Practice Squad Almost Set
Posted: September 5th, 2016 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 235 Comments »The Eagles have now filled 9 of the 10 spots on the practice squad.
#Eagles have signed four more players to the practice squad:
LB Don Cherry
LB Quentin Gause
FB Andrew Bonnet
C Aaron Neary— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) September 5, 2016
#Eagles also add five players to their practice squad:
G Darrell Greene
WR Marcus Johnson
RB Byron Marshall
DT Aziz Shittu
WR David Watford— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) September 4, 2016
The final spot is going to be interesting. You would think they would want a QB there. With only 2 on the roster, most teams keep a QB on the PS. But the Eagles also have WR Paul Turner and CB C.J. Smith out there. You do wonder if they both got claimed on waivers so the Eagles made other moves.
Let’s start with the outsiders. Andrew Bonnet was a FB/TE at North Dakota State, playing alongside Carson Wentz. Bonnet is 6-3, 251. He can block, but is also a good receiver. He caught 56 passes for 8 TDs at NDSU. He is a bit bigger than Trey Burton and is a bit better blocker, but has the same kind of overall skill set. He can line up at FB, H-back and TE. He can block or catch passes. He can play on STs. Burton is far and away the better athlete, but Bonnet isn’t a complete stiff.
Nice Brent Celek impression there, huh? Doug Pederson didn’t keep 4 TEs, but having Bonnet on the PS gives the Eagles a player to develop for the future and to help with practice.
Aaron Neary is listed at Center. He played OG in college and with Denver. He is 6-3, 301, which is good size for a C. He started his final 2 years at Eastern Washington and developed into a high level player (had some FCS All-American honors). Neary has some athletic ability, but won’t wow you with his agility. He plays with a real nasty streak, which we know Doug Pederson loves. The Eagles have had interest in Neary for a while. Howie Roseman talked to him on the phone prior to the draft.
Neary was mostly at LG this summer. He was better as a run blocker than pass protector. He does use his hands well, but must get stronger in the lower body so he can anchor better. He shows good awareness and is very good blocking at the second level. You can see why NFL teams think he can play C with that combination of skills.
This is what you call getting to the second level @AA_ronNeary @daronneary @APXstrength @leeannneary72 @roncobroncos pic.twitter.com/43vZSl69LD

Quentin Gause played well this summer for the Eagles on defense and STs. He’s worth developing. Gause always seemed to be in the right spot. You love LBs that are smart and instinctive. He generally tackled well and looked comfortable playing in traffic or out in space.
Cherry had a solid summer. He never really jumped off the screen. There were no wow plays. He played hard and got the job done, but that’s usually not enough to get a spot on the practice squad. The Eagles are trying to see if they can develop him. Cherry didn’t have a full offseason here. The coaches saw enough that they wanted to give him a chance to show what he can do over time. Joe Walker will be rehabbing his ACL injury so Cherry could have a shot to be the backup MLB in the future, but he’s got a long way to go to get to that point.
I covered the first 5 members of the practice squad yesterday.
*****
Doug Pederson said at his PC this morning that the team will add a third QB. He made it sound like the team would look for a young guy to put on the practice squad. We’ll have to wait and see how that goes.
The player I liked, Kevin Hogan, signed elsewhere yesterday. There are not great options right now, but I’m sure the Eagles have a couple of players they are interested in.
Oh yeah…Pederson also casually mentioned that Carson Wentz will start this weekend. Welcome to two days ago, Doug. I’m kidding, DP. We know you had to formally announce it. There weren’t any compelling stories behind the move. Just felt Wentz is ready.
*****
Peter King did an excellent job of breaking down how the Sam Bradford trade happened.
Howie played this situation perfectly. He asked for a high, but fair price. You don’t give away QBs this close to the season. At the same time, Howie didn’t try to gouge the Vikings. Rick Spielman talks in the piece about how some teams were making crazy trade demands. Howie negotiated in a fair, reasonable way and that helped to get the deal done.
_
Surprising that they didn’t leave room for Smith, Turner, and a QB. I’m thinking a guy like Cherry or Johnson gets cut if they make it through waivers.
Feel bad for C.J
Not approving of your avatar mate.
It’s sarcasm.

How do you do an italic photo?
Well boys we did it! We made #31 on the PFT Power Rankings list. How can we not win the division now?
Part of me could care less, and another part makes me wonder how a team with such a solid defense could be ranked that low. I guess PFT has to take all the variables associated with a new coach/system/QB/personnel and drop the Eagles to second from the bottom.
