It’s Official – Carson Wentz is an Eagle!

Posted: April 28th, 2016 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 758 Comments »

We’ve known this was coming since news of the trade with the Browns moved the Eagles into the number two spot in the draft.

Carson Wentz is an Eagle.

You should be happy about this. Very happy.

Is there risk in moving up to take a QB in the draft? Heck yes. But we’re also talking about the player that some smart people think incredibly highly of.

That’s high praise.

Even though the Eagles had to settle for the number two pick, they may have gotten the best player or best QB in the entire draft. That doesn’t guarantee that Carson Wentz will pan out, but it makes you feel pretty good about his odds.

If you want to get a better feel for Wentz, watch his episode of Gruden’s QB Camp.

Wentz has great physical talent. He needs work, with only 23 college starts under his belt. He hasn’t thrown nearly as many passes as other QBs who went early. That’s okay. The Eagles have a plan for developing Wentz. They aren’t going to force him into the lineup.

This is also an unusual move because the Eagles aren’t a team coming off a 3 or 4-win season. They went 7-9 and were slotted at pick 13. They moved up to the 8th spot and then to number two. Most teams taking a QB super early are either coming off a terrible season or they have struggled for a while. The Rams haven’t made the playoffs since 2004. The Eagles were division champs in 2013.

Wentz will have pressure on him, but I think he’ll be put in position to succeed. This won’t be the same as JaMarcus Russell coming in to save the Raiders or Joey Harrington coming in to save the Lions. Wentz doesn’t have to carry the entire team on his back. He doesn’t have to drag an organization from years of losing into the playoffs.

The Eagles are looking for Wentz to provide stability at QB and to help the team to get back to being one of the best in the league. He has the ability to do that. He has the work ethic to adjust to the NFL and become a good starting QB. It will be fun to see how he handles this challenge and whether this move by the Eagles proves to be brilliant or back-breaking.

The Eagles didn’t just move up for a QB. They moved up for someone they think is special.

It’s bizarre how a “defensive” coach turned out such an awful defense year after year.

  53. 53 Greg Richards said at 8:45 PM on April 28th, 2016:

In retrospect, if we had stayed at 8, the options wouldn’t have been great. I’d assume another team would have traded up to 2 for Wentz. Elliott wouldn’t have been there. Tunsil has character concerns. Jack has the injury issue. Hargreaves’ stock in general has seemed to drop, likely just the draftniks catching up with league opinion. Pick at 8 would likely have been Conklin or Stanley.

  54. 54 Bob Brewer said at 8:47 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I always thought that. I wasn’t excited about anyone at 8 either. I think Elliott may have been there, but Stanley? Hargreaves? Blech.

Happy the Eagles traded up. I’m just sad we have a while to go before the next pick.

  225. 225 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:27 PM on April 28th, 2016:

No… But I can’t have it all… Im ok that Ramsey ISNT there, im ok with them not having edge rushers still(a premier position),.

  226. 226 A_T_G said at 9:31 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I agree completely. But I think the fact that we are saying at least they didn’t get a QB or edge rusher or the best overall player tells us a lot about the value of a RB.

  227. 227 Jarock said at 9:34 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Truly great running backs are rare, but good ones are common. Will Elliot be great? Maybe. Running behind that line should help. The argument is that they could have selected a great corner or very good d-lineman and still gotten a more than serviceable RB down the line. I like Elliot, but I agree with Kempski that taking a RB in the top 10 is just silly.

  228. 228 scratcherk said at 9:28 PM on April 28th, 2016:

you knew they were going to get a good player at #4 when the top 2 picks are QBs. Minimize damage by drafting an RB. Anyone they stick in the backfield would have been decent anyway

Honestly, I think in terms of the 4th pick in the draft, Zeke to the Cowboys was the best outcome. They were going to get a good player regardless. A RB at 4 has questionable value at the very least, so to me, the opportunity cost was high for the Cowboys by picking Zeke.

