PHI 15, CAR 14 – 2nd Half Thread
Posted: November 26th, 2012 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 184 Comments »Super Bowl, here we come. After going down 14-3, I got a bit scared. Now I know that Big Red was just trying to make his former protege Ron Rivera feel good for a few minutes. Andy is nice.
Bryce Brown looks great. The OL is opening good holes. Even Dion Lewis is contributing.
Nick Foles was good on the opening drive unti that got to the Red Zone. Since then, he’s been highly erratic. His decision-making has not been good. Nick is forcing the ball into coverage. That has to stop. He’s had 3 INTs dropped by the Panthers.
The defense was awful, but then came alive in the 2nd Qtr. More of that, please.
_
Not just Rivera, I’ll bet Mcdermott was lovin’ it.
Both McDermotts.
I am staying awake in hopes of seeing positive signs from Foles. We currently don’t have a QB for next year and there aren’t really many options out there.
Matthews done
Maybe, but that penalty might be his biggest contribution to date.
Come on D!
Oh Coleman
How did he catch that? And where was the PI?
Very borderline PI. DRC was on his arm early.
Cole has actually played well tonight against the run.
Secondary cant make a play
Zero ball skills.
This secondary is making things easy for the decision makers this off-season.
Yep.
2 guys defending a jump ball of course the wr will catch it.
🙁
Patterson falling down and losing contain cost that first down.
Coleman whiffing on a 3rd down tackle. Worst safety tandem in the league…
Not sure what has happened with Allen as the season has progressed. I thought he was really solid the first month. Coleman just reverted back to the subpar bench player he is.
95 yd drive. Awesome stuff
Should have called the 3rd down holding on Cole
Meh, that one could go either way. This team just isn’t very good no matter how you slice it
Not good. DEs are undisciplined. Keep rushing too much upfield. Must mush rush and contain Newton.
Mike Patterson looks fat
Should read ‘Mike Patterson is fat’
Dawkins would’ve piledriven Cam on that one. Allen just let Superman soar.
Are we the only kickoff return team that doesn’t use a 2-man wedge? All four or five blockers just take off in different directions on every return and mostly miss their guy?!
that pair of runs just now…almost as good as the TD runs…BB is playing very well
Arm tackles can’t bring down Brown
We declined a penalty because we earned more yards. When is the last time that happened?
Down by contact
no challenge, though
It is automatic. A challenge would have been a penalty and negated th automatic review.
oh, yes…how could I “forget”…what a lame rule
The negating the automatic review part is ridiculous.
Am I crazy or was that really close for it to be glossed over like that?
Brown sets the Eagles rushing record and then turns the ball over. Salt in the wounds.
Cut the bum.
Better than a cut in the bum.
Taking inventory on Offense. Solid left side of o-line, 1 stud RB, average TE, 1 good WR (Desean). Everything else is replaceable.
nice tackling
CURRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good to see him get a hit on Newton.
BG and Curry at end are playing well right now. Why was Curry inactive for so long???
Washburn loves Darryl Tapp.
Tapp seems to always play with hustle, but always seem to eaten up in blocks. Curry, so far, seems to be doing a better job of shedding blocks and reading the play. Hope he continues to see time with BG
I disagree Graham had a rough night, Currey looked good tho
Going to make releasing Babin even easier if they get solid play out of these 2 for the rest of the season.
I hope so.
I do too. One of my least favorite Eagles in a long time for multiple reasons.
I have liked what I’ve seen from them too.
Oh no, not Bell!
Bell Incoming! Take Cover!
Cover your kids’ eyes.
Can we please start Menkin vs Dallas?
Remember, as crap as Foles had been, he can actually make throws routinely that Christian Ponder can’t. And Andy Reid is making far more demands of Foles than Frazier and Musgrave have of Ponder.
#itcanalwaysbeworse
Yup, and BB makes it all worth it…
Tirico with the line of the night “The Bryce is Right” 🙂
I like the Ghram Curry tandem
Spelled that way and it looks like a Wed night special at my favorite local Indian place . . . Also includes G Naan
Only positive from this game is Bryce Brown.. Props to Howie and Andy for finding him.
Legit PI call on Nakamura.
Great TD run. Simple. Just used burst off the edge.
I have a Buick LeSabre. Maybe I should send in a resume?
Entertaining game if less than stellar execution by both teams so far. It does piss me of to no end though to watch the Eagles stay close by using a run/pass ratio close to 50/50 and not asking his QB to do too much with a conservative game plan.
Ghost of Jim Johnson credited with the tackle there on Olsen.
Well played.
The Buffalo Wild Wings guy, hit the sprinkler
Someone called Patterson “fat”?