Upward and onward, say I. Fly Eagles, Fly.
PFT is a football gossip site. This list is really just something to laugh at. Literally every single member of the national media is going to be blindsided by the defense this year. Lots of them will say they called it. PFT can’t be among that crowd.
Tumtum —
1 year ago, you went decidedly against the prevailing opinion on this blog and predicted the Eagles would be, at best, a 7-9 or 8-8 team.
What do you project this year?
Before the trade of Sam B I predicted 9-7 and division crown with the caveat that if Ryan Matthews was healthy in the right games we could add one. If he was unhealthy in the wrong games we could lose 1 and probably not win the division.
Now I really would be guessing more than ever. Just for fun I am going to keep the prediction the same and hope for a hell of a fun year I can enjoy with Carson.
If I am right again, I am saying now its just a lucky guess!
Rookie QB.
Without looking they better have the Browns ranked behind us.
Probably the Vikings.
It is the Browns. So that means we probably lose this week, while still winning the division, right ?
Yes something like that.
If PFT seriously looks at SF’s roster and awful head coach and rates them ahead of the Eagles, their opinion is worthless.

The Wentz era begins: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000695354/article/carson-wentz-named-eagles-starting-quarterback
So with the best player on Offense (PT) and one of the better ones on D (CJ Smith / Ed Reynolds) of the pre season most likely not even on our Practice Squad teaches us once beautifully again that pre season performances mean f**** all.
In other news, the world may or may not be flat.
Dunno…. ever drive thru Arizona?
In fairness, Turner did originally make the roster.
never let a rookie fool you April — Billy Martin.
GermanEagle, you’ll be at the game this Sun, right? The crowd is going to go nuts when Wentz takes the field. Bottle it and bring it back to us.
Yes will do bud. I will periscope this historic event.
Pederson said they want to add a 3rd QB. Not sure whether before game or after or whether to active roster or PS. They can snatch a QB off PS and put him on roster so a guy like Kevin Hogan is still in play maybe.. May be waiting until Lane is suspended?
I’m still no fan of Pederson. Doesn’t matter to me. I don’t have to like the coach or pseudo-gm. What I do like(maybe most of all) is the move to get Wentz and the move to start him. (right or wrong) I’m not a fan of “oh we better baby him for 2 to 3 years”. I like throwing caution into the wind and LOVE that he’s starting. I know, I know — Arod sat the bench and now he’s amazing. Problem for me is, how can anybody prove he wouldn’t have been as successful if he was thrown into the fire?(just an example, I know who he backed up)… It’s exciting times. An exciting QB. I liked Bradford. He was “bleh” to watch. Eagles weren’t going anywhere with him.(I know, I know – all 32 teams have a shot blah blah blah). It’s been set up as a transition year and now that train is 100%. I don’t think starting Chase would have accomplished anything. If Wentz is the person we all hope he is, he’ll take his lumps and learn from it(assuming he survives the weekly punishment :)) The future – is now.
I would give alot to see first hand the atmosphere at the Linc this
Sunday… When they brought the rookie in the first game at the end of the half…the buzz was crazy.
not much will compare to this Sunday…
maybe starship 7 game against redskin…
Or opening day of Chip era.
Not even T.O. mania.
First sixers home game when arm kid goes into the game
Heard that one’s nationally televised!
What has the coach done up to this point that would allow us to come to a conclusion on whether we like him or not?
..
Not sure what data we can use to even try and judge Doug up to this point…
Really, the guy’s a blank slate. How can anyone have any opinion on him as a coach?
Andy R has a very high opinion of him.
I think this may be why a lot of Eagles fans are skeptical.
Yeah. Andy had his flaws (which we all know) but he’s a good coach. Came as close as you can to winning the championship against a team with questionable sportsmanship -that’s not shabby.
It’s him as a person. His actual coaching, I may agree with :). I don’t dislike him as much as I dislike Girardi. Giradi, if given the opportunity, I’d probably punch. They both have a way about them I don’t like. I never liked Reids pressers – but as a person(from what little exposure we had), I really respected that man.
harsh, man. I haven’t even watched any of his pressers. Now I almost want to, just to know why what’s wrong with him!
I know, it’s harsh lol. Reports have to ask questions(it’s why they are there) to try to understand why Girardi makes some moves. He always acts like they are wasting his time. His expressions are always “oh, I can’t believe I have to explain this to you idiots again”. Doesn’t matter if we’re idiots. He’s the face of the franchise. Act like it….
