliber team does not get off to a 16-3 lead over a crappy opponent playing on the road for the third week in a row and which just fired its coach and has nothing to play for, and then blow it.

There is no reason to root for them to sneak into the playoffs at this point, because they have no chance to win anything. None. I’d rather they lose out so we can get a high pick and draft the elite offensive lineman, quarterback, receiver, or pass rusher we need. Going 8-8 and getting throttled by an actual good team in the playoffs holds zero interest for me.

  117. 117 BobSmith77 said at 5:09 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Even 8-8 can still win the East if the Eagles are able to beat the Skins and Giants.

I just don’t see them going 4-3 or better with Sanchez likely starting a couple of games now.

I’ve been waiting out his decisions and gambles but there’s clearly regression since he’s been here. He has made some good choices but right now the bad ones are destroying this team.

  153. 153 Allen3000 said at 5:15 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Just a random stat to illustrate how much our offense has regressed this year…

In Chip’s first year as head coach our offense scored 30 or more points in 8 of 16 regular season games. In 2014, the Eagles offense scored 30 or more points in 9 of 16 regular season games. This year, we have 2 such games.

    Another stat:

In 2013, the Eagles scored less than 24pts just 4 out of 17 total games.
In 2014, the Eagles scored less than 24points in just 4 out of 16 games.
We have scored less than 24 points in 4 of our 9 games so far – and 2 of those games we scored exactly 24 points.

No doubt about it, this offense is holding us back and becoming a serious concern moving forward. We aren’t going to win games if we can’t get consistent OL, QB, and WR play.

  154. 154 BobSmith77 said at 5:15 PM on November 15th, 2015:

The other play that really stood out to me was the Barwin tipped past that Landry fielded like a punt for a TD.

For whatever reason, no one on the Fins’ line decided to block Barwin even they had the T? over to pick him up if necessary. Barwin rushes in uncontested, leaves his feet, and Tannehill still forces the throw.

It gets tipped, ducks straight up into the air end over end, and Landry fields it cleanly because Jenkins had his back completely turned to the play and had no idea had happened or where the ball was at until the last second when Landry leap up to grab it.

  155. 155 Allen3000 said at 5:17 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Total fluke play. Was hoping someone on the Eagles side would have enough sense to tackle him since the ball was obviously tipped. Never happened and I can’t really blame our DBs there. But just a crappy, deflating, fluky play.

  156. 156 BobSmith77 said at 5:19 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Yeah although Jenkins was being matched up more often than I would have liked today in the slot vs Dolphins’ WRs in 1-on-1 man matchups.

I just don’t why Davis schemed that way this week especially with Jenkins likely not at 100%.

  157. 157 808 Eagle said at 5:20 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Also, I don’t understand his love affair with Maragos. Maragos wasn’t so good today with his tackling, coverage, and his punt block wasn’t so good on the blocked punt. The guy blew him up!

  158. 158 McNabbulousness said at 5:17 PM on November 15th, 2015:

when you let a team hang around those random bounces of the ball are going to kill you. a good team puts themselves in a position so that kind of fluke TD “pass” doesn’t hurt them bc they’re already up 21pts.

  159. 159 808 Eagle said at 5:18 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Year 3 of CK and year 1 with his guys. I fully expect Jeff Lurie to honor the 5-year contract with his HC, and I will be very disappointed if he doesn’t. I am not looking at the record, not looking at the score, but trying to appreciate the infinite ways in which the goal of building a winning franchise in the NFL can go sideways. This may not be well received today, but I commend the owner for betting on Kelly, and I love Kelly’s aversion to mediocrity. Risk can burn, and right about now Eagle Nation is on fire. Kelly’s skill at talent evaluation, for me is a mixed bag at this point, but I don’t think we have a prideful, stubborn ego here. If Kelly needs more help than he is getting from Mano, I expect him to get it. If Sam is not the man, I expect the plug to be pulled. I will support the effort to be great and suffer the present not very good with optimism. I will take this any day over repeatedly making the playoffs and getting handled when it really stings. If there is one thing Andy Reid taught me, it is that 19th place = 2nd place. As the great Lombardi intoned, “Winning is the only thing.”

I can stomach it if he’s running through a crowd or had someone on his back at least but there was nobody within ten yards of him! If he catches that he could have easily ran into FG range….that play killed that drive and the momentum because they had picked up a first down already and had the Miami Defense scrambling, hence why Austin was so wide open

no one in their right mind roots for sanchez to enter the game. but if the fans are confused about which QB they want then its just another sign that Chip has this franchise all messed up .. some great players and some very good players ..and nothing to show for it ..but a play every 17 seconds and the fastest 3&outs in the NFL and bad time management skills as is eagles tradition

  209. 209 JoeBlow said at 7:25 PM on November 15th, 2015:

were they really??? On the TV it sounded like they were just cheering Sanchez entering the game and also there was a Miami player hurt walking off as well, so ithought maybe they were cheering him

  210. 210 BobSmith77 said at 7:30 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Jason Kelce: “That was the worst game of my entire career. … That’s about all I have to say.”

Forrest Gump-like after the game and now the 3rd time this year that Kelce has said he has ‘played the worst game of his career.’

Been the single biggest disappointment to me this year given what you expected he can do.

  213. 213 Media Mike said at 8:51 PM on November 15th, 2015:

  217. 217 SteveH said at 7:36 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Holy shit, in a game situation where clock awareness is critical, the Giants actually ran an untimed play, which on the incomplete pass, left the clock at 2:01 instead of the 2 minute warning, which will save the Pats a timeout. The fuck are people doing out there?

  218. 218 SteveH said at 7:39 PM on November 15th, 2015:

  235. 235 ChoTime said at 10:25 PM on November 15th, 2015:

The harsh thing is that if Chip had just tried to make it work with existing talent but adding a few pieces, ie, kept Foles, Mac, Cary, etc., we would probably be in better shape. Even if you believe he successfully upgraded those positions, the chaos from lack of continuity has done us in. The big splash moves have not paid off–yet.

It’s hard for me to comprehend how the Giants lost that game but good job guys you pulled it off, fucking dumbasses. 2 passes to stop the clock late in the 4th and you kick a field goal anyhow, just remarkably shit clock management.

  239. 239 miked718 said at 8:06 PM on November 15th, 2015:

ODBjr dropped the game winner in the end zone. And then that Giants dback couldn’t hold onto that INT to seal it. Cannot give Brady a chance. Pats game is now our Super Bowl.