Zeke is a wasted top 4 pick. We dodged a bullet with a rival team getting such a premium pick and blowing it on a RB, who’s best skill set is blocking.

  236. 236 RobNE said at 9:27 PM on April 28th, 2016:

what do people think of the Cowboys pick? Does it make you think very good short term pick, but maybe not a good long-term pick….and maybe in the short-term, that’s a tough team….so maybe you are a little more ok with trading Bradford?

They almost couldn’t help picking a great player at 4, but I feel like there were much scarier picks that they passed up. He’s going to be a pain with the good line they have, but I think it could have been worse.

  243. 243 RobNE said at 9:31 PM on April 28th, 2016:

right and I think he will have a quicker positive impact than say a CB/safety. I guess I’m asking given that does that make you more ok if Bradford not here.

I guess if you think Romo has limited time which is true, it’s a pick that says let’s go all in while Romo may be healthy.

  244. 244 Ark87 said at 9:34 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I agree with you. That offense should be frightful right away assuming Tony is about to catch that rapid beat down father time loves to dish out (it is not as gradual a process as one would imagine). They are all in on 2016. Which is crazy for a team that earned the number 4 pick

  245. 245 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:34 PM on April 28th, 2016:

They had the 4th pick in the draft, so odds are we couldn’t avoid them getting a baller… Zeke behind that OL is going to be an issue, and he is the one player that could help keep Romo upright… But that requires running Zeke into the ground the way they did with Murray…
    .
Still, we won’t be laughing at them picking a RB at least two days out of each year… Silver linning, they haven’t addressed edge rush which is a premier position and there biggest need, and I don’t have to learn to despise Jaylen Ramsey

right and I don’t think he’d beat Sanchez out for the job this year, but here I am rooting for the QB’s to get picked b/c we don’t have another pick for a long time.

  263. 263 anon said at 9:37 PM on April 28th, 2016:

great start for browns, get 30 picks and still get the guy you wanted.

  269. 269 Greg Richards said at 9:39 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Think he was just speculating. I’m on twitter and there wasn’t anything definite out there that they were taking Rankins. Been rumored for a while though.

  270. 270 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:39 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Yeah just guessing, im not on Twitter

  271. 271 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:40 PM on April 28th, 2016:

So don’t take it as me shouting out spoilers. I have no idea, just guessing

  272. 272 scratcherk said at 9:40 PM on April 28th, 2016:

The biggest smokescreen of the draft was what Tunsil had on his face. :rimshot:

    Ooh nice nice lol

  274. 274 A_T_G said at 9:41 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I hear teams aren’t as high on Tunsil anymore, or as high as Tunsil.

  275. 275 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:41 PM on April 28th, 2016:

They are trying to claim the video is like 5 years old… Lol looks pretty grown in that video, not like some 17yr old kid

  276. 276 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:45 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Lol announcers said it doesn’t look 5 years old too… Whoever did this to the young man is one cruel hater

  277. 277 Bob Brewer said at 9:44 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Miami has some nice grass.

  278. 278 scratcherk said at 9:43 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    There it is.

  279. 279 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:43 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Can anyone think of another example where a top prospect had someone actively try to sabotage his draft slot like this?
    ,,
Good for him. Felt bad for him….. Miami could have gotten a steal

  280. 280 RobNE said at 9:44 PM on April 28th, 2016:

wow we could have stayed pat and taken Tunsil at 13

  281. 281 A_T_G said at 9:45 PM on April 28th, 2016:

If Wentz doesn’t work out, that fact will be mentioned.

  282. 282 Jarock said at 9:46 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Assuming Tunsil doesn’t wash out due to his drug issues 😛

  283. 283 Dragon_Eagle said at 9:49 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Unless the Dolphins would have taken him at #8.