Jameis Winston @ Atl or Carson Wentz vs Cle.
Who shall I start (seriously)?!
Wentz. Hear me out here. TB is likely to be more reliant on the ground game. I think they’ll let Wentz air it out. He’ll get plenty of yards. He might throw a pick or 2 but typically in fantasy there’s not that big a penalty for interceptions.
i’m frankly worried about wentz getting clobbered, especially as we roll into the tougher part of the schedule.
The Eagles might do a lot of short passes/screens to RBs and TEs as part of their running game Andy Reid-style and Wentz will pick up points from that. I think they’ll try to minimize the number of shots he takes. Being mobile will help him avoid some hits too.
The game plan against the Browns should go through Wentz and Sproles.
Winston has much better weapons but Atlanta is really tough at home especially in a home opener, go with wentz
Winston. Wentz will be overthrowing receivers all afternoon.
This… not sure about the 2nd part, but don’t ever start a rookie QB in fantasy.
Especially in his first start ever…especially coming from NDSU….especially after missing 75% of the preseason with broken ribs.
Jesus Christ…. 49er fullback Bruce Miller has been arrested for beating up a father(70 years old) and Son…
..
He tried to check into a hotel on Sunday, was told it was booked,so he came back Monday morning and randomly attacked two people in the lobby.. WTF?!?!
..
How bout those Niners? Throw this animal in a cage. Friggin Psycho
He was also arrested for spousal battery last year and plead it down to disorderly conduct. They’ll cut him.
Oh God I hope we won’t pick that trash up. FB and all that…!
Why wouldn’t you want to add a tough Guy like bruce miller? When he isn’t beating up woman, he kicks 70year olds ass… How could you not want that type of toughness on your team?
..
No need to respond
We got our FB. He’s on the practice squad right, now but a few weeks in the incubator, and Carson get’s his FB back. Hback/Celek replacement grooming so we can have Ertz, Burton, and Bonnet for the next few years.
Seriously, if it wasn’t for his character issues, he’s the perfect type of FB/TE hybrid for the Eagles’ offense.
I’d love to hear a reporter ask Chip how he Justifies coaching so much scum after spending 3 years in Philly claiming culture and Charechter was more important than scheme and Talent?
..
He has a QB who spent more time on his social protests than getting ready for the season,.
,,
A Psycho FB/TE who randomly attacks 70 year old men when he isn’t beating on woman
..
A starting OL who doesnt really love playing Football after retiring so early in his career abandoning his team
..
And he is working for a GM who Rivals jerry jones in the amount of scumbags he puts on the roster, with his philosophies on Charechter and Cuture being so important to building a team?
Bath salts or LSD can do that to you.
More cocaine than LSD.
My mistake not LSD, I meant PCP. Cocaine can certainly make you more agitated but PCP is notorius for violence, hallucinations and nystagmus.
Tell me about it! I’ve seen every episode of Quincy.
Lol I hope he isn’t smokng angel dust for breakfast
Niners just cut him..
I find it funny that our prize sell the draft No. 1 pick who the coaching staff was going to bubble wrap and develop the right way is starting week 1 right after coming off a rib injury and not having practiced really with the offense in 3 weeks or the first team offense at all.
That the backup that we picked up and gave more guaranteed cash than sammy dollaz is so bad that we don’t want him out there literally at all.
We didn’t give Chase Daniel more guaranteed money than Bradford.
As far as Wentz goes, developing him the “right way” was code for “we can’t start him until we gain some type of leverage to get picks for Sam”.
Oh my god…you have no idea how nice it is to see people that actually get it. Thank you, and I mean this with all sincerity, for understanding our QB situation. It has been getting crazy seeing some of the stupid comments (not so much on here).
And, this is no put down to you, anon. I thought your post was pretty funny.
Carson Wentz does the boring white QB press conference way better than Nick Foles ever did.
Bodes well for his future IMO.
I was really hoping when they asked him about “confidence” that he’d say “Have you seen Cleveland’s team? You’d be confident too!”
Televised games here on Oahu now are Vikes,Titans and Bengals,Jets. Cant help the Titans game (WAY to many Mariota fans) but now that Wentz starting hoping for a game line-up change.
Have to do the DirecTV. If you live in a condo/apartment or there is no line of sight to put up a dish then Directv can stream you NFL Sunday Ticket.
Some of the streams that were shown during preseason weren’t bad either.