  240. 240 SteveH said at 8:14 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Why throw it at all there? Hell throw it if you know it will be the 2 minute warning by the time the play is over but why give the Pats an extra timeout? That would have made all the difference in the world. 3 runs and the Pats only have 1:10~ to get into field goal range instead of 1:48.

There were actually a lot of really dumb plays by the Giants in that game. Not as many as us of course but it still faceplam worthy if you’re a NYG fan. My favorite was the gunner running right past Amendola on his long punt return because I guess he thought it was a fair catch? And instead of standing in front of him to make sure, he just ran right by him.

Another funny play was Jayron Hosley T-rex arm flailing at that long ball that Lafell caught. He actually did get a hand on the ball but it was short enough that I almost feel he should have intercepted it.

And of course Dwayne Harris not fighting to stay inbounds on the play that went for 1st and goal at the end. Why the fuck would you willingly run out of bounds there? You don’t need yards stupid you need clock.

  241. 241 Tumtum said at 10:52 PM on November 15th, 2015:

  244. 244 Media Mike said at 8:31 PM on November 15th, 2015:

Cooper has zero catches since October 19th. Curious.

  245. 245 RobNE said at 8:35 PM on November 15th, 2015:

but I don’t understand with Matthews (ok he got hurt), Huff, Ags, Pooper, how does it seem like every game Austin is making some big drop? How does it even come to that?

The dime a dozen WR approach only works if the running game is doing well and the QB is playing well. We can’t seem to get all those working at the same time, for an extended period of time. I kept thinking we were getting closer, but my god after the safety and the TD and the next drive, and when we missed that FG (do you know Gostowski has not missed all year) I was like oh no, oh no, don’t let this happen to us. I’ll go back to church.

  246. 246 Media Mike said at 8:37 PM on November 15th, 2015:

  247. 247 Jernst said at 8:10 AM on November 16th, 2015:

It’s a complete mystery to me as well! I haven’t seen the snap counts yet for this week, but if I remember correctly, he had the most snaps at WR out of anyone last week. That’s just atrocious. I’d so much have rather overpaid Maclin by $1mil and then signed any of the many mid level FA RBs available over DeMarco Murray. I hated that signing from day one. And, 9 games in I’m looking forward to the end of 2016 when we can finally cut him and get out of that terrible contract.

  248. 248 Media Mike said at 8:31 PM on November 15th, 2015:

“This is going to be a long week. Please keep things civil in the comments section. We’re all a bit on edge. No reason to be over the top.”

I’m happy to do so with the POV of everybody else on this board, but I’m out for blood with this team.

The sheer number of mistakes indicates a continued lack of desire/focus to do one’s job properly. This has been the case more than it hasn’t since the Dallas choke down the stretch last year.

I’m especially inflamed at “pro bowl” center Jason Kelce, who had better not hide behind any hidden nagging injuries that require off-season surgery in an attempt to gain sympathy.

On a final note; I’m still 100% committed to seeing Chip Kelly give this another try in 2016.

  265. 265 Fletcher's Cox said at 11:20 AM on November 16th, 2015:

he should be cut w/ Austin to send a message, but it won’t happen; even as a 1st rounder, he has almost no cap hit even on his last year (~$2.5M in 2017) and is more expensive to cut than keep up until that least year.
unless it’s an emergency due to health of players in front of him, I don’t see why MS2 should be active going forward. A light won’t suddenly turn on after “observing” so much real NFL play from the bench. He’s depth and that’s it.

  314. 314 Tumtum said at 10:38 PM on November 15th, 2015:

He is certainly a bit more exciting. Maybe boring is better. Feels like Sam hasn’t had a bad int in a long time. That INT by Mark was inexcusable. The game was over. All he had to do was take care of the ball.

  315. 315 JoeBlow said at 11:05 PM on November 15th, 2015:

yea thought Sam was playing better as of late. The INT was bad, Mark was in no position to force anything, not like they needed the TD to win, i still think Austin could have made a damn play on it….but overall, should not have made the throw

What really hurts is that it was so unnecessary, at THat point, making sure we at least kick an easy FG was #1’Priority.. To make it worse, it was first down, he could have taken a easy 3 yard gain to a wide open Celek, he tries to be a hero and lost us the game… I could see if it was 3rd down and we were down by 4, he takes a shot and throws an INT… But first and goal, down by 1, to throw THAT INT is just rock bottom

I can’t blame Sanchez – The INT was not really his fault – 1) a pass play shouldn’t have been called – all we needed was to keep running and MAYBE settle for a FG, 2) Austin should have caught the pass or at least caught and dropped the ball.

  353. 353 D3FB said at 5:51 AM on November 16th, 2015:

Play call was fine. 2nd and goal from the 9. Run game was rough all second half. We weren’t getting 9 yards, you’re playing TD first with 5 minutes left on the clock.

Bootleg eliminates the possibility of strip sack. Gives the QB a couple of clear options with the ability to tuck it if its there. I have no problem with the thought process or the call.

Sanchez is a vet. He has to know better there. Yes Austin sucked on the play but he has to know better than to force it.

  354. 354 Crus57 said at 10:23 AM on November 16th, 2015:

Yeah, this is my thinking too.

If Sanchez was a rookie or 2nd yr player I would be pleased with the way the offense moved and forgive the INT, but he’s not. And if we were down 2 scores and desperately needed a TD I could forgive throwing a risky pass in the EZ, but we weren’t.