  284. 284 FairOaks said at 9:45 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Someone in the Dolphins front office? 🙂

  285. 285 oreofestar said at 9:44 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Haha that was our pick

  286. 286 Insomniac said at 9:45 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I’m going to be disappointed if Tunsil doesn’t say this in his interview

    ‘Cause I got high
    Because I got high
    Because I got high

  287. 287 Jarock said at 9:45 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Great value for the Dolphins assuming he can stay clean, or at least ‘NFL clean (i.e. not caught :P)’

  288. 288 Greg Richards said at 9:48 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Needs to stay away from Dion Jordan.

  289. 289 RobNE said at 9:46 PM on April 28th, 2016:

now that it’s official and we don’t pick forever, how do you feel about Wentz? I’m cautiously excited.

  290. 290 Bob Brewer said at 9:47 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I’m thrilled. Even more thrilled finding out Dallas would have taken him.

  291. 291 Duracell said at 9:48 PM on April 28th, 2016:

That actually gives me second thoughts ;).

  292. 292 Jarock said at 9:49 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I’m excited. I love that we have a talented young QB for the first time in over a decade. Not convinced it will work out because, hey, 50% of 1st round QB’s wash out, but I think he’s got a great chance of becoming a very, very good player.

  293. 293 The original AG said at 9:49 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Well McNabb thinks he’s a midround pick at best, and Cleveland passed on him. I’m really excited.

  300. 300 scratcherk said at 9:49 PM on April 28th, 2016:

So with their first round pick, Dolphins got a starting CB, LB and OT. Not bad

  301. 301 RobNE said at 9:50 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I love to see any non-Pats AFCE team get better.

  302. 302 FairOaks said at 9:50 PM on April 28th, 2016:

1st round pick and a fair amount of cap room.

  303. 303 dillinja said at 9:50 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Kiko Alonso sucks

  304. 304 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:50 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I’d be more concerned about Tunsil lack of durability more than a college kid smoking tree… Tho it’s probably more concerning that he has family drama with his step father and someone close to him could be so cruel and post that video at the single most hazardous time imaginable
    ..
But miami got a hell of a talent for a team that traded out of the top 10

  305. 305 Greg Richards said at 9:50 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Karl Joseph to OAK? Very good player, but a S coming off injury at 14?

  306. 306 Insomniac said at 9:51 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Joseph can be a stud if he’s healthy though

  307. 307 oreofestar said at 9:51 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Some people may think this is a reach but I’m personally very high on Karl

  308. 308 oreofestar said at 9:51 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Reach sorry

  309. 309 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:52 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I like him a lot too… But I didn’t see him going top 15, still I think the raiders got a baller

  310. 310 scratcherk said at 9:51 PM on April 28th, 2016:

OHHHH SHIT, MAYOCK JUST DROPPED THE BRIAN DAWKINS BOMB

  311. 311 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:51 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Fuck I like the karl Joseph kid, but I wouldn’t have taken him top 15

  312. 312 Aaron said at 9:52 PM on April 28th, 2016:

wow, what language, your moms and pops must be proud, you jackwad

  313. 313 wee2424 said at 10:10 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I am higher on him then most. Unlike alot of DBs i think he is a pretty safe pick. The Sanders comparison that was made by i think Kiper is pretty accurate.

  314. 314 oreofestar said at 9:52 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Tunsil, Byron and Kiko for the pick that ended up being used on Conklin, they did good

  315. 315 RobNE said at 9:53 PM on April 28th, 2016:

can’t you argue Byron is a net negative.

  316. 316 Jarock said at 9:54 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Had a bad year with us, but was asked to be a shut down corner, which he’s not. He’s a solid system corner and if they don’t expect him to lineup and shut down the Dez Bryant’s of the world, he’ll be fine.

  317. 317 RobNE said at 9:55 PM on April 28th, 2016:

but I mean player compared to contract.

  318. 318 Jarock said at 9:55 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    I’ll give you that 🙂

  319. 319 wee2424 said at 10:07 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Correct me if im wrong but didnt they rework his contract? I know Murrays was, but i thought Maxwells was as well.