Proper clinical term would be ‘morbidly obese’
Good for Patt
Yep.
Soooo, can 9-7 get them in the playoffs!!!
Ooops
No, that DE is no joke…good play on his part
Can’t have the fumbles.
Strangely, I’m not angry, I fell bad for the kid. I guess that says a lot about where we are at this season.
What an awful angle by Nnamdi
That was terrible. Gave ’em easy yards.
Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwin said today that Nnamdi was was pretty terrible this year. That he looks like “just another guy” playing Cb
That won’t be an issue next year.
Dog sh*t on the OL, but still winning by running a balanced offense..all the more reason to fire Reid. Shoulda been doing this all year (last 14 years).
Don’t expect Reid to ‘run the ball for running the ball sake’ but it has been even more frustrating this year refuse to dial things back given all of the inconsistency/roster shuffling/injuries the OL has dealt with this year.
It’s the panthers one of a few teams which we have more wins than. Let’s not extrapolate this performance onto to others games against other teams. Also we just fumbled again. Same junk as the past games and I am pretty sure Reid does not game plan for lost fumbles. Just sayin
Please stop fumbling….
eagles up with the ball on a short field, felt good for the first time in a long time…was good while it lasted
None of our secondary can tackle tonight
Eh, they turned him back inside.
Boykins did, Coleman had a chance coming from the inside
Tonight??? Try for two years!
Nate’s been okay, I think. Kurt, DRC, and Nnamdi not so much.
tommy what do you think of curry so far?
I would love to see the numbers break out after tonight on the defense under Castillo and Bowles but I have no idea why this defense is suddenly tackling the past month like they did last year. Only guy that tackles with any kind of consistency not on the DL is Ryans.
McCoy’s been teaching Brown how to carry the ball.
I have been pretty impressed by Newton tonight. He has a little more talent around him than RGIII does but both guys could use a lot more help.
Now Foles has to take a snap, turn around like that, then throw deep.
I call that pass the bad shot put.
you had to do a QB sneak there…
didn’t like the outside run there. need to go up the gut
Donovan was money on those.
Yep.
don’t like the play call there
Needed to sneak on 4th/inches. Ugh.
Why hasn’t Reid ever done the QB sneak going back to Dmac on 4th and inches?
Um, you have a 240 lb QB and you run that play on 4th and inches. I give up, they’re obviously smarter than all of us.
Of course Andy won’t give any kind of legit or honest response after the game on why he made that call there.
Come on guys, a failed sneak and the comments would have been about not giving the ball to the guy with the record setting day. Just be glad we didn’t throw it.
I don’t think so. The critical, absolute critical issue with the Eagles over the last few years has been weak interior linemen. If we could rely on a line to get a push, then it wouldn’t be controversial at all to hand off to BB.
And even then, we could run on the left pretty good. No quality on the left side of the line now.
Whadda ya know, Coleman and Asomugha combine for….a big play given up
That counts as a sack for Babin! He is back!
It would be nice if the defense actually forced a turnover here for a change and made a play.
Not yet. Waiting for the right moment.
nice discipline on D
was wondering where the crowd was…there they are!
Panthers are going to win the game, but the Eagles win the battle of the draft order.
Showed them
And hope springs eternal.
OT? You as excited as I am?
A tough win here could harden our troops for a deep playoff run…
Eternity is not very long…..apparently
I see Carolina is keeping their draft position in mind.
We aren’t going to let them get away with that.
Poor Bowles, handed a hot steaming mess, but boy is his reputation taking a beating.
he always keeps a smile on his face, though!
The 2-8 Panthers have been averaging about 18 points a game. Our D really is this bad.
And the thing is you can’t even blame that on injuries. That’s pure TALENT!
Perfect
If the Eagles defense were a mother –
And that is a perfect ending to a mess of a game
turnovers, turnovers, turnovers
Booooo!
Eagles just can’t win
And that’s the game..
it’s pretty bad when the fan-base just expects failure.
It’s a defense mechanism. I came in with low expectations and right now I’m not that mad
Such a terrible football team. We might not win again. ever.
I don’t even get upset anymore! I love it…complete emotional freedom!
Ditto.
Eagles D has quickly become the defense you want your fantasy QB facing.
Absolutely.
I was up by 23 going into tonight and all he had left was…. Cam Newton
-9 during the six game losing streak, -8 in the first 4. So, we are improving!
Oh god, not this timeout crap again. Just let it end Andy
Was Nnamdi even going to try to tackle on that Stewart run that got called back? More questionable effort by the defense in this game.
god look at our offensive line-up, mathis, maclin, celek , and havili are the last starters standing
havili is a part timer
Penalties (lack of focus) and I would argue a clear lack of effort here in the 2nd half. What a pathetic display by the defense.