    ..
Stylisticalky speaking Holly was a different type of challenge than anything Ronda had faced, but personally I though Ronda lost the fight at the weigh ins, I wrote about how I was really worried about what I saw. She looked like an emotional mess who was starting to unravel, slurring her wordsmith she didn’t know if she wanted to flip out or breakdown and cry… There were some clues going into this fight that Rondas head may not be right..
    1) Her outspoken mother spent months verbally attacking Rondas head trainer Edmond, about how he is clueless and how ronda needs to get away from him
    2) Rondas new Boyfriend, HW Travis Browne, whos X wife had a lot to say ripping Ronda because Travis was still marries and because Travis allegedly Beat his ex wife and how being with him made Ronda fake for all her anti domestic violence assualt on Maweather
    3) Ronda kept talking about how these girls don’t even understand the pressure of being champ, for the first time it started to weigh on her, and before the fight Ronda announced she would take a long vacation after this
    4) wonder if she felt extra pressure worrying about selling out the first UFC stadium show
    ..
Not Only did Ronda seem like an emotional TRAINWRECK at the weigh ins, but her body looked really sloppy, sloppier than I had ever seen it, then when she rehydrated and we saw her the night of the fight, she looked too top heavy, I was joking and calling her Popeye because her arms were too big and chunky..
    ..
Stylistically holly was a challenge different from anything Ronda had faced, and it’s a bad time to go into a fight with so much turmoil, and when the fight started, all my fears were confirmed because Ronda Clealy lacked the mental toughness she was known for. She looked desperate in that fight from the very beginning…
    ..
Great win for Holly, who comes from one of the best training camps, Greg Jackson and striking coach winklejohn are famous for putting together smart game plans, and they had Holly trained perfectky to take advantage of Rondas holes… Ronda usually beats her opponents mentally before the fight starts, and girls lose their minds, bum rush Ronda and get made to look stupid, Holly on the other hand was a boxing and Kickboxing world champion for Years, mentally she wasn’t going to fold like so many other girls do when they find themselves in the cage with Ronda.. Great performance, im haooy I had the balls to bet on Holly
    .
Ronda will take a long vacation, and I assume an immediate BIG MONEY rematch is in the immediate future… Ronda Clealy needs to listen to her mom, ditch her trainer Edmond Tarverdyan (better boxing trainer than MMa trainer), Ronda needs to stop having special training camps all based around her and Join a real camp, with real pro fighters like Holly HOLMES I training with Greg Jackson, and his stable of killers like Jon Jones who helped Holly a lot in her training for Ronda.

  359. 359 RobNE said at 9:01 AM on November 16th, 2015:

so you are saying she trains like Rocky in Rocky III, and she needs to go with Creed to the old school gym?

I hear you on maybe Rhonda wasn’t right mentally, but I guess I am asking a broader question. I’ve read that look, there are only 100-200 women in MMA or whatever, and Rhonda’s image of the best ever is overblown b/c in fact the first real boxer style she fought, she just wasn’t ready for the speed and skill.

So I’m asking, was Rhonda a lot of hype?

  360. 360 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:22 AM on November 16th, 2015:

No. Ronda is legit…. While Ronda failed miserable against a world class boxer, CLEARLY Ronda wasn’t on her game Saturday night. Would Ronda at her best have beaten Holly? Beats me, I’m sure we will find out in an immediate rematch. After getting Embarressed like that, Im sure we see Ronda at the top of her game next time she faces Holly…. But even if Ronda at her best gets her ass beat again by Holly, it doesn’t take anything away from Ronda. holly is SPECIAL in Her own right, she is basically the Striking version of Ronda, in that she came to the UFC as a highly decorated Champion who has been succeeding in combat sports for a long time.. Even if Holly does that to Ronda again, you won’t find many other woman walking the planet with the Technical world class striking of holly.. Keep in mimd, the last fight Ronda KO’ed Betch Corriera who is also a striker/Hitter like Holly, only difference Holly was light years ahead of Corriera tevhnically speaking… Ronda has had a lot of success against Better strikers, Holly is just a different type of WORLD CLASS striker who mentally, has been in the big championship fights before.
    ..
If they rematch in 6 months, Id still say Ronda would be the favorite going into that fight, she just needs to respect Hollys striking this time, and play to her strengths instead of thinking she has any business striking with Holly… The advantage Ronda has being LIGHTYEARS ahead of all her opponents in grappling, holly has that same advantage in striking,,, fortunately for Ronda, classic Grappler vs Striker usually has gone to the grappler. Next time Ronda will respect Hollys striking, not think she can exchange with her, and work a game plan to close the distance without taking a bunch of damage on her way in, and once you go to the ground with Ronda it’s still her world….you can tell Ronda wasn’t mentally sharp by what happened when the fight went to thr ground, instead of dominating, Ronda rushed, and made some really bonehead, mistakes on the ground, where as usually she is a technical wizard on the ground, she rushed, didn’t secure position, and allowed Holly to get back up… Great Job by Holly, but there are only so many times holly can go to the ground with Ronda without getting herself caught
    ..
Ronda has been too cocky, she stopped fighting To her strength. Started to buy her own hype and go into fights looking to beat her opponents at THEIR strengths, and it worked for her against plenty of girls, but she should have respected Holly more than to think she could beat Holly at her own game.. Word is Ronda trained mostly her boxing for this fight which is stupid. No girl can reach Rondas level of Judo with 6 months of training, so it was hubris on her part to think she could train her hands for 6 months and stand with Holly who was basically the Ronda Rousey of the boxing/kickboxing world… Instead of training to strike against holly next time, I assume she will train to close the distance while minimizing damage she takes on the way in, look to take Holly down, and win on the ground, which is what she should do if she respected her opponent which she failed to do…. Ronda has been doing Judo since a baby, her opponents can’t train for 6 months and reach her level of judo, it was stupid of her to think 6 months of boxing would be able to out strike one of the best female boxers of all time..
    ..
I don’t know what will happen in the rematch, but I do know Ronda is capable of so much more, in so many areas, and when they do fight again, I assume Rinda will be all about trying taje the fight to the ground instead of thinking she could beat holly at her own game
    ..
What’s funny is the loss is crushing to Ronda who was all about her legacy and wanted to retire undefeated.. But Losing to Holly may actually have been better business for Rondas career, had Ronda beat another girl in 30 seconds, eventually the public would get tired of not seeing her tested, but now that she was Knocked out, a rematch with Holly HOLMES becomes a Real BIG MONEY fight, it may even be a bigger fight now than Ronda/Cyborg…

  361. 361 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:34 AM on November 16th, 2015:

Of course this assumes that Ronda can overcome whatever she is dealing with and even get back to that Level of mental toughness…and that’s not a given,.. Some times a loss, makes it impossible to regain your invincibility that you had before the loss..
    ..
If Ronda gets back to what made her so dominant, she will still be favored to beat any girl in the UFC at this time…. But it’s not a given that she comes back strong from this… Especially when she has so much money now that it’s hard to get back the fire and Hunger that made her so spexial..
    ..
But Ronda is legit, she is no Fraud… You won’t find a woman so respected by male fighters that have trained with her… But if Ronda doesn’t show up at the top of her game, she can lose again. No matter how good you are, a very small margin of error in the Cage.. A girl can close here eyes, and swing a lucky punch that cracks her on the jaw and changes the course of the entire fight… So I hope that until she gets her mental strength back and puts her life back in order, she doesn’t take another fight…. Either get back to your elite level, or go make movies, enjoy your bank account and retire,l
    ..
What I don’t want to see is her showing up for a fight looking like that ever again… Get it together or retire…