  320. 320 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:54 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Think Bucs and Giants had the worst draft so far

  321. 321 Bob Brewer said at 9:54 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I’d throw in San Diego taking Bosa at 3.

  322. 322 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:55 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Yeah I didn’t love that either…

  323. 323 Jarock said at 9:56 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Agreed. Bad pick. Bosa looks like a solid DE at the pro-level, not a difference maker. Worse, he’s in the wrong defense stylistically.

  324. 324 wee2424 said at 10:01 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Trent Cole with his hand in the ground. A more explosive Barwin standing up as a 3-4 OLB.

  325. 325 wee2424 said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I think he is a good player, but definitely not 3 overall. I think he will simply be a more explosive Connor Barwin. Again, good player? Yes, but do you want to spend pick 3 on a more explosive Barwin? They should have gone Ramsey or Tunsil/Stanley. Yes i am aware of Tunsils fall, but i think that is a huge mistake for every team that passed him up.

  326. 326 oreofestar said at 9:55 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Bucs did alright, got Hargreaves and an extra pick…ID say Titans giving up a 2 and 3 to get Conklin was bleh

  327. 327 Bob Brewer said at 9:55 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Oh that’s a good one too.

  328. 328 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:57 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Not a hargreaves fan, but can’t knock them getting an extra pick.
    ..
Chip Kelly got a really good player which annoys me…. At some point he will stop drafting ducks right?

  329. 329 wee2424 said at 10:05 PM on April 28th, 2016:

He is a very good player. Safe/solid pick, not flashy by any means. He will amount not be what Cox is to us by any means however.

With the amount of holes they have on their roster I think they may have been better served trading back if that was at all possible for them.

  330. 330 A_T_G said at 9:53 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I got to say, Tunsil could not have handled his interview with Deion any better. Good for him.

  331. 331 Insomniac said at 9:54 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I don’t think anyone got their mock drafts right this year. Thanks Raiders and Tunsil.

  332. 332 RobNE said at 9:54 PM on April 28th, 2016:

c’mon Paxton! Browns do us a favor here.

  333. 333 Dragon_Eagle said at 9:57 PM on April 28th, 2016:

How is the Browns taking Paxton doing us a favor?

  334. 334 Fufina said at 9:57 PM on April 28th, 2016:

QB’s going is only way that the Broncos pony up the kind of value to get us to trade Bradford.

  335. 335 Steve Smegal said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

A superbowl contender is not starting Paxton Lynch this year.

  336. 336 Cafone said at 9:59 PM on April 28th, 2016:

But they would start Mark Sanchez?

  337. 337 RobNE said at 10:00 PM on April 28th, 2016:

right? It’s weird, what the H is their plan? Waste a year with that D by playing Sanchez? That’s criminal.

  338. 338 Cafone said at 10:01 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I agree. It would be criminal. They need to offer their 1st rounder to the Eagles for Bradford.

  339. 339 Steve Smegal said at 10:00 PM on April 28th, 2016:

No. Those are not their only two options.

  340. 340 RobNE said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I don’t really believe it, but some think Denver is waiting to see if they get a QB before paying our ransom for SB. Now, I don’t think Paxton could beat out Sanchez this year, but hey I don’t have much to root for at this point so here I am.

  341. 341 Gian GEAGLE said at 10:01 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Paxton can’t play the next two years… Not sure he would have any bearing on the Broncos trading for a QB… Even if they get Lynch, I thinki denver will trade for a QB like Kaep or Glennon

  342. 342 scratcherk said at 9:54 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Gotta be Paxton here right?

  343. 343 Greg Richards said at 9:56 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Nah, rumor is WR, maybe Treadwell. I’d take Myles Jack here.

  344. 344 D3FB said at 9:56 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Yea I would guess Treadwell

  345. 345 Joe Minx said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I love Coleman. They got a great one there.