But hey. Who doesn’t like Eggs Benedict (breakfast) during halftime of the first game.
Guinness and nachos at 0700…
Hahaha… Coffee at 7. Bene’s at 830.
Go to the pub in Kailua…decent group of Eagles fans there. They actually had the upstairs part cordoned off as the Eagles Nest the last few years, although I’m not sure they’re doing that anymore.
No idea how ready Wentz is for this opportunity, and I probably prefer Redshirting him for a year over starting him in his first game. but when we have no realistic chance of contending for a Super Bowl, the next best thing is hoping for an entertaining Season.
..
We love This sport because it is entertaining, and after sitting thru last season which was about as fun as getting your teeth pulled, I don’t have it in me to wait months for football season to start, only to be subjected to watching chase Daniel starting week 1. I can’t think of a more demoralizing way to open the season..
..
I do wonder how much the quality of opposition factored into whether or not Wentz was going to start week 1? It’s easy to make a case for waiting til the bye week to turn the team over to Carson, but doing so would be passing up an opportunity to allow the kid to get his feet wet against some of the most manageable defenses on our schedule (Browns, Bears, And Steelers defense probably isn’t anthing special either)
..
It’s probably easier to let him get his first experiece at home against crappy Browns with the entire stadium energized to back him up , then it is to wait after the bye week and make his debut on the road against the lions.
.
Might as well łet him get the jitters out against the Brows, Bears and Steelers, because the next stretch of games will be much tougher for Wentz:
@ Lions
@ skins in first division battle
Home in the Wentz vs. bradford bowl
@ Cowboys in a division War
..
might be wise to let him get 4 games under his belt before he has to enter that stretch of 3 BIG GAMES against two Rivals on the road and the return of Bradford and that scary Vikings defense
..
You can’t ask for a better two opponents to start your career against than the Browns and Bears defenses. Two of the most manageable opponents he will face all yeàr
You still looking to sell your season tickets? 😛
I’m happy they’re going straight to Wentz out of the gate. I just thought he looked more like a professional QB than Chase did, admittedly in very limited snaps. Great job keeping his eyes down the field and that was with the o-line letting rushers get in his face almost every play. O-line hasn’t looked anywhere close to that bad since that game.
Lol NOPE!!
..
I was so scared at the thought of chase starting for a few weeks. THRILLED that they are already leap froggin chase for Wentz
..
I don’t know what would be worse, having to watch Trevor Simein, Case Keenum, or chase Daniel in the openor after waiting months for Football to start
.
Wonder how long the Rams can stick with Keenun, while Wentz and Prescott start week 1? Gotta suck for Rams fans to finally have football in LA, yet be subjected to Keenum in the openor… I wouldnt be surprised if Goeff ends up playing after Keenum stinks up a few series on Sunday
I live in LA. God has been laughably awful. Bunch of anonymous player quotes that he can’t even call a play right half the time – and it’s not like he looked good in the preseason games.
So, try this…
We dont want to be embarrased when Dak starts and beats the ginas. We need to start our higher pick out of ego/preservation. Just a thought.
Must suck to be a LA Ram fan and be subjected to Case Keenum while the #1’pick sits the bench
Remember when Goff was touted as more ready to play and Wentz was a project QB that needed to sit and learn?
I was one of those people that thought Goff was miles ahead of Wentz in the technical skills of being a pro QB. He’s looked pretty garbage in the limited action I’ve seen. And, have you seen Hard Knocks? I honestly have never seen someone with less personality and who was seemingly as dumb and dimwitted as Goff appears to be.
So you’re saying he’s the football version of Ryan Lochte?
If our staff is basing their decision on the starter off of what Dallas is doing, we are in a whole heap of trouble.
This post got passed over with the new thread:
Sit or start? Some very juicy analysis:
“But starting a high draft pick QB as a rookie generally led to a lower passer rating from him and worse win percentage in years 1, 2 and onward as compared to the QBs who are given the chance to develop and learn from the sideline.”
” But overall this tends to show that we are certainly not in the midst of a QB “era” where lots of great prospects are pouring into the NFL, forcing teams to start the less expensive and better option.”
“Also probably unsurprising, the players who were held out and groomed saw their passer rating significantly higher in their first year of action than those who started their rookie season. ”
“With very limited sample sizes, its evident that teams improve their win rate immediately by starting a high draft pick as a rookie. BUT, they don’t become winning teams that first year. They still average sub-.500 records.”
“For quarterbacks drafted in the first round of the draft over the last 4 years, we’ve seen them average their first start before their 4th game (3.7 games).”