I actually posted that I was worried she would fail a drug test because of Xanax abuse because of how Horrible her body looked and Behavior was at the weigh ins,
    ..
Rondas mental toughness was a big part of her success, you could easily see the mentally tough Ronda was a mess at Friday’s weigh in, and the way she fought stupid, and fought desperate for the start helps to backüp that claim

Frustrating that after some solid performances in Dallas, certain position groups refuse to BUILD ON IT:
    .
You would think that Dennis Kelly and Lame would be beter now that they get continuity of anothet week of practice to get used to playing LT and RT, but NO, they łet average at best pass rushers hand them their ass all day and Tee Off on our QB..
    ..
Nice that we are giving our interior OL some continuity, yet our pro bowl anchor continues to be a mess this year. I don’t know WTF is wrong with Kelce, but hopefully the iis just a down year that he will recover from. His poor play is inexcusable, I have no words for.. All he keeps talking about is how it’s embarressing, how he is ashamed, how he has to do better, Blah blah blah at this point it’s nothing but Lip service. I don’t know what the answer is but KELCE needs to get it together
    ..
We have seen crappy WR play in philly before, but what mIles Austin did yesterday was rock bottom. how can he be THAT bad? It’s a shame because when Braford Wasnt getting killed, it looked like he was on his way to having a great game.. shame on our OL and Coaches for so inadequately pro ting SAM. People are going to talk ahit about how SAM ALWAYS gets hurt, but it didn’t matter who our QB was, if our OL plays like that, we are going to get any QB we stick back there KILLED…
    ..
The Special Teams unit is so frustreating, and it goes further than just not being able to replace Prosinski… Two times this yeàr we had a punt blocked, and we lost both of those games.. We didn’t lose because of a missed FG, but after Sturgis shanked the kick, it all went down hill from there.. Sturgis is annoying, but in fairness I think Dorenbos had a poor snap on that missed FG
    ..
What a frustrating loss… This is why I get nervous when media Jackasses spend all week treating this like its not only an EASY win, but Goubers like Mosher talking about how anything less than a blowout this week would be unacceptable smh… Such a poor understanding of the NFL..
    .
No one respected this game, everyone talked in terms of “winning the next 3 games” which is foolish and ridiculuos in the NFL, but even more ridicusuous when talking about such an inconsistent eagle team that hasnt been able to get over the hump and get over the .500 mark.. Every time we had a chance to get above 500, we shit the bed….. Worse than the loss is the fact that we failed miserably to protect our QB… At least hopefully now, the people clamoring to bench Bradford for Sanchez put that crap to rest… I can’t believe he threw that INT being too greedy on 1st and goal trying to play the hero. He should have taken the 3yard gain to wide open Celek and used 2nd and 3rd down to get in the ENDZONE… I was really dissapointed in Sanchez this summer when he Failed to show any yeàr two growth in this offense, and yesterday he did what he is known to do, throw turnovers at the end and screw us over..
    ..
I can’t believe how bad we failed to protect SAM. Hopefully he is back in a week or two

    ..
I thought we would beat miami, but it was a little disturbing to hear all our media talk like anything less than a blowout is unacceptable, and the entire week all you heard was talk about THE NEXT 3 GAMES, instead of respecting NFL opponents, and the fact that there is NOTHING we can hang our hat on. We have no identity, there is nothing we can count on to show consistency… WE HAVENT BEEN GOOD ENOUGH or CONSISTENT ENOUGH to disrespect opponents and act like we should beat a team by 30pts
    ..
All week we talked about how we are going to win the next 3 games, treating them like a cakewalk we could overlook…when in reality, at best we have proven that we are a 500 team.. The hope is that we turn the corner imprve each week and go on a run, which is what we all keep waiting for, but we are so inconsistent that we can’t count on anything from one week to the next
    ..
We are lucky that the Patriots won, it’s great to see Dallas lose again, so we still have a safety net, and all our goals are still attainable, but the HOPE this division gives us is WHATS making this feel like Torture

Absolutely horrendous loss – I think it is becoming clear the Eagles are a mediocre team. As BWest said on the post-game show, the margin for error with this team is so small. They have to play really well in all phases to win; if they continue with the turnovers, penalties, poor OL play, bad play calling and other sloppy plays, they will lose consistently. They are just not good enough to overcome the mistakes even with the soft schedule. Now, Bradford is injured and stuck with no upside Sanchez. Scary

We just MUST win this mediocre division. I can’t remember the last time when a division title was served on a silver plate…?!

See the Colts being gifted like the last 37 division titles, often running the table in their division..
    ..
While our division is a joke, at least we play each other tôugh no matter how much we suck… That Colts division is the crappiest I have ever seen… You will NEVER see a team run the tabke in the NFC east, yet a flawed colts team rarely lose division games the past few years

  375. 375 SnatchMaster said at 11:03 AM on November 16th, 2015:

If they win the division do you think they will win the Super Bowl?

  376. 376 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:59 AM on November 16th, 2015:

The Mindfuck of it all is how WIDE OPEN the division and the Confrence is
    ..
carolina is easily the top team today, and while I have started to respect them, I don’t fear them at all, even tho we are so average. Would anyone really fear making the playoffs and having to go to Carolina? Our WRs catch balls and good chance we beat the Panthers a few weeks ago, our defense always plays Cam tôugh
    ..
The Packers are a Joke, I used to take shit for talking about how over rated they arem ae that they have become the new PeYTON Manning Colts, one Super Bowl win, spend the rest of your career choking, and falling short of more titles no matter how great of a world beater you look like in the regular season… coming off two losses, the big bad Packwrs lose at home to Lions where GM has been unbeatable. That team is a mess, fire McCarthy..
    ..
Funny how we acted like it was a forgone conclusion that we would beat Miami, Tampa amd Detroit, now we lost to Miami, Detroit just beat GB at home, and Tampa beat Dallas.. An EASY game in the NFL is so RARE..if we don’t play up to our aBility we will find a way to lose to Detroit and Tampa
    ..
Carfinals are good, but we play them tôugh. Seattle Offense is as big of a mess as us, Falcons and Saints are inconsistent. This confrence is so wide open that its a real shame we refuse to step up and seize control of our season.
    ..
I don’t know if we will ever see the NFCS so wide open, and we are pissing away a tremendous opportunity