  346. 346 D3FB said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Agreed

  347. 347 SteveH said at 9:57 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Holy shit, Tunsil fell that far for smoking some weed? Jameis Winston might’ve raped someone and he still went 1 overall. What a world.

  348. 348 Dragon_Eagle said at 9:57 PM on April 28th, 2016:

You get suspended for smoking weed.

  349. 349 Joe Minx said at 9:57 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Nah, it was the gas mask.

  350. 350 Cafone said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I’d rather have a guy who is going to have the balls to do the gasmask.

  351. 351 oreofestar said at 9:59 PM on April 28th, 2016:

What is it about the gas mask I don’t get it

  352. 352 Jarock said at 10:00 PM on April 28th, 2016:

You don’t smoke pot with a bong and gas mask unless you’re a MAJOR pothead. Huge red flag in today’s NFL.

  353. 353 FairOaks said at 10:02 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Even if it happened in high school?

  354. 354 oreofestar said at 10:02 PM on April 28th, 2016:

He didn’t look like he was in high school

  355. 355 Jarock said at 10:02 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Not even the talking heads are buying that.

  356. 356 oreofestar said at 10:02 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    I see…

  357. 357 Gian GEAGLE said at 10:03 PM on April 28th, 2016:

As far as I’m concerned, you don’t smoke pot without a gas mask bong 😉 but to each his own I guess

  358. 358 Cafone said at 10:03 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Not really. It’s a gimmicky thing. Serious potheads don’t use a gas mask just like serious alcoholics don’t do beer bongs.

  359. 359 Jarock said at 10:05 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Possibly true, but pics of you doing beer bongs aren’t going to endear you to potential employers either.

  360. 360 Gian GEAGLE said at 10:02 PM on April 28th, 2016:

It connects to the bong and while you are taking smoke in your lungs, all the smoke also goes in your eyes so when you take it off your eyes are bright red

  361. 361 RobNE said at 10:04 PM on April 28th, 2016:

so you don’t get more high, you just get red eyes? that seems kind of stupid.

  362. 362 Jarock said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Key word . . . . might. As long as he isn’t convicted, NFL can pretend it didn’t happen.

  363. 363 Greg Richards said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Corey Coleman. Rumor was Treadwell, I guess that was smoke.

  364. 364 Insomniac said at 9:59 PM on April 28th, 2016:

They’re sticking with RG3 this year. Better hope the Jets take Lynch.

  365. 365 scratcherk said at 10:03 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Bills have to i think

  366. 366 Gian GEAGLE said at 10:04 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Don’t think Lynch has any bearing on denver trading for a QB or not

  367. 367 Insomniac said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    The Browns never change.

  368. 368 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:58 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Think Lions or Falcons are taking Jack

  369. 369 scratcherk said at 9:59 PM on April 28th, 2016:

LOL. “Does he know how to run routes? No.”

  370. 370 A_T_G said at 10:00 PM on April 28th, 2016:

  371. 371 RobNE said at 10:00 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    beats weatherman.

  372. 372 oreofestar said at 10:01 PM on April 28th, 2016:

To be fair, some people thought Stanley was higher plus there was the video, and many had Coleman above Treadwell

  373. 373 mksp said at 10:01 PM on April 28th, 2016:

This has been an incredibly entertaining draft.

  374. 374 The original AG said at 10:05 PM on April 28th, 2016:

It’s the only thing on. Atlanta is crushing Boston, and while I enjoy watching the Celtics lose badly, it’s the playoffs and I want to eat h a good game. It’s painful watching the cap/pens, so I can only take it in doses.

  375. 375 Steve Smegal said at 10:02 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Let’s chill on drafting O-line for a bit. Need guys to start getting pushed down.

  376. 376 D3FB said at 10:06 PM on April 28th, 2016:

We’ll have options at 79. Concern would be if they go LB, CB or S at 79 we could have problems.