“”I think this trend aligns very closely w/ head coach job security”, Joe noted. “Head coaches seem to have less time to develop players so they are playing into that trend by playing younger guys earlier when maybe they should be sitting them for a few more games. There’s a saying to college players coming to the NFL: ‘Everyone just got better except you’.””
” What we see is a downward trend in passer rating with when a QB takes his first start in the NFL.”
http://www.outkickthecoverage.com/when-to-start-your-rookie-quarterback-050715
A corollary to these stats that should not go unsaid: teams that start rookie QBs generally have problems across the board.
A team that has the luxury of sitting a high draft pick is already in a better position.
We did have that luxury until we traded Mr.B. I will say, I think the team surrounding Wentz is far superior to the one that RG3, Andrew Luck, Eli Manning, or Even Peyton Manning had.
I’d say that goes twofold:
1. Worse teams are more likely to throw in a rookie QB in the hopes he can work some magic, turn things around and give the fans a reason to by tickets
and 2. Most QBs that are ‘ready’ to start right away are drafted early enough that they’re going to end up on a bad team almost by default.
Yes. Check this out:
the following 1st / 2nd round-drafted QBs who: a) won over 8 games their rookie season and b) have become consistent starters (5+ starts/yr in yrs 1-3+) for several years:
“1. Ben Roethlisberger
2. Matt Ryan
3. Joe Flacco
4. Andy Dalton
5. Andrew Luck
6. Robert Griffin (as we know, while Griffin qualifies by the outlined terms, he’s gone downhill in a major way since his rookie campaign)
– That’s a VERY short list considering we’re talking 15 years of data.”
Luck had a crappy team, the others were pretty good, IIRC.
Upset about Turner & Smith, especially given history of identifying competent players at both positions. When you find them, you keep them no matter if they’re UDFA or not. Were 11 OL & 6 DE’s necessary? Are Rowe and M. Smith going to be more productive this season?
You would Rather keep Turner and CJ over MS2 and Rowe?
Well it’s currently 3:48 and zero teams can sign either of those two players to a practice squad until they clear waivers. Waivers don’t get cleared till 4 pm. So… you’re jumping the gun a bit.
The Wentz era has started earlier than expected. That being said this is my guess on how productive he’ll be
2800-3500 yards
17-22 TDs
16-25 INTs
300-400 rushing yards
2-5 rushing TDs
Wentz did a press Confrence today. It’s posted on PE
.
Said he was hunting Geese in New Jersey on Sunday when he got the call breaking the news…
..
I can’t find any interviews of playërs giving their thoughts on the news yet
Hunting geese like on a golf course? They seem easy to kill
I made a similar comment on Twitter.
He was lying down in a cornfield.
No BS, I drilled a goose at about MAYBE 30 yards when I skulled a 3wood off the tee. He was not a happy camper, but I am pretty sure he was probably going to be ok. Tough little buggers. If I can hit him with a golf ball though….doesn’t sound that challenging of a hunt.
Lol sounds like an episode of Curb your enthusiasm
My brother did the same. Thing flopped around for a while, but eventually seemed fine.
Obligatory.

I hit one in my Wednesday night golf league a few years ago with a 7 iron and broke its wing, rendering him unable to fly. Damn thing lived through the winter and was there the following summer hanging around the pond at 18 all season. It didn’t make it to season 3 though.
Hunting real geese, Not the golf course semi-domesticated kind.
Wendell Smallwood has been cleared from his concussion, Hopefully he can get thru a game before he suffers his next injury
..
Seems like we will have a full healthy roster week 1 which is never something to be taken for Granted
Now we can cut him for someone else
Is Joe Webb available?!
I beat you to that comment in the previous thread. Where’s shah8?

Apparently what the dumbass did is try to check into one hotel, was told it was overbooked, checked into a 2nd hotel, went out an got drunk or stoned off his ass, then went back to the wrong hotel, and then kicked the ass of a father and son because they were in “his” room.
Having another team’s 1st round pick is like having your cake and eating it too. You can root for your team to win AND hope you get a high draft pick next year!

Okay, people, you can breathe again.
lol
Love Les’ sarcasm.
Tommy mentioned yesterday that he was surprised the Eagles cut Hart to bring in Brooks, but I wonder whether the plan is a little more nuanced than that. Cutting Smith leaves an opening at CB, so maybe they shift Watkins out there and have Brooks take his spot at S.