Will we EVER BUILD ON A WIN? One step forward fighting to get back to 500. Followed by 1’step backwards..,How the Fuck do we once again for like the 3rd time this year, we find ourselves needing to win a game just to get back to .500?
    ..
Lane and his weekly false start penalties
    .
    KELCE is a fucking mess
    ..
Mikes Austin made.James Thrash look amazing..
    ..
dennis Kelly plays well last week, shits the bed against average edge rushers
    ..
sanchez selfishly trying to play the hero while costing us the game
    ..
ST has been killing us this year. Replacing Brad Smith and Prosinski with Couplin and Tutu has been a FAILER!
    .
I understand why our 2nd round pick with ONLY one year of corner experienve is on the bench, but you can’t fuckin tell me that ROWE can’t play safety as well as Maragos?
    ..
When it was clear that Bradford was gettng Killed, why didn’t we use a TE on each side to help Lane and Dennis?
    ..
Miles Austin was GARBAGE, why the fuck did you keep putting him on the field yesterday? When you see a WR is PLAYING That BAD, why is he in the game? If he isn’t going to help us, take him out of the fucking game, and replace him with a TE who can stay in and help the struggling Tackles.. Yesterday we played 10 vs 11 every time Miles Austin was in the game
    ..
This is why I get furious when we take wins for granted. So much parity, there are no easy wins, and every opponent should be respected.. We are a new team that isn’t good enough yet to just assume we should beat every average team
    ..
How Frustrating,.., now we gotta go into a game against an average opponent and we can’t get excited even if we are lucky enough to beat an average Bucs team, but NOTHING is a bigger kick in the Nuts than having to get ready for the Bucs all week, and NEEDING to win just to get back to 500….
    ..
Thanksgiving is around the corner, and im still talking about trying to get a win to get back to 500? Infuriating….
    ..
Thanks to Tom Brady and the Bucs at least for beating Giants and Tampa

Just my opinion, but this is the 2nd year in a row he has looked bad. He seems to be regressing as time goes on.

If he was willing to part with Foles who regressed in one year, I wouldn’t be surprised by this move.

If he turns it around and figures it out, then he’ll stay. But he’s on a course to lose his job.

  387. 387 Gian GEAGLE said at 2:50 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Not unheard of to see a great player have a down year in the middle of a bunch of good years..
    ..
More likely we add a quality backüp Center/Guard who can play and puts some pressure on KELCE, and not give up on KELCE, but tightening his leash. With us adding a C that we aren’t afraid to play, I could see KELCE get benched next year if he doesn’t produce where as this year we are letting him try to work yhru everything since the only other Center is Josh Andres who we have no confidence in…. This willl probably be the last year KELCE can be giving the entire year to work thru his issues because there is no one else we can put in the game, expecting KELCE to be cut after his first down year with years left on his contract is something I can’t see happening..
    ..
If we finish the year with an 8-8 dissapointment, while most fans/medias will expect a bunch of other changes, I would expect Chip to think that continuity and development is the answer, not anothet offseason filled with change… For example: I know the WRs suck this year, but I hope fans aren’t getting their hopes up because we won’t see a bunch of new #1 and #2 WR’s. Way more likely that continuing to develope our young WRs is the way chip chooses to go. Id be shocked if Huff, Agholar and Jordan weremt our top WR’s going into next year
    ..
FOles ismt a guy chip gave a 17yr extension to.. KELCE not only wont be getting cut, but he is also going to get first crack at the starting spot… Only difference is I assume he increase the Ceter depth to push KELCE, and so that we can put him on a short leash and hold him accountable and bench him when he doesmt play good which we can’t do now because we have no one else.
    ..
I expect another quiet offseason like 2014 when we only added Jenkins, Braman and Maragos

  388. 388 The original AG said at 2:59 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Our best WR is in his 2nd year and they are having growing pains. I’m not as upset with the young players as I am the older ones (Cooper, Austin).

I wouldn’t be surprised if CK has a draft like last year where he just focuses on one area. Last year it seemed it was the defense, this year I think he looks heavily at offense in the draft. Specifically getting some competition for the OL.

I’m officially worried about Kelce. Last year, I felt he was coming off injury, so when he didn’t look good I just chalked it up to recovering from the hernia. This year, he can’t seem to get out of his own way. Penalties, bad snaps, and just flat out missing assignments.

The whole team is making mental mistakes, but I figured the vets would lead the way to help a lot of the young guys. Kelce just doesn’t seem to be able to do it this year.

  389. 389 D3FB said at 5:34 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Kelce’s not going to get straight up replaced. He’s having an off year, but it’s not so bad that he needs to be moved on from. I imagine they’ll look at Pocic and Tuerk in the draft who can both play multiple positions as well as snap. They may also bring in a priority UDFA.

  482. 482 SnatchMaster said at 1:12 PM on November 16th, 2015:

If signing a journeyman with all the roster turonver on this team this last preseason is the best move and I am not even sure it is a good move then those other moves were REALLY bad. REALLY REALLY bad.

  483. 483 b3nz0z said at 1:22 PM on November 16th, 2015:

but were they REALLY REALLY . . . REALLY bad? bradford was a good move, even though some “fans” can’t handle the idea of gradual improvement over the course of a season. mathews was a great move. maclin wasn’t a “move” as we plain got outbid. mccoy was an ok move and i’d love to see evidence that our run game would be better with him than mathews. but let’s get to the meat of the subject – you aren’t sure Thurmond has been a good move? can’t you see why everyone thinks you’re unthinkingly negative?

  484. 484 SnatchMaster said at 1:25 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Bradford was good? Foles is actually playing next week and he is 11 million cheaper and we would still have a second rounder. Bradford was a bad move and I am not sure how you think not. He is bad.

  485. 485 The original AG said at 1:27 PM on November 16th, 2015:

  486. 486 SnatchMaster said at 1:29 PM on November 16th, 2015:

  487. 487 The original AG said at 1:31 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Oh, a concussion and now it’s a bad trade. When McCoy didn’t play for like 4 weeks, does that mean Buffalo got the bad end of that deal? See by your logic that means it was a bad deal.

