Know Your Enemy – The Jets

I won’t say expectations were overly high for the Jets coming into the season, but there was reason for optimism. The offense had a gifted young QB in Sam Darnold and a workhorse running back in Le’Veon Bell. The defense had Quinnen Williams, Leonard Williams, C.J. Mosley and Jamal Adams. That’s an impressive foundation for a team.

Or not.

Injuries and whatever you want to call mononucleosis have decimated the Jets. They are 0-3. They are dead last in offensive yards and they are 20th in defense. When healthy in the season opener, they blew a 16-0 lead vs Buffalo and lost 17-16.

Coach Adam Gase isn’t making anyone confuse him for Bill Belichick.

This is a bad team right now.

This is also the NFL, which means every team is dangerous. And the worst time to play a team is when they are at rock bottom. They have nothing to lose and you never know when they’ll put everything together for that one good game.

The Jets are coming off a bye week. Maybe Gase was able to figure a few things out. I doubt the Jets will suddenly become a juggernaut, but they will be rested and ready to go.

The Eagles have played three straight tough opponents. The Jets will be their weakest competition of the season. Let’s hope they take advantage of that.

Injury update. DeSean Jackson is out. Sidney Jones is questionable. With that in mind, the Eagles made another move at CB.

Rasul Douglas will start outside. Jones or Craig James will start on the other side. Orlando Scandrick will play the slot. These guys need to wear name tags so they can keep track of each other.

Darnold will sit out another week so Luke Falk will start for the Jets. This secondary against Falk is not exactly a matchup NFL Films will be documenting for Canton. The Eagles caught a break in facing a bad QB with this lineup.

We’ll have to wait and see if Jones can play. It would be good to have him out there.

Do you need a good laugh at Washington’s expense?

That is great stuff.