Haha. PT… So funny after all the freaking out.
TURNERZZZZZZ
I’m actually a little surprised they didn’t want JaCorey Shepherd on the practice squad, after he seemed like a lock to make the team last year, and a position coach that was there at the time. But, maybe he’s not fully recovered yet, or wasn’t the same.
Definitely not fully recovered and it seems like he never will be.
It’s sad.The only acceptable place for him would have been IR again imo.

Paul Turner signed to our practice squad for your sins.
I don’t really get why they protected C.J. Smith on 53 but they didn’t save spot on P.S.
Were they told he was going elsewhere if they released him? Are they going to cut someone on P.S. and sign him? That’s weird too.
They say Wentz is a quick learner, but he also seems like the kind of guy who is going to need to get hit really hard several times before he learns to slide.
Yeah that’s a concern to me too – taming him , but you’ll have that concern no matter when he starts.
He slid every time he ran
edit: Well there was that one time he decided to not slide….lol
No he did not. He was tackled on maybe his last run before he go hurt. Pederson said he should have hurdled defender.
Yea. I edited it. I forgot that one. He ran three times? Slide, OOB and tried picking up a first (the hurdle play)
Is the hurdle play the one where he did a full 360 in the air and almost broke his neck?
Yes.
I’ll forgive him the last one. Was trying to make a play and the corner (or safety) just made an outstanding play. I remember both he and Pederson indicated they thought he had a TD that play.
Pretty sure he slid when running. He seemed a bit reckless in the pocket though, taking shots there when it may not have been really necessary, one of which injured the rib. I’m sure he could absorb D-1AA hits a lot more easily than NFL hits, and he will need to learn that. I’m guessing Chase Daniels will still get some substantial playing time this year.
Reckless in the pocket is referred to as standing tall in the face of the rush if you don’t get hurt.
Seriously, I’ve seen so many articles about him needing to “change the way he plays” with regards to his injury, like he was injured on a scramble.
Reminds me of all the talk about how Chip’s system was going to get his QB’s killed, when every single injury to an Eagles’ QB happened in the pocket (save for Old Man Vick’s hamstring pull).
Yes, he definitely did that. But you want to pick your spots (3rd down), not do it consistently.
Granted, he did say that the slide when he ran may have been his first ever. So he is listening, and is trying to change those habits from college. The fractured rib or whatever it was may end up being a good reminder.

#Eagles are signing CB C.J. Smith to their practice squad, source said.
Okay, their cutting one of the guys signed to the PS. My guess would be Marcus Johnson.

Glad Smith made it. Thought he played very well last couple games.
The 49ers claimed DE Taylor Hart on waivers. Takes the spot that Miller had.
Nobody saw that coming 😉 Other than everybody.
They already have 7 good DL. Hart makes 8th. They planned on putting Garrison Smith on their PS but he was claimed by SEA. So they’ll probably put a TE on the PS again. Can only have so many DL or TEs active on game-day anyway.
What a reunion. They have Armstead, Buckner, and Hart .
I like Oregon, but my most recent vivid memory of them is getting run over by Ohio St. . . . . and San Fran is stockpiling Oregon D-lineman . . .
Barner for Hyde?
Payback for taking Treggs
Hate to admit this, but think SF got the better of that one 😛
Too early to tell. Although I think Hart was a better DT for us than he will be a DE for them.
Hart looked like a legit NFL prospect this year. He’s going back to a 2 gap system where he was unable to stand out which sucks for him.
Treggs, well, I like his highlight reel. Kind of disturbing what the SF and Cal guys both said about him though.
31 other teams passed on Paul Turner. Hmmm
Who didn’t cut someone to make room for him on the 53 men roster. Mmmmmmh….
It was reporyed he had multiple teams interested but chose Philly…not knowing for sure.
Had he been claimed off waivers, he would have gone to the other team. They would have had to sign him to their 53, but he couldn’t have chosen Philly over them then. Heard multiple teams were interested in putting him on their Practice Squad. There he would have a choice.
Note to Tommy, please don’t refer to Doug Pederson as DP. Any other nickname is fine.
“Pedo”?
D Ped ?
If ut was Chip id call his playbook the pedo files .. horrible
..
Btw fwiw Paterno knew for years !!! Kept that pedo from recruiting
DIP … Doug Irvin Pederson?
Carson Wentz Stats vs Browns:
24/37, 311 yards, 3 TDs, 2 Ints
7 rushes, 48 yards, 1 TD
Over/Under?!