    Thanks for contradicting yourself bud.

  488. 488 SnatchMaster said at 1:32 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Lesean Mccoy – 528 yards rushing

    Murray – 451 yards rushing

    Nope not according to ESPN.

  502. 502 The original AG said at 1:51 PM on November 16th, 2015:

You said Mccoy is better than Murray and Mathews combined. I was on ESPN’s site and it supports the same data I gave you.

  503. 503 The original AG said at 1:54 PM on November 16th, 2015:

You’re changing the goal posts again. First, McCoy is better than both Murray and Mathews combined. That didn’t work, so then it was receiving yards and TDs. That didn’t work, now it’s just rushing yards between McCoy and Murray.

I know being wrong is tough, but I guess if you keep changing the argument, you’ll be right eventually.

So yeah, you’re not making any sense. They are 2nd in the league in forcing turnovers. They are around 12th in scoring. They held Miami to under 300 yards total offense.

So I don’t know about you guys but I’m still processing the loss yesterday. I don’t think I’ll have a big lengthy post summarizing my thoughts or anything because frankly that would be too depressing, but I will say this much: I won’t try to say that as a community we need to feel this way or that way about Chip Kelly, but for me personally, I hated when Chip took over personnel and, now more than halfway through the season, I’m still not liking it and feel like his feet should be held to the fire a little bit about it. He wanted absolute control about how to shape the roster and honestly I don’t think he’s done a good job of it.

The question now for me is where do things go from here? Does Chip try to go for roster churn again next year? Does he have enough “Chip guys” on the roster now? How does he fix this moving forward? My guess is he’ll go for more roster churn, which I think is a very unsound strategy for building a team. We’ll see though.

  537. 537 SnatchMaster said at 1:12 PM on November 16th, 2015:

    He will leave for USC.

  538. 538 The original AG said at 1:25 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Before we pile on the CK isn’t doing a good job at GM, lets remember that everyone that left isn’t exactly setting the world on fire on their new teams. Djax was okay last year, but most of his yards came against Fletcher and Williams. It’s better to get rid of someone a year early than a year late.

The defense is much better this year. For the first time since 1992, the offense had 150+ yards rushing in 4 straight games.

The issues this year are not due to his GM moves. Kelce for the 2nd straight year has been not good. Peters is finally starting to break down and now can’t be counted on to help this team.

The only mistake may have been letting Maclin walk, but no one else that has left is really making a difference for this team.

  539. 539 SnatchMaster said at 1:29 PM on November 16th, 2015:

The only bad move was Maclin? Bradford trade was good? Kiko Alonso who has played like 10 snaps this year was a good move? You drink too much koolaide. This team is NOT good whatsoever and these are all Chip guys.

  540. 540 Cafone said at 2:07 PM on November 16th, 2015:

I worry we are only going to see the real effects of Kelly’s GMing down the road when he’s done destroying the excellent salary cap position Howie Roseman left him.

  541. 541 Cafone said at 2:09 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Only mistake was letting Maclin walk? You may not feel that way next offseason when we are speculating about who we could have drafted with the 2nd round pick that went to St Louis for Sam Bradford.

I always thought he got off a bit easily because of what happened with the Penn St program and his son.

He is an opportunistic as any coach I have seen including only staying at Penn St for this 2nd year because he didn’t get a pro head coaching job. While he publicly stating how much he loved Penn St and how he was staying for the 2nd year he was aggressively jockeying for a pro coaching gig.

Now just 2 years in he is now looking at going back to college because he is encountering some difficulty. O’Brien isn’t that much different from a number of other coaches but he just has largely avoided the same criticisms.

Under Armor money has the potential to turn the program into Oregon East.

It’s not a bad job. DMV produces enough talent to be relevant if you just win in your backyard. Low expectations to start. Not sure how the facilities are, but once again Under Armor money. You could essentially take a historically blah program and be a perennial top 10 within 5 years.

  590. 590 Rockedupeaglesfan said at 10:26 PM on November 16th, 2015:

If he wanted to be a college coach he wouldn’t have left PSU. I get that they were hit hard by sanctions, but that is temporary. This is the case of a school that has past ties to a coach or a coach who is from an area, being “linked” to a job. All it really means is the school would love to have the coach, not that the coach actually gives a F. Just like Charlie Strong being “linked” to Miami. Its not as good a job as texas. Recruiting is similar. Facilities are worlds ahead at UT and the Lonestar Network makes UT tons of cash. Not trying to attack you, its just some of these reports are silly.

BOBs an offensive coach and they can’t do anything on offense. The win tonight probably bought him enough good will, but there is a very realistic chance that Chip wins more games in this up and down season than BOB does in his first two years combined.

I guess I personally just don’t rate him as good enough or having done enough for the USC/Texas/top 10 job type openings. I think Miami would be a weird fit.

I don’t know that Mizzou, South Carolina or Va Tech are really that much better jobs.

Pros: Great money, Low expectations to start, recruiting hotbed, build-a-power potential
Cons: Michigan St, Penn St, Ohio St, Michigan are all in your division.

  596. 596 Rockedupeaglesfan said at 11:08 AM on November 17th, 2015:

Yeah I see him as closer to those top jobs than to the Maryland caliber openings. Shoot, he could be an NFL OC before taking a middling college job.

And I do think the S Carolina and Va Tech are better jobs. Just my opinion. Only way MD is more desirable is if you wanted to build a program. Tech has played for national titles and at least SC can say they are in the best conference in the NCAA. MD has nothing but Under Armor money, and that hasn’t produced much to date.

