Now let’s talk about trends.

The Eagles are showing serious interest in the top DTs. Ed Oliver and Christian Wilkins aren’t likely to be around at 25. The Eagles are probably trying to figure out just how much they like those guys and how much they should consider trading up for them. Remember that you draft not only a player, but a person. The more you invest in a prospect, the more you want to know.

Jerry Tillery should be on the board at 25. He also makes a lot of sense for the Eagles. He’s athletic and disruptive.

This is the kind of athletic DT you want on the field in 2019. Snacks Harrison has his place, but guys like Tillery can make more of an impact.

Trysten Hill is a real interesting player. He has big time ability, but he wasn’t a starter in 2018. He did start the previous two seasons. Hill was at his most productive in 2018, despite not being a starter. This is a player you need to meet and talk to. Why did he lose his starting job? The Eagles have certainly talked to the UCF coaching and training staff. Now they want to hear from the player. Do the stories match? Who do you trust? There are plenty of players who got on the wrong side of the coaching staff without doing anything really wrong. There are also plenty of players who deserved to be benched.

If I’m guessing where the Eagles go in the first round, DT is the position. Nothing is a lock, but it just feels like that is most likely.

The Eagles are looking at slot receivers.

A.J. Brown
Parris Campbell
Jalen Hurd

Brown could go in the first. Campbell seems more likely for the second round, but he could be one of those guys who sneaks into the end of the first round. He has serious ability and should be better in the NFL than he was in college.

Hurd is a mid-to-late round guy. He was a RB at Tennessee before quitting the team and transferring to Baylor. He then became a WR. Hurd has NFL ability, but obviously he’s not a polished player at all. You would be taking on an athletic project. Hurd is 6-5, 228. He only ran 4.66 at his Pro Day, but he’s quick and explosive. There are on-field and off-field questions to ask. Why did he leave UT? Why did he move to WR? Teams must decide if he’s a project worth investing in.

The Eagles haven’t done a good job of developing WRs in recent years so I don’t know if Hurd makes a lot of sense. Then again, if the value is right, he just might be the kind of player you do want to take a chance on.

The Eagles haven’t brought LBs into Philly, but did go to some Pro Days. I love Emeke Egbule, but Cody Barton from Utah would also make sense.

That is one heckuva play. Barton is very talented. You just have to understand you are getting a cover guy and not a run-stuffer. The Eagles might be fine with that.

*****

The Eagles are checking out a ton of RBs. Part of me would love to see them roll the dice on Josh Jacobs in the first. Part of me would love to see them go for Miles Sanders in the second.

There is also good logic in waiting for the fourth round and seeing who is still there. My description is far too casual. The Eagles would only do something like this if they felt comfortable with the players they expected to still be on the board at that point.

Justice Hill could be great value if he lasts to that point.