Since my gut reaction to that line is, “I’d be exstatic!” I’ll take the under 😛
You really think theyre gonna have him throw 37 times in his first game? Hopefully waaay under.
Yes. I do.
Maybe 37 is a little high but people are forgetting this is a west coast offence, and a lot of screens and short passes are used as a proxy to the run game. I think he will throw bigger number of passes than a lot of people expect.
A screen play that never goes for more than 1 yard. Reid’s comment to support it — “It’s as good as a run play”
Andy Reid 2.0.
Upvote your comment… downvote the sad cold reality of it
Andy Reid wud call 50 plus pass plays .. to the worst recieving corps in the league to boot
Under
15/27 220 yards 1TD, 1INT
Push on the rushing.
push, or near push, on the comp %, yards, and TDs. Under on the INTs and under on the rushing attempts.
Yes was not sure if they’d designed 7 runs for him. Think he will improvise a couple of times though.
I don’t want him anywhere near 7 runs a game.
You want him to be the second coming of Dan Marino. Ain’t happening, but we get it 🙂
Butdoes he get the win ??
Told all of you bradford wouldn’t be on this team
Nostradomus
Nostradumbass
Can we get a jpeg of Republicans laughing? Just for old times’ sake?
I love you.
told us KC would win super bowl last year too

What is their plan at linebacker?
They kept Cherry over Gause? Huh.
Do I smell another trade coming?
So I’ve asked this before: why Cherry over Gause?!
Philly (area) > Jersey?
That’s quite true.
So, would anyone else really rather see Seo or Wiz at LG instead of that bum Barbre? Two years now, still not sure exactly what the staff sees in the guy.
Beg pardon?
You cannot be serious that the Eagles are going to actually plug Barbre back into the starting job at LG.

Ask Dougie P.
That is so f-ing out of line. Barbre flat out sucks.
I know. At least Shawn Andrews is not starting though!!
Ha
Nice meme!
Whoever invented Google images as a search tool is a genius.
Ill go with the coaches evaluation
Here is an interesting read on why the Browns passed on Wentz.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/eagles-chance-show-browns-cleveland-000000544.html
The Browns wanted to see a QB put up big numbers against top tier opponents to feel comfortable with drafting them…kind of like Johnny Manziel, Brandon Weeden, Brady Quinn and Tim Couch. Wentz didn’t fit that mold so they passed. I would argue QB evaluation is not about stats and moneyball factors.
Look your ideal QB would be Andrew Luck – 4 year starter at a top conference program, with elite tools and excellent stats and tape. It is the reason why is the best prospect in a generation.
The fact Wentz lacks games and experience against elite schools is a significant concern that makes projecting him harder. Browns are in a very different situation however – they will have a top 2 pick in 2017 while the Eagles have no chance of that – so staying patient and picking up assets can work for them at a higher success rate.
However i do feel the fact that the Browns passed on Wentz almost guarantees he will be a HOF QB since fate seems to hate the Browns more than any other team in sport.
Luck certainly is not looking like the best prospect in a generation but he’ll get a free pass for a few more years with blame being pinned on the coach, OC, and crappy offensive line.
Prospect does not mean best NFL player – but the one who at the time of the draft looked the most promising. Luck is the best QB prospect since Elway, and so far while he has been good he has not yet quite achieved that potential… but there is is still plenty of time and hopefully with a new GM and Coach they can actually build a contender around him.
Their coach and GM both received 3 year extensions in January, through 2019. Nomchange imminent on that front.
Luck reminds me of Eli, chuck and duck throws into double and triple coverage.
Re minds me of Eli’s brother Payton. And Elway. Abd Farve …Makes Millions himself every yrar..has stats & respect but needs someone way way bettrr to bring him a ring
You think he was a better prospect than Peyton? Or Vick? Not so sure about that… but probably best since those two.
Peyton was not the end and be all prospect coming out. Guys like Bradford and Stafford and Luck was better prospects coming out.
You’re kidding right? He was a 1st overall pick, and would have been 1st overall the year before too but stayed in college for his senior season. Teams were waiting all year for him. The Ryan Leaf stuff was almost boredom from the press over the Manning-is-going-first storyline that had been played out all year and had gotten tiresome, even if still true.
The following was a 2011 article from a writer who had considered Manning the best QB prospect he had looked at, until Luck. (Looks like mostly based on better running ability, though was close in most other aspects.)