Kelly, Whitehair, Garnett, Spriggs, Ifedi if all 5 go tonight it’s going to start to be squeaky bum time.

  377. 377 Steve Smegal said at 10:07 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I really want enough oline to be there that we feel comfortable moving back 10 spots and picking up a 4th

  378. 378 Gian GEAGLE said at 10:08 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Fingers crossed we get a DT at #79

  379. 379 Steve Smegal said at 10:09 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I just think DT is deeper and would rather address oline there.

  380. 380 Jarock said at 10:10 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I’d rather get either a starting quality guard or a tackle with some real potential. I’m perfectly fine with our current DTs. Wouldn’t mind depth, but we can snag a 1 gap player later. Unless someone who should be a 2nd rounder falls . . . .

  381. 381 mksp said at 10:02 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Browns are doing well.

Got the best WR in the draft and an incredible number of extra picks over this draft and next.

Their rebuild is going to be fun to follow.

  382. 382 GermanEagle said at 10:04 PM on April 28th, 2016:

At the end of the day. They’re still the Browns.

  383. 383 Sean Stott said at 10:02 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Mayock waits till the last second, sees who was picked, then calls it out like he knows. Does it every year.

  384. 384 RobNE said at 10:03 PM on April 28th, 2016:

ok kids I’m older and get up some days to run at 5:30, and we don’t pick for weeks, so I’m signing off. You all post well so I have good breakfast reading tomorrow.

Funniest thing I’ve read all week.

  393. 393 wee2424 said at 10:55 PM on April 28th, 2016:

That is insane. Sounds like the agent just went on a drunk spiel, and has an axe to grind with the feds. He would have been better off just saying, “yeah my client smoked weed once, he is sorry”.

  394. 394 Cafone said at 10:05 PM on April 28th, 2016:

so Myles Jack is still on the board too? wtf?

  395. 395 Jarock said at 10:06 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Some of the knee concerns finally leaking indicate it’s bad. Very bad.

  396. 396 solid said at 10:20 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Knee injuries, man. You cannot risk a high pick on someone with a knee injury, no matter how “athletic” they are.

  397. 397 Jarock said at 10:21 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Especially not when he’s already had surgery and doctor’s are predicting more surgery will be necessary, possibly before he plays a down. Shame, cause the kid is a beast.

  398. 398 Joe Minx said at 10:07 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Yeah not a 1st rounder

  399. 399 Greg Richards said at 10:08 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Keanu Neal to Atlanta. Only two DTs drafted so far. Deep position so teams will wait. Will probably be best value in 3rd round.

  400. 400 Gian GEAGLE said at 10:09 PM on April 28th, 2016:

DT is also our biggest need… I’ll be pissed if we don’t go DT at #79

  401. 401 FairOaks said at 10:09 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    OL?

  402. 402 Rambo said at 10:15 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Runningback too

  403. 403 wee2424 said at 10:51 PM on April 28th, 2016:

DT and LB take precedent over that. Plus if we have to there are still somewhat decent RBs left on the FA market that would be good for depth or situational purposes. Not to mention the RB talent in nexts years draft is insane.

  404. 404 Rambo said at 6:49 AM on April 29th, 2016:

What decent FA RB’s are available? We just signed Mike Martin the other day so I don’t know if DT is still a priority over RB when Matthews is so fragile. I have no faith in him staying healthy at all.

  405. 405 wee2424 said at 10:49 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Not so much anymore. The additions of Brooks and Wiz are huge, and im ok with Barbre at depth if Wiz beats him out.

A T would be nice, but i dont think there will be one in the 3rd that would be better then the talent left at DT or LB in the 3rd.

  406. 406 wee2424 said at 10:44 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Im having trouble deciding if its DT or MLB. We have 2 starting LBs that have serious durability issues.