Sanchez really Fucked us yesterday! He owes us one, and it shouldn’t be TOO MUCH to ask the Sanchize to win a game at home against Tampa, and then do what he did on Thanksgiving last year against a Detroit defense that isn’t anything special… chip announced that Bradford will be his starting QB as soon as he is healthy, so Hopefully Sanchez redeems himself, gets us these two wins, with Bradford being ready to go for the Patriots game… Unless we view that as a loss and opt to rest SAM one more week which I doubt… I actually feel more confident that we show up and play well on the road against Undefeated Patriots, Than I trust us to show up and play well at home against Tampa which is pretty Sad… I just trust this team to step up in the face of fear to get blown out, Than I trust us to show up against Teams Everyone says we should beat.
    ..
I was so happy when CSN fired Geoff Mosher, but that Guber is even worse now that he is on the radio. He spent all last week talkingabout how just beating the Dolphins wasn’t good enough and anything short of a big blow out was unacceptable. Heck, this entire city is guilty of abandoning the 1 game at a time method After the dallas game and startng talking about winning the NEXT THREE games as a forgone conclusion.. Shame on us, in reality up to this point as have performed like an 8-8 team, we aren’t good enough to not be excited over wins, and assume we will beat every team without an Impressive record.. If we don’t Treat Every game like its the patriots game we aren’t good enough to overlook teams an win.

I just read that Rotoworld has deemed Nick Foles as the worst qb in the NFL. I guess we traded our train wreck and got their car accident. They got our 2nd round pick, but then signed our old guy to a new contract. How is it possible to have a trade of assets and both parties lose?

  673. 673 SteveH said at 5:02 PM on November 16th, 2015:

St. Louis also had one of the most quarterback unfriendly situations in the NFL, with a terrible pass blocking OL and one of the worst receiving cores in the NFL.

Of course, that was with Andy and he drafted a lot of OL.

Kelce, ypu give him help on Suh and get the guards on him. Then peel off Kelce to take on a Lb. Or zone block.

  677. 677 Gian GEAGLE said at 4:38 PM on November 16th, 2015:

believe me when I say I’m just as frustrated as every eagle fan, but im frustrated for different reason than most.
    .
I actually am still very happy with most of this season’s roster addittions and think most of all our first years Eagles best football is still ahead of them. A kid who is giving us nothing like Huff drives me crazy, but I still think he can become a nice player for us, even first time Eagles exceeding my expectation like Thurmond I think his best days as an eagle are still ahead of us…I’m not Frustratted by the Roster moves, but this is why I was so pissed off that chip chose to rebuild in year 3. I didn’t feel like dealing with these growing pains… Just look at the difference in Eagles and Cardinals, both coaches in year 3, chip decided to overhaul his offense going into this year, while Arians decided to continue to build on what he built his first two years, consequently Cardinals are having their best year of the arians regime, and we are dealing with growing pains opting to take two steps back in hopes we take 5 steps forward.. This is exactly why I was so against Chip rebuilding in year 3, so while this year is driving me crazy like all our fans, im still very high on the rebuilding job chip did this past offseason, I just think it will take more time Til we reap some rewards.
    ..
While most people think this is a mess and we have to add a bunch of new talent. I think it’s more important that we develop the talent we Do have because so many plays are capable of more than we are consistently getting.. I don’t think we will a bunch of new starters, I think It’s more likely we continue to upgrade depth. For Example, while some fans want KELCE replaced, I think it’s more likely that we see chip add a quality backüp center to put pressure on KELCE, and while I expect KELCE to still be given first crack at the starting center spot, upgrading backüp Center with real talent allows us to start holding KELCE accountable and tighten his leash next season to where he will be benched if he doesn’t produce, where as we have no one to bench him for right now…
    ..
Maybe we draft a WR in rounds 4 or 5, but I expect Huff, AGHOLAR and Jordan to go into the season as our Startimg WRs because developing them is more important than replacing them. Why go thru these growing pains with the amd then not develope them? Plenty untapped potential to get out of them
    ..
Assume we draft an OL or two, but not neccessarily start new OL next year
    .
f this season ended today, my expectation would be That more continuity, further building on the new team he put together last year, while upgrading our depth and emphasis on player development is how chip would chose to go about the next Offseasn. I would be very surprised to see another offseason like last year with so many drastic changes, my expectation is more of a quiet offseason like 2014 with only a few changes building on all the 2013 changes. Another quiet offseason like 2014 when we added 1 starter,Malcom Jenkins, and made a few depth additions, Nolan, Maragos and Braman. We will NEVER be the team we want to be making drastic changes every single offseason. just look around the NFL:
Ron Rivera and the Panthers have been building that team for like 5 years
    .
    Brady/Bellicheat together forever..
    ..
marvin Lewis had like 12 years to finally build what they are today
    ..
Aarom Rodgers, McMarthy and an entire roster of homegrown players a few weeks ago were talked about as the road going thru GB.
    ..
last year, after Jason Garrett had 4,5 years with the same QB the Cowboys finally had a winning season
    ..
bruce Arians and the Cardinals have been building for 3 years..
    ..
Steeler/Tomlin/Rothlisberget been building this for years
    ..
The ONLY first yeàr coach wita a top team is kubiac and he Inheritted a top playpff team that had been together for years with a QB who is also an offensive coordinator
    ..
Look at these teams, most are having success building on what we saw last year. We aren’t seeing any of these teams coming off a drastic reshaping of the offense trying to incorporate new QB, new RB, new Guards, young WRs like we are seeing…. And NEEDING to continue to gel, Develope and grow ismt just some excuse for poor play, that also goes for young players we are happy with. For example, young beasts like Bennie and Hifks should be even better next year. First year stud safety WalterThurmond should reach new heights next year after a year of improvement.. A lot of the BAD can improve, Amd a lot of the Good can grow into GREAT… Because chip chose to basically rebuild last year, I have to look at it like we are laying our foundation this year, and we will build on it next year… I doubt chip would make all those changes, quit on them after a year, make a bunch of new changes and have to again go thru the growing pains…
    ..
Expect a quiet offseason, adding to our depth, developing the talemt we have. And hopefully some “Depth” ends up taking starters spot like we saw with jordan Hivks this year.. Still plenty of footballlevt left to play and a lot can happen.. Because I expect a quiet offseasn building on this new foundation chip is laying (going thru these growing pains) , Im hoping we get to see some serious growth and improvement these next 7 games so a quiet offseason will be easier for our fans to understand. if Chip were to rebuild AGAIN, I would want to fire him because I would then think he is clueless.. But with all the changes, I can understand if deep down chip expected this rebuilding year because the team we had was maxed out.. But whether it’s a talented kid who is struggling like AGHOLAR, or a player we are thrilled with like Thurmond or Hicks, continuity IMO will provide us with better players…

  680. 680 Gian GEAGLE said at 6:37 PM on November 16th, 2015:

Fair point, but not one that concerns me because I guess Im in the minority that’s excited about the job Chip THE GM has done this past offseason, and the NEXT Time we have a playoff team to root for, I expect it to be made up of most the players who are already Eagles today. I believe there are a lot of players on this team today that we will see go on to play at a higher level than we have seen so far. I think most of our key additions are capable of more and have a higher ceiling they can still grow into. I liked most of the free agents we added, and he drafted a lot of players I believe in, so for me, I like the job Chip the GM has done, and Im waiting for Chip the coach to do his part and grow into a team that will validate the GM moves.
    ..
I LIKED the majority of the moves, my BEEF was that rebuilding would require growing pains and an initaial step backwards… Surprise surprise welcome to the first half of our season… So if that was my expectation, then Im waiting for Chip the coach to do his part… Unfortunately building takes time, understanding this is why I was so aggrivated my chips decision to rebuild in year 3… But if he didn’t have the power to build how he saw fit in 2013, than how can I complain about ch finally wamting to build with HIS GUYS. So while a year 3 rebuld of the offense frustrates the crap out of me, I understand it, and im happy we did it now instead of wasting more time on a team chip viewed had a limited ceiling,,,since that decision he has added players I like, I believe in, who’s best football I don’t THNK we have seen yet, That’s a job for the coach, not the GM..
    ..
What we saw the first half of this tumultuos season IMO is nothing more than the foundation. the beginning stage of the Chip/Marynowitz led Eagles. We have a lot more player growth and development to do, and we still have more gelling to do..and of course we hope Chip the GM continues to build on it the next two years.. But if you look at the top NFL teams, you won’t find any with a new QB, two new RBs, 3 unproven WRs in their first year and a half, two new Guards, who is now playing with a new LT and backüp RT… You just don’t see Top teams with all those new faces being counted on offense… As if that’s not enough to deal with, we are also dealing with A backüp Kicker which is hard considering the parity and thin margin between winning and losing..
    ..
We need MANY positions to improve, but I think a lot of the improvement will come from players who chip already has on this team. Of course there will be some positions that need to be improved by adding talent..
    .
But players NEEDING to improve isn’t just an excuse for positions that are playing bad. Even many of our successful players I think can reasonably be expected to improve. take Walter Thurmond, the guy has been a godsend, but as great as he has been, no way I believe that we saw the best he is capable while playing his first 6 career games at safety. As awesome as he has been, I assume that with another half season of experience playing Safety, and an offseason training to play safety that we will see an even more improved walter Thurmond… We have a lot of young players with potential that still has to be realized, and we have veterans that can still grow in tbis new scheme, playing with new teammates…
    ..
I’m more pleased with Chip the GM, than I am with Chip the coach at this poïnt in the season, but I do think a coach needs more than 8 games with a new group to be able to expect him to have a top team.
    ..
Coaches like Marvin Lewis, Ron Rivera, Bruce Arians have been building for years towards the success that they Are enjoying this year. I was curious to see how much more chip could build on last years team with another offseason, but he obviously felt that teams season wasn’t high enough, so he rebuild the offense and allocated more assets into building the defense.. Whether you agreed with the year 3 rebuild or not, you do need more than a half of season before you can take a team with so much change and expect to be able to hold It to the top teams that have been meticulously built the past 3 to 5 years…

Hindsight, should have given chip the power sooner in hopes of not wasting two years before deciding to rebuild with his guys.. But now that we are here we need to give Chip the coach some time. Half a season with a brand new offense isn’t enough. You BUILD winners, not assemble winners overnight..
    ..
I was against this, I didn’t feel like going thru the growing pains all over again, and needing to be patient with developing WRs, or free agent players needing to get comfortabke in our schemes,,, but now that we are here, need to be realistic about it.. Amd realistically today we aren’t a good team. We are an 8-8 team, that still lacks consistency.. Can we grow into more and salvage this season? I sure hope so, but to really consistently beat the best, we have a ton of growing to do, And upgrading positions whether it’s by improving players we already have, or adding new personnel…

I don’t disagree. I still like a lot of our pieces. Dumb boneheaded mistakes are why we’ve lost 4 of our games. There’s a lot of talent to be developed, and I still think this is a good team as constructed. I really love the way Sammy B has improved, and I thought he still had room to get better.

Yeah, I am a bit down on Kelce, but you’re right about competition. It’ll def force him to play better. I will never doubt CK, because when he sees a problem he goes out and fixes it. The way I see it, there’s two glaring issues: drops and consistent OL play. Drops aren’t a talent issue. They are going to have to just play through it and figure it out. Though Austin and Cooper I think are liabilities. But that’s a different issue. The OL is maddening. They play a great game vs. Dallas, then crap the bed vs. Miami.

  683. 683 Ark87 said at 5:48 PM on November 16th, 2015:

So it’s been bugging me for a while, but does it bother anyone else that we build this whole offense around YAC, we consistently target receivers 3 yards short of the sticks on 3rd/4th and hope they can get the rest of the way on their own. Also we only throw to uncontested receivers.

So why the big receivers? Sure if you got a gun slinger philosophy you run a big receiver 20-40 yards down field and have them go and get a contested ball for a big play. But that is anathema to what we do. Do dynamic play makers (smaller electric guys) not fit what we do better in the passing game? Ok they need to block so they have to be big. Ok then you need to be willing to use their size in the passing game. Use the catch radius, take risks. Go for the big plays. Way too much finesse in the passing game, and it reeks of fear of turnovers or lack of faith in the QB.

The way we use our passing game just seems incongruent with our personnel.

True. It’s just frustrating. You combine that kind of passing game with a heavy dose of running the ball and…yeesh. Anything less than perfect execution is destined to break down at some point as we dink or dunk down field. Methodically driving down field consistently, chewing up snaps, wearing down the defense, is something only the most dominant of offenses can pull off. We aren’t that. We need to have explosive plays to generate scoring opportunities.

They moved the ball with Sanchez yesterday. Just had a brutal miscue.

They did last year and despite the ‘Bradford has been playing better’ theme since the Boys game I just don’t see a big difference between the two. Sanchez is able to get the ball out faster and make the bootlegs/rollouts a bit more credible to his mobility. Bradford has a better arm on the intermediate routes with a bit more throwing power. Neither are downfield threats nor have a ton of mobility. Bradford’s supposed accuracy hasn’t materialized either this year.

Mathews has been incredibly productive this year and their only option who was effective outside the tackles.