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/818458-the-perfect-prospect-why-andrew-luck-is-better-than-peyton-manning
Manning was considered a once-in-a-generation prospect too. And he’s certainly in the argument for best of all time.
Fate doesn’t really care for us that much èither unfortunately
It is hard to argue with the Browns results, though.
Wait, no it isn’t.
Where are you getting “stats and moneyball” from this article?
“A sizable component of Cleveland’s doubt in Wentz came down to game film, a source close to the Browns’ decision to pass told Yahoo Sports.”
“When film rolled, evaluators were looking across the line of scrimmage in North Dakota State games and rarely saw opposing players with even fringe NFL talent.”
“Often, when evaluators review an NFL prospect at a lower level of college football, they want to see dominance.”
“He had some injury concerns from college, too.”
From the article, it sounds like they used the same eye test so many love, they just came to a different conclusion than Donohoe (and how many elite QBs has he discovered?)
People trust their eyes. Eyes lie. Math is a tool that can help correct against the biases all we humans fall prey to.
Most QBs, even highly-drafted ones, don’t pan out. Guys who play against poor competition and don’t blow them out of the water tend not to do so well.
Maybe Wentz will. Talent does what it can, genius does what it will.
I guess we read it differently.
“the Browns didn’t see a franchise-changer who was consistently scorching a trail through his season. Often, when evaluators review an NFL prospect at a lower level of college football, they want to see dominance. And if that quarterback is going to be seriously considered for the No. 2 overall pick, they want to see something like Steve McNair at Alcorn State. Wentz was good, but he wasn’t that. He had some injury concerns from college, too.”
The reason Wentz didn’t scorch a trail is because he didn’t have to. NDS ran a ball control offense and had a great defense. Wentz was not asked to throw is 40 times per game, let alone 30. For comparison, Steve McNair ran a run and shoot style offense at Alcorn State and put up crazy numbers.
and we all know QBs from run and shoot and Air Raid college offenses become such good QBs…
The Browns are stupid if their moneyball theory is scorching stats.
Their entire draft this year was basically college statistical heros.
And they’re looking to tank for DeShaun Watson; dolts.
F them!!
I really hope Wentz will shove it down their throats on Sunday for publicly criticising him. Make them pay!!!
Well it helps if you tank like they are doing bc they know they will have a great pick next year too. I hope they get called out for it or only philly teams do.
That’s why I said they are using stats and moneyball to make decisions. They hired a known baseball moneyball guy Paul DePodesta to report directly to the owner. They clearly got rid of some good players this year for no other reason than to have more draft picks. Hinkie would be proud.
But I want to see the national media scream about it.
That’ll come soon enough as they actually start losing game after game after game.
So you don’t think Hue can revive RGIII’s career;-)
Hue was my top choice for our HC spot, so I respect the skills.
I don’t respect RG3 or the Browns roster.
The Browns was really bad compared to what the Sixers was and so far the Browns havnt traded their best player for draft picks
The best part is that the guy from whom they’re tanking, DeShaun Watson, will suck as an NFL quarterback.
Money ball!
Money Ball is the devil
Willie McGinest just said on NFL Network that he has “inside information” that the players on the team feel Carson is special and has that “it” factor.
I wonder who his boys on the team are. He retired so long ago (in NFL terms), that I can’t imagine he has former teammates.
He was a USC guy, so maybe he talked with Agholor?
Dunno, but he does get to keep up with the current players when they come on the NFL Network when he is hosting. I can’t remember the last Eagle in the show. He does know Dawkins though.
Aside from being a Patriot apologist, he is one of the more level-headed hosts.
And he was an awesome football player.
6’5″ linebackers with range are a rarity.
And he could put his hand down when the Pats felt like switching into a 4-3.
I hated him so much after the Superbowl…kept stuffing westy over and over.
I guess it would have been too difficult to ask our O-line to block anybody that day.
Yes they were invisible. Hsd DMac scrambling for his life from the outset
Honey Buns was atrocious in that game. Constant pressure right up the middle all game long.
Several coaching assistants are possibilities… Didnt glew play in NE at one point?
Everyone with eyes saw that when he came into the game.
Yep I was just thinking about that tonight. When he came out in that preseason game it was like he was shot out of a cannon.
I am concerned about this opening game. I hope Pedo keeps things simple for him these first 3-4 games. And protects him. Let’s not have him taking 7 step drops 30+ times.
yeah, RG3s first game, he did great on paper, but it seemed to be a lot screens and short passes. the screens worked but the play calling did not tax him as a rookie starter