On the other hand we are low on depth along the DL with a system that requires talented depth along the DL. The depth we do have among the DL doesnt really match our scheme by any means.

I would go MLB in 3rd if the right player is there. We at least have depth players along the DL even though they arent ideal. This draft is insanely deep along the DL, and a thumper of a MLB would be a nice addition, plus adds possible ST talent.

  407. 407 Insomniac said at 10:09 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Falcons needed a pass rusher badly IMO

  408. 408 SteveH said at 10:08 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I don’t get it, Tunsil could have been revealed to be the Zodiac Killer and probably still be worth a top 5 pick. Teams are insane for passing on him for that nonsense. Dolphins lucked out bigtime.

  409. 409 Jarock said at 10:24 PM on April 28th, 2016:

    Josh Gordon

  410. 410 wee2424 said at 10:36 PM on April 28th, 2016:

While it is a risk i think its an extreme example. Correct me if im wrong but untill now Tunsil was thought of as a high character guy, and he interviewed very well at the combine unlike Gordon.

I feel safe to say that there are tons of high profile college athletes that have smoked weed. Remember when Herremans and Parker got caught smoking weed in the van at Lehigh? Not bad guys by any means.

I think multiple teams have made a serious mistake in passing him up. Less then 2 weeks ago many thought he would be the #1 overall pick. The kid has extreme talent. He simply got caught doing something countless athletes have done at literally the worst possible time.

  411. 411 Jarock said at 10:43 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I actually agree, but I can’t help pointing out the worst case scenario. I actually do remember reading a few things indicating there were some concerns about Tunsil character wise, but I’d have taken the risk. Of course, nfl teams are privy to a lot more detail than we are and Tunsil’s free fall clearly indicates they think the situation is more serious.

  412. 412 wee2424 said at 10:39 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Agree 100%. I am shocked how he fell. Conklin over him? Hell no. Does make me wonder if there is more that NFL execs know that has not been leaked to the media yet.

Someone (possibly stepdad) really wants to screw with this kid in a major way.

  421. 421 D3FB said at 10:13 PM on April 28th, 2016:

He’s good. Solid pick. Bit high positional value wise.

  422. 422 wee2424 said at 10:27 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Considering the tremendous need that they have at C i think it makes some sense. To me drafting isnt always about just getting them at the right spot, but getting the player you want, especially when you know you cant get him the next go around.

  423. 423 D3FB said at 10:30 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Yea we’re at the point where it’s more about getting a player that helps maximize the other established players you have. Kelly does that.

  424. 424 Jarock said at 10:13 PM on April 28th, 2016:

  439. 439 wee2424 said at 10:15 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Yes, but doesnt mean its a bad move. Worked out for Cowboys unfortunately a few years back. In context it makes sense because Colts have desperately needed a C for years. They identified a player they really liked at a position of huge need and grabbed him knowing that they werent going to have another opportunity to do so.

True, but they could afford Bradford. While I’m not a Bradford fan, give him a team w/a dominant D and a solid running game and he won’t lose games for you.

  610. 610 D3FB said at 11:02 PM on April 28th, 2016:

Cook couldn’t complete 60% of his throws in college. No way he manages to do that in the pro’s. Moot cause they took Lynch who is the higher upside guy, but he’s got a lot of work to do learning the pro passing game.

  661. 661 wee2424 said at 11:19 PM on April 28th, 2016:

I dont like Lynch, but if there is 1 team that he could succeed with it would be Denver. They have a young and by far talented enough team to help him succeed. Also good coaching. Baring any major surprise he will not play this year which will give him time to learn.

Hell, I think Denver is talented enough to be a deep playoff contender with Sanchez and help him have a career year.

It also shows that while Denver is in “win again” mode they are looking to the future. They know that they are good enough to not be in striking distance of a QB as talented (but raw) as Lynch in an upcoming draft.

Again i do not necessarily like Lynch, but for Denver it was a good move. For other teams not so much at that spot in the draft.