They gave up 30 to Carolina. I can’t wait for this season to be over
Great coverage with the game on the line
Didn’t give up a TD…so I concur.
Aaaaaand. Goodnight. I look forward to reading the DGR, Tommy. Thank you.
I think our European friends went to bed. Good for them.
The bigger fools are on this side of the Atlantic.
If it was 5 AM to have seen this I’d be Euro-pissed.
If we travel east and cross the dateline, it will be tomorrow night and we’ll be watching MNF. If we travel west, it will be yesterday and we won’t have suffered through this game. With this kind of logic, I expect to soon have a position on the Eagles staff.
I hope they enjoyed at least 1 Bryce Brown TD.
I saw the first BB TD live and also enjoyed his seccond “as-live” on my NFL.com gamepass this morning…his 2 fumbles?! Not so much…!
I went back to bed at 3am. Glad that I did after watching the condensed 2nd half on my NFL gamepass this morning.
Would anyone be upset if Andy were fired tomorrow? I honestly could careless what they do at this point.
#3 Pick!!!!!!
Friend texted and said maybe 60-65% actually showed up. Tirico was right that this felt like a preseason game.
There is nothing left to say about this team
Great stat there. Car held the NFL record for not holding an opponent scoreless in the 4th QR until they faced the juggernaut in Philly
I change my mind. I’m still pretty mad lol. That entire 4th quarter sequence was atrocious
The ‘Fire Reid Now’ will grow after the game and rightly so given what I thought was questionable effort by the defense tonight. Only reason Reid should stay is because of what he has done for the franchise.
On keeping Reid at this point:
“For who, for what?”
Worth watching the post game show, Didinger looked to be a few moments from an epic meltdown on the loathsome Rendell.
Why does everyone keep asking “what was the difference tonight…” I regard to Cam or Carolina in general when it was clear that the difference was playing a truly shitty opponent! One of the worst 5 teams in the league with KC, Oak, Cle & Jax
Reid in the post-game conference acts like a professional in that he refuses to throw any body under the bus and take the onus on himself. Really difficult thing to do given the circumstances. He easily could lash out or be critical of some of his player’s mistakes tonight including the rookies.
I will disagree with him though that is team played with a ‘high energy level’ tonight including on defense.
It’s just the same recycled crap he’s shooting out once again.
And who’s he going to throw under the bus, anyway – he’s 100% responsible for this roster and team.
He easily could have thrown Brown under the bus or the poor execution by his players. He didn’t.
Not saying the Reid deserves heaping praise for saying the same generic stuff. Just acting like a professional and keeping his demeanor in the spite of this debacle. That’s all.
It gets old. Let his players take responsibility for constantly losing game after game after game…. him protecting his players has gone a little too far.
I completely agree about Andy’s professionalism and integrity. Imagine how tough it must be to stand there and answer those questions knowing the fans are hanging “Fire Andy” banners and your career in the City is coming to an end. A lot of his rote answers certainly have gotten old, but the guy still acts like a leader in that he accepts the buck stops with him.
Tommy are you ready to surrender now?
Never!!! 8-8 and on the way to the Super Bowl. How can you doubt it will happen?
Go Eagles !!
Seriously lets pray we get a GM and coach that can evaluate talent and can get a system in place that we can all enjoy watching again….
If Bryce Brown hadn’t fumbled twice that would have been a pretty epic first start for him. He does look like a legit talent though, good size/strength/speed and a surprising amount of elusiveness. If he can get ball security under control he has serious upside moving forward.
Big time potential. Must clean up the mistakes.
Andy Reid in his press conference: “COX has suffered a lower back contusion….. LOL!!!
RE: Fumbles and mental mistakes…
In an alternate universe where Bill Parcells was coaching this team, are there 11 players on either side of the ball that he would even put out there? Or would he have gone Norman Dale and played with 3 or 4 guys to prove a point?
If Parcells was the GM/coach, he would make some changes after this game including moving Babin into a role as just a limited role player and not a starter for making that really stupid offsides penalty & his constant lack of gap and lane discipline.
Didinger – “This is just a lousy defense.” Pretty much and all you need to know about this game & team right now.
Invested massive resources the past 2 offseasons to improve the defense and they have subsequently got a worse performance each season.
Besides Cox, Kendricks, and Cole, I don’t see any starters on this defense right now who have a good bet to be the starters in Week 1 next year. Not because Kendricks or Cole have played that well either but there are so many holes that they Eagles won’t be able to address them all.
Reuben Frank – “First time in franchise history that the Eagles have allowed 28 or more points in 5 consecutive games.”
